I suppose not, but I honestly don't see the problem with it. Then again, I've got a large widescreen monitor, so for me at least, it really doesn't take up much screen real estate. Also, there are no popup boxes reminding me to spend points if I have them, and every single menu doesn't invite me to use the store. I find it refreshingly discreet!

Quote:Except the game is perfectly FINE and indeed VERY GOOD without the Incarnate content. Has been for, oh, almost 7 years. I for one am a VIP who doesn't even LIKE the Incarnate content and rarely touches it.There is a line between 'game is good, I'll spend money on it' and 'game is only good if I spend money on it'.
It's the MMO equivelent of the DLC issue faced by single player games.
No, because Paragon is not responsible to "make good" on your erroneous "impressions." -

Anyone else having an issue between Sentinel and Mids uploading builds? I went to go copy my two /Time corruptors to Mids and thought I could save some time by just uploading them with Sentinel, but it didn't work - all I got was Fly chosen at level 4 and no other powers or slots picked.

The button really is pretty small and unobtrustive. If you want an "IN YOUR FACE CONSTANTLY" store interface, try LOTRO. :P

Quote:The exit is RIGHT NEXT to the entrance. It's BRIGHT GREEN and glowing.Mission oen sent me into a rage. First off the damn boss and his awful holds made me angry, then the 'Nao run noob haha!' bulldish, and then i get to the door only to be told 'lolololno door 4 joo!' - I run back into the cave to look adn Im faceplanted by the igneous.
AWFUL!

I don't understand how people can't find the thing. -
Quote:That mission is BS top to bottom. Those mobs are drastically overpowered for no good reason. All Resistance members, Minion and upwards, all have the Mind-washed Confusion effect from the BAF iTrial.
As if that wasn't bugged enough, where the hell do these guys get off having stealth that they can attack you from without revealing themselves? NO other mob in the game does that! That's not a challenge, that's 'have a power with +Perc or tons of yellows or get ready for an exercise in frustration'. -
You're the best! Party in your honor!

Oh my god are we making ANOTHER one of these threads??
-
Quote:Because saying "Golden Girl said so!" is totally worthless? She spams every thread, very rarely with useful information, and is not a dev.Since people seem to be ignoring this post, it seems worthwhile to quote it.
Quote:Umm, no. The actual chain of events has been posted in this thread, and Arcanaville posted the entire sequence in detail here. -
Quote:Actually, you did.Oh did I now? I suggest you go back and read my posts. Not once did I "extrapolated a behavior to the majority with no evidentiary support". Go back and please point out where I did that. You cant because I didn't. I pointed out what I did. That I was adding to the player base on the red side and that would never had happened if there wasn't a reason to swap over. Just because you two blow through tips on -1 doesn't mean everybody does. In fact that sounds mind numbingly boring. I enjoy playing the game like it was designed to be played, as a MMO on a team.
Bolding mine. See what you did there? -
Quote:I would be totally and completely cool with this. What we need here is a compromise solution. Add a single contact blue-side with a starting availability at 40th. Say a ranking Wyvern officer, perhaps the guy Manticore put in charge of day to day operations while he's off mentoring newbies like the Shining Stars, hitting on his wife, or getting his **** stomped in the LRSF. Have his offer a 3-5 mission arc, of similar difficulty to the current patron power unlock arcs, where your character goes into the rogue isles to swipe a series of important props from the various factions. Red coral, a case of non-biometricly encoded Arachnos maces, some ancient Mu artifact, and/or a dark spiritual ritual totem, all culminating with your daring escape back to Paragon and a climatic battle with Arbiter Unger.
Thus the patron pools are still something to work for on both sides of the line, but don't require the heroes to go through the whole "fall and redemption" process that their villainous counterparts are exempt from. -
Quote:You can do the same thing here. Drop $12 for an IO license, AE license and AH license for 2 months. Play as much as you want, buy some consumables or some costume pieces, then leave. You don't get the Incarnate system, but you get pretty much everything else, and for less than a month's sub. How are you not further ahead in this system? You don't have to drop money on zones, or quest packs, or anything that in any way impedes you from playing the game from 1-50.The hybrid model doesn't usually run that way. Usually everything is available for free to play players for a lump sum price and this works out very very favourably to the company. Most people aren't lifers when it comes to a MMO, they stay for a few months tops. The F2P model is designed to milk as much money out of them as possible during their short stay and it works wonderfully.
I for one am very susceptable to the Hybrid model, I think "yay, a hundred bucks now and I'll never have to pay again!" two months down the road, I have no intentions of ever playing again and I have dropped $100 when I could have got the same value for $30.
NCSoft obviously is taking a different route and that is their choice to make, I'm just not sure there is any wisdom to it but I for one am happy they chose to take the path less travelled.
Also, I love your avatar - everytime I see it I feel compelled to smile! -
Quote:Okay, I am unaware of this, I don't play redside. It's not 'convenient' for Villains at all, it's frustrating. For a long time they just had one pool only then the patrons were unlocked wholesale and there was still the ever-present disparity of having no ancillaries automatically. And in those fights? E-Bs aplenty that not everyone can handle solo and powers that only the mission holder gains access to.
So Villains/Rogues still have to jump through hoops, they just don't have to side-switch to get through the first one.
Are you saying villains actually have to unlock APPs?
If so, that's rubbish as well. Let everyone have ALL the APP/PPPs available to them without having to do ridiculous acrobatics! -
Quote:You know, this... THIS... is SUCH a good point. And though it's true that my Vet status cost a lot of money over the years, it was money I happily handed over in return for the privilege of playing the game at the time. I don't deserve anything now for having paid that money; it's nice that I've gotten some rewards, but Paragon/NC didn't owe them to me.
Whatever we paid in the past, for expansions or for our monthly access... we got the GAME in exchange for it! We've gotten to play and enjoy the game! That's been what we paid for!
Some people are acting like, for the past 7 years, they've just been holding our credit cards hostage while they siphoned (very slowly) the money out of it and we just stood there getting nothing but possible future consideration as veterans of the game!
Seriously? Have you not ENJOYED the game you've been paying for? Why are you owed more than that - which is what you were actually paying for?
...and on that note, if you DID pay for the game and didn't enjoy it or play it? You are stupid and I feel no pity for you. -
Quote:Well demon summoning goes with MMs... but really? Preems don't get DP?Also, if you previously bought GR and aren't a VIP you no longer have access to Demon Summoning or Dual Pistols. With the incarnate system there's at least the argument that it wasn't technically part of GR, but those powersets were. That, I think, is a little ridiculous.

Quote:So err. When I played the OTHER hybrid-pricing game which you listed in your post, then that WASN'T shiny penny syndrome... but the game I've been playing for the last 7 years is? I um...Week one, shiny penny syndrome, spending does not a profitable long term system make. And this current system is not going to be profitable without some heavy tweaking to the pricing structure.
Comparisons to other F2P games are inherently flawed because most of them were still young games, by comparison, when they went F2P. A lot of them still had some buzz going around about them (to-wit: DDO, CO, even LOTRO). This one is ancient in terms of game age and general "buzz" about this game died off long ago, except amongst the subscribing members.
There's little in the market I would buy at their prices and even less I would buy repeatedly. And I'm not stingy in the slightest, just ask Microsoft and Sony who have made entirely too much money off of me in the micro-transaction market. There's too many items with ridiculous prices, too few consumables worth the small price, let alone buying multiple times, and too much reliance on "buy once and done per account".
But the system just launched, so I have faith that Paragon will be monitoring the prices and adjusting them until they reach a profitable price scale.
Yeah. What.
I don't personally buy consumables. I won't do it. I don't like it. They will get me to heck and back with costumes, powersets (I bought Beam Rifle and I have no concept for it in the least... but heck, it was on sale, so if I DO think of something? I got it!) and global unlocks. They got me for allll those things. But they're one-time purchases.
Consumables? Nope. I play the game just fine without them, thanks!
So as long as CoX keeps coming out with costumes and powersets, I will keep buying them. And I'll keep subscribing because I want content but I won't buy it in dribs and drabs (dunno why - I refused to buy a single zone or quest pack in the other games, and I won't do it here) I just want the whole thing without a fuss.
Quote:It's fun to do it with several friends on rollerblades too - you can make like a train by holding onto the waist of the person in front of you
Quote:The fact remains: Need to buy X in order to get to Y does not mean that buying X means you are also buying Y. It just means there's no way to get Y without buying X. Necessary and sufficient conditions are not the same thing!
Because I buy a CD player in no way entitles me to the "content" (CDs) that play on that machine. I just now have access to a thing that will play them. If I buy them. -

Quote:I'm unhappy with a lot of them too. That doesn't mean I think the game's going to crash. The history of this kind of hybrid model is a big BOOST in monetary input for the studio, not a decrease. I played another game that went F2P in almost this same way (a search of my posts would make it clear which one) and despite the fact I think it was HORRIBLY implemented and have never spent a dime on it since it happened, profits went way up.Sai's not happy with some of the Paragon Market prices so he/she's been all about the dooooooooooooom.
I think Freedom was implemented in a very good way, and I've already dropped almost $100 on the game since it went live, even though I think lots of the prices are out of whack. :P -
Quote:What makes you think that's going to happen? That way the next time NCSoft-Korea holds a business meeting and starts to ask Mr. Miller questions about players leaving the game; about the lack of sustained sales in the Paragon Market; or why there was a sudden drop-off in VIP's; Mr. Miller has a nice set of print-outs on hand detailing what the players think and said.

Quote:Um, what? Everyone who is now a VIP has access to GR content AND the Incarnate system, even if they did not purchase GR originally.Incorrect you have going rogue installed either way, you can only access the content if you've purchased it.
Maybe you should look up what those actually mean and get back to me.
Quote:So, if GR was the gating system, and you had to have it installed...
That means, if you didn't have GR, you couldn't get Incarnates.
Meaning you HAD to have GR to get Incarnates.
Meaning, ergo, that people who bought GR were effectively buying entry to the Incarnate system. Because there was NO other way to get it.
You bought ACCESS to the Incarnate system by buying GR. But the system ITSELF was not included in GR.
Also, if you look at the box, it states "additional online fees required" right at the bottom. Check out the Architect Edition cover that Snow Globe just posted.
So the devs have decided that the gating system is no longer "must purchase GR" (because everyone who subs got free access to GR) but "must be a subscriber." And it's been posted all over the place, so anyone who doesn't know that by now doesn't deserve much sympathy.
Quote:There is no functional difference. You still need the Satellites to make use of the GPS. Ergo, you HAVE to get GR to use Incarnates. That's like saying a key and a steel door are two different things when, without the key, you're not getting through that door any other way.
Quote:I have to agree. My high level characters all have IO's and in order to get an Invention Licence it would cost 105$ per character to get access to the Invention System. Or 2$ per month per character until i've spent 400 dollars to have access to IO's. I can't even respec to get rid of them and put in SO's because i would lose all the IO's that don't fit in my enhancement slots. So, I probably wont be coming back. I wish you COH/COV dev's all the luck in the world, but for now, I think outta here. Bye -
Quote:Yes, indeed. Some people do not.I HAD TO BUY GR TO USE INCARNATES, THERE FOR I HAD TO BUY INCARNATES,NOT SUBSCRIBE TO ACCESS THEM, BUY THEM.
So simple some people just don't get it.
You had to have GR installed to ACCESS Incarnates.
Yet incarnates DID NOT RELEASE with GR. They were not PART of GR. GR was the gating system which allowed you to access it. -
Quote:Why would we want that to happen? The dev's ****** up, what they said would happen didn't. It happens some times, though if enough people point it out then they might give access to the Alpha slot, which was part of GR at least until once again the devs ****** up.
If preems want access to incarnates THAT BADLY (and I can tell you that many of them don't - I've got at least 6 people coming back with ZERO interest in it) then they can pay. Just like they had to before. Then the game gets money to keep going.
How is this not desirable?
