  1. I'd like to thank my friend Flea for posting this - I appreciate it, Flea.

I joined City of Heroes in.. 2006, I think? Maybe 2005? Whenever Sharkey found it and started doing his CEO of Earth articles on 1up. It was good times. I left City of Heroes about the time it went free to play. Before then, I'd been here for 20 issues - through the good times and the bad. I don't know. Something changed about the game when it went free to play, and even before then I hadn't been playing much. I think that we could sort of see the sunset in the distance for some time now, but this still comes as a moment. I'll doff my cap and bow my head, but I think we'll all still move on. What's most important about City of Heroes is not the game, but the people we met and the friendships we had while we were here. I still talk to Flea on Mumble, and Void and Ice and Kinx and all of my friends. I still chat with my friend Vicki Victrix on Google. I still talk to KelpPlankton on IRC. These are the important parts of City of Heroes. Not the game itself, the people it collected, the sort of people that wanted to wear the cape and be heroes.

Will we ever see those people collect around one place again? Sure. Somewhere. Will it be like this? Yes. How long will it take? Will we see one another again? I don't know how long it'll take, because no other game is like City of Heroes, and that's why we'll miss it so much. And as for seeing each other again... I think we will, if we make a point to do it. If we keep in touch with each other, if we stay friends and stay together, we'll take City of Heroes away with us when the doors close.

I can't say that I miss City. I haven't logged in for a year, and in a way I'll be happy to have it off my hard drive - I'm always dying for space, and this'll be a few gigs of room I can give to my other starving programs. But it should say something that I've kept it there for so long, because it was something that was important to me. I kept thinking 'well, if everything else sucks, there's always City of Heroes.' It was part of me, for many years. It'll still be part of me, for ever and ever. I will never take off my cape. I don't think any of you will, either.

I will say that I think NCSoft and Paragon Studios made a lot of really, really BAD decisions - having to ask my friend Flea to post this is reflective of those decisions. It makes me a little mad to see the end of things in this fashion, borne down under the weight of their own entropy than anything else, but I suppose after 8 years this is how it happens. Again, should City of Heroes fade, we will still be here, and we shall stay together. Make a point to stay together, even when this world ends, because when the next begins, we'll be together.

  3. You know.

The irony of this is that come the end, I'm still a wandering SGless nomad, seemingly jinxed and cursed to wander alone.

This became my home after a very, very bad breakup from my other half. And this has remained my home. I'm here for your daily snark, sarcasm, wit and giant bugs. I'm here because that's what I want to be.

But at the end of the day?

This has me gutted. Kicked hard in the stomach. Yeah, I pissed a lot of folk off and upset even more. But I still consider you all friends. Thank you for it all folks. Thank you for keeping me here, thank you for keeping me RPing when I felt like ****.

    Wow..

They would have announced CoH 2 first. Hell, they still have Guild Wars up and running. This just feels too sudden. Too damn harsh.

This feels like a sloppy marketing decision made at the last minute.
  5. This seems....too abrupt.

There were no signs. None. Recent interviews implied that the game was going from strength to strength, the new content was fantastic and there was plenty more to come. Given the recent run of hacker incidents I can't just believe this yet.

We need some sort of confirmation. Twitter, FB, The site? Nothing is redname confirmation. It could all be hacked.

Come on. Give us a reason.

And watch us Kickstart the hell out of you guys to keep this strong.

  7. ...The world will still not mourn this as much as the day Leonard Nimoy dies.

On that day there will be silence.
  8. Understand now I've been reluctant to put this up. Hesitant. To me it felt cheap, as though as I was selling out or something and not doing this idea justice. But it comes after a realisation that, stubborn as I may be this is the sort of thing that cannot just exist on its own. It needs others' help in order to survive.

First off, The Last Hunter is not a traditional SG. There will be no base. There is no uniform. There is no true 'unity' other than the idea it represents and the purpose it serves. In essence it is a tribute; a tribute to the idea of the wandering hero, destined to turned up where and when most needed only to wander off into the mists when all has settled.

It is inspired by the Samurai and Western genre of films, as well as a certain very important bit of Eastern mythology that most of the world is familiar with. It is the idea that life is a journey, one in which the destination does not matter, but more the journey itself and those you travel with. It is a SG where there is not open recruitment, but more roleplay orientated recruitment with possibilities that members will come and go. Ultimately there is nothing binding one to this journey. Nothing locking you down into it. Should you come across a group you wish to stay with then by all means stay. None will think less of it.

It is also something of a visual metaphor for redemption. Let's go back to that bit of Eastern mythology - Journey to the West. Now understand this - the Monkey King was a thief, rebel and rogue. Sandy was a murderer. Pigsy was a glutton. None of these characters were truly heroic...yet on their journey they redeemed themselves and ultimately changed their path.

This is the purpose of the Last Hunter, as I have come to realise. Redemption. Ideally I'd like for it to pick up waifs and strays, fallen heroes and lost monsters and ultimately give them a chance at redemption. No fixed base. No uniform. Simply a journey. Travelling from place to place, showing where most needed and leaving once their task is complete.

The 'SG' part is purely for administrative assistance. It came about after I realised I was pretty much jinxed for finding stable RP SGs. They collapsed, died of inactivity or disbanded, leaving Flea a wandering ronin with no real purpose or destination. The idea was to create something where, with others help I could show up to one event or the other, interact with folks and move on.

Ultimately there will be a plot to the journey. Each part will focus on one of the travelling companions, their past, their goals and perhaps the light that comes to them at the end of the day. Rather than having set events or issues, it will be chronicled in 'books'. Another nod to the genre.

Ultimately this SG needs the help of others though. It's not something that can be done on its own. I need folks from other SGs and groups to work with me and it'd be nice to get some RP and interaction again. I am tired of being on my own and seemingly wandering, lost, as an exile. As such this idea serves to try and build bridges. To try and salvage the past I may have damaged with some folk. And it serves to offer the same chance to others.

ICly Flea's history has always been dark. He was a former killer. He was the type of villain that didn't warrant the National Guard or Army. He had no plans to take over the world, take hostages or demand tribute. As a 'general' threat he was minimal. But on a more personal level, when he was in an area the risk to heroes went up. In that degree of threat he was extreme. As such he has blood on his hands. He has his own sins to redeem and the journey is ultimately his redemption. But if he can offer the same to others or restore hope to those who have ultimately given it up, then who is he to say no? Who is he to judge?

So, should you be running an event, a cross-SG plot or even just normal RP and have a spot open or could do with an outside force showing as needed...then please, feel free to contact me. Like I said, this needs the help of others to thrive. It cannot be done alone. And if you be interested in the other aspect of this group? Again, contact me. I cannot say it's open recruitment. Everything will come about through RP and I reserve the right to say 'No.'

Contacting me can be done here or in game with the global @The Flea.

    Thanks.
  9. Well I have been out of action the past three weeks - and the Voice is meant to be somewhat mysterious that way.
  10. What to choose...what to choose...

Flea is obviously siding with the Challengers...

But there's always the option to bring out the former 'Angel' of ERA that is Despair...or if UU show in force the option to unveil The Voice of Dagon....
  11. Long story short -computer died a few weeks back. Waiting on Plan B. Have to get new computer but this will take time. Miss you guys. Tempted to kickstart for a new computer. Hope to see you soon!
  12. Patch Notes for Issue 24.

The Freedom Phalanx has been replaced with the Fleadom Phalanx.
  13. So, wait.

The TLDR version of the OP is

'Use anyone's ideas but your own for your characters.'

Gotta say, that sounds pretty damn poor.

My advice? Be true to the character, whatever the concept may be.
  14. Dear Demetrios.

As the canonical ******* of the server that you are trying to pull these shenanigans off (to the point where I've had signature characters look at Flea along the lines of 'Whiskey Foxtrot Tango, did he just say that?') I would like to politely inform your Lord of Demons ( 1 of about about 10,000 going by Pocket D averages these days) that I am disinclined to acquiesce to his request and to jolly well bugger off before I stuff his infernal/abyssal/tartian/netherworld-ial/etc head up his back side and solve this problem for us all.

    Signed,
    Flea.
  15. I play a six foot plus tall Flea.

Who comes from an alternate dimension where a catastrophic event pretty much wiped out every higher organism, leaving insects to evolve and thrive.

You can have animalistic mutations (i.e. Mako). You can have animalistic genetic modifications (i.e. Mynx). You can have animalistic spirits and manifestations (i.e. Grymm and the Tuatha). You can even have animalistic alternate dimension critters and aliens.

Or you could play someone in a fursuit. That could of course be hilarious if done right. Use animal parts and RP it out as someone in a full fursuit, complaining about the heat, fake fur falling off and getting into their eyes, their head getting stuck....

God damn, why hasn't somebody gone and done that already?!

    Prime example being this.

Unless of course you want to imply that The Big Lebowski is just for kids.
  17. Watch this.

And understand. I deny any involvement!
  18. Not to forget me in this either. Since I slept during this.

Before this a group of us and Thorgar decided we would let out grief out in our own way. As Thorgar put it, kill enough things in game and stack them several foot tall. Me being me, I decided to go a step further for him.

We started with 2 Clockwork Paladins.
    We then found Jurassik.
By accident we killed a Sally.
    We then found a Kraken.
We then hunted down an Adamastor.
And finally we killed a Babbage.

With all of those we left Salsakitten her very own Voltron, made of bits of giant monsters that we slaughtered. It was a somewhat ridiculous motion, but one I felt she would have liked. At some point I'm horribly tempted to attempt a photoshop of how it may have looked at the end.

To Salsakitten. You will be missed. The Kitteh and Flea presidential run may be postponed but you will be missed.

Because in Britain we have our supers good and proper.

    Statesman....Hero 1.
    Captain America....Captain Britain.

    /nuff said.

    Back on topic.

The death scene was....I wouldn't say moving...but it was touching. The fact it showcased the nature of his 'humanity' was what gave it power. Good move on that. Pity most of the SSA content seems really lacklustre though.

And most certainly doesn't compare to some of the stuff coming.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Get out of your bases. It's bad enough that people perpetuate the "nerd who lives in the basement" stereotype, and it's even worse when a lot of groups on Virtue tack on "RPer who RP's in base only."
    QFT and all that jazz.
