Yeah, but that's not a problem is it? We don't kill in the game, we arrest.

[ QUOTE ]
It's interesting reading the LIMITATIONS ON USE OF FORCE IN LAW ENFORCEMENT, with half a mind to how they could be applied to super heroes.
[/ QUOTE ]
Interesting indeed. I think this part is of most relevance...
[ QUOTE ]
The use of deadly force is not justifiable unless:
(1) The actor effecting the arrest is authorized to act as a peace officer or has been summoned by and is assisting a person whom he reasonably believes to be authorized to act as a peace officer, and
(2) The actor reasonably believes that the force employed creates no substantial risk of injury to innocent persons, and
(3) The actor reasonably believes that the crime for which the arrest was made was homicide, kidnapping, sexual assault, criminal sexual contact, arson, robbery, burglary of a dwelling, or an attempt to commit one of these crimes, and
(4) The actor reasonably believes:
(a) There is an imminent threat of deadly force to himself or to a third party, or
(b) The use of deadly force is necessary to thwart the commission of a crime listed above, or
(c) The use of deadly force is necessary to prevent an escape.
[/ QUOTE ]
1. We are authorised
2. We can't hurt NPC's
3. They're always up to something like that.
4. All covered too!
So... We ARE legally empowered to use deadly force when we have to.
[ QUOTE ]
I always assumed that registered heroes would get subsidised housing allowances, health care, and public liability insurance thrown in as part of their registration.
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't see it as a problem to assume such, and indeed, I have assume various benefits are available to registered heroes who request it; but as far as I know, that's purely an IC assumption. There's nothing in the game canon to support it. -
They way I've always seen it is because we ARE legally empowered to act in the name of the law, we are, in effect, the same as police special constables. We have all the legal authority, and all the same legal restrictions, as regular police. The only difference is that we're not officially employed and salaried by the state.

Since when does Recluse have any patience?
Patients, maybe.. But no patience!

So, what you're telling us is that Villain Epic ATs are actually a sexual disease?
-
My personal opinion.
Where canon exists, one should not break it unless one doesn't mind getting ignored. Where it doesn't exist, or there are gaps; by all means make reasonable extrapolations.
But I'm not gonna get all het up about people that choose to totally ignore it. I just won't RP with them, simple. -

not to mention the catgirl that didn't really join but has a fragment but is the most powerful PB in the UNIVERSE...
[/ QUOTE ]
Huh? Dude, I've explained Ellie's origin to you often enough, and you STILL get it wrong? -
[ QUOTE ]
yeah... cos that's what people do with PB/WS...
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah... Tell that to the undead vampire nictus catgirl hero who kills other heroes.

i downloaded the eu 14 day trial cause i couldn't find the american one, now i can't log on, pretty much the same as LeRoi. says i don't have the correct id or password. do i need the american 14 day trial?
[/ QUOTE ]
Did you install it on 'C:/Program Files/City of Heroes'? If so, just head to the file and rename the CohUpdater.EU.exe file to CohUpdater.exe
[/ QUOTE ]
That's only if you want to access the US servers, and your trial account is for the US servers. Odds are he fell victim to the install bug that makes a shortcut to the US servers. If he reverses your instructions, he should be fine. -
You can put the 2 CoH executables into Windowsblinds exception list, and it should work fine. It's a known problem with Windowsblinds, but not so easy to diagnose as people don't generally say they're actually using it.

Irad has a power suit that let's him control earth and compress it into radioactive material.
He's not uspersmaart, super rich or part of an organization.
Of course when whoever made it finally try get it back that'll be a different story!
[/ QUOTE ]
So he nicked it? What about maintenance, repairs and refuelling/recharging? -
[ QUOTE ]
hehehe.. and the character is copyrighted... Historical character s aren't copyrighted.
And from some .. like Dracula... the copyright is not valid anymore.
Also... if you base upon a real life historic figure. You can still be creative on what happened after history is done with it.
[/ QUOTE ]
What do legalities like copyright have to do with plagiarising? The thread is about where the line lies between originality and outright copying. There are many many characters in game that are direct copies of fictional or historical characters. That's not a problem as such, but it IS plagiarising, unoriginal, and unimaginative.
I have a character that is the same; my aforementioned Olympiad Prime. It's blatantly clear that he's an Ironman near clone, and I make no secret of that, why should I? Like I said, it's not a problem as such, but one should admit to the lack of originality, and even embrace it. He makes a nice change sometimes from playing my original main character, Tiger White. -
I have a powersuited hero, and he's in red & gold too.
But his name is totally different, Olympiad Prime. I don't RP him that often, but his history isn't THAT different to Stark either.
He's a mega-rich industrialist and researcher; but unlike the Ironman armour, which was always a weapon; the Prime armour is actually an armoured suit designed for heavy construction in extreme environments such as space or deep sea, and has just been modified a little from its original design purpose. Hence the colour scheme too. Most construction equipment tends to be yellow, with some red at times.
All the weapons are modified construction equipment; so a plamsa welder becomes a plasma cannon, and so forth.
As for why he altered the armour to become a hero. It's to do with attempts at industrial espionage from certain dodgy corporations in game. -
OK, with the news that we're going to get a mission creator of some kind, it's given me the thought that maybe, just maybe, we could do with something to help us plan arcs and so on. Such a program could have the following features:
<ul type="square"> [*]Level Range [*]Mob Type[*]Map Type & Size[*]Opening dialog[*]NPC dialog[*]Mission Objectives[*]Clues[*]Completion dialog (for success or failure)[*]Story arc support with branching options at each start point to specific missions (Presuming they give us the branching feature in the creator).[/list]
Such a program would, of course, only store the actual story dialog/descriptions. It wouldn't actually be able to create the missions themselves; but it would, I think, be a great aid towards laying out our story arcs prior to actually creating them in-game. Then it could just be a matter of copy & pasting.
Assuming I decided to go ahead and develop up such a program, what would be the interest in it? And if you like the idea, what other features do you think would be needed? -
I know I'm going to be spending the next few months plotting!
Also, we could do some previous RP plots as flashback arcs.. Requiem War anyone? -
Does it really matter if an RPer is adding the occasional foreign word? If it helps their immersion and you can understand it, why is it an issue?
Minako can add all the Japanese words she likes... Loup can add all the Creole he wants... Red can swear in Russian all he likes, and <bleep!> Ellie off, and she'll yowl at you in cat and make you go deaf all she likes! -

OI! I heard that!

That's a ruddy good trick on a text forum! -
Ellie speaks English, some French and Spanish, Cat and Kheldian.

shields are already in teh game! galaxy ascendant
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, they're called Ascendants, not Galaxy Ascendants. -
I'll just add one thing. Since CoV launch, I've hardly ever bothered to play it, and in fact, in over a year, my highest villain was level 14.
This weekend, I've been playing CoV a LOT (well, as much as my not feeling well video card would let me), and gotten a villain to 20. I fully intend to have a 50 by the time i12 is released.
I don't really call that boring; do you? Boring things don't generally inspire people to play a part of the game they've never really enjoyed up 'till now. -

I'm used to seeing you post more mature comments. A little disappointed personally.

If you're gonna quote me, Swissy, at least quote me in FULL, please. You know, the rest of the post where I WAS being more mature.
This bit.

How about, instead of judging them from a video and a couple of screenshots; you try waiting until we've been able to PLAY them?
After all, you wouldn't judge someone accused of a crime in the newspapers as guilty without a trial, would you?
[/ QUOTE ]
People need to stop moaning that the VEATs are this and that whilst, at the moment, all we've seen are a couple of screenies and a video. By all means, complain about them AFTER YOU'VE ACTUALLY PLAYED THEM; but until then it's just whinging for the benefit of whinging.
[ QUOTE ]
so uhm.. wahh waah waah, somebody give me my bib please. I seem to have spilled baby food all over my crotch.
[/ QUOTE ]
And you said *I* was being immature?
Just my 2p worth, but it makes zero sense for the VEATs to have different animations and power effects to the NPC groups they are a part of. If people don't like that, don't play them. -

More people do than dont, thats why they have reporting restrictions before big media attention trials.
