A note to all Nvidia 8800 owners. Do not weep! If your 8800 card has the N92 core, then this card is IDENTICAL to the 9800 range (which are nothing but renamed 8800's), and thus you will be able to run Ultra Mode (though apparently in reduced quality settings).
Seeing as my old 8800GT can throw things like Crysis around at 50+fps, and Dragons Age: Origins, at max quality, at 50+fps, I'm not worried about reduced quality settings... -

Quote:O hai! Carpet the lower quarter of every statue in the city for use as a scratching post.
Any character choosing the Claws power set will now be allowed a Cats Claw weapon choice. Anyone choosing any claw version OTHER than Cats Claw shall take a permanent Accuracy and Damage Debuff.
This could be a problem, as my catgirl's claws are made of pure Kheldian energy and can cut impervium... -
Quote:Just to point out, Prestige Power Slide is a prestige sprint power that has a different animation to the others. That's my point. We don't have any travel powers with multiple animations, be it in a single power or multiple powers. All of the prestige sprints have different visual effects, but use the same animations.

It would be SO much easier to work it out if CoH used DirectX. The 8800 can handle DX10 fine, and runs Crysis at 1440x900 at about 40ish fps on my PC. Alas, I have no OpenGL 3.0 games at all, so have no idea how it performs on the card...
Hell, I don't even know what games use OpenGL 3.0. Anyone got any ideas? -
SLi/Crossfire is a stupid waste of money and doesn't give anywhere near the performance boost you'd expect for running multiple video cards.
Beter to get one of the multi-GPU'd video cards and save on electricity. -
Quote:I have an 8800GT as well, so I'm in a similar quandy. From what I gather, Ultra Mode is going to be using OpenGL 3.0. The 8800 range is Nvidia's earliest offering to support OpenGL 3.0 that I know of, so it SHOULD work.I have an GEForce 8800 GT. Just curious how you think that would hold up...
However, should work and should work WELL, are two different things entirely. At this point, the only way we're going to be able to tell is if either the devs tell us how well it'll run on an 8800, or we wait for the beta. -
I think it could come in the form of a suit for peace between the two dimensions, and a request for aid against the Devoured Earth. They know we have them mostly under control on Primal Earth, whereas most of Praetorian Earth is overrun...

Birdie, me old mate.
Can you pretty please see if you can find out what the minimum spec will be to run the new Ultra graphics mode? It'd help people a lot to know if they need to plan a graphics card upgrade to see the new yummies.

Quote:You might find vile & insane as fun, but it's a personality type that rarely has any "hooks" that will interest people in interacting with you. Many people seem to confuse being a villain with being vile and insane, but if you look at the comic book world, just how many actually ARE that way? Sure, there are some, but most of them don't even get along with other villains, so you shouldn't really expect such a character to have much RPability with other people.Vile and insane is fun. I love doing it. But I keep cranking it up until it boils over.
Does anyone else have similar problems that leave them on the outside looking in? How do you temper it?
I will, as a general rule, just blank any characters like that. If I didn't, my chars would be spending all their time throwing such lunatics in the nut house, instead of doing what *I* want to actually do, which is relax and have some fun.
TBH, I don't have that many villains, but of the 2 I *do* RP; one is an information broker, and will sell to the highest bidder, and sometimes she'll double deal as well. The other is tech user who builds robots from off-the-shelf parts (hence why they look like all the others), and just uses them to rob banks and stuff like that. She has little interest in actual mayhem; just in doing what needs to be done to grab the loot. A plain and simple thief, really.
Neither of them kill, maim and destroy out of fun or anything sicko like that. Those kind of characters are just too 1 dimensional and, to me, boring as hell. -
Bloody kids... Gerrof mah lawn!!!

Quote:Not so, actually. I dropped the old UK prefixed address from day 1 of the new forums, and have the login problem every time I visit. I've pretty much given up on the forums now. This is the first time I've posted in quite a while, and the first time I've even visited them in a week... They're just not "home" anymore. Shame that.Very people actually bother making threads. They just expect them to turn up.
It was a bit wierd moving, but I know I found it better.
The login bug can be solved by using;
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/
Not the old uk. something address. Someone posted that in another thread, followed it, no login bug ever since.
Hell, I'm only staying subbed to the game so I can check out the GR beta and see if THAT might relight my interest in the game. I've not even bothered to log in to play the new Halloween stuff... -
Itwasn'tme! You don't have any evidence! You can't prove anything! I know the law! I have witnesses placing me MILES away at the same time!

Depends entirely on if they're going to let me swap sides with my PB and WS characters or not. If Going Rogue isn't avaiable to epic AT's, then NC can go whistle.
-
Oh, there's no faith there. It's conviction that NC don't have the guts to take the chance and not give us the EU Closed Beta. They folded VERY fast over the I6 issue after it broke in the forums, and I doubt they'd risk that again, especially as they guaranteed us access.
Quote:You'll notice we still don't rate anyone official coming along to say that my worries are unfounded. I suspect this is because they haven't actually read the thread, not because we won't be getting the beta, but it is interesting all the same.
It's weird, since they merged the forums, a move which should result in everyone feeling more 'valued,' the level of service to the non-US customers actually seems to have gone down. -
Considering the poostorm over the I6 EU beta, and then it suddenly happening afterall, I really doubt there'll be no EU GR closed beta.
I doubt NC would want the forums to literally explode, or the PR poostorm that would ensue. They want ALL their players to be happy and to buy the update when it launches. -
Quote:Considering we've had closed beta access previously, I really can't see how they can justify claiming they can't enforce it. Pressure them, Birdy.I'm attending HeroCon, but this will not make me eligible for the GR closed beta because I'm not a US Citizen. I suspect this has to do with enforcing the NDA so...
Will the EU community be able to joing the GR CB? Ever?
Hell, I regularly sign an NDA for a company in Taiwan! They can enforce THAT! -
Quote:Not without a complete rewrite of how localisation is implemented, resulting in a looooong beta phase for testing and a shedload of money spent.I wonder if they'd think about rewriting the client so that the language could be changed as an option, rather than being built into it?
They did it the wrong way to start with, at the server end, now they're stuck with it. -

\Program Files (86)\ is the LAST place you should be installing CoH to. Win 7 sandboxes that folder tree so that any programs writing to it write to a virtual folder instead. This has a habit of screwing up programs that update themselves.

Quote:Is this going to be on the EU test server as well?Oh, I did.
Thats right, we're going to be testing our new and improved Halloween Event on the Training Room this Friday (October 2nd). So get your clients patched up, and be ready for more details tomorrow!
If not, why not?
