  1. Obviously, you've never seen a round, empty-headed chimp-like man-moron, or you'd never mistake me for one, you overgrown Fauntleroy.

  2. Local Man, have I mentioned how much of a Hero you are to me? I post a request and you just seem to _GET_ it. What I'm asking about and why I'm asking, and you give answers that Make Sense!

So, play it at range - like I have been so far, and look into some defense. Some healing is always good, if only to buy a little more time to lock some controls on the enemy. And the goal is to not get hit, by not being Seen... makes perfect sense.

A pure SO build lets me see what's really important. Besides, I'm not going to be ready for IOs for at least five levels, more likely ten levels. Then I'll have the slots to take good advantage of IO Sets and I'll be more likely to have the cash to spend on them - which I decidedly Don't, at level 22.

Thanks a lot for your insight.

Ill/ta is a very safe, completely ranged, character. I would build for recharge (of course) and as much ranged def as you can get. But realistically you don't need a whole lot.

At work so I'll leave it at that.

    Have fun with it.
Oh, I'm not considering Quitting! I agree, Ill/TA has super synergy and allows you to stand back and just watch the carnival.

As for Oil Slick, I won't have that until the mid 30s. I'm more concerned about what to do right now, at level 22 - I'm not worried about the future, but right Now. I don't get anything from Primary or Secondary for a few levels, so it's time for Power Pools, but Which One(s)?

What are your goals for the build? Are you building towards global + rech or for + ranged defense?

I tend to plan my controller builds to be primarily about + rech as so many critical powers are on really long recharge timers. For Mind/Storm that's particularly true as having multiple Tornados/Freezing Rain/Lightning Storms out make an enormous difference.

The other thing I would be building towards is +rec as /storm is a MASSIVE end hog (and has no end recovery powers) esp once you start summoning Tornado and Lightning Storm.

So, if it was me, the two things I'd be focusing on are + rech and + rec (and endred in ALL your main attack chain powers and psuedo-pet summons ). With those in mind a few things leapt out at me in your build:

    1. You have Confuse, and Mass Confuse slotted with Malaise Illusions (which is a great set) but you have them both 4 slotted, when you would get +6.25 (12.5% for both) global Rech if you put one more Malaise in each them.

    2. Call of the Sandman is also slotted just short of where you get the really good set bonuses, and the set is, in general, quite inexpensive.

    3. You have The Numina Reg/Rec slotted in Health (which is great), but you don't have the Miricle +rec in there as well. The Miracle + rec is absurdly expensive, but what I'd suggest is buying/crafting a CHEAP Miracle IO (one of the set that's NOT in high demand, and get it at as low a level as you can) and then use the Enhancement Converters that you've no doubt been picking up in the course of playing in the last couple months to convert IN SET to get the +Miracle +rec unique IO.

    4. You have the ATO set in Total Dom, which isn't the worst place it could be (Mind/ has a really hard time with setting AOE containment), but you might consider (if you haven't already), putting it in Mass Hyp instead as that would let you spam it so you get decent milage out of the +dmg proc. That would mean you don't get the bonuses out of Sandman though. Perhaps you could put the ATO proc in either Mass Hyp or Terrify and pick up the last ATO to put with the rest of the set wherever you chose to put it?

You've done quite a bit of good widgeting from a frankenslot perspective, and if that's what you want to do, that's awesome. Most of what I'm talking about above has to do with identifying what set bonuses could be helping you and where you want to focus on as you move into the end game.

So, totally scratch that, bad idea, nothing to see here, this is not the ATO placement you are looking for...

Putting the ATO set in Terrify is the other AOE location you could use it, but that one I DID think through :: roll-eyes ::, and given the total lack of dmg in the ATO set it would suck *if* you use Terrify largely as a damage power. If, on the other hand, you use Terrify largely as a soft control power I'd absolutely put the ATO set into Terrify as it will proc VERY often in a slow recharge power like Terrify while it gives you a great fear duration, recharge, endred, acc etc.

Another option would be to put the ATO into Dominate where it would up your single target damage *quite* a bit. As I said, TD isn't the worst place for it, but the proc is a good one, and I hate to see it getting so little use sitting in such an infrequently available power. Personally I'd slot it in my singe target hold, where it completely fulfills it's intended purpose. I'd totally give it a whirl in Terrify on test though.

Another reason to keep it out of Mass Hyp (just to grind the point home for myself) is that the Purple Sleep set is one of the more reasonable ones out there, and if you're planning on doing post 50 content with your Dream Warrior (LOVE the concept btw!) you might as well be keeping final build in mind as you get closer.

I'm sorry, I got distracted and let this post slip a bit.

Thanks for your comments, Argentae, I'm quite taken with the concept of the ultra-wise innocent, who nonetheless kicks butt on the bad-guys because they're bad.

EmperorSteele is correct, no damage procs in my Sleep power, but Total Domination HAS no inherent damage and a Proc isn't going to break it. Meanwhile Hold and Recharge are desperately needed by that power, so it all makes sense.

The point about putting the ATO set into a power that will be used more often is absolutely valid, though and I could see putting it into Mesmerize instead. Then I could slot 4 Basilisk and a couple of Ghost Widow's into Mass Dom. and profit.

Argentae noted, accurately, that some of my powers are missing the critical 5th slot/enhancement and all I can say is, I'm only level 38 and I've put my slots and enhancements where I thought they were most needed at the time. When I get more slots to spend, I'll definitely be adding those! Just a matter of time and experience.

The big, remaining issue is those last 4 powers. What APP to chose? Psionics follows from the Mind aspect, but Dark could be cast as Dreams. Ice Mastery would follow from Storm, even Stone could be explained as a greater Manifestation of reality-warping power. Or I could dip over to the 'dark side' and sample the Patron Powers of the villains.

Does anyone have some sage advice about that?

  5. Okay, sometimes this character makes me feel Brilliant and others... well, I wonder what I was thinking... or what I was drinking, that made me think it was a good idea.

My experience shows that TA has a lot of what Illusion needs... soloing small groups of enemy is Cake! However, on larger groups and teams, I sometimes feel as if I have nothing useful to contribute, except Phantom Army... and Glue arrow... and Blind... and, Okay, all of my stuff is useful.

Anyway, I've reached level 22 and suddenly find myself wondering what to do next? Have I completely gimped myself, by not taking some critical power? Should I start the Fighting Pool? Or Leadership? Or Medicine? What should my goal be?

Ultimately, I want Phantom Army to be Permanent, or nigh so. My powers already cycle fast enough that Endurance Dysfunction is a threat, and I'm not even running S-Invisibility very often. So I know I need to make sure to slot EndRed and End Recovery.

Most of the time, I'm soloing on this server, but I plan to get involved with more TFs and larger group activities - I want to be effective! By the same token, I'm not looking to be the most 'leet' player around. At this time, I cannot USE a tricked-out L50 Purple ATO Incarnate build. Please limit yourselves to SOs and possibly one or two IOs, if I can find them on another character (yes, I have Many!).

  7. So, the main suggestions are to have a team and a solo build, rather than trying for 'one build to rule them all', and to build for Stealth, instead of using Pool Invisibility - since that is useless in combat. Then build up on Defense and... profit.

That certainly makes a different sort of Defender!

  8. So, about a year ago, I posted here asking for guidance on my Mind/Storm Controller and got some great stuff. Of particular value were notes on slotting Freezing Rain and Synergy between Gale and Terrify. Also, there was advice about Not skipping Thunder Clap... which made sense, but I couldn't get it to work well - possibly didn't try hard enough.

Time has flown and my little Dream Warrior has manifested awesome power. Now we move into the realm of APPs and final choices, and I just don't know how I want to go with it. So, more guidance, please!

Dreams and clouds and nightmares abound - is it all in your mind, or is there something else out there?

  9. This fellow is supposed to be a phantom, so he has Invisibility. He is intended for solo and team success in PvE content. Currently at level 32, the Build goes a little farther.

However, it is not complete and I'm not entirely sure what enhancements to shop for. I'm looking for advice and guidance that can carry me through the next 20 levels.

  19. Awesome to see that you are (still/back) in the game, Plasma. I thought I'd seen random posts by you, for a while.

As I've said before in this thread, my reasons for invoking your name are because your guide is so well written and, for a Free player, a Kheldian who is still Growing, or anyone else who is NOT using IOs (yet), your guide is still mostly valid. It's actually a bit of a peeve of mine, that most guides don't even bother with SOs anymore. It seems as if the presumption is that the reader is already level 50 and has a billion inf to spend, before they head off to their next iTrial.

As it happens, I have a level 24 (or so) Kheldian that I want to play tri-form. Not just that, but I want to play him tri-form Better than I have been and that means I need to build him well and then go out and Bash until I've got it down. How to shift form, When to shift form, Why to shift form - because I'm not used to it.

My best/favorite 'Kheldian' is a pure-human Peacebringer at level 38. With him, the 'fun' is in the Flexibility of being able to do a bit of everything, staying mobile, stick and move, punch the snot out of That Mob and then fade back to blasting. It's flexible, but at least all of my powers are right there, Available to be used. Playing tri-form requires an extra dimension of fluidity that I've not managed to acquire, yet.

So, I'd just like to say, with all of that going on, respectfully, sir, I do not have time, money, interest, or brain-power to deal with another exquisitely balanced IO-set extravaganza! IO builds are not designed for effectiveness or usefulness, but are made to take advantage of Bonuses and Procs and other things I can't use right now. I'm sorry to say, your builds are useless... to me... at this time. I really do want to revisit them later, when I'm... level 40, or so.

And that... conflict, has been a big part of the argumentation in this thread.

So, the build we have growing, here, is up to level 27, or so. I reflexively put in Combat Jumping - it has (or used to have) a wonderful stabilizing effect on Flight, as well as being a useful power for the ground-bound. Now I'm looking at it and wondering how useful it is for a Tri-Form Kheldian. Will we be spending enough (combat) time in human form to make it worth toggling on?

What powers should be taken at 28 and 30? Is this one of those places where personal choice and preference takes ahold? I see Glowing Touch, Quantum stuff, and lots of Power Pools that I might otherwise choose...

Hmm, so this really is the place to take just those sorts of situational powers. Which ones do you find most useful?

Does anyone have feedback for how to continue this build with SOs?

I'm sorry, Warbaby, but I'm going to have to send you back to the beginning of the thread. If you play well, you may be able to catch up again.

The point is to build from the latest post/word. It's a game of linguistic gymnastics. And some of us like to post links that help better explain our responses. And sometimes people play a bit lose with the... I hate to call them 'rules', but this would just turn into a 'post something random' thread, if there weren't some sort of unifying guidelines.

Your best answer would be to have posted a Homonym or Synonym of 'Bagpipe', but I admit, sometimes the thread hunts down into a cul de sac and heroic creativity is needed to get it back into something playable. And it helps, if the people playing the game Try to give the next player somewhere to go...

So, I'll take your dog link and:

Pastoral dogs are generally used to Herd.
