It's times like this that I really regret only having a level 14 villain as my highest.

Really? I'd have sworn you'd have been an old skool PnPer FFM.

To my shame, I used to take the Mickey out of the "weirdo's with the dice" at school.
I'm better now, though... And am a quick learner!

And oddly I don't really get online roleplaying, it seems way too restrictive to me to be shoehorning it into a game (and the game aspect distracts me too much).
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes and no.. In game RPing is a good way to learn, but is a little restrictive. But I do most of mine on IRC these days, which has no limits. -

Voice comms are useless in an RP environment, Londoner. Kind of immersion breaking when the cute Swedish blonde you're chatting to has the voice of a brickie from Glasgow.
[/ QUOTE ]
Really? What did ye used to do back in the PnP days?
[/ QUOTE ]
I didn't.CoH is my first RPing experience!
I'd imagine, though, that generally people didn't switch genders... It's a bit immersion breaking afterall! -

My only pet hate in RP land are lesbian cat-girls.
Know any Lesbian Cat-Girls anyone?
[/ QUOTE ]
I know one or two, but would never play such a creature... Ever.
Now... ALIEN lesbian cat-girls... -
Oh, I think everyone accepts certain thinks like a pat on the shoulder and a shake of the hand... It's how you do it in real life too, after all. I meant more the "Character A punches character B in the face and shatters his nose" type of god modding. That annoys the HELL outta me, and perpetrators should be strung up by their D6's!
-
That works in comics because comics are a story. RP isn't a story, it has a "life" of its own. Generally, it's considerably less fun if you know that you can't lose.
Anyway... I'm not saying you can't DO them... I'm just saying they're a pet hate of mine! -
This is just a personal opinion, but generally, when I conceive a plot, I don't actually have a clue what's going to happen in the end! I keep a few key points in mind so I can prod it at times, but the overall shape and outcome of the plot are decided on by those taking part, not me. I'm even prepared for that character to die, if that's the way things go...
That way, *I* get to have just as much fun as the players are, cause I don't have a sodding clue what's going to happen!(And yes, that applies to my current plot with Burned Ice.
). They're usually as open as I can make them, and anyone is free to take part, or not, as they choose. It won't affect anyone outside of those taking part, and some of my own chars of course.
Anyway... Back to pet hates in RP...
God modders! KILL!! -

No, he means plots like yours, that if everyone ignored, still wouldn't end the world.
[/ QUOTE ]
But isn't the whole point of going through with such a plot line that in the end you'll get stopped be left in the ruin of your lab hands above you fists clenched screaming
"RICHAAAAAAAARDDDDS!!!!"
[/ QUOTE ]
End of the World plots are, and can only ever be, railroaded; by their very definition. It has a foregone conclusion because, no matter what you do, the bad guy CANNOT win. It's very rare to persuade uninterested people that your plot is even happening, let alone threatening the world. That's why, IMO, it's better to run plots that just affect small groups of people. Minimises player conflicts, makes them easier to keep a handle on, and are generally more fun.
Of course, YMMV, but it's pretty hard to convince players that their world is going to end. -

Exactly. In fact... Even if all the heroes & villains involved HELPED the bad guy end the world... It still wouldn't end. -
Another pet hate. End of the World plots.
It doesn't matter how spiffy you think your plot is, you cannot end the world, and you cannot force anyone to think it's going to end, so why bother? It just annoys people who are going to have to ignore whatever it is you're doing, and are nothing but railroaded ego-fests with a foregone conclusion. -
Pet hate in RP? Grammar & spelling nazi's. Not everyone is as proficient in the language as you may be yourself. If it's understandable, leave it be.

Cara Trance, the young girl known to the world as the hero Burned Ice, sat huddled on the floor of her bedroom; her back to the corner by the window and her knees hugged to her chest. Her expression was blank as she gazed at her bedroom door; the barely muffled sounds of the argument in the main room of the small apartment she shared with her mom coming through the flimsy wood.
Danny, her mom's boyfriend, was drunk again.
She dropped her forehead to her bare knees and put her hands over her ears as she tried to block out the shouts and screams; and the occasional thud of something being thrown against the wall as the two adults fought.
She hated Danny for being like this, and her mom was no better! Things were so much better before her brother, Andy, had gotten sent to the Zig for hanging with some Outcast buddies of his; but since he'd gone and Danny had moved in, things had rapidly gotten worse and worse.
She glanced over at the uniform slung over the back of the ratty armchair near her bed; it's white and blue colours almost glowing in the dim moonlight streaming through the dirty window. Joining the Unity Vigil had seemed like a good idea at the time, but what with all the trouble at home, and now that BODICIA finding out about it, she doubted that would carry on much longer. After all, who'd want someone with her problems in their perfect group?
The sounds of the argument suddenly ended with a sharp slapping sound, followed a second later by the thud of something falling to the floor, and Cara's gaze snapped back towards the door. Heavy footsteps sounded in the hall, approaching her room, and she hugged her knees even tighter to herself as her body started to tremble.
The footsteps stopped outside her door, and with a crash, it was flung open to reveal Danny. He was dressed in his usual grubby jeans and leather jacket, and a bottle of bourbon hung loosely from his left hand. He gazed in to the room, and seeing the hero costume on the armchair, frowned deeply.
"I told you, kid, keep away from them damned capes. Looks like I'm gonna have to tell ya again, don't it?" He growled. Dropping the bottle to the floor, he unbuckled his thick leather belt and pulled it out of the waist of his jeans, then began to wrap it slowly around his fist.
"You gotta learn to listen to what I tell ya, kid... You gotta learn the hard way." He growled again, and took a step into the room. -

Well done Soul Asylum! Very well earned!

Ice looked at Bodicia, a huge grin on her face as she tried hard not to burst out laughing at the gynoids discomfiture.
Covering her hand with her mouth, she got up and headed quickly towards the bathrooms. Seconds before the door closed behind her, a loud and high pitched laugh burst out from her, silenced only by the door's closing.
