  1. Burned Ice sees the ball of radiation heading for her, and true to her training, rolls smoothly to the left, letting it fly past. Setting herself, she once again lifted her hands, and a blast of freezing air rushed forwards towards her attacker (Shiver).
  2. As Ed ran towards the manhole cover, the ground underneath his feet turned a pale blue as a sheet of slick ice formed. Ahead, more ice covered Ed's escape route, sealing it shut, and a blur of black and orange flew past Ed, coming to rest on top of the cover.

Cara, Burned Ice, stood on top of it, hand on hips, and glared at Ed.

"I'm sorry, Ed, but I can't. You know I can't. It's the law, you have to obey the law. Please... Go back to the truck... Don't do this... We can appeal the judgment! Get you out legally! This... This is just showing everyone you really ARE a villain..."

Cara's voice cracked as she spoke, the young girl clearly upset at someone she trusted being connected with killers.

A very deep and insightful comment there, FireKitty. Thank you so much for your insight.

You'll hate Seven, FFM, she has no clue about personal space, modesty, a number of other perfectly normal human reactions to other people. Not in her programming.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Doing it ICly can be dealt with ICly. By first explaining, and then emote shoving. It's the non-rpers which get my goat.

Nah, I'm not talking about people accidentally doing it. I'm talking about what we RPers see regularly. People deliberately shoving, or getting in the way of a conversation, or doing the funkymonkey in your face.

We have a name for such people. They're called Tools. Generally, there entire purpose in life seems to be to irritate RPers, just because we're doing something different. We do all we can to ignore them, but they can make it awfully hard sometimes, especially when they start spamming power effects on top of everything else.

Has anyone tried the Turing test on her yet?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I did! I ran a load of her posts through a Turing testing machine a few months ago. It's still in counseling.

You see! You're a non-rper, and even you feel it! It's an invasion of personal space!

    Personal Space

This is technically more of a roleplaying topic, BUT, as many of those guilty of it are NOT actually roleplayers, I thought I'd post it in general.

I'd like to talk about something called Personal Space. We're all familiar with it. It's that region in a persons immediate vicinity where we don't like strangers getting any closer. It can also be considered the space between 2 or more people when they're having a conversation, and it can be extended to your in-game avatar too.

The reason I'm bringing it up? Well, in everyday life, MOST people have the decency to actually respect personal space. You don't just shove people aside as you walk past, and you don't plonk yourself in between people that are having a conversation. So I can't help but wonder, why is it so damned difficult for people to do the same in game?!?

I've lost count of the number of people, RPers and not, who just walk straight in to you, shoving you off your spot (REALLY annoying when you've spent the last couple of minutes buggering about with various sit emotes and getting the position right), or even worse, just stand right between people who are having a conversation, often pulling dumb emotes or bouncing around; anything to try to distract you from whatever it was you were doing. It's bad enough when NPC's just shove you aside, it's REALLY annoying when it's other players doing it!

Why do people have to do that? Is there something about being in a computer game that makes people forget basic manners or something? Why do people have to be so damned RUDE!?

( BTW, this is a semi-serious topic. I'm only slightly annoyed by this. I'm more just curious as to why people feel the need to be all shovey when in game, when they wouldn't do it in real life. )

I believe the term 'need' in the above post should be replaced with 'want'.

I dunno, 'need' seems... too needy.

    [/ QUOTE ]

When your character tries to have a coffee, and succeeds only in either pouring it over their shoulder, or shoving the cup straight through their forehead, want becomes need.

Not to mention various joints looking almost disconnected at times, and the DREADFUL deforming when you adjust the scales...
  10. The level of detail we get is generally fine, but the current OpenGL engine is VERY inefficient compared with similar DirectX engines, and really could do with replacing. At our current level of graphics, PC's of FAR lower spec than now should be able to enjoy the game in all its glory, but can't.

One thing we DO definitely need, even if they don't update the game engine, is better avatars, with a better skeleton. The ones we currently have are, quite honestly, dreadful. They animate poorly, clip constantly, and generally just look meh. We need better detailing on faces too, rather than the pretty low res textures we currently have.
  11. Burned Ice nodded as Cindersnap's instructions came over the cybercomm, and she moved to one side; closer to the transport and out of Ryan's way. Looking in to the interior of the truck, her eyes widened with shock at seeing Ed fumbling with the keys to his handcuffs. Raising her hand, she pointed it towards him, and ice as hard as steel began to form over the cuffs; filling the lock and making it impossible to get the key in.

"Ed!" She shouted, her voice cracking. "Please! Don't do this! You're one of us, you're my friend! I don't want to hurt you!"

My only beef with PUG's is that I only ever get the invites when I'm busy RPing!

    fonetic, surely?

Nope, it's phonetic; and not everyone can read phonetic spellings...Or perhaps just don't want to contribute to the continued development of illiteracy on the internet.
  15. A very good point there, Scarlet. It would certainly make more sense to do it that way.
  16. (( Posted with Doc's permission, and Zortel's collaboration for her character's part. ))

Not far from the scene of the ambush, the young heroine known as Burned Ice was just completing her fourth arrest of the day. As she slapped a zigtag on the still form of a Freakshow Slicer, she looked up and grinned at her trainer, and friend; Cindersnap.

"That's four nil, boss. You slackin'?" she chuckled.

Ryan grinned in return, and was about to reply when his hand moved suddenly to his ear, listening to an alert coming over the comm system. Cara heard the same alert, and listened intently as details of the ambush started to come over.

Ice glanced up at a nearby street sign. "That's just three blocks from here, Ryan. We'd better go help those cops."

Ryan nodded, his expression all business. "I'll meet you there, Cara, Keep low, okay?"

Burned Ice nodded and headed in the direction of the ambush. A second later, Cindersnap streaked into motion, running at super speed towards the same destination.

Moment's later, Ice arrived at the scene, and came in to land behind the police cruiser and the two officers, seconds after Cindersnap's own arrival. Taking in the scene, she spotted a woman threatening the driver of the prison transport.

Can I ask what qualifies you to give such information?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    I'll offer mine.

    26 years of using computers.
20 years of using them in a professional capacity, both software and hardware.
A qualified microelectronics engineer and system's archictect.
    A qualified software architect.
Someone who's owned more brands of motherboards than can remember, and usually comes back to either ASUS, or Gigabyte if I'm a bit strapped for cash.

Someone who's actually USED Vista professionally, as opposed to someone listening to all the carp on the internet about it from people who heard something from a guy who heard it from a guy who saw it on a blog nobody's ever heard of.
  19. The difference really will be very minor. Certainly not enough to justify the enormous price differences between the two. 10,000RPM drives are really better suited to people doing a LOT of video work. Your average home or business user has no need for such things, and that's evidenced by the ridiculous prices of such drives.

Personally, I wouldn't even bother with RAID 0. Can't think of ANY average home user that would need such a configuration really...

You are missing my point, the point is I was presented with an incomplete or misledaing message regarding the incident. Is opening some God Mod chat window and actually giving me a genuine message regarding the situation in game too much to ask personally I think not but obviously some of your opinions differ to mine on this.
    *shrugs*

    [/ QUOTE ]

And as I have already said.. ANY message that's not the preset "shutting down" one would have to be signed off by some manager, and THEN translated into French and German, and THEN checked before FINALLY getting posted up. That takes more than 5 minutes to do.

If I was in the pub and the landlord shouted last orders at 3 in the afternoon and when you tried to enquire further all he did was point to a sign that said 'It's illegal for us to sell you alchohol after lisencing hours' and just expecected you to leave I would consider it rude in the same way.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Which is EXACTLY what was done. The landlord called last orders (5 minute warning), and the sign went up (announcement thread on the forums).

    [ QUOTE ]

Perhaps I am just complaining for complaining sake but I think understandably being interupted when you are doing something you enjoy is frustrating, in this case I feel NC could have done more to acknowledge this and comminicate more clearly in the first place about the issue rather than expecting people to go search the forums, to me there customer relations was somewhat lacking in this case..
Just my 0.02 inf worth anyway

    [/ QUOTE ]

They did everything they could, asking for more than that IS being totally unreasonable.

And yes, IMO, you ARE just complaining for the sake of complaining.

I bet you'd have been ROYALLY steamed if you were one of the accounts affected by the bug...
