Quote:I don't play very many different MMOs, so I can't speak to the 'most' comment, but I know at least one MMO which allows unlimited respecs, at any time (so long as you're not in an instance), without having to pay any real or fake money. You can even change your secondary when you respec, given certain conditions. Let's call it ***ld **rs, developed by ***na*et, and produced by a familiar company.I'm sure most if not all do not let you respec any time you want. At least MMOs.
As for respecs in this game, all I can say is that the only time I've ever felt the need of extra respecs was when I was first starting out, and I saw an oooold guide recommending 6-slotting Hasten (joining the game around I8). At that point, purchasing a respec was impossible, for inf or for cash, and I had trouble finding a team willing and able to complete the Terra Volta trial. (I did try it once, and failed.) But even with the errors in my build, I could play the game just fine, and eventually I was able to get through a respec trial, and I could get freespecs, and vetspecs, etc.
Now that I know the game, I have very little need to respec (besides the automatic respec at 24 for soldiers/widows). The last time I even used a freespec was when the Incarnate trials were released, so that my MM henchmen could compete better. And I'm pretty sure the freespec I used had been awarded two years (or more!) prior. So now I've got respecs falling out my ears, and I can't imagine using them up. -
Quote:/bind sysrq "screenshotui 0$$screenshot"What I always do, is bind the UI Toggle to CTRL+Scroll Lock. Then, the first thing I do is press that to toggle it off (because most of my screenshots are for cool pics and the UI would only be in the way). Whenever I need to take a pic that includes the UI, I toggle it on for that pic. But I always toggle it back off afterward. This keeps me from forgetting whether it's toggled on or off (as there's no way to tell without leaving the client and looking in my screenshot folder, which is incidentally in your Programs > City of Heroes > Screenshots).
/bind shift+sysrq "screenshotui 1$$screenshot"
The guarantees that "PrintScreen" will always give you a picture without UI, and "Shift+PrintScreen" will always give you a picture with UI. You never have to worry about forgetting to toggle it. -

How about comparing it to the "buy now!" button that trial users got before CoH:F? You couldn't close it, and while you could move it out of the way, it would re-center itself on the screen every time you changed zones.

Most of the codes follow the same format: "cucp", two letters for which pack it comes from ("op" for "Origin Pack" in this case), and two letters for what item within the pack it is. I've seen a few things that deviate slightly (The "Protest Loyalist" emote normally unlocked with GR is cucplpro, for example; no pack identifier, so it's a 4-letter item identifier instead of 2).Also, perhaps worse, it the repeat of item names with different codes. I am not sure if this is a bug, or if they actually represent different items.
Example:

Origin Auras Pack 1 0 Never CUCPOPCA
Origin Auras Pack 1 0 Never CUCPOPLA

I haven't bothered trying to figure out what the cucp represents, as far as I'm concerned it's a meaningless prefix. -

Quote:Really? "The prime of all prime times"? Have you checked the percentage of Oceanic players? The only form of compensation they need to offer is to stop screwing over Oceanic players.
Yes maintenance has to happen and is isn't actionable.
However, the Devs are doing at a time which is either done with malice or done with extreme stupidity.
This is the second week in a row Friday night has been out for Oceanics, Friday night is as prime as primetime gets. How about instead of Thursday morning, the Devs do their thing Wednesday morning, or Tuesday morning, or Monday morning, or any morning that doesn't equate to the prime of all prime times. It isn't unreasonable to expect courtesy.
The vast majority of the playerbase is in North America; following that, in Europe. I believe the most recent downtime was in the wee hours of the morning (~4am?) CST, which would put it close to midday in the UK. That's far from prime time for the vast majority of the playerbase, who are asleep (NA) or at work/school (EU). If I were to make an executive decision on when to take down my servers, that's a time period I would go for, certainly. -

Um... there isn't one? The name of the power is simply "Taser", and I SERIOUSLY doubt there's a brand name printed on the side of the weapon model. (Besides, don't they use the same animation as the lv1 Taser attack Tech characters get... that is, not weapon at all?)

Or you could use one of the dozen or so temporary/permanent flight powers, aggro Lemkin, and fly over the lava. Ta-da!

Hurricane and Ice Slick were especially helpful on the second mission as them and the boys kept the mobs away while MM clicked on glowies. Quote:Yup. From Paragonwiki:The Hero Merit is worth 100+ Reward Merits, because the things you can buy with 1 Hero Merit can be bought with 100+ Reward Merits.
Quote:Availability is based on the cost of the recipe from a Merit Vendor in Reward Merits. - Items that cost less than 100 Reward Merits are not available for purchase.
- Items that cost 100-199 Reward Merits cost 1 Hero Merits.
- Items that cost 200-299 Reward Merits cost 2 Hero Merits.
- Items that cost 300 or more Reward Merits do not exist, but would presumably follow the same pattern.
- Items that cannot be purchased with Reward Merits have a special pricing scheme (purples, PVP IOs, Respecs, costume parts, etc)
I think the Alignment Merits are worth a little bit less than 100:1 if you go for random rolls, but for straight purchases Alignment Merits are worth 100-199 Reward Merits. -

Quote:Sniper-class enemies already have interruptible snipes. And the Snipers are immobilized so that they don't run away and interrupt themselves.Snipers? What if you made enemy Snipers like players; excessive damage, but if you break LOS with the shooter during the animation/interrupt time it doesn't go off, as well as being interruptible. Tack on some 'critical' non-resistable damage to these NPC snipes, or some debuffs, so that it gives some incentive for any player to take cover or switch to kill the sniper once seen, and make sure their AI keeps Snipers avoiding melee contact/easy AoE range.
Quote:Location-Targetted DoT AoEs? Your standard ones, like Caltrops, are just a huge radius that can't be avoided aside from simply backing off and reverting to ranged combat. It'd be nice to see enemies with some of these with a relatively small radius/recharge time; if you stay in one spot, they can rapidly build the DoT up to unsurvivable levels, but if you keep moving it can be easily avoided. (I.E: A Vahz minion shoots you with a chemical sprayer. That one spot now has a 100 dmg over 25 seconds burn patch. He keeps shooting every 5 seconds; if you stay still, you'll have silly amounts effecting you.)
Quote:'Warning' AoEs? This method, of giving a character an essentially unstoppable attack, but then giving anyone around them advance warning so they can back off/move away, preventing 'get to melee range and then pound til it dies'. Do it at range, too; the location its about to shoot starts to glow, and you'd best get out or you're a corpse.
'Intercept-capable attacks'? I.E: The boss makes a smaller, weaker creature, which will self-destruct when it hits you, or after X seconds. You either shoot this thing down en route, launch it off with knockback/etc, or otherwise simply keep it from getting close.
Quote:Enemies who its actually a bad idea to attack at certain points? Perhaps entering a brief phase where they regen when dealt damage, and have an insane resist, while not attacking. Or when they reach X health, they start to self destruct; and each hit they take after this point buffs the range/dmg/to-hit of the explosion. -
Solution: roll Natural characters, who get the bonus from both Blackwand and Nemesis Staff.

One of the signature arcs is showing up in my Ouroboros list. So annoying, since I can't complete it. It's the only one without a gold star! ;_;
-
I find with cones, it's often useful to take a jump backwards before activating it, to get maximum spread. Learning how to know which target to pick takes some practice, too, and is dependent on exactly what size cone you're using.
For example, my /Dark/Soul Mastermind uses Fearsome Stare, Soul Tentacles, and Night Fall all the time. NF is 60ft range, 20 degree cone, while ST is 40ft 25 degree, and FS has some range enhancement, putting it up to 81.2ft range, 30 degrees. If I want to use the three in succession, I usually FS, hop forward, NS, hop forward, ST. That works for the range increments; knowing how to align the attacks for the arcs is purely practice.
Targeting an enemy further back in the group often does help for targeting, though. -
Quote:My most-played character is a Mastermind, with shift+lbutton, alt+lbutton, ctrl+lbutton bound to the minion, lieutenant, and boss henchman summon powers, respectively. The only time I've ever seen the targeting reticle for my henchmen summons is if I ctrl+click to set a power in my tray to autofire (the game picks up ctrl+lbutton = summon boss, but I'm clicking the UI so the power doesn't fire). For a long time I used the simple shift+lbutton teleport with my teleporting Defender, too, and I never saw the targeting reticle until I started using DrLetharga's bind files. That's not been my experience. In any power I have that involves a targeting reticle, if I bind it to Shift +, Alt +, or Ctrl + the left button, the reticle shows up if I hit Ctrl, Alt, or Shift--even if it's part of some other keybind. (Like I get the reticle for my Ctrl + left click-bound Shield Charge to show up if I hit Ctrl + J to toggle on my superjump-autorun bind. It's really kind of annoying, but I put up with it for the convenience of being able to target my targetable powers quickly.)
The problem with [modifier]+lbutton binds is that the game sees the key combination for a bind, so it activates the power; then at the same time, it sees a left click action to fire the location power that's active, and it never has to display the reticle, because the power is already going off (or if you're already in a power animation, the power is queued with a location already set). -
-
Note that with the shift+lbutton bind, you don't get to see the targeting reticle.
Here's a more complicated version, with a more sophisticated result (courtesy of DrLetharga):
teleport_off.txt:
Quote:(Replace various window_hide commands with windows you want to get out of your way while teleporting)lshift "+ $$powexec_name teleport$$vis_scale 0.5$$shadowvol 2$$ss 2$$camdist 30$$window_hide health$$window_hide map$$window_hide chat$$window_hide target$$window_hide tray$$bind_load_file_silent teleport_on1.txt"
shift+lbutton nop
teleport_on1.txt:
Quote:lshift "- $$powexec_unqueue$$vis_scale 1.0$$shadowvol 0$$ss 0$$camdist 12$$window_show health$$window_show map$$window_show chat$$window_show target$$window_show tray$$bind_load_file_silent teleport_off.txt"
shift+lbutton "+ $$bind_load_file_silent teleport_on2.txt"
teleport_on2.txt:
Quote:shift+lbutton "- $$powexec_name teleport$$bind_load_file_silent teleport_on1.txt"
Quote:ctrl+t "vis_scale 1.0$$shadowvol 0$$ss 0$$camdist 12$$window_show health$$window_show chat$$window_show target$$window_show tray$$bind_load_file teleport_off.txt"
The result is that when you hold down the left shift key, a number of windows are closed to give you a better view, moves the camera back to 30ft, turns off shadows and reduces the draw distance to help combat lag, and the teleport targeting reticle comes up. When you release the shift key, the windows come back, the graphics settings are restored, and the camera is move to 12ft. As expected, clicking the left mouse button while holding shift will cause you to teleport.
This gives you a wide range of view, makes an attempt at reducing lag, and lets you see exactly where you're clicking when you teleport, unlike the much simpler shift+lbutton bind.
Of course, things can go screwy if the game fails to load bind files speedily enough to keep up with your fingers, so the reset file is included to fix any problems. You can easily change what windows and graphics settings are affected by changing the files, and if you're teleporting with a different power (on a Warshade, or something), you can change the power name. -
