    -Knockback IO!

    Assuming it's actually viable, tech-wise.
Using the current powers system, it's not viable. The devs can't simply make a "Reduce KB" enhancement. For an example of why, simply look to any of the buff/debuff pairs, or look at Hamidon/Hydra/Titan enhancements. "Defense Buff" enhancements and "Defense Debuff" enhancements are actually the exact same thing; they just have different strengths and are written to be allowable in different powers. Both the buff and debuff enhancement add a percentage enhancement to the power's defense -- if the power has +Def, that enhancement will add to the defense buff, while a power with -Def will get an increased debuff. This is the source of the enhancement exploit with HOs that has been standing in the game ever since Hamidon showed up (the same exploit exists with Titan and Hydra enhancements, but few people use them since they stop at 40 and the level cap moved up to 50).

A "Reduce KB" enhancement would only work in a power which was designed specifically to accept it; and such a power wouldn't be able to work with our current increase KB enhancements. The effects of the power would have to be something along the lines of this (based on Power Push):
    • 0.13 * [Ranged_Damage] Smashing damage
    • 0.13 * [Ranged_Damage] Energy damage
    • 12.00 * [Ranged_Knockback] Knockback [Ignores Enhancements & Buffs]
    • -4.00 * [Ranged_Knockback] Knockback
Without any KB enhancement, this would be identical to Power Push (scale 8 KB). Add a Schedule D knockback enhancement (it doesn't matter whether you're calling it "Increase Knockback" or "Decrease Knockback"), and the +12 KB won't be affected (it's set to ignore enhancements) while the -4 KB will be buffed to -6.4, bringing the total KB down from scale 8 to scale 5.6. In such a fashion, you could bring the KB magnitude down below 0.75 and turn it into KD.

The other option would be to have a power which applies KB to the target and applies enhanceable KB Resistance to the target, though that would reduce everyone's KB magnitude, not just yours. Both options could reduce the KB magnitude to 0 (the former if enhanced too much, the latter if stacked), which would result in neither KB nor KD. The former option, if enhanced too much, could result in handing out KB protection rather than KD.

Vanguard Sword is only an issue for melee characters. They're almost trivial to fight when using a ranged character. It was extremely amusing to watch the threads on the forums just after the RWZ came out:

"Vanguard Sword are too hard to fight!!! D:"
"What are you talking about? I kill them with my eyes closed."
"What are you playing? My Inv/SS Tanker is getting massacred over here!"
"Eh? I'm just using an Emp/Elec Defender."

The tip missions are named based on the concept of the tipster, an information source. Whether it be for a gambling bet, a newspaper article or a lead on a criminal investigation, tips are common parlance in English. The "tip" name has nothing to do with the fact that it can "tip"-over your alignment -- especially considering a Hero can run Hero tip missions and then run a Hero morality mission, which has absolutely nothing to do with alignment change at all.

I always see Zilch at Scarborough Fair in Waxahachie TX. I think he may have a set order he does his stories in, because most often I'm at the fair with my mother (who likes to organize a schedule to see as many shows as possible) and I end up seeing Zilch at 4pm and he does Julio and Romiet. But the few times I've gone to a different show time, it's been a different story.

I love his ad-hoc comedy with the audience, too. I remember one year he started talking about the word "butterfly" in various languages. Such a beautiful word for such a beautiful creature. "Butterfly", "papillon", "mariposa", "paruparo", "farfalla", "borboleta"... in German it's "schmetterling". Like the man who invented the word was driving down the autobahn and had a butterfly hit his windshield and he started cursing as he tried to get it off. (The German exchange student we were with at the time told us that 'schmetter' translates to something along the lines of 'splat'. But looking it up, it seems that it actually derives from the Czech word for cream.)
  10. Mastermind with mostly ranged pets (Thugs, Mercenaries, Robotics, Demon Summoning), and an AoE heal in the secondary (Thermal Radiation, Pain Domination, Dark Miasma). Unless you're on a higher difficulty, all you have to do is keep your pets in follow/defensive and walk into the spawn of enemies, using your AoE heal as needed. For primaries with healer pets that aren't suicidal (I'm looking at you, Medic), you probably don't even have to use the heal from your secondary, you could just read a book instead.

Define "much". If you're debuffed to 5% tohit, then you final hit chance is (Attack's base accuracy) * (1.0 + (Accuracy buffs)) * 0.05. The base accuracy for an attack generally ranges between 0.8 and 1.2, depending on the power. Triple-slotting lv50 accuracy IOs will give you an accuracy buff of 0.9908.

Since Archery was mentioned earlier, let's use the standard Archery base accuracy of 1.115 for the set. At 5% tohit with no Acc slotted, net hit chance is 5.575%. With 3 lv50 IOs, net chance is 11.09871%. It's nearly double the chance to hit (in fact, it's a 99.08% increase, exactly equal to the enhancements slotted), but the absolute difference is extremely small.

With constant ambushes of multiple mob groups plus bosses and EB's mixed in, someone either needs to be capable of taking the alpha, or taking the aggro. When you have 1 AV that defenders can all throw debuffs on right from the get go you may be able to exist without a tank/brute (and even then, a +4 Romulus would still likely hurt a bit too much with all the other things considered).

But when you have incoming ambushes of groups with +4 EBs and bosses flying at you, unless you have 2-3 doms or controllers on your team with hard control to keep the incoming waves manageable, youre going to have deaths- and the point is to not have any deaths to do it optimally and meet the time deadline! Even debuffs like /Rad have a lag time before they are anchored in and effecting the incoming groups. Could your defenders rotate their high teir holds? Yes, I suppose, but I still think you have several deaths- even with good, competent players.
That's why you simply use a team of Blasters with crashless nukes, regeneration rivaling Regen, and defense beating Super Reflexes. Who can all heal each other quickly if anything happens to go wrong (or rez, in the unlikely event of someone dying). In case you're confused, I'm talking about 8 Empathy Defenders working in concert. (Green Machine -> Victory)

You don't need an aggro magnet on an all-squishy team. In fact, it's better if you don't. Without a single target, the enemies will spread the damage out among the entire team, reducing the possibility of fatal shots.

Even without a min/maxed team composition, that's at the other end of the spectrum from truth.

The reliability factor- as Dechs pointed out- is the key there. You dont have time for deaths, and a tank or melee toon that can hold aggro and take ALL alphas guarantees a decently coordinated team no deaths.
An aggro magnet (even a Tanker) is more likely to die against a +4 ambush/AV than if the enemies are attacking everyone equally. Like the Mastermind inherent power, spread the damage out and it's easier to mitigate.

On the other hand, stacked buff/debuffs being better than stacked damageDamageDAMAGE! was intentional. The only problem was the degree to which the stacking breaks things.

Yeah. Gloom, Tenebrous Tentacles, and Night Fall are the "must-take" powers in Dark Blast.

Dark Pit and Torrent can be useful in their own way, as others have mentioned (my Rad/Dark doesn't have Dark Pit, for example, because I don't have another AoE stun to stack it with). But if I have a Dark Blast character without Night Fall, that's because the character hasn't yet reached 12 (Defender) or 22 (Corruptor leaving room for Stamina at 20, though that would change in I19)

That's not the blood god. That's a daemonspawn reincarnation of a Chaos Space Marine that fell in love with Cultist-chan in his previous life, who foolishly went to Tzeentch (god of "screw you") for help. "Waffles for the blood god" is a riff on the classic Chaos battlecry "Blood for the blood god!"

The blood god is Khorne, depicted by Mr-Culexus here (NSFW language). I believe this is an official Games Workshop picture of Khorne, but I don't actually own any of the books, so I'm just guessing now.

Nope, villains are unable to cheat at dice. A long while ago I proposed villains gain access to that emote from the beginning. This would result in heroes gaining access to the police scanner from the start, while villains have to earn a badge for the emote. Similarly, villains would always be able to cheat at dice, while heroes would have to earn a badge for it.

  24. Yes. In fact, my first Praetorian was made based purely on a name I liked: "Chaos Babydoll".

I don't remember how I came up with the name, but when I was sitting in the character creator trying to figure out what would go with the name, I decided the "Chaos" portion would be from the Chaos Space Marines of Warhammer 40K. Now I've got a Demon/Pain MM who was the result of the union between a daemon and a Chaos worshipper who had gotten lost in the Warp. The resulting hellspawn then got thrown out of the Warp and landed in Praetoria, the poor dear.

She still worships the Dark Gods, but she's lost in a universe where nobody else has even heard of Warp storms, much less her gods and her people. Fortunately, she's able to summon some of her childhood friends from the Warp, if only for a short time.

    ...

And now I have Cultist-chan in my signature, which is actually a total coincidence. I'm serious!
