Quote:Can't say I've seen many pre-teens being treated like Tomb is.That is pretty much the concept behind her, she's my expression of horror at the sidekick concept and its implementation in modern comics.
Quote:Just an FYI the Teen Titan's has a higher member mortality rate than the Suicide Squad.
Quote:That said apparently Kickass 2 will pretty much have a Tomb character in it.
I dunno, maybe it's because I'm a parent with a 10 year old boy and a 7 year old girl, but I just find RPing these sort of things to kids to be, well, sick.
RPing kids is fine, but I just think some things go way too far. What's wrong with using adult characters? -
-
Quote:You'd need more than a bucket with Tomb. Ellie finds her majorly creepy.None of my characters do either, and are unlikely to find out. If Theo in particular was to find out however it'd probably cause a Heroic BSOD. He'd still carry her off to the police though.
A good way of dealing with characters like that (Children not being children) is to play innocent and dump a bucket of D'Awww on them. Not many RPers can resist D'Awww. -
Quote:For 2 reasons.I'm a complete outsider here, so this may be a stupid suggestion, but why don't the GG heroes just arrest Tomb? Yes, it's a free game world, but in-character actions are supposed to carry in-character consequences, aren't they?
1) That requires the player involved to go along with the actions of the heroes, and remove Tomb from RP permanently. I'm not saying anything about CB here, but far too often in the past, heroes at GG have TRIED to take action against villains there, but the player hasn't gone along with it and just godmodded their way out of it.
2) OOC knowledge != IC knowledge. They can't arrest her if they don't know what she's been doing, and AFAIK, they don't. My characters certainly don't. -
Um, because Dark Astoria has been given up to the ghosts? There's no one alive there, just ghosts and monsters, apart from a couple of staff in the hospital and guards by the gates.

Quote:No it's not, because there are already canon elements in space, such as a moon base. There are almost certainly government space stations too that we've not heard about, but we HAVE heard about the moon base, which makes government space stations likely too.Such a station is a globaly huge stratigic asset, its is a world defining event, it opens a new epoc in human history.
It's just another civilian satellite joining the already crowded orbital pathways (even in RL). -
Quote:It's cutting edge in the REAL world. In the superscience world of CoH? Not so much. It's even canon that there's a Vanguard base on the moon. And yes a private spacestation is ignorable ..i ignore it, but its still there, its still one of the most powerful cutting edge technological events in human history, it still places huge power in the hands aof a group of Supers that answer to no one but themselves .. (( yes i am taking an certain view point here, but its as valid as any .))
-
Quote:No, the STATION is not armed. It's no more armed than a Paragon City train, or the GG statue. It has on board armed PEOPLE, but that's a different kettle of fish. It's incapable of lauching anything at the earth, and being in geostationary orbit, anything thrown out of its airlock will stay in orbit with it unless someone should manually guide it down; and that can be done without a station.
As to the space station, not everyone would be happy with a large group sitting above thier heads outside of any sort of control. Further,of course it is armed , its full of supers, plus it has TP's , and an airlock which means it can drop large masses onto the earth. And please remeber not everyone like the USA and its goverment agencies. Its a matter of scale.
It's a civilian space station and research centre. We're on the cusp of having them in the real world too, especially if the private concern wanting to buy the ISS after it's NASA declared service life in a few more years are successful.
Sure it has TP's, that's how people get onboard; but again, that's no different to the teleport network in Paragon or the Rogues. It's not a weaponised system at all. -
Quote:Of course he would. Liz is a villain, villains ALWAYS lose in comics. But Statesman would always beat LIz , he is not dumb , he would just bring along holy water and crossed and a bunch of stakes, he would do it in day time , and rip holes in any buildings to let in sunlight .
Quote:Now to say CB's plot forces others to react is not true, just like the current GG Find Annette plot does not force other players to react. Yes CB's plot would cause a massive counter strike, but there are plenty of reasons for any character to treat it a a backgorund News story, given the vast number of heroes comparde to villains its unlikely that there would be enough bits of the Court to go around.
As for the "Find Annette" plot, that's certainly not world affecting. It's a single missing person and only those who know her would have reason to be concerned about it.
Quote:And before i get shouted at, YES i agree Tomb would become deadmeat, yes the US airforce would be bombing villains into the stone age, and yes its the sort of plot i would avoid like the plague.
I'd be happier if CB kept her away from places like GG, but of course, I'd never tell him to do so. It's a "free game world" and he can do as he wants to; I certainly have no right to tell him what to do. But I don't have to like it, either.
Quote:However if CB's plot is world News , would not a private Spacestation, run by a group of US based Supers not also be world news ? and would it not have a world wide reaction by other power groups, and nations .
Yeah, he is. He's out there making plots that can't be ignored by people that WANT to ignore them. -
Quote:And therein lies our wiggle room. Statesman is the STRONGEST, but there are more powers out there than just strength, and this is what we can use to beat the top level NPC's.If I use Elizabeth vs Statesman as excample. Statesman is still stronger in super strenghth and touchness. But she is just a tad more powerfull in debuffing spells and manpower. That is not the same.
All good heroes have a weakness, the stronger they are, the more debilitating their weakness. Superman has kryptonite, which can take his powers and even kill him. The villain that killed him was, I presume, Doomsday? He wasn't stronger or tougher than Superman. However, he had greater reserves of energy, and it was that which enabled him to beat Supes (although beat is questionable, as they BOTH fell down dead at the same time).
But that still doesn't mean our characters are more powerful than the top level NPC's; merely that we have other abilities that we can use to weaken them and thus beat them. -
Quote:Irrelevant. Game lore tells us that Statesman is the strongest meta. That Sister Psyche and Penny Yin are the strongest psychics, that Doctor Science is the smartest man etc etc etc.Technically... people can build toons that can solo Statesman at AV 53...
Making them... stronger than Statesman...
Go beyond those, and you're beyond the game lore, off canon, and thus subject to ICly being ignored or even ridiculed (as I often did when people turned up claiming to be the creator of the universe etc... It's happened!). -
Looking at a map, and comparing it with the game map from the CoH Deluxe box set, Providence looks like the only possible location.

Quote:You raise a valid point, but in a shared world where we RP together by consensus, sacrifices DO have to be made to avoid friction. One of these is such wide-scale events as this.
It's apparent such a subject is too much of an emotive event for the Unionverse RP community as a whole, however. I guess that's a good thing, but if I was RP'ing a villain on the Union server, in such an environment...I'd feel that a great disservice had been delivered upon me, I'd probably piss the whole lot of you off, and completely withdraw from the RP community.
The reality of it is, though we mostly RP in a shared universe, our specific plots etc are usually ONLY centered around those involved. Stepping beyond those artificial limitations, whilst it HAS happened several times in the past, has usually resulted in massive arguments occurring and generally is not a wise things to do. Hell, thanks to one such wide-scale event, I actually lost real world friends and stopping RPing in game for almost a year thanks to the OOC fall out, so I know full well of what I speak.
You can have big plots, sure; but if they escape beyond the confines of your specific group, they will almost always cause problems, sometimes BIG problems. Therefore, they're best kept under right reign so that such things don't happen, and everyone is happy.
Sure, that means that you can't be the world threatening big bad; but it's still possible to BE a big bad and yet keep the scale of things small. Even the huge Requiem War plot we had a few years ago, the one that caused me all the OOC grief, was dealt with by a small group of RPers; with the world events being constricted to raids by Requiem's forces, and everyone's reactions to said raids. There were very many REALLY good short stories by people who don't often write, showing how their characters reacted to those events.
Of course, the big bad in that plot was Requiem, an NPC big bad, so making him that bad was a lot easier than it is with a player character. -
Quote:100% agreed. I find the entire plot utterly distasteful and way beyond "the line". I'll no longer ICly blank it now that the number have been reduced to a less ridiculous figure, but nor will I pay any attention to it.I'm not going to say it didn't happen IC any more, but my character's won't get involved and likely won't mention it as I just don't like this kind of plot. It's still a bit of a stretch to ignore, but not an insurmountable one now. If you do like it, I'm not stopping you playing it but I'm not going to read about it or talk about it and if forced on me I will ignore it.
However, should it become public knowledge that Tomb did it, she's not going to find herself welcome at the statue. -
Quote:Hardly a "wide audience".I told about the start of the Open Season and what it was on about in the Militia channel and on the Union RP channel. I chatted with a few of them.. Including Crimson Archer who told me he was not monster hunter enough for it to get involved.
I hoped it was at least read upon. -
Quote:^ What he said. Basically, what we have on the Unionverse is a persistent RP world shared by most of the Union RPers. That's why big events like this affect everyone, and why people are rightly annoyed by something that can't ICly BE ignored.*Pinches the bridge of his nose*
It's a shared RP Universe, the "Unionverse" consider it Reality Upisilon Kappa if you must.
But yes, events happening in the unionverse by definition invovle everyone from teh unionverse, even if it's jsut as simple as them reading teh newspaper and going "Oh would you looka t that the Nighthunters are trying to slay vampries, that's neat".
But yes, entire Union server = Unionverse for us as Rpers, is it so hard to understand? -
^ Some people should learn to read. Specifically, my original post; where I quite clearly stated this thread was NOT made to judge CB's incident, but to discuss world affecting plots in general.
That's not how the thread has turned out, but that wasn't what it was written for.
As for ignoring the plot; that's my decision. If I don't want to have to deal with something which would have world affecting consequences, then I won't deal with it. If others choose to roll with it, then I'll just ignore any comments they make regarding it.
If you want me to do any different, you can pay my sub.
Oh, and I did PM him again, but he never replied and frankly, I didn't expect one.
And finally, cut out the "fatty" remarks. My handle on these boards is FloatingFatMan. Accepted variants of that are FFM or Floaty; nothing else. -
Quote:ONLY those directly involved knew what had happened, ICly. Therefore, no one else WAS affected. Period. That's the thing though to accept that Ellie managed it, and isn't still a murderer, you're having everyone who RP's with Ellie accept that.
A well known fact.
Quote:B) Ellie is responsible for Nemesis.
There's also the whole issue of the Paradox generated by her saving him. I mean if Nemesis wasn't around there of been no Brass Monday, there would of be no Nemesis plots, the gangland structure of Paragon City would of been vastly different, thus its possible (likely maybe) that Ellie would not of been in a situation in which she had to make that deal with the Menders...
If she'd known, she wouldn't have done it, thus changing history. -
You're within your rights to do so; especially as it was a wholly personal plot and only involved 2 other people, both whom gave prior agreement before I did it.
-
Quote:Lunk didn't do this, CB did. It's CB's decision whether he keeps it or not. Either way, doesn't matter. It didn't happen as far as any of my chars are concerned. I'm not dealing with it.Right. I propose someone get in touch with Brit/Game, or wait until he comes back, since this is when alls said and done his plot. It's heaping responsibility on the poor guy too, but thats really the only way we can have this without someones being on someone elses side, or somesuch.
Until then, I'd also suggest we just let it lie for now. Yes, its clunky and hamfisted, but it's either that or we go round and round and round in the same arguement over and over, and people will jsut get narked OOC and that will get into the IC...which is bad. -
Quote:Well, let's take a look at my original PM to you, from this morning, shall we?You know had it been phrased like that, and not as demands from people who when I raised the idea of shared continuity and not agreeing with what they were doing with it, I was told not so politely to shove it, I'd of been a lot more amenable.
I've also been told to leave it in effect by others involved so...
Quote:No offence dude, but don't you think 2000 dead in a school is rather OTT?
Not to mention that must be THE biggest school in the universe, 2000 dead would be on the scale of a national tragedy and would have huge consequences on the entire city.
Just my opinion of course, but I'd scale that down to less than a dozen, tops... That's still a huge tragedy, but small enough that people can ignore the plot if they so wish. 2000 is just... overkill.
Your response? You dropped it to 1000; still a massive overkill.
So of course, I and many others, have gotten annoyed at your, quite frankly, blatant godmodding of the wider game-world, and effectively either forcing RP on people, making us break character, or making us retcon you.
So I'm retconning you. Same goes for Tomb too. She doesn't exist. -

Quote:In the United States, summer vacation lasts for almost 3 months. The dates vary depending on the location of the school district. Most schools take summer vacation from early to mid June to Labour Day or from late May to late August. School may start as early as late July or early August, often in the southern part of the country.Wait what...
what... *deadpan* what?
I don't read every RP thread. I had *no* idea that this school story happened. I have a character that works *in a school*, I have characters attend schools. I'm seeing a big problem here.
((IT'S THE SUMMER BREAK.))
Why were there more than a handful of children in a school in August?
So it's quite likely that schools in Rhode Island have recommenced by now.
