    plant/thorns

I'm sure you could make it work especially if you also take Hover, this might be too many power pools though. TP has the advantage of being able to get you out of trouble fast, and into trouble fast I suppose.

Carrion Creepers follows you around like a kind of pet-aura by the way so as long as it lasts it is where you are - you may not be able to see it but you can hear it when it's active (makes a kind of bubbling noise).

    Ice/Thorns?

I'm not making a big fuss, the reality is it still is the slowest to build domination which is not the same thing as saying it's slow.

The redraw is like having another attack which doesn't build domination, none of the other sets have this. I'm quite certain that Psi, Energy and Fire are noticeably faster at building Dom, I also don't think Thorns is cheaper in endurance than any of these, I'm sure it's less than Ice but that's about it.

I like Thorns for what it is but I don't think it's a crime to point out its shortcomings and appreciate the differences in the other assault sets.

    Ice/Thorns?

    [ QUOTE ]
Thorny Assault is pretty damn fast at building Domination due to it's cheapness of endurance and fast recharging attacks.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It's pretty damn slow. The fact that you have to constantly change between control powers and assault means that redraw builds up. Compare it with Psi or Energy and you will see the difference it makes. The domination build up in PvP is good because it's the assault powers *which hit* that give the big +8 domination boost, so Thorns is actually better in PvP for domination, but it's the slowest in PvE.

    Ice/Thorns?

Speaking just about Thorns - it's "interesting" but I'm not sure I'd recommend it easily, there are better assault sets to play I think.

Thorns has a few things that make it difficult -
    1) No really useful debuffs. (-Def)
    2) Slow at building Domination. (redrawing thorns makes it slow)
    3) No generally useful buffs. (it has Aim)

These things make it dangerous to play in both PvE and PvP, especially PvP where your life expectancy is a few seconds.

    Thorn positives:
    1) Aim - makes it very accurate - actually pretty useless in PvE but useful going up against high Def toons in PvP.
    2) DoT Toxic damage - not highly resisted and in PvP DoT is a plus (I think). Toxic makes up about 50% of your damage for some attacks.
    3) Some attacks have high -Def. For example according to Prima Impale has a -22.5% Def Debuff base for 15 seconds this can be pretty significant especially since it can be stacked with other -Def attacks. Impale is also generally useful in PvP but pretty much irrelevant in PvE.

All of this high accuracy and -Def is handy, but not in fact very useful generally and has zero defensive properties.

Compare this to Ice - huge -Recharge, Power Boost buff which will buff your heals and your mezz effects, both very effective all the time. Compare to Psi - again huge -Recharge, insanely fast to build domination because of fast attacks (in general) , a nice utility power in Drain Psyche and another control & damage in Subdue.

I chose Thorns entirely for the theme, my feeling is almost any other secondary is more generally playable. Ice/Ice and Ice/Psi has good -recharge synergy, Plant/Psi has Regen, Fire/Energy has some Stun matchup, Fire/Fire has big damage, Mind/Anything has great control.

    Stone/SS

For more damage at low put more damage slots into Mudpots, it's a killer. The low level SS attacks are just rubbish.

I came up with this (up to level 40):

  7. I'm interested but I'll only be level 45, plant/thorns Dominator.
  8. [ QUOTE ]
I'm still languishing on 41. It seems to be really hard to get teams at the moment at my level, and I'm not very good at soloing EBs.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I've found Shivans help with this. With domination, a shivan and the flytrap EBs are pretty much toast.

No HO, a badge short... but victory has never tasted quite as sweet. Great work, everyone.

    Slotting Holds?

    [ QUOTE ]
For Controllers and Dominators (whos holds has, unlike corrs/blasters, longer duration than recharge) u should think about why and who u want to hold. As i mentioned in a previous thread, some sets wont be able to stack 3 holds, and some can, and if u dont plan on penetrating mez-protections, recharge is better, but if u wanna hold Melee as well, go for duration.. in the end it comes down to what tactic and vision u are going for.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Death, you are repeating this same error - certainly for all Dominator sets the ST Holds have the same duration and recharge ie. 8 second recharge, 12 second duration base.
  11. Go Psi.
It fits your concept and works well for a dominator as far as I've tried it. Domination builds insanely fast, it has some great utility powers and I've had no problem with the damage output. Energy isn't as good for Doms as it is for some other ATs.
  12. [ QUOTE ]
I've some non-quality time coming up this weekend if you've not yet done this Filth.

Don't worry about the stalkers, just think of yourself as bait!

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Ah...non quality time 8)
I don't mind the stalkers when I'm teamed because then it's fun, soloing it when there's a pair of stalkers around is just tedious for me. The ones I come across probably wouldn't win a duel fighting with witting repartee either, although in this case I do fight liek a [bat]cow.

Any villains interested in blitzing Warburg to get the missiles?

I think a medium sized team would work best, I've just used all four on beating up my main man Scirocco so I'm all out. Anyone with +Per would be ideal since the problem for me in Warburg isn't heroes, it's the Stalker pukes attacking fellow villains.

Most evenings are ok for me, send a PM if you are interested in stocking up.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    4 missiles?

    [/ QUOTE ]

He was getting annoying - I went to Defcon 1.
  14. I've not had trouble with Mind Probe myself, but like Seriphos suggests Hero Stats is a good way to check it. I think you might be running into the Brute syndrome that because it's a big melee attack you notice it more when it misses - compare it with Psi Dart for example, which I spam all the time and misses a lot but I don't really notice that much - when Probe misses I think "drat" because I know it will do good damage.
  15. You simply haven't gone up against a claws Scrapper who has a clue, at some point you will.

    [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
Very amusing that people think Claws is bad for PvP. It's a good set for Stalkers & Scrappers.

    [/ QUOTE ]

sorry none of my squishy pvp toons are the least bit scared of claws. Claws scrappers dont hit hard, and they lack a good build up for pvp.

    [/ QUOTE ]
  16. Dr Death, all this info is wrong.

All Dominator single target Holds have a duration of 12 seconds, all same magnitude.

It seems to me in general Ice itself is one of the better sets for PvP, at least on paper, mostly for the insane amount of -Recharge it can generate.

    [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]

What's this about "better troller sets"? Are you saying Mind, Plant and Grav are better sets than Ice and Fire just because the AoE hold is ranged?

    [/ QUOTE ]

not at all, just referring to the fact that fire and ice only have 10 secs duration.. with SOs it looks like this:

20 sec duration / 8 sec recharge = 2.5 holds simultanously resulting in Mag 6 at most (not counting hasten, aux buffs, domination or aditional hold like AoE holds)

grav has 15 sec duration so with SOs:

30 sec duration / 8 sec recharge = 3.75 hold sim. resulting in Mag 9 at most (same conditions as before)

u wont hold a scrapper with mag 6, but u will with mag 9 in general... ofcourse combining hasten and AoE holds will change the stats, but according to my own play-style, i prefer good stats that is repetitional...(?) er.. im not english speaking a cycle that can be used repeatedly without temporary buffs.. meaning.. using ur single targetted hold, ie a gravity dom/troller can hold (if he hits and survive) a scrapper with 3 hits, and as previously mentioned, u cant perma in PvP (think ur immune to a new hold for 4 secs or something, but dont sue me if the number is incorrect) then u can easy re-stack the hold over and over again.. a fire troller cant.. he only has one chance then ie hasten runs out..

    [/ QUOTE ]

    We get Hami-Os?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    You get Synthi-Os.

You can use the pocket D buffs on villains as well now.
  19. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
just that u have a good toggle knock power and range

    [/ QUOTE ]

How does does toggle dropping work for Doms now anyway? I thought your toggles stayed up now once you got held.

    [/ QUOTE ]

No, it's like Essence says - there is one high level attack which has a 64% chance of dropping one toggle.

There's no change to how Holds work - a hold drops all toggles.

The change to building domination is that you get +8 domination points for every succesful assault power hit on an enemy player. This means that toggle dropping isn't such a big deal now for Dominators, since getting domination is more important.
  20. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
With the Issue 7 changes to domination in PvP Dominators are now extremely potent.

You have to play them very aggressively and choose power pools which will help keep you alive, if you manage to do that it is a powerful AT to play.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I would agrea with this.. Dom's are very potent killers in PvP.. make sure u get one of the better troller-sets tho.. whith grav, mind or plant u can easily perma hold any non-SR scrapper/stalker (u need 3 hits, and against SRs it might get tricky) and once domination is lit, ur a killing machine in the same level as tanks/brutes/blasters just that u have a good toggle knock power and range

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, this isn't really true, you can't perma hold anything in PvP although it's true you can pretty easily (at high level) do enough damage to a squishy during domination to KO it during a hold cycle, it's harder to do this with a tank or Scrapper. If you're facing heroes with an Empath you'll have a much, much harder time.

Blasters can 2 shot a Dominator, the reverse I haven't seen.

Dominators now have one pretty effective toggle dropper (only at high level), although building domination and then using control powers is now a much easier way to gain control.

Sounds good _Doc_ , but if damage is what you are after why didnt you rolled a corruptor instead !?

I know well that corruptors cant possibly hold an Elite Boss or even a boss...but still.

This is not an attack on you _Doc_ but it just seems that more and more forgets the main role of Dominators, namely crowd control.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Dominators are balanced between control and damage. During Domination they will out-damage most Corruptors. Playing them like a Controller doesn't make the most of them.
  23. There is one but you have to think of the TEAM as a whole, here is mine:

    [ QUOTE ]
Brute: Dark Melee/Stone Armour - DM is awesome in PvE, awesome in PvP 'nuff said, the heroes will 'fear you' :P. Stone - the roughest, toughest there is - what can hurt a mountain? nothing. What can a mountain hurt? nothing. What can move a mountain? nothing. says it all.

Corruptor: Assault Rifle/Traps - ever seen what FULL AUTO does to a Granite Tank? That you should see, what Full Auto does to a Granite Tank you should see; the thing shreds heroes. Traps - one word: Time Bomb. What is good in PvE becomes awesome in PvP, Traps is worth it for this one power.

Dominator: Gravity/Psionic - damage all the way. Your team manages to corner a difficult controller? slap on Dimension Shift - "game over dude" a good one for high damage teams. Psionic - Drain Psyche - fighting a Granite Tank again? if they've got no Endurance, they've got no toggles, it's like an 'I win' button for villains.

Mastermind: Necromancy/Traps - 'you cannot kill what does not truly live' good one if you like to stay at range. Traps - two words: Force Field Generator - possibly the best Mezz buff for villains in the game, especially if you have superspeed as a travel power.

Stalker: Ninja Blade/Regen - Ninja Blade was probably optimised for PvP and if you play with a Ninja Mastermind you can disguise yourself as a henchman - deception is your cheapest toggle :P. Regen - yes it's overpowered, yes you'll get complaints for using it from Heroes, but there's a reason it rules in PvP: head and shoulders above the other secondaries.

    [/ QUOTE ]
  24. I'm interested if there is space, Currently level 42 Dominator.

They make combined Unyielding and Unstoppable useless and virtually inexistant .

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's not quite true, although Invulnerability is easier to get through because of the low Def - Ice and Stone are harder because they have significant Def as well as mez resist.

It still takes me 3 consecutive domination Holds which hit to get through Granite, and if you know a Dom is running domination you can take pre-emptive action. Two or more Dominators are going to be more powerful, likewise an Empathy Defender will make a huge difference to a hero group.

As a squishy Dominator, it's quite interesting playing the "can I build domination before Scrapper kills me" game, unless that Scrapper is running Elude, in which case forget it.
