Besides, I won't be back to that store, it's not fair having to update drivers on a almost new pc (just a month or so).

    [/ QUOTE ]

This kind of thing really isn't the stores fault though. They sell hardware with the drivers the manufacturers supply them with. Driver updates tend to happen so fast that even the absolute latest thing to be released, on launch day, is likely to have new drivers available already.

Whenever I buy hardware, I *never* install with the driver discs supplied. It's always best to go straight to the manufacturers website and download the latest drivers from them. It's also a good idea to check BIOS updates and see if they've addressed any problems you might be experiencing.

Case in point, I just built a brand new rig. The motherboard I got was sold as compatible with Intel's new 45nm CPU's, like the E8400, so I got one of them too. Turns out the board IS compatible, but only after flashing the BIOS to a newer version than shipped. That left me with a board and CPU I couldn't use as the board wouldn't boot with a CPU it didn't recognize yet. I ended up driving 42 miles to a friends house to borrow HIS CPU, flash the board, put mine back in, and then boot it. Very annoying, but not really the fault of the store as they sold me exactly what I ordered.

It'd be different if you ordered something AFTER telling them you want all the latest drivers etc pre-installed; but if you didn't, it's not the stores fault.

Personally, I think it would be easier to force a server resynch on using the /stuck command, or a new /resynch command.

    Guess what!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Ooooh! I made a suggestion that came true!

Awesomesauce! I really hope this helps people suffering from this!

I think it unlikely because there's obviously a lot of code involved. Contacts know if you're male or female, there are male and female badge differences - that's going to be a lot trickier than simply body shape.

    [/ QUOTE ]

i was waiting for someone to say this...

    [/ QUOTE ]

You waited a fair while then! I mention minor issues re gender referencing from contacts and badges over an hour before Stase's post!
  4. [ QUOTE ]

I think i have to give kudos to Statisesque, he put my point across alot better than i could've.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hey Stase, you have a sex change or something?

    oh, and Shockwave said:

No, Why and also Whats the point.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes, Why not? For conceptual reasons. There's a LOT more to this game than just pwning your buddies in the PvP zones, boyo. Comics have plenty of examples of both gender and size changing. Hell, one of my RP friends has a gendermorph character, and my own main is a shapeshifter. Would be nice to be able to portray such characters properly, and beyond the minor technical reasons of contacts and badges referring to you as the gender initial design, there really is no problem with it.

And for those going on about transgender issues, it REALLY doesn't have any bearing on this suggestion you know, and isn't really appropriate for this forum I think.

As for the OP. It's not a new suggestion, but it's a perfectly valid one that I agree with!

    So... /signed!
  5. Virgin Media, Cable, South East region. No problems.
  6. I'm on Virgin Media (cable, not ADSL), and have zero problems with desynching.
  7. Hey, if I told you guys what I REALLY called my PC, you'd start giving me funny looks and sidle away!
  8. FWIW, brand new rig built over the weekend, consisting of:

    E8400 Intel Core 2 Duo CPU @ 3ghz
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L Motherboard with latest BIOS
    4 gig Corsair 800mhz RAM
nVidia 8800GT running latest video drivers
    Vista x64 Ultimate Edition

Currently running smooth as silk, not a single crash in ANY games so far. Never seen CoH looking so good, and smooth.
  9. Good point. Still, as Generalissimo says; it's not too hard to join up the dots.
  10. GR, is it possible for you to let us know which UK ISP you're referring too?

Ah, it was my search fu after all...

Ok, it seems that enough people are angry about the situation, so I have to ask:
Did all of you contacted support yet and provided info that they requested?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I would, but so far I've been fortunate enough to not be affected by the issue. Doesn't mean I don't sympathise with you guys though.

Hit the nail on the head. People farm badges all the time. Perhaps you could be a little more tolerant and a lot less like the ze Gestapo.

Whoohoo! We have a Godwin! That was pretty quick too!

Why only EU players have that problem?

Either my search fu is only strong at EU forum (I've discovered several threads about the ghost bug, the oldest is from spring '07, but nothing at US forum), either entire US has 100% excellent routers and all the faulty routers popped up at Europe only...

    [/ QUOTE ]

Oh it's most definitely happening in the US as well...

fixed my desync problem just took the router out of the equation and the problem solved itself

    [/ QUOTE ]

I wouldn't say it solved itself. I'd say YOU solved it by taking the router out of the equation!

Sounds like you have a fault on your router.

This is pretty accurate. The reason why a teleport fixes the problem is because teleport includes a resync command.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Bah, he was just copying what I posted right before him!

And still... Giving us a manual resynch WOULD be a good workaround, seeing as they can't repeat the problem...

Unfortunatelly /stuck command doesn't fix it for me.
A /resync command on the other hand, will be a good solution. But if they build a resync function, they could also make the client to resync anyway at each zoning instead of adding it as a command, don't you think?

I believe that the problem is two-fold:<ul type="square">[*]They can't replicate the problem in-house[*]Not enough people provide info about the problem[/list]
    [/ QUOTE ]

Based purely on my own guesses as to what happens (but as a developer myself, they're educated guesses), when you zone, you will synch with the server anyway. What seems to happening though, is that some data packets for this resynch are getting dropped, causing only a partial synch, and they're not resent.

Adding additional code to verify that server syncronisation succeeded on zoning would probably go a long way to resolving it yes; but at the same time, it can only be a good idea to add a feature to manually force a server resynch.

Further, the suggestion with regards a temp TP power to assist those affected has been taken on board by the team at NCNC.

  18. Hmm... I take it you're not running SP1 on your Vista x64 installation, due the Dutch one not being ready yet?
  19. Surely it would have been quicker to try an earlier driver version?

Incidentally, which driver version were you using? I just got a new rig, and part of it is an 8800GT...

  22. There's a little in SG's, but for general RP, you need to be on Union.
  23. What do you expect them to say? That they're working on it? They've already said that, so what more CAN they say?
  24. Perhaps they could help alleviate matters by giving the players a way to force a server resynch, perhaps with a /resynch command? It's not a proper fix, but would at least help a lot of players get going again.
  25. Actually... I was swearing at mine last night.. I'd summon them.. and they just FLOATED there for the full 30 seconds of their life before finally exploding. I'd almost gotten clobbered by the time they decided to blow...

Still, Castle says he's fixed them now, so hopefully they'll be OK soon™.
