Quote:Oh, I'm pretty sure I know the technical reasons; I'm a developer and work with SQL Server constantly. What you say is almost certainly the case, but there's no excuse for not looking at the individual cases as the account owners raise a ticket, and change the inactive accounts on request (assuming it's owned by the person raising the ticket).I *am* a DB admin (though not for Paragon or NC). Though every DB is different I'll offer my best guess why it was done this way.
The EU global server is being merged *into* the US one. In order to do so at maximum speed, to keep the maintenance window small, there has to be minimal failure conditions and solutions. In this case, records are copied over, and if one produces an error it's assumed that's because a field required to be unique (the global name or account name) is duplicated. Since this is an automated process and no human will be there to interpret every conflict, the incoming name is changed.
There's only ONE reason I can think of why this can't be done, and can only be done as part of a data import; the account name is part of the primary key.
IF that's the case, then whoever designed the database needs to taken out back and summarily shot. You NEVER use a textual descriptive field such as a name, as a primary key. It breaks just about every rule of database design there is! -
I don't blame you, Beastyle; you just got the job of having to pass on the bad news.. I *do* blame the people who made this dreadful decision.
Poor show on customer service, very poor show. But I've come to expect a poor show when it comes to CS for EU customers. -
Quote:Sorry isn't good enough. You're changing the EU account names, so you CAN change the inactive ones too.I do apologize; however, trial account names will not be changed. I realize this may cause some conflict with EU accounts that share the same name, and again I apologize, however the trial account login names will remain the same.
However, trial account global names will be changed to "trial####," preventing any conflicts with EU global handles.
Sorry for any inconvenience the account name changes may cause.
Which is the better option? Happy customers, or unhappy customers? -

When the Passport badge was first added to the game, the server transfer system didn't even exist...

Quote:Yeah, it should have been in the mail, but it IS in one of the announcement threads. I think it's missing from the FAQ still, too.#Well that's an improvement at least (and would have been useful if they'd mentioned that in the email); still stupid that my account name will change for the same reason.
Update: My ticket has been passed to a higher tier of support. Still waiting on a reply from them. -
Quote:Mate, your global isn't going to be touched by your trial account; they're renaming ALL trial account global names to 'Trial#####'. This thread's about the account names clashing with said trial accounts...*sigh*
No. As I said before, it's because of my global handle, which will be forcibly changed as a result of a clash with my inactive US trial account.
Yes, I could pay to reactivate it - or wait for the free reactivation after my handle has already been changed - and change my global name there, assuming I even have a free rename on it. Only problem is that I either have to pay money and/or waste a global rename to set my "EU" handle back to what it should be.
Point being, all this stupidity could be avoided if they'd just delete my bloody trial account (which they could still do, my support ticket is still open). -
Quote:They're doing the reactivation AT THE SAME TIME, so your EU global is going to get changed no matter what.er... did you miss the "free activation to coincide with the server list merge" thing? I'm planning on using that to change my NA global so I can nick it for my EU account.
/edit
and they've already said you wouldn't lose it to a trial account as all trial accounts are having their global names changed to generic trial names. -
Just got an email, but I raised a support ticket as the name its clashing with is not only also mine (on the same NC master account, too), but it's a dead trial account that hasn't been active in about 4 years!

This problem is getting more and more frustrating. It seems to be getting worse with each subsequent patch too. It's now reached the point for me where I can only get to the forum from my PC 1 out of 10 attempts... But I can access from my phone over 3G just fine.
It's clearly a routing problem... -

Living Relic Sidegrade
Converts a very rare Living Relic Incarnate Component into a different very rare Incarnate Component of your choice. It requires a huge stack of your other Incarnate Threads to do the sidegrade as we think your last 15 runs of the iTrials wasn't enough and you need to do a few more hundred repeats of the same stupid content to get your next unlock.
-

-
Whether it's phrased badly or not, I find that the number of threads you have to burn to do a sidegrade REALLY irritating; especially as they gave the impression that it wouldn't need many.
Quote:I don't call 150 threads, some; I call 150 threads a LOT. Quite a few of us don't have the time to spend hours doing the same 2 sodding trials again and again and again, to get enough threads to sidegrade, you know. Quit turning CoH into WoW!We will be adding free downwards conversions of higher rarity Incarnate Components to your choice of a lower tier, as well as sidegrade conversions of Incarnate Components to your choice of another component in the same rarity tier for the additional cost of some Incarnate Threads. This will be coming in a near-future patch. -
Oh wow.. Classic!

You're wasting your time, guys. GG only understands Black & White, 1 & 0, Ying and Yang. For her, there's nothing in between. No shades of grey allowed in her little world.
-
There's no way that could cause the game to crash. Disconnect, certainly, but crash? Nope.
-
^ Arguing with GG is like asking a hungry shark not to eat you. A waste of effort.
Can we get back on topic please? -

Yeah... It might even be as exciting as last years anniversary address... Or was that year 5? I dunno... Both were so lacklustre they kinda blended into each other...

Quote:Yeah. So consistent that they changed the older arcs (sort of) to fit the new stuff. That's consistent alright. Not.Well, the Praetorian threat has certainly been kept consistent - Tyrant was set up as planning to conquer Primal Earth way back in I1, and the Praetors have remained the same people from I1 through I20 - although GR made them slightly more evil, because it gave us more detail on them - people like Mother Mayhem and Chimera, for example, had a few lines of evil text in the Maria and Tina arcs expanded into entire evil story arcs in GR, while the crimes of Tyrant's dictatorship were fleshed out, rather than just being hinted at in the original arcs.

Quote:Call me cynical, but I'm gonna go with Rikti raids, Zombie attacks, and random outbreaks of supernatural activity. Plus a random reappearance of Snaptooth, Baby New Year, and a bit of skiing. So, is this more Praetorian stuff or could it be the Coming Storm?
Based on previous experience.
Or I could just be being a bit cynical in my old age...
