What do you expect them to do, keep the servers up even though there was a game breaking problem? It was an emergency due to a serious problem in the latest patch. They had no choice and, as has already been explained, a longer message would have just taken longer to get signed off and translated to the other 2 languages.
What happened yesterday afternoon (it was a lot earlier than 7pm for the UK), is NOT a normal situation; far from it. As for people not reading the forums to check for announcement, that's their OWN fault. EVERYONE is told, when they first register their game, to use the forum for the latest updates and announcements. If people don't avail themselves of that resource, that's their own fault; not NC's.

This is an often seen problem and is 99% of the time caused by a bad driver installation; either video drivers or motherboard drivers.
Your best option is to uninstall the drivers, then download Driver Cleaner (you can still get the free version 1.5 if you Google it), and run that in SAFE mode. This will remove all signs of the drivers (the uninstall procedure leaves some junk behind). The reinstall your latest drivers.
It's best to reinstall your motherboard drivers too. -
I wouldn't. There are quite legitimate reasons for having to exit a mish and restart it later. Sometimes people have to go AFK and stuff, you know.
-
I've been doing some research on this problem, and have found this most interesting link.
http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device...m_timeout.mspx
Looks like the problem is partly down to Vista's Timout Detection and Recovery subsystem. The video driver is busy, so Vista times it out. That link has instructions on how to alter the timeout value, or disable the TDR function.
NOTE: MESS WITH THESE VALUES AT YOUR OWN RISK!!
Other reasons which have cropped up are insufficient voltages and cheap RAM. You can find some suggestions for RAM voltages etc in the following thread.

Again, MESS WITH THESE VALUES ARE YOUR OWN RISK!! -

You could only really compare the two if you let someone team, probably several times to gain their trust, and then deliberately got them multiple faceplants; or repeatedly killing the same person in PvP, not even letting them out of the zone (difficult, but possible). THEN, it could be considered griefing.
[/ QUOTE ]
Except, unless they've changed the policy while I was away, pretty much nothing is considered griefing in PvP Zones. If the game allows it then it's fair play.
[/ QUOTE ]
I know, hence I said *could* instead of *would*
Red names HAVE also said that repeatedly attacking the same person, making it impossible for them to do anything, COULD be considered griefing (quite rightly too IMO).
In either case, it's still not really comparable to what seems to have happened to the OP, as that seems preplanned. -
[ QUOTE ]
If I kill someone in a PvP and that causes them distress - am I breaking the rules? If I don't let a level 1 join a level 50 teama nd that causes them distress am I breaking the rules?
[/ QUOTE ]
The two are not comparable. If we are to believe the OP's side of things, this entire thing appears to be a "sting" operation; designed entirely to gain trust and them steal from him, betraying that trust. Killing someone in PvP or not letting them team is totally different.

Hope the @name being chuckled around is just a nickname and not the actual name, btw.

We're all using the nom de plume for him. The OP *did* originally post the guys name though.. -

Taking a look at those, we can immediately see that @SneakyThief has already broken rule 1 straight away, so one has to ask; why DON'T NC take action against salvage thieves? It's a clear breach of the rules, after all... -
@OP
Sorry to hear about what happened, but how do you know nothing will be done to @sneakythief? Okay, it's unfortunate that you won't get your stuff back, but there's no way of telling that @sneakythief won't at the very least get a warning over this, because company policy is to never reveal details of any punishment a rule breaker receives.
So, it may be that he'll receive SOME kind of sanction, but you'll never know about it unless he tells you. -
Step 1. Do NOT install XP64. Vista supports FAR more hardware than XP64 does, and is way more stable.
Step 2. Use Asus, as they make some of the best and most stable boards on the market.
Step 3. Don't listen to Sorudo. -

IMO, their best course of action, engine update wise, would be to throw away OpenGL and go pure DirectX. DX is far more efficient at what it does, and would run on lesser hardware whilst giving better output.
Of course, along with a new 3D engine, new geometry for the avatars is a must too! -
Personally, I've suspected for some time that a major game update will be reaching us not long before the competition come online. I won't be terribly surprised if there's a game engine upgrade in it either. Not that I'm saying we WILL, or that it'll come for issue 13... I just suspect it might happen soon.

Guys... It's not votes.. It's merely nominations for entries....

this whole issue was beaten to death last month or maybe the month before that it go's something like this
Marvel launched a lawsuit against NCsoft/cryptic on the grounds that the games costume creator could be used to breach marvel copy right
but before it got as far as court room (makes me wonder how strong exactly marvels case was) marvel NCsoft and cryptic came to a agreement this agreement may or may not stop them from releasing a offline costume creator but nobody outside of those 3 company's knows as they cant tell joy public what was agreed to (daft but that's law for you)
and that's about as much as any one knows everything else is guess work.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, that's not quite correct. The lawsuit DID go to court, and the part about infringing characters having already been created in the game was actually thrown out by the judge; primarily because said infringing characters had actually been made by Marvel themselves.
The rest of the case though, never concluded. Marvel, Cryptic and NCSoft came to an out of court agreement, the terms of which were never made public, and the whole thing was dropped. That's when the offline creator was no longer allowed to be used in the US or EU markets.
Regarding that existing offline creator. It's totally useless these days as it's hopelessly out of date; containing costume pieces only up to issue 3 or 4. It was originally designed just for showing at exhibitions and though it got a small update for the Korean launch, it was full of bugs. -

Hi,
about 6 months ago this Thread was started and got very heated among some of us.
We are now 6 momnths on from this and I would like to say that those that predicted salvage prices would fall from this were correct.
Yesterday I got dropped a Mu Vestment and a Black Blood of the Mandate. These used to sell for 2 - 3 million inf each, and yesterday they sold for 600,000 and 60,000 inf respectively.
No point to this thread apart from pointing out that some people who seemed to be so anti-farming to the point of it must be removed and stopped at all costs were wrong as we now all benifit
[/ QUOTE ]
You can't make such a judgment based purely on the past and present prices of just two items of salvage. Sure, they're cheaper now than then; but there are plenty of other things which are way more expensive now than then as well.
To come to a conclusion that farming does/doesn't effect prices, you have to study the ENTIRE market; taking regular readings of every single item for sale in the AH and comparing it against items being collected by farmers. The only people with access to the data to do this are NCSoft, not the players.
You're just trying to find justification for your farming, when really, there isn't one. Some people like doing it, some people don't. Neither side will convince the other that their view is right, because we just don't have the data to be able to make a reliable analysis. -
Suggestion. Have those getting lots of crashes tried running CoH in Windowed mode, instead of full screen?
-
Indeed. CoH is well known to NOT work well with SLi configurations. You will have to disable the second card.
-
TBH, I think the ONLY buff Kheldians could do with, is to make Cosmic Balance/Dark Sustenance work in forms. It's conceptually silly for their inherent ability to cease working just because they change form, especially as it's only an energy based copy of the real thing. They STILL remain Kheldians, so their inherent should still function.
-
S'funny... My PB (a triform) is pretty much a mini-tankmage and kicks the <bleep> out of anything stupid enough to get in her way. Solo she kicks bum; teamed, with the correct team makeup, she shreds everything and can even face down an AV whilst the rest of the team recovers.
Whenever there's a Rikti raid, I have NEVER been faceplanted, yet I've seen tanks, blasters, trollers, the lot, get taken out. Mainly because they don't have access to the mixture of resistance, damage and heals Khelds do. They key is to know when to backup, shift form, and go back in. It only takes a couple of seconds, and then you're back in the action. With the right team, I don't even worry about getting my shields up right away, and since the quantum nerf, I don't even have to worry about them either.
You're making the mistake of comparing Khelds with regular AT's. A common mistake because you CAN'T really compare them. They're not like ANY other AT in the game and require actual tactics to play successfully. OK, so they can't buff team mates; but neither can many other AT's, so that point really isn't that relevant.
Ravenswing is right in that the title of "epic AT" really isn't appropriate. They're an advanced AT, that puts CoH into "hard" mode and require a lot more thought than your regular button mashing techniques. For me, they are my most favourite of AT, way above any of the others. -

Well I work in IT and Vista makes me wanna cry daily - its one of the 4 horrors of IT:
Vista;
Wireless Networking;
People using their laptops like an ashtray, dropping it, then lying about it; and
A shortage of caffeine.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah? Well, so do I.
Vista is great to use, and works perfectly. It ran on my 3 year of P4 perfectly, with no problems EVER (until the PC itself expired). It runs on my new kit perfectly too. It runs on my new laptop perfectly as well.
And your list misses out the top horror of IT.
