Have you by chance renamed your updater exe file to bypass the UAC?
-
I'm assuming you've completely exited the client and restarted the updater?
Also, try deleting the Checksum. Unless of course you have, if so sorry :/ -
I didn't receive any notice that the store was down upon signing in. There's generally a pop up when it's down.

Quote:It doesn't matter what time of the day it is, nor who is on. Hence the emergency part of the maintenance. It was a hotfix that needed to be applied immediately. You know, I'm just glad they had the wisdom to wait until 1/3 of the country was stuck at home with time to actually play task forces before they took the game down with 30 minutes notice in the early afternoon. That way, they not only irritated those who were playing the strike forces, but also people who'd planned to use the late afternoon to get one in before the wife came home.
Seriously, does anyone look at server load before they decide on an emergency fix that only effects people playing at a level where they ought to KNOW to read the "URGENT" messages? -
Quote:They're absolutely tested. This one in particular was not tested very well, but even the ones that are tested for stupidly long periods of time can have issues.Ok here's my thing. I've been playing this game since 2004 and it seems that when ever a new issue comes out, a couple of days after there is always a patch to fix it. My question is do they test to see of it will be a problem when they go live with the issue? Seems like it's never the case.
Test Server != Live Server. What works perfectly fine on Test can work disastrously on Live. That's been proven time and time again. -

Quote:I was wondering when someone was going to wander in here with the "calm down" postcalm down. obviously something was messed up royally that they are fixing. It happens. Its not like this is an every day occurrence. So just breathe and read up on some builds or jabber on your home server's forums. Or kill some brain cells by watching American Idol. lol
I am calm and this is how I'm choosing to waste my time until the servers are back up. By posting incessantly until it's fixed! Lmao -
Quote:The hotfix? Or the extended down time?My F5 key is SERIOUSLY worn out!
And does anyone have a clue what this is about?
The hotfix resolves a crashing issue with the Alpha slot which apparently would cause map server disconnects during TF's and take away all rewards.
The extended down time seems to be because one of the server rats passed out -

*sigh*
I'm so bored. This went from a 2 hour emergency maintenance window, to a soon to be 4 hour disaster! -
Oh hey! I just noticed I finally made it over 1000 posts!!
>.>
<.<
I feel all dirty now. -
Quote:Hehe.I guess I was a little late on that one...'cause I couldn't get on the forums.
Av also posted an update saying they're "waiting to bring up the servers". Whatever that means.
Edit: "We're running into problems with one of our systems and expect a further delay of at least 15 minutes. We'll get there!" according to the latest update. -
So we're now an hour later than the expected completion time, and the forums are now glitching out too. (Or are they just turning them off/on so as to evade the mass hysteria that follows late maintenance windows!)

Quote:First off, Welcome back to the gameI've been away for a little over a year. Been back less than 2 weeks, and so far it's been a mixed bag of fun and disappointment.
The game was slowly getting more unstable before I left, and now it's at the worst it's ever been, with random crashes most people are blaming on their cards. Then to see that now server maintenance is done in the late afternoon when people are getting home, versus in the morning as I always remember...
If this is so critical it can't wait until morning, then maybe it's critical enough to give some information.
I've been playing non-stop with maybe a month or 2 here and there break, and the game has never been more stable. At least for me anyway. There is currently an issue that requires an immediate fix. This isn't a "regular maintenance window".
That being said, maintenance was also changed from every morning to every Thursday morning back in Oct 2009. So no, this isn't normal. -
It's in the original announcement for the emergency downtime. Av replied to her post.
It looks like the servers *may* be slowly making their back up now. Or not... -
Quote:That's generally because it's a notebook. You can try the manufacturer of your notebook for the latest drivers, or you'll have to use a third party for newer drivers. There are a few places that repackage the latest drivers so notebook users can bypass the silly manufacturer defaults. I haven't had a notebook in quite a while so can't remember off the top of my head, but a Google search will help you out, or someone might chime inFlame. How in the world do you update your drivers? Me and my roommate both are constantly C***blocked when we try to update.
If I go to the website and download a driver then tell it to install, the program tells me I either A) grabbed the wrong driver or B) am trying to install a driver that's no good for my card.
If I try to use the Microsoft tool to search for no drivers it tells me that I'm up to date....as you and I can both see from that readout there's no way that no one's developed drivers in 2+ years.
So what do you do when you update your driver?
Edit: You can try here. Try out the ones Master-Blade posted first, as they're from nVidia. But if they don't work try the other I posted. Although lately GPU manufacturers are pushing more and more towards supporting notebook GPU's with their newer drivers, some notebook manufacturers still bork up the INF files so you can't install directly from nVidia or AMD. It's one of the silliest faux-pas I've ever come across, but up until recently apparently no one cared. -
Except for that whole "Here's a hotfix" in the actual announcement
Generally indicating a patch :P
-
Ice_Storm, might want to start with updating those drivers.
-
I know right?
Took them a while to give the ol' "We're going to be a bit longer!" post too. I almost feel petty when I think "How come it's not back online when they said it would be!". Then I remember how much money I've shelled out over the years and I'm able to justify myself. To myself, of course.
I tend to talk to myself when the server is down....that's normal right? -
Is it unreasonable for me to expect the server to be back up at 6:40pm EST? Lol
Sorry, I couldn't resist. I'm bored and this seemed like fun. Flame away! -
My experiences since switching to these drivers:
I have a GTS 250. Immediately I noticed an issue. The game went from running at 50fps to 4fps. I fiddled with some settings at first and nothing stood out.
I've reproduced fixing this issue a few times, but there are a couple of things that seem to resolve it in no specific order, and it's generally luck of the draw which one actually resolves it.
If I set my FSAA from 4x to disabled and then back again, this can resolve it.
If I change Environment Reflections, Water Effects or Shadow Quality from High Quality to Disabled and back again, this can resolve it.
Anyone have any ideas as to why this might be happening? -
Quote:You just explained why it's working for you and you don't even know itHmmm...I bought the Party Pack last night for both my accounts. One was on my bankcard, and the other was on PayPal. (I did the transactions back to back.) They went through without a hitch. I have IE8 my anti-virus proggy running. I ordered late at night, and have never gotten a "Try another retailer" message or been turned down. I truly wish I could figure out why so many others are having problems so I could help. I am stumped.
You used your bank card for one transaction, and paypal for another. The issues doesn't exist if you're using more than one card/paypal account to make purchases. The problems arise when you try to make more than one purchase with the same credit card. It's totally ridiculous. For some silly reason, NCSoft believes if they only allow you to make 1 purchase per credit card per every 24 hours, they're actually deterring fraudulent activity.
You would think purchasing from multiple cards/accounts would set off a red flag much faster than charging $59 to one credit card. *rolls eyes*
In this time of technological wonders, there are plenty of other ways to protect yourselves from fraud. I think it's time to update training in the financial department.
