Quote:You did notice that's actually referenced by the quotes in my post, right? I'm well aware (and was before I went looking for them). My point in posting the dictionary references is to illustrate that the Latin use is a nonsensical thing to lambaste someone over when a trip to any modern dictionary reveals the Latin use of the term is, if not obsolete, only one of (basically) two accepted uses. Edit: And doing a little more digging, it looks like the newer use of the term has been with us since the 19th century.
It looks to me like an example of pedantic argument gone wrong.
No, I didn't actually (had kid aggro while reading and I apologize that my brain skipped that piece. Wouldn't have posted the link if I'd seen it.), and wasn't trying to argue anything.....was just trying to be helpful *goes off to the corner of sadness* -

This isn't just something "that's in the dictionary". I'd say that the alternates are well accepted, and the OP's use is frequently denoted as obsolete. Contrast that with "ain't", which is usually denoted as informal or slang.

Quote:No, it's still expanding. Latest studies show that not only is it expanding, but the rate of expansion is actually accelerating. Some linguists have suggested a hypothetical force called 'Dark Etymology' to account for this phenomenon. -
Just had to throw in my two cents on this once, since I'm a massive nerd when it comes to "Altered English". Over the Centuries, many English words have shifted from their original purposes and acquired vastly different meanings. This process is a continuous one, as can be seen in today's word "bad, " whose meaning is now its own opposite: "great." As another example, consider England 500 years ago. Then, "improve" meant "to make progress in that which is evil." And there was no romantic "tryst" with a man or woman; then the word meant "a fair for black cattle, horses, and sheep"!
Here's a few words that once meant one thing, but now mean another:
Landowner: A dead man
Infantry: Children
Investment: Getting dressed
Jay: A woman of loose morals
Jealous: Devoted
Job: A sudden stab with a pointed instrument
Kittie: A name given to any kind of cow
Mess: A party of four
Myriad: The number ten thousand
Ear: A kidney
Ecstasy: A state of excessive grief
Toddler: An elderly person
Tush: A tooth
Or....my personal favourite!
Dork: A thick slice of bread, often used in sandwich making
A nerd I are. And if anyone else is interested, I learned most of these through the book and fun little fact cards titled "Altered English: Surprising Meanings of Familiar Words"

Two movies that all the Devs will have to hand in their Nerd Cards over if they haven't/don't go see them:

The Gamers: Dorkness Rising
Both by Dead Gentlemen Productions
They are also the ....minds.... behind Syphilitic Ninja Vampires -

I would like to know this too. I've tried things like organizing the items by name, but it still goes off some arbitrary claiming list, so I get to spend a lot of time clicking and clicking and clicking.

Due to some extreme boredom on my part, and a little creativeness, I decided to mess around in the character creator to see if I could come up with a few ideas for female pets. (Putting them as links so as not to make a giant post)
Going off the male ninja outfit, I came up with this:
http://img443.imageshack.us/img443/2...dec070738p.jpg
http://img406.imageshack.us/img406/6...2dec070739.jpg
http://img839.imageshack.us/img839/4...3dec070739.jpg
http://img830.imageshack.us/img830/8...4dec070739.jpg
I used the following:
Head: Ninja
Hair: Topknot
Top: Baggy 2
Gloves: Warrior
Belt: Circle of Thorns
Pants: Baggy Tucked in
Boots: Wrapped
I also decided to try a "sexy" version:

http://img833.imageshack.us/img833/9...0dec070811.jpg
http://img528.imageshack.us/img528/2...1dec070811.jpg
http://img840.imageshack.us/img840/1...2dec070811.jpg
http://img32.imageshack.us/img32/141...3dec070811.jpg
I used the following:
Head: Ninja
Hair: Topknot
Top: Patent Leather
Gloves: Warrior
Belt: Circle of Thorns
Pants: Patent Leather
Boots: Flat Wrapped
I came up with this for Thugs:
http://img850.imageshack.us/img850/1...5dec070742.jpg
http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/119...6dec070742.jpg
http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/558...7dec070742.jpg
http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/690...8dec070742.jpg
I used the following:
Head: Face 20 (I'm partial to that face on my females)
Hair: Shimmer (with teal and purple for a "punky" style)
Jacket: Biker
Sleeves: Retro
Shoulders: Small Tri-Spike
Top: Strapless
Gloves: Fingerless
Belt: Large Leather Eyelets
Pants: Basic Pants- Motorcycle Leathers
Boots: Combat
Oh, and for the sliders, I used these settings:
I was able to make them using current pieces I had available to me, and they weren't overly skimpy on the outfits. I based the ninja outfits off of the CoH ones, as well as the anime style, where the ponytail shows through the mask. For the thug look, I essentially went with the typical biker/punk female.
Any thoughts, comments? I will try coming up with some ideas for Mercs as well, and if you guys want, I can take a shot at female zombies -

Quote:Yeah, I've been on teams where I've had to put up a 2 minute long disclaimer on what I will and will not do for people....needless to say I don't play my EMPs much unless I'm feeling "nice".Is that thought process still with us? Whenever I'm putting something together my default answer is "bring what you like and we'll make it work." I can't offhand come up with much where a team would NEED an Emp... and if they insist they do then it's probably not a team I want to be on.

Quote:Thinking about it, it's going to be pretty disappointing if the whole plot just boils down to Wade trying to steal a Phalanxer's powers so he won't be normal anymore.
....Define normal
EDIT: Playing thru the arc on my tank while waiting to get my girls ready for school (Thank Bob for late start days) I must say, this arc has made me want to mess with my villains more. Granted, I have two level 50 rogue/vigilante toons, but still. Then again half way thru mission 2 I was hopping onto the Wiki to understand the content....

Quote:They don't usually publish the notes until later. And don't worry, barring [REDACTED] we will still be around! Thanks very much for that link! I was unaware they were going to be offline for half the day, that kind of sucks. The patch notes don't go anywhere, they link to the nov 15 publish. Ah well, losing my internet tomorrow because I'm transferring. Wanted to get a look at titan weapons, but looks like that will have to wait until FEB.
Hope you guys are all still around when I get to log back in! See you there.
