/me bows
Of course, I can't accept ALL the blame... -
I actually consider the slots thing a blatant rip off. You're meant to keep what you paid for, right? Well, the original CoH came with 10 slots, so why don't you keep those 10, huh?
Then CoV came with 2, GR with another 2, that means if you bought all three of those there should be 14 slots as a basic minimum when you drop to Premium.
So basically, they lied when they said you keep what you paid for. -

Wrong, it's a known issue that was reported in test plenty times. Try reading the thread sometime, you'd know that had already been mention, then.

Y'know... They could save these threads going nuclear if they just told us WHAT the downtime was for beforehand. Y'know, something like "Hey guys, tomorrow we're going to take the servers down for 6 hours, but during that time we're hoping to release issue 21.5 for you!"

Quote:The root cause almost certainly lies in the mod they use for the secure login that checks against our game accounts for permissions.
Anyway, the problem isn't cookie expiration. The problem is that periodically the board software seems to think something has gone totally haywire with your user session, and actually sends DELETES to ALL your cookie information. Including the cookie data that houses your name and password, which is where its stored if you say "Remember Me." The boards should *never* delete that information unless you log out. So the boards must be thinking periodically that you either logged out, or it should log you out for some reason.
Although vBulletin had an issue related to this in the past, it never had it to the degree we do, and every version of the bug had a trivial fix associated with it. I'm guessing someone performed a custom maneuver I'd get modded for describing somewhere in the authentication or state tracking code, and mucked it up. For some value of M. -
Quote:Again, HOW exactly does this cheapen the game for you in any way, shape or form beyond grinding your gears? Make them earnable AND puchasable, that way everyone wins.Way to perpetuate the idea that things other players have earned should be purchasable. Following this idea, what is the point in playing the game at all? I've said this before, and I'll say it again: I have no gripes whatsoever with the game having things like new costumes, powersets (granted, they should remain balanced) or things like the rocket board and whatnot for sale for cash, but when it comes to things that actually alter character performance it is crossing the line.
If you're going to sell the most sought after enhancements for cash, why not sell incarnate powers or salvage too? Why not sell influence? Why not just sell 30 day access to the "I Win" button? Wanna buy every badge in the game? Sure, just send 40 bucks over! No one will ever have to actually play the game again! -
-
Quote:So? If it grinds your gears that much, do the same as they are and buy the things. No one is stopping you. It's their being able to buy enhancements that are significantly better than the ones I spent all that time on that ticks me off. I don't have the kind of money it would take to go around slinging these attuned IOs into my characters—but there's no way I can substitute time for money to earn them the way I have the level-locked versions available from the game because they're only available for real money.
At the end of the day, the only "unfair" thing in this game is that people with plenty of time available are able to gain things that people who don't, can't. All this really does is slightly redresses that a little so that those without the time have a means of progressing.
And so what if the buyable IO's are slightly better than earnable ones. It's just an incentive to get you to part with your cash. -
Quote:Their being able to buy the badges that you've spent ages earning doesn't actually affect your game at ALL, so why should it annoy you?

It doesn't... -
Quote:How does someone else being willing to pay real money to get these things cheapen your effort in any way, shape or form? Some people (like me), just don't have the available RL time to spend gaining these things, and some (like me) have unusually BAD luck with the RNG (I've gotten TWO purples, crap ones, since they came out). Their being able to buy the enhancements that you've spent ages earning doesn't actually affect your game at ALL, so why should it annoy you?To see someone able to shell out a few bucks and get something better than what my time and effort bought me, and avoid having to deal with the level range tradeoff, leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I'm not going to threaten to quit or anything over it, but it's annoying.
Did you get equally annoyed when they dropped the EAT unlock requirement to level 20 instead of 50? -
We don't blame you, Zwil. You're an upright kinda guy and all that, but this problem has been ongoing for YEARS with nothing being done about it, so please excuse some of us if we have little faith in it ever being fixed...
-
Speaking as someone who just doesn't have the time to play constantly anymore, and as someone who has only ever had TWO (worthless) purples drop EVER since they came out, I can quite happily say that I'm fine with the option of being able to buy them should I want. I'm never ever gonna get them otherwise...
-
This has been going on for several YEARS with no sign that the devs even give a damn, let alone are trying to fix it. They just ignore threads on it, which is pretty typical really.

Quote:Not to mention an invisibility balaclava (the result of her experiments in invisible underwear) that she wore under the pumpkin head, so when she took that off, she looked headless!Ellie, of course, pranked him with - amongst other things - an animatronic pumpkin head and an impression of a Tiger shark in the Jelly pool.

Awww, jeez...
I didn't know him well, but we used to exchange PM's from time to time. I remember him as a thoughtful, intelligent man with a great sense of humour and, of course, a Dune fan like me!
Rest in peace, Muad'dib. My thoughts are with you and your loved ones. -
Yeah, I think I totally missed something there, too...
-
Yay, a new thread and a brilliant intro to it too, thanks Z!
As has been said, Ellie was called away right at the start of last night so I missed what happened, but it wasn't just a case of me wanting to be elsewhere OOCly. I actually received an IC /tell in the form of a text message and she had to go meet someone in PD that took up the rest of my evening.
Tonight, I hope to be there, but need to chat to the two players involved in last night's IC meeting first! Thanks to now having to get up at 5:30 EVERY day, I had to bail before it got too late, so things were kinda left hanging... -
Quote:Contrary to what Paragon Studios have actually said, I don't actually think they care one bit about us veteran players. Their attention is firmly set on the income they can get from new players and micro-transactions, with just lip service paid to us.My last veteran dates where I got what was expected were 6 weeks ago - this is a problem that needs looking into more than billing is apparently willing to.
If they DID care, they'd make stuff like this a priority... -
