One of the great things about this country is the freedom of speech.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Always makes me laugh when people play the free speech card...

Here's some news for you. We're on a private message board; there's NO free speech at all here.

Plus, there's also no law on the UK statute books guaranteeing free speech either. You can easily and legally be busted for flapping your gums if someone in authority doesn't like it.

    Free speech... Pffft!

Just lose the pounds, the stones, the ounces etc...
Adopt the kilometer, the kilo and the euro.

I suppose next you'll be wanted us to drive on the wrong side of the road?

I think the French have enough of English people doing that around Calais as it is!

    XP boxes....

And then you have a level 20 character with no contacts and stuck with radio/newspaper missions.

    Sorry, but /not signed.

In an off topic point, how come Britain seemed to get duffed over in the CoX timeline? =P

Same reason America always saves the world from alien invaders in the movies.

As a plan B, NCSoft Europe should get more people to play the game... by force if needed

The ability to toggle aura's on and off, without having to waste a costume slot!

If those servers are on UK soil in the US they are only viable to UK law. It is a unique case I know but still it is an example of how some people make statements that are not quite true.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Chances of a server host being on embassy soil, very very slim.

    [ QUOTE ]

I was answering a sweeping statement designed to quash my suggestion rather than come up with ways it could work, which I am sure there could be. Other MMOs only have one global network. Why cant ours?

    [/ QUOTE ]

The decision was taken before EU launch to split off an EU branch of NC Soft to manage it. This was a business decision they made for a myriad of reasons, only SOME of which were the complexities in data protection laws across borders. Now that they have NCSoft EU in place, the would lose MILLIONS if they reverted everything back to the US branch; and a lot of people would lose their jobs too.

It's NOT going to happen, no matter how much people ask for it. It would be cheaper to just close the EU servers and transfer us to the US ones, just like they did with the Korean servers; and retask the EU community and GM staff to other games.

As for other MMO's doing it, even WoW has EU servers. I'm fairly sure an EU account can't connect to the US ones...
  9. I've seen that happen before. Are you using an Nvidia video card? If so, what version of the drivers are you using?

There is a compatibility issue with the 177 WHQL drivers which is fixed in the latest 177 Beta drivers (I'm using 177.92, and it's fine there). It causes this strange graphics offset to happen.
  10. It's pointless wishing for things like merging the server sets. It's NOT going to happen, and has been explained why many many times. If you want to play on the US servers, you can do the same anyone else can. Buy a copy of the US game, and start from scratch. Not the ideal answer, but the ONLY answer.
  11. Another year gone eh mate?

Well, never mind. Just remember, call the fire brigade BEFORE lighting the candles on that cake!

    Happy birthday!
  12. It works perfectly in Vista 64 actually, it's what I run.

The screen offset sounds like the problem with some beta version of the Nvidia 177.79 drivers (which I believe was repeated in the WHQL ones). If you install the latest beta ones (I'm running 177.92), this problem is fixed.

Of course, that's if you're using an Nvidia card. If you're using an ATI one, do NOT use the 8.8 Catalyst drivers; they're incompatible.
  13. Have you tried selecting Safe Mode in the launcher? This will drop the video options to minimum and allow you to track which setting is causing the problem (water detail settings is a likely culprit).
  14. 51c at idle is pretty warm, you might want to check the airflow to your PC and inside; make sure the cables aren't getting in the way.

I've used my ASUS cd too, it has an utility called PC Probe II, which is giving me warnings about CPU temperature all the time when I try to use the game, even when I'm just standing, not moving nor fighting, I'd like to know what's a safe threshold for it, it's set at 65ยบ C atm, so: is it right as a threshold, or shall I set it higher or lower? and... could I have an overheating problem? if so, what should I do to solve it?

    Thx in advance

    Defcon

    [/ QUOTE ]

What's your CPU? There are plenty of places online where you can look up the safe operating temperatures for it. If you're at 65c though, you should get a better cooler.

    Lag etc

There are several types of lag and it's important to identify what type you're experiencing.

How long have you been away? There have been a few changes to how graphics settings are stored, so that could be causing you problems.

In the chat window, type /netgraph 1 (0 to disable), to see your network traffic. If it's a communications problem, it will show here.

Your comment about mobs not falling to the ground would tend to indicate some data packets are not being received; possibly due to network lag issues. If this is the cause, you should /petition the problem in game and the GMs will talk you through some steps to track it down.

Alowing players to hack thier missions would give them more freedom.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Easy enough to protect against. Just encode the files and use a seperate MD5 hash key on them, or use a digital signature.

    Preventing savegame hacking isn't difficult...

You massively underestimate the abilities of most hackers, FFM.

Nah I don't. I just know it's not exactly difficult to prevent the buggers.

How can I change that RAM voltage? That's something I have never tried before.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It's in your BIOS settings. Not every motherboard will let you, and you must be VERY careful with what you change. Look up your RAM online and do not exceed recommended settings.

The only reason they advise adjusting voltages is that, these days, most automatic settings will run your RAM at lower than recommended voltages. This is fine for most things, but some hardware will insist that other hardware is running properly.
  24. Hmm... This is a bit limiting...

An Arc is anywhere from one to five missions.

point about 'wasting time writing missions', base editing is 'wasting time' making the base pretty....

    [/ QUOTE ]

They're far less of a waste of time that something like PvP is too! With base editing or mission writing, you have something tangible that you get to share with other people. With PvP you get to wave your tackle as some newbie who will never return, and watch your hard earned PvP rep vanish into nothingness if you don't keep on wasting your time. No tangible reward at the end of it, so a total waste of time.
