^ My character was of the opinion that the whole thing was a massive waste of time, and that everyone except her was doomed.
-
I wouldn't want to be a member of a channel run by such uptight mods, so no real loss, tbh.
I mod a channel, but the only rules even slightly enforced are no swearing before 10pm. -
You can't transfer a character to another server unless you have a free slot to put it in.
-
There have been official statements denying things before. Since the ones claiming that the EU offices weren't going to close, I've not believed ANY of them.
-
Quote:They once said there'd be no server list merge too. Hell, they once said they weren't going to merge the forum communities. No, it's not a server merge. No, they are not going F2P. No, it's STILL not a good idea, and the vast majority of the playerbase would like quit in understandable disgust at this game being turned into F2P tripe like that 'Other' Super hero MMO.
Reality check: They will not tell us their long term plans, and a business will do everything it can to reduce costs and maximise profits.
Me and some friends already have a book running on how long before they DO start a server merge process, and none of us see it as being too long around the corner either. There are too many whopping great big hints towards an accellerated schedule.
For one, server list merge, when announced, was going to be towards the end of summer, and now it's in the spring. Now they're testing improved server load management capability, which can only mean they're prepping for a larger server population.
I think that, within 6 months at the most, we're going to start seeing some servers closed down. It only makes sense, why do we need 15 servers? We don't have the population to support that many. -
Quote:Dress it up how you like, defend the devs all you want. You cannot deny that the build up they gave it, and the dates they initially announced, made EVERYONE think it was a near month long event.Where did you get the insight this was related to 7 years of Super?
I got the 7 year badge already, that was last week. This event this month is a "Surge" not an Invasion.
To put things in perspective, men have "surges" and then they go away. Are we on the same page now about this "Month Long Event?" -
Quote:The Devs could just say this whole thing is not worth it and give up entirely. Let's hope you guys don't push them towards that option. The developers have lives too, you know.
<snip>
If all they wanted to do was test the servers under load, then they should have just said that. There's plenty of people who'd have loved to help.. But no, they dressed it up in story, made it appear like there was going to be some big invasion event lasting most of May, get everyone looking forward to the whole thing.
Then they pull the rug out from everyone and reveal that it's just 3 hours on one day, for each server, and you're surprised people are annoyed? -
Pretty much the same response I ended up with. Very shonky way to treat customers IMO.
-
I don't really care about the silly badge. It's the whole event looking a complete lame duck that I'm annoyed about!

Quote:The first golden rule of software development. So they found the bug that delayed it without testing? That's pretty impressive
Also, when they announced the first merge date, they said that it could be changed if they found a bug
NEVER give the users a release date unless you KNOW it will ship on that date. Anything else makes you look incompetant. -

Wednesday is my busy night. I don't get time for play until shortly before 9...

The roleplayer community, at least on Union anyway, was REALLY looking forward to this event. The initial posting of this gave the impression that it would last for most of the month of May, and we were making plans for that; including a large "Council or War" type RP meetup and lots and lots of war related fiction, much in the same way that we did when the 2nd Rikti War started.
Now we find out that it's not lasting most of May, it's not even lasting a full day. In fact, it's only lasting for THREE HOURS on any one server. For us, on Union, that's next Wednesday 6pm to 9pm UK time; when most of us probably won't even get a chance to log on anyway (I'll be able to log in for about 30 minutes at the MOST!).
Please please PLEASE resonsider this. We get that the main reason for this if for you guys to stress test some things, and possibly to promote the global server access thing, but we RPers have a home. We're not gonna transfer our chars to other servers (at huge cost!) and we're not going to make wussy level 1 versions of our powerful chars for it either. We want to use this fun storyline you have for us with our powerful characters, and we want it to be as involving as the Rikti war was.
I'm sure the non-RPer community were looking forward to a few weeks of intense invasion fun as well, so we can't be the ONLY ones dissappointed by the reality of your plans, given the impression from the initial announcement...
We're not asking for a month, but really... Three hours? That's pretty much unusable AT ALL! Please reconsider this and at LEAST keep the event running on the servers for a week? Please? Pretty please?
-
It's not even one day though, is it? It's a THREE HOUR war...
-
Well, seeing as it's now going to be a 1 day only thing, is a "Council of War" even going to be needed?
I dunno... Give everyone the impression that we've got the best part of a month of invasion events, then take that away and tell us its one day only... Fer WHY!? -
Quote:Precogs? Sure... But this sets his character up as "The man", the most important character of the whole plot, who forsaw the approach of doom and called people together to fight it, and no-one character should be set above anothers in this way, not for worldwide plots. We are all equals, and all deserve equal billing. Anything else NEVER ends well (history proves this!)How so? Yalls have no precogs on Union? None at all? Heh, if that's the case, I might just have to revive Seer 666 once the server lists merge. Hee hee hee...that could be fun.
In any case though, he said "among those", not "the one", so there could be any number of people who have some means of knowing - or guessing, whichever way you want to see it.
Besides, we already have a canon explanation for being forewarned, and don't need any more than that. -
Some comments I'd like to make...
Quote:Sorry, that's metagaming and grandstanding in one go. The whole idea of the war council is a good one, but we shouln't be letting one character take charge of the whole thing like that. The Priest is among those who've had visions of the Coming Storm.
2 alternate suggestions.
1. "Reacting to a warning from the Freedom Phalanx, several organisations, encompassing both heroes and criminals, decided to call a meeting to discuss the imminent threat, and strategies on how to respond to it."
2. "Following the initial waves of attacks from Praetorian forces, several organisations, encompassing both heroes and criminals, have agreed to meet and discuss how to combat this new threat."
The first is a possible way to respond to advance warning from the canon storyline, and isn't metagaming OR grandstanding, the second is a purely reactive response to the invasion (just like how the 2nd Rikti invasion was handled).
Either of this alternative (or variations therein), avoid any kind of metagaming or grandstanding from any one individual.
We have no way of knowing what the devs actually have planned for us, so pre-empting the invasion has many inherent pitfalls to it. What we might consider reasonable assumptions may not actually happen at all, making a lot of effort go to waste. Also, we run the risk of taking the RP far off course from the intended canon story line; something I'd rather avoid. There WILL be players who do not want to be involved with any larger RP plot connecting to the canon plot. We should take care not to infringe upon them, so following the canon plot as closeley as we can should be a primary aim.
Hopefully, people will use the opportunity to write lots of fiction, in the same way that people did for the Rikti invasion. Given how that thread went, I'm of the opinion that reacting to the events "real time", as if your chars had no advance warning of the mass invasion, allows for some brilliant spontaneous fiction! For that reason, I would kind of prefer a more reactive plotline, than a pro-active one. It worked great before, there's no reason why it can't work great again.

Quote:Raise a ticket. Despite what Beastyle says, it's worth a shot. If enough people do that and ask nicely for something to be done, it might help push them to change their minds.Unless there are severe technical issues involved as described above those that are in the position above it would be good customer service to allow those in this position be given the oppurtunity to raise a ticket and have the inactive US account name changed before the server list merge.
Just make sure you make it clear that the inactive account is on the same master account. It's probably the only incidence where we have a chance of persuading them to change policy. -
Quote:According to a recent announcement, the merge is now scheduled for next Tuesday, May 10th.Well, as of this morning I would've asked that the location for this be moved from the RWZ to Studio 55 since I have a character currently in Praetoria who was slated to come to Union, but since the devs have postponed the server list merge indefinitely, I guess I won't be joining this.
So I'll just o the one thing I can: wish you luck and tell you that there's no reason to be nervous. Just let it flow as it does, just like you said you've been advised already, and focus on having fun.

Bottom of the first post.
So you can still join in. -
I wont be able to stay for all of the first meeting.
Unfortunately, I have to pick up my other half from work at 7:40.
-
Quote:Ah, but neither of those reasons make it technically impossible to do. They just require a little additional support. There are TWO reasons I can think of, and that's not one of them.
1) It's a different department - the servers are operated by a completely different department *and* location than Support. Support personnel are limited by the tools they're given.
2) Timing - the server maintenance will probably take place during a time when support isn't active. Additionally, reading through thousands of tickets and performing those actions first would delay the maintenance for several hours. -
Quote:This is purely conjecture, as I don't know if their tables are configured this way, however, it's possible that, for some insane reason, when they designed the table structure, they set the account name as part of the primary key.Im sorry I still dont get it.
Why they can change my account name, being an active and loyal customer, 45 months veteran, but they cant change a trial account name, which is unusable, closed, temporal, obsolete and even forgotten?
Im sorry, but I see it plain silly.
Of course, I rather have "EUWhatevername"as account name and enjoy the GSA, but I dont understand why is so hard for the devs to fix this.
Primary key fields are always unique, form the main index on the table, and cannot be changed at all. To "change" it, you have to basically create an entire new record with a new key, and delete the old one. You'd have to do this for every single linked table as well, which could result in a LOT of table changes.
It's easy to do when importing records into the tables, as will be the case with all EU accounts, as any key collisions can be detected during the import process, and changed before insert into the destination tables.
Beastyle: Can you confirm if the tables ARE configured this way? If so, then we'll just have to accept the change as there's little that can be done in any real sense. If not, then there's no valid technical excuse for not doing it and the decision is purely for support reasons.
