But that would mean joining Facebook, and I won't do that even if you threaten to shoot a helpless kitten.

For once, lol, I agree with FFM... NO! BLOODY! WAY!

    [/ QUOTE ]

End of the world... Right there.

    End. Of. The. World.

What a strange thing for someone who has ben playing since 05 and has posted on these forums some 14,000 times to say.

Ide class your CoH habits as a hobby rather than a game. Wouldnt you?
And its one youre pretty immersed in.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually, I roleplay in CoH far more than I actually PLAY it; and I can and HAVE transferred THAT over to IRC successfully. So whilst it IS a hobby, if it ever went away, I'll still HAVE my hobby.

Again, you are SERIOUSLY overstating the damage that DCUO and CO will do. You're going about them being here now, but they're NOT. Even if they finally release, that's NOT guarantee they'll survive. The first few months of an MMO are crucial to their survival, and there have been plenty who didn't make it out of them.

Plus, we're dealing with Sony Online, a company that managed to totally WRECK the biggest game license imaginable in Star Wars Galaxies, and Cryptic. A company which, whilst DID develop CoH, also has Jack Emmert.

On the other hand, we're also dealing with NCSoft, a very large company which specialises in the MMO market, and have invested a LOT of money in this IP.

CoH isn't going anywhere for a LONG time.
  3. Sorry GR. Though I do think it was a valid question.
  4. [ QUOTE ]
This is a totally different ballgame. And im not saying that DC will kill this game. I'm saying that if CoH doesnt get its act together (GR seems confident it will) THEN DC WILL kill this game.

    [/ QUOTE ]

How is it even remotely different to the likes of WoW and LOTRO taking on FFXI? It's exactly the same, and even with the extreme blip that WoW is, FFXI is still one of the most popular fantasy MMO's on the market. Precisely the same will happen with DCO and CO. In fact, I think those two are more likely to have a higher population of console gamers than PC gamers.

    [ QUOTE ]

I'm getting nervous because, at this moment DC and CO are firing warning shots across the bows and we dont seem to be reacting. And we're making mistakes. (the trial thread.)

    [/ QUOTE ]

A silly attitude IMO. Even if DCO or CO completely swamp the market, CoH won't be going anywhere for a minimum of 18 months. And even if it DOES die, well... All games die eventually. Go play something else and quit getting so het up over a GAME!

  5. An offline reward system HAS been briefly mentioned for CoH, so this could be what it was alluding too.
  6. He didn't MAKE any negative comments! He told Lionsbane off for a post he made, end of!

How about if they lock the account to Friends only, and then release I13 details?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'll get one of you lot to join and find out for me.
  8. [ QUOTE ]
So now looking at this thread most of the people that have posted on it that were in general agreement that the trial account restrictions are not the best way forward for the game or the community are now all argueing amongst themselves about how the points are being worded. Surely the most relevent point at the moment is that the points are being worded and we should be showing a united stand in getting things changed rather than a bickering rabble that goes off the subject into the obscure loses the whole thread and in the end achieves nothing more than people wasting there time.

Aren't you? You think we were down to 15 devs because they were doin it right?

    [ QUOTE ]
They were down to 15 devs because Cryptic decided to focus on other projects.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Right. Cause thats what you do when you have a winning project isn't it?

    [/ QUOTE ]

No, it's what you do when you have a mature project then doesn't need so much hand holding anymore. Programmers are a valuable resource, and new projects that would earn them more money were waiting. Retasking programmers is standard procedure for ALL software once it's mature.

    [ QUOTE ]

A question, FFM, you think this game would be significantly better off, as we play it on this very day, if they hadnt dropped the staff from (i think) 70ish to 15? And the subs were at, say 200,000 mark?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Difficult to say. In the long run I would say no, I don't think it WOULD have been better off if they hadn't dropped the staff levels. Not because of the skill of the programmers, but because of who was making the decisions.
  10. But that would mean joining Facebook, and I won't do that even if you threaten to shoot a helpless kitten.
  11. [ QUOTE ]
They should be able to reply to tells at the absolute minimum. This is the work of people below required standard. (hope that was more polite.)

    [/ QUOTE ]

Softening the words used doesn't make it any less of an insult.

Better, and likely FAR more accurate, to say that this was the work of a programmer who was merely following his instructions to implement a feature decided on by his manager or higher. For all you know, the developer in question might have disagreed with it. Hell, my devs disagree with my design choices from time to time. They STILL implement them though, because I'm their manager and get to tell them what to write.

It's NOT a case of sloppy programming in the slightest; and portraying it as such, no matter HOW flowery the words chosen, is STILL an insult to the person who did it. It's a design choice that you disagree with, pure and simple.
  12. All MMO's with trials have restrictions on them, Lions. It's called giving the player a taster of what's in the game.

NC's only mistake (IMO) was in restricting the chat, teaming and SG capabilities a little over zealously. Having limits on level and inf storage are very sensible, and something all MMO's with trial, that I know about, implement. If the taster is enough to get you to pay, ALL of those limits are lifted. It's just unfortunate that your son's account was hit with a bug that left the limits in place. THAT is something that definitely needs to be addressed.
  13. So... Did anything ever come of this competition in the end?
  14. [ QUOTE ]

*giggles* You have no idea .

The Shadowe is wise ... and apparently has been lurking when I go play pool after work.

Hey now, stop that at once! You're turning in to as big a tease as Kerensky!

It's mean to taunt us so!!

    1. It's the same model it always is. The costume and contact lenses were made especially for her. They won't FIT anyone else (especially the contact lenses!)

    2. Very nice of you, to insult her looks that way. I'm sure you're no oil painting either. FYI, the model who plays GW is a really nice lass, and doesn't deserve such mean comments (not that she would even if she was satans sister).
  16. I do think they went too far with all the restrictions.

All they should really have done (IMO), is apply the level limit (14 IS quite reasonable really), and locked them out of email and broadcast. The rest should have been kept in the sidelines waiting to be added in case it was needed.
  17. [ QUOTE ]
I personally used to enjoy tp'ing other players to mobs and holding them there while the mobs kill them.

However, I don't do it that much these days - unless I'm bored. I considered this bad form but I just can't help myself. I am a bad man!

    [/ QUOTE ]

I thought deliberately TPing people in to mobs to cause them debt was officially considered griefing?
  18. I think sending out batches of trial discs to retailers would help...
  19. I believe it was Rockjaw who said these very important words.

"It's player versus player, not a player hug player."

Remember that folks. You go in there, you're gonna get attacked. Like I said before, the ONLY thing that annoys me about PvP is the often moronic and usually childish smacktalk. Hence, I don't go into PvP zones, even though I've been known to have fun with it.

The only time I've been able to win is when I've gone after the same target more than once (which FG will confirm I do quite a lot).

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, but what's you chasing FG down the street 3 times a day with a poker got to do with CoH?

    (( Sorry, I just couldn't resist! ))
  21. They have them over on guru3d.com. Look in their downloads section.
  22. Try the 177.66 beta drivers. They still enable the PhysX features, but also work properly in CoH.
  23. This is long known. Windowsblinds just doesn't like CoH, so you will have to add it to the exclusions list, or stop using it. Blame Stardock for <bleeping> with internal windows messages to do their trickery.
  24. At least it's given a good view on how people feel about a moral compass feature!

    Mission Creator

I'm pretty sure it's not going to work like that. The post only mentions using your characters as a contact, so that would be as a mission giver.

Besides, I very much doubt they have an AI flexible enough to handle highly customised player characters.
