Hmm... An intersting idea, though one that has been used several times in different ways by others. One such is the MYRS project thought up by Zortel (which was based off an idea by Wordmaker, a long since left RPer); it's kind of a youth reform project where powered delinquents get a monitoring chip implanted (that can shutdown their abilities), and signed on as probationers with established SG's in an effort to reform them. Of course, that doesn't mean you can't put your own spin on criminal reform. I would, though, strongly consider having regular heroes running the SG, and reformed criminals being "probationers", as that'a a more likely scenario.

I would try to avoid directly using canon game characters like BAB and Blue Steel myself. You could easily end up in a sticky situation when you want to do something that they just wouldn't allow. Also, as others said; it's usually considered godmodding to use other peoples characters without consent. You CAN, however, get away with using them by inference. I don't know if you read my Rikti Invasion story, The Line; but in that I clearly am using Sunstorm later in the story, but I never refer to him as anything other than the "red and gold clad hero". It's clear in the story WHO he is, but as I never name him I had a level of uncertainty there that gave me greater freedom of how I used him, and avoided the whole "You can't use a canon character" issue.

Interesting story, but if I may offer a couple of minor criticisms.

You shouldn't mix dialogue and narrative in the same sentence, or even paragraph. It makes the story harder to read and a little confusing.

Get someone else to proof read for you. There are a few instances where words are either missing, or mis-typed. Having done this myself a few times, I well know the value of getting someone not familiar with the story to read it through for you, prior to posting. They will catch mistakes your own mind automatically corrects.

As it's a "flashback", the story would read far better, IMO, in past tense instead of current tense. For example, you have:

Yep. There are plenty of free shoutbox applets available; or you can do it of MSN or similar also. Hell, you could even do it in a base or somewhere else private, over local chat, then transcribe the log.

In the past, when I've done fiction involving combat between mine and other peoples characters, we've actually RPed the combat scene over IRC. I then take that and transcribe it to story, and send it off to the other party for approval/changes. I find it works much better that way as it adds a level of uncertainty.

I certainly have no desire to tell you how to play your own characters, but doesn't that kinda defeat the whole point of the Praetorian universe? The people there are meant to be polar opposites to those in our universe, so having a good guy Praetorian copy of a good guy over here is kind of a waste...

Of course, he's your char and play him how you like, but it really does defeat the purpose...

You can rename your CohUpdater.exe to the correct filename. It'll work, but you'll only get English language.

Does the file "CohUpdater.EU.exe" exist in your CoH folder? If not, you've downloaded the US client not the EU one and this thread will tell you what to do to correct that.

If you DO have the file, I'd guess that the game doesn't like the Vista 64bit folder path (the (x86) part ), so try moving into, for example, C:\Games
