Give it a rest *****
[/ QUOTE ]
Dude, please remove my real name from your post. -
[ QUOTE ]
There is a big difference between giving a mission the thumbs down and reporting it for inapropiate content.
However, to give a mission the thumbs down, I believe you have to actually play it. It would be a bit Mary Whitehouse to play "Map 4 teh lolz! Kil stuff" just so you can give it the thumbs down.
[/ QUOTE ]
If it keeps utterly dull missions off the server and encourages people to write interesting stories etc, I don't see how it can be a bad thing.
EDIT: On the other hand, if exactly the same farming mission is presented as perhaps something like this:
Welcome to the Freakulator!
Congratulations on choosing the Freakulator! Paragon's premier training simulation for combatting the menace known as the Freakshow! Can you beat the clock and stop the rampaging anarchists before they blow up the Paragon Museum? Give it a try! Show your mettle!
Would get a big thumbs up! -
Depends entirely on what their criteria will be. No doubt, they will issue a guideline for reporting inappropriate content and such. I'll just report stuff within the guidelines, and it'll be based on the WHOLE mission, not just what's on the map; story will count too.
Stuff like:
Map 4 teh lolz! Kil stuff!
Isn't going to get a thumbs up! -
I will rate and report missions as *I* see fit, not as you or anyone else sees fit, thank you.
-
Indeed! As I told you on MSN (and suggested the comic strip idea!). It's very good work and am looking forward to seeing more!
-
[ QUOTE ]
I could still get round it though.
Allied roman surgeons ftw.
[/ QUOTE ]
But having a healbot with you isn't going to give you extra XP, is it? Sure, it'll make the missions a tad easier... But then, that's the sort of thing the rating system is for.. Mission too easy? Thumbs down. Mission obviously set up for farming? Report it. -

Ah...Fusionette...-cracks knuckles-
Anyhow...I just cant wait to see what this is like. I will admit that the 'killstealing' allies is a bit daft...half exp or something? -shrug-
Anyhow, more news is good news =P
[/ QUOTE ]
no, not having allied mobs take away exp is daft...
otherwise there'd be missions where you first free Statesman, sister psyche, Backalley brawler, from their captors and then just drag them through any mobs thats left on the map while you just lean back and rest.
[/ QUOTE ]
Indeed. That mechanic stops people making huge maps full of Freakshow etc, and letting the ally chars do all the work. -

"Who is the more foolish? the fool, or the fool that follows him?"
[/ QUOTE ]
Ummm, ME! I am foolish!! You can't prove otherwise
.
[/ QUOTE ]
We don't need to, we KNOW you're foolish!
After all, you spend all day a few inches from random people's mouths, and their halitosis!
-
[ QUOTE ]
At least we are getting proper xp, might be able to make farms yet
[/ QUOTE ]
In a limited sense.. You won't be able to place the mobs.. Just choose the mob type and create critters. It'll be no more farm worthy than a radio/newspaper mission I guess. Well, less so actually, as you won't get badges or mission reward... -

Enough positive feedback gets you story promoted to Hall of Fame which frees up that slot for you to add another story. Select stories will be flagged as Dev Choice, but nothing will become cannon at this time
[/ QUOTE ]
What exactly do they mean by this?
Does this mean we're bound by a maxmium number of arcs that we can have up at a time?
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes. That's already announced info from the original Architect issue announcements. -
It's always puzzled me why it's not been done a long time ago...
/Signe -
It's for roleplayers and their characters.
-
The devs have stated many times that they have no intention of ever raising the level cap. Doing so is a false economy as they would have to spent months and months crafting new content, new powers, new animations, a new GUI for the slots etc; all for something that people would play through in a week or two and then be screaming for more.
The effort involved just isn't worth it.
Instead, they gave us inventions. Through these we can continue to progress our characters and improve their abilities beyond basic level 50 stats. There is plenty of content to play through in the game, and in any case, CoX is not like WoW, where the game STARTS at the level cap for most people. CoH is all about the journey, and rolling alts to experience as much of it as possible. -
No. It's not. Still in closed beta phase with at least a few more weeks to go.
When it goes to open beta, there will be an announcement in the Test Forum for it. -
[ QUOTE ]
I actually trust FFM, and Ghosty, and Shadowe to keep the more uber aspects of their characters out of the way of plots they should avoid (much as I took to doing with Crow when he got too powerful), but if they did choose to intervene in some way that I felt was inappropriate, I'd be forced into ignoring them or absenting myself from that plot.
[/ QUOTE ]
Which is exactly why I don't involve Ellie in plots that I don't have some kind of GM control over. In fact, The shadow plot is just about the ONLY plot Ellie's been properly involved in for a good 18 months or so... What's going on with her powers isn't plot, it's character development.
Most of Ellie's "uberness" usually comes out in harmless banter; like her regular jokey threats to stuff Spearmint into a trashcan for being cheeky.

Works for me, I think LiquidX has the right idea. That'd fix everything.

Yeah, I like the idea.. I could go out hunting elves! My favourite pastime!

I simply object to what sounded like an aimed insult. Kay?

Oh, you mean like your cartel remark? -
Don't forget, come i13, redside are getting healers.

The thing is you DO have a chance with the current mechanics, you just need to put in the time and effort to learn the system and to earn your PvP build, we were all PvE'rs are selves before we all had to go through this exact procces, so hopefully you can understand some of the frustration displayed by the PvP community because unlike you (No disrespect here FFM) we have all put lots of time and effort into the PvP area of the game, learning how it works with current system and earning our PvP builds.
I can expect if the PvE system was changed in such a drastic way like this the boards would be flooded with simular posts about how upsetting it is (not saying it would neccesarily be you)
[/ QUOTE ]
Oh I understand the frustration some of you guys are feeling. I'm just getting a bit peeved by all the toys hitting the floor at warp factor 12, when none of you have TRIED the changes! If it's [censored] AFTER you've tried them, feel free to foam at the mouth all you like!
I'll even be there, with a mop and bucket.
[ QUOTE ]
I cant help but feel (and i may be way off here) that they are essentially dumbing down the system to make it easier, because for me the speed in which you can move around the environment is what made it challenging to get that kill, it meant you could evade with a bit of preperation and the fast paced action is what made skill come into because your reaction time > the other players (just my opinion of course)
[/ QUOTE ]
But given the low numbers of people who do actually PvP, maybe it NEEDS to be dumbed down, so that it appeals to the less twitchy players?
[ QUOTE ]
Now i will most definately try this new system out, but like alot of other current PvP'ers removing the ability to move around the maps like you do now i think will essentially be the end of 'hardcore' CoX PvP, they will eventually more than likely attract more randoms in zone PvP, who decide CoX PvP is now not so different from the mundane experience that is CoX PvE, but i can honestly say i dont see this bringing more players to a 4 year old MMO, all it will do is remove the current die hard PvP players who hold 2 accounts+ and have been playing for the 4 years (myself included)
[/ QUOTE ]
It's an unfortunate fact that player numbers are NOT increasing. Generally, they're tending to remain fairly static, with some hills and valleys. Consequently, new people aren't going in to the PvP zones so much. So what do they do to get those areas more active? Change them to increase their appeal for the vastly more populated PvE part of the game, that's how. Sure, it's unfortunately for the hardcore PvPers, and some may even leave in a huff; but the devs MUST put the overall playerbase first.
For me, as I've said many times... I don't PvP because I'm rubbish at it (I'm not), or because of the poor balance (PB's are a pain to kill), or even because of the gank squads squishing people before they've even gotten out of sight of their base. No, I don't PvP because of the tiny minority of hardcore PvPers who, generally, made the whole experience just... unpleasant. It's the trash talking, the bragging, the, to be blunt, arrogant asshattery, that puts me off. If this change annoys those minority idiots enough that they leave, GOOD!.
Of course, I'm not holding much hope for that. These people turn up everywhere where there's PvP. Still, at least these changes will encourage me to try some more arena matches, even if I stay out of the zonal stuff. -

Way to go on prejudging the changes before you've even tried them. You're showing EXACTLY the same attitude many people showed about ED, and EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM were WRONG about it. ED was GOOD for the game, and IMO, so will this be.
So go ahead, threaten to leave. But don't think for a second that anyone will take your threats to do it seriously, just like the 99.9% of people who threatened to leave over ED, didn't.
And if you DO leave? Well, who's going to actually care, or even notice? Just one less self righteous elitist demanding the game be played to THEIR specifications, and bugger anyone else. Well, I'm sorry bud, but the current PvP population are seriously outnumbered by the PvEers who wouldn't mind giving it a go, if they could actually get IN to the zones without getting gangbanged by a bunch of elitists with tricked out builds. Now we're going to actually have a fighting chance. -
Sorry, but it IS a legal issue as well. Rednames have explained it several times in the past, and the reason given was exactly the reason I've repeated here.
Sure, there's an element of profit too it, as well as an element of wanting to keep 2 communities; but the major facts now that they've DONE it this way, is a legal one. -

What bout the feeling of RUN + 2SECS STOPED + RUN AGAIN + STATUE 4 SECS + RUN?? That sounds like a bit discontinous fun.
[/ QUOTE ]
You're NOT stopped, you're merely slowed. Only an immob or hold will actually stop you!
And in that situation, I would: Run, 2secs slowed, turn, smack attacker in gob, fight it out until one of you is dead, rez on the spot and splatter the SoB.
-
[ QUOTE ]
FFM you really dont understand how fast paced PvP works do you? If you did, you would realise that supression, even for a second can mean death. Now I understand they are making everyone have better resistance in PvP and lowering damage so that may not be so true, but the issue is that being slowed to a snails pace, doesnt really seem fitting for a game like this. And my personal issue is not with the supression, but the amount of it! Coupled with all the other nurfs, it just seems to me that balance will shift from ranged attacks to melee!
[/ QUOTE ]
Oh I do understand. Often things happen so fast that there just isn't TIME for much in the way of tactics. That's why I think these changes will be GOOD for PvP in the long run.
Sure, on paper they might not look so hot. But I say to you all, withhold judgment until you've actually TRIED the changes. And I'll be in there, trying them out too.
You see, though I'm not a PvPer, these changes DO intrigue me enough to see whether I might actually start to enjoy it now. Of course, that still depends on the number of childish morons trash talking in the zone and generally making the whole experience unpleasant for casuals. -
[ QUOTE ]
Thnx for the summary maelwys.
Personally I dont mind some of the other changes. The movement suppr sucks. Zonal pvp is going to be a mess. SS/SJ being a waste of slots and TP being king. Gank squads will rule as it will be impossible to escape. Stalkers will be even more unbeatable.
Even more base camping for heroes.
I truly hope it wont be half as bad as i am thinking but i just cant see it.
And the fact pvp zones arent getting any attention till post i13 doesnt help.
[/ QUOTE ]
But all of that will only happen if you PvPers DECIDE to do that. And that'll be your OWN fault.
Movement suppression does NOT mean you'll be immobilized. It means you'll be slowed to sprint speed for a few seconds IF the attack hits, and your attacker will ALSO be suppressed. How is that going to make it impossible to escape?
Sure, TP is probably going to be more prevalent, and it's going to make triform PB's a total cow to lock down,
but it doesn't render the other movement powers useless.

It's the rubbish links to the German datacentre. WoW is hosted elsewhere.
[/ QUOTE ]
oh.. I was under the impression they where in the same server parc. Where are they hosted?
[/ QUOTE ]
They're all over the place.
[/ QUOTE ]
31 are in Franfurt... isn't that the COX serverparc?
[/ QUOTE ]
The EU CoH servers ARE in Frankfurt, yes. But that doesn't mean they're in the same datacentre as WoW. In fact, I don't think they are as I know the same datacentre services some other NCSoft games as well.
