Can't say I've seen many pre-teens being treated like Tomb is.

Kick***, whilst kinda fun, was rather OTT, especially with the Hit Girl character.

I dunno, maybe it's because I'm a parent with a 10 year old boy and a 7 year old girl, but I just find RPing these sort of things to kids to be, well, sick.

RPing kids is fine, but I just think some things go way too far. What's wrong with using adult characters?

If his intention was to make people feel physically disgusted by her entire concept, then sure, I guess so.

You'd need more than a bucket with Tomb. Ellie finds her majorly creepy.

For 2 reasons.

1) That requires the player involved to go along with the actions of the heroes, and remove Tomb from RP permanently. I'm not saying anything about CB here, but far too often in the past, heroes at GG have TRIED to take action against villains there, but the player hasn't gone along with it and just godmodded their way out of it.
2) OOC knowledge != IC knowledge. They can't arrest her if they don't know what she's been doing, and AFAIK, they don't. My characters certainly don't.

Um, because Dark Astoria has been given up to the ghosts? There's no one alive there, just ghosts and monsters, apart from a couple of staff in the hospital and guards by the gates.

No it's not, because there are already canon elements in space, such as a moon base. There are almost certainly government space stations too that we've not heard about, but we HAVE heard about the moon base, which makes government space stations likely too.

It's just another civilian satellite joining the already crowded orbital pathways (even in RL).

It's cutting edge in the REAL world. In the superscience world of CoH? Not so much. It's even canon that there's a Vanguard base on the moon.

No, the STATION is not armed. It's no more armed than a Paragon City train, or the GG statue. It has on board armed PEOPLE, but that's a different kettle of fish. It's incapable of lauching anything at the earth, and being in geostationary orbit, anything thrown out of its airlock will stay in orbit with it unless someone should manually guide it down; and that can be done without a station.

It's a civilian space station and research centre. We're on the cusp of having them in the real world too, especially if the private concern wanting to buy the ISS after it's NASA declared service life in a few more years are successful.

Sure it has TP's, that's how people get onboard; but again, that's no different to the teleport network in Paragon or the Rogues. It's not a weaponised system at all.

The original scale of CB's plot was utterly impossible to ignore for anyone calling themselves a hero. It literally forced people to either react to the plot, or break character to ignore it. It was far too big to treat as a background news story.

As for the "Find Annette" plot, that's certainly not world affecting. It's a single missing person and only those who know her would have reason to be concerned about it.

TBH, I've always found everything about the Tomb character extremely... unnerving. A pre-teen that is constantly involved in VERY adult themes? Who in their right mind wants to RP THAT kind of shizzle?

I'd be happier if CB kept her away from places like GG, but of course, I'd never tell him to do so. It's a "free game world" and he can do as he wants to; I certainly have no right to tell him what to do. But I don't have to like it, either.

Why? It's completely unarmed in any way, shape or form; though it DOES have plenty of passive defenses such as shielding. Besides which, government agencies WERE involved in its creation, but not being part of the SG, you wouldn't be aware of that.

Yeah, he is. He's out there making plots that can't be ignored by people that WANT to ignore them.

And therein lies our wiggle room. Statesman is the STRONGEST, but there are more powers out there than just strength, and this is what we can use to beat the top level NPC's.

All good heroes have a weakness, the stronger they are, the more debilitating their weakness. Superman has kryptonite, which can take his powers and even kill him. The villain that killed him was, I presume, Doomsday? He wasn't stronger or tougher than Superman. However, he had greater reserves of energy, and it was that which enabled him to beat Supes (although beat is questionable, as they BOTH fell down dead at the same time).

But that still doesn't mean our characters are more powerful than the top level NPC's; merely that we have other abilities that we can use to weaken them and thus beat them.

Irrelevant. Game lore tells us that Statesman is the strongest meta. That Sister Psyche and Penny Yin are the strongest psychics, that Doctor Science is the smartest man etc etc etc.

Go beyond those, and you're beyond the game lore, off canon, and thus subject to ICly being ignored or even ridiculed (as I often did when people turned up claiming to be the creator of the universe etc... It's happened!).

You raise a valid point, but in a shared world where we RP together by consensus, sacrifices DO have to be made to avoid friction. One of these is such wide-scale events as this.

The reality of it is, though we mostly RP in a shared universe, our specific plots etc are usually ONLY centered around those involved. Stepping beyond those artificial limitations, whilst it HAS happened several times in the past, has usually resulted in massive arguments occurring and generally is not a wise things to do. Hell, thanks to one such wide-scale event, I actually lost real world friends and stopping RPing in game for almost a year thanks to the OOC fall out, so I know full well of what I speak.

You can have big plots, sure; but if they escape beyond the confines of your specific group, they will almost always cause problems, sometimes BIG problems. Therefore, they're best kept under right reign so that such things don't happen, and everyone is happy.

Sure, that means that you can't be the world threatening big bad; but it's still possible to BE a big bad and yet keep the scale of things small. Even the huge Requiem War plot we had a few years ago, the one that caused me all the OOC grief, was dealt with by a small group of RPers; with the world events being constricted to raids by Requiem's forces, and everyone's reactions to said raids. There were very many REALLY good short stories by people who don't often write, showing how their characters reacted to those events.

Of course, the big bad in that plot was Requiem, an NPC big bad, so making him that bad was a lot easier than it is with a player character.

100% agreed. I find the entire plot utterly distasteful and way beyond "the line". I'll no longer ICly blank it now that the number have been reduced to a less ridiculous figure, but nor will I pay any attention to it.

^ What he said. Basically, what we have on the Unionverse is a persistent RP world shared by most of the Union RPers. That's why big events like this affect everyone, and why people are rightly annoyed by something that can't ICly BE ignored.

ONLY those directly involved knew what had happened, ICly. Therefore, no one else WAS affected. Period.

Not quite, you failed to understand the story. Nemesis always happened, Ellie was inserted in to his history to make sure he had the chance to happen, as someone else had meddled to STOP him happening. Her job was to preserve the timeline.

If she'd known, she wouldn't have done it, thus changing history.

You're within your rights to do so; especially as it was a wholly personal plot and only involved 2 other people, both whom gave prior agreement before I did it.

Lunk didn't do this, CB did. It's CB's decision whether he keeps it or not. Either way, doesn't matter. It didn't happen as far as any of my chars are concerned. I'm not dealing with it.

In the United States, summer vacation lasts for almost 3 months. The dates vary depending on the location of the school district. Most schools take summer vacation from early to mid June to Labour Day or from late May to late August. School may start as early as late July or early August, often in the southern part of the country.

So it's quite likely that schools in Rhode Island have recommenced by now.
