Quote:There's some evidence that GW2 was pushed into releasing before it was ready to do so. It fits with a lot of the launch issues, the crush of stress-tests right up until the days before launch, and the rushed shuttering of PS. NCSoft may be suffering from a more severe issue than we're aware. That may make them more likely to seize any reasonable offer for the game. That's the $1,000,000 question though. The last financial report was just as Blade and Soul hit in Korea (much less before GW2 hit here). How have they been doing at repaying the investment? Especially with B&S, I've not heard a peep.
Quote:Two major gaming companies have placed ''testing'' bids.
^ NCSoft Representatives have not organized anything for this yet.
Financial upstarts are monitoring spike increase.
Domain stats are being looked at by NCSoft.
*Some* proposals are going to be heard.
As of now nothing is set in of stone.
Keep eyes open for news!

about? Because Smedley says Sony did NOT make a bid. So how about you stop with the cryptic hints and come out and say if you actually know anything? -
Linked to Wil Wheaton on G+, hopefully he can spread some of his nerd culture media magic around for us!

Quote:According to your link, voting ended on August 31...I think we all know who should win the above category in this poll.
I'm just disappointed that CoH wasn't represented in other categories. Will have to see if we can rectify that by burying the support@guildlaunch.com email with input... seeing as they ask for it.

I would never delete my babies!
Heck, I've got a 3-ring binder of MIDs build printouts for all my characters. That baby's going on a shelf when the game goes down. -
Only someone fairly clueless about the MMO market and GW2 in specific would say something like this so... /shrug.

Quote:I love COH - and in fact, loved it for two years longer than you, sir. I was here when I1 hit.Buy whatever the hell you want. It's a semi free country.
But don't tell me you love COH.
And it IS all about revenge. I want to see NCSoft burn for this.
I'm not delusional enough to think somehow they will see reason and sell the game to someone or give out the code. That is not their MO.
They give a big middle finger to the COH community, I'm giving them two back.
Go on and enjoy GW2 while it lasts. I'll be the one laughing when thewy shut it down.
I mourn its passing and am actively trying to save it.
I love GW2 and I'm playing it.
You go ahead and don't play GW2. I'm glad to not have you there. -
Quote:Me too. There were a ton of costumes, powersets and character slots that I purchased solely because of customization. Thanks to customization, I could have my "water blast" character long before that powerset came out, using Radiation. I could have a character using Pattern powers with blue-tinted Psychic powers. There were a LOT of things like that, that allowed me to make the character *I* wanted that the game's literal powersets didn't support. Thanks for the info, BaBs. Good to have you peeling back the curtain.
Edit - I should add, that while Power Customization may not have made new money, it sure kept me playing longer. So, NC probably got several hundred dollars extra from us, due to being able to realize so many more characters.
So from me, thank you greatly, BaB. Here's one person it DID affect, who DID throw money at your feet for it -
I put a note on the Kill Ten Rats blog about COH shutting down. Hopefully they'll help spread the word a bit more.
-
Does anyone have any contact with Penny Arcade or Nostalgia Critic? I bet they'd help spread the word.

Yes!! Much love to the MIDS people, they made my OCD enjoy the game

Quote:No, dude. The rest of your rant can stand, but this is BS.And something funny and disturbing: The same day Paragon Studios is given the boot, Anet perma-bans a large number of GW2 accounts (3 days after launch) for exploiting a bug in the game. From reports I've seen in comments on MMORPG.com and other places, at least 3,000 accounts or more were banned. The cherry on top of the cake? Anet isn't even admitting they made a mistake in the game! They are going to be "nice" about it by unbanning accounts and giving players a 72 hour suspension instead. The stipulation for getting your account back? Admit that you violated the rules, promise to delete all in game currency and items you obtained through the bug in the game. And Anet warns "Once you have done so, we will lower your ban to 72 hours, and following your re-activation we will check your account to make sure that you have honored your commitment. If that commitment is not honored, we will re-terminate the account." The problem? Some players may not have realized they were exploiting a bug (that should have NEVER happened in the first place), and some players may have been banned by accident. For those banned by accident, if any and I'm sure there were at least a few, the players have to admit to doing wrong when they may not have even known.
http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/c...apons_exploit/
(some comments on MMORPG.com people were saying they are now paranoid that they may get their GW2 account perma-banned for an exploit they had no idea was even there)
The exploit WAS AN EXPLOIT. Hugely. And there was NO WAY to "accidentally" perform the actions that were causing people to be banned.
There was a vendor selling high-end weapons for 21 currency instead of 21,000. It was obvious and right there in the vendor. He went from 94,000, 74,000 and then 21. It was an obvious mistake.
People bought THOUSANDS of these weapons, and used an in-game item transmuter to roll the dice, creating THOUSANDS of super-rare items that were flooding the game market on its first week out the door, which would have completely destroyed balance and the game's economy.
And instead of just letting that stand, the way EVERY other MMO company that I've ever played under has done, leaving the people who play honestly in the dust of cheaters, Anet took action to protect the rest of us.
In addition, Anet is giving people a 72 hour ban for using hate speech in public channels, cursing people out, abusing them, calling things "gay" or "retard" in a derogatory way. Because they're PROTECTING their game and their customers in a way that NO other MMO company I've ever played under has EVER bothered to do, despite the code of conduct we all sign to be allowed into the games.
So no. That one doesn't get to stand. Anet DOES care about their customers. I for one have been protected by them in a number of ways - because the people they're banning are botters, RMT spammers, racist/homophobes and cheaters. And I'm ALL FOR those people getting thrown out on their *****. -
Quote:If anyone can do it, Titan network can, that much I believe.
If not, I suggest getting as many of the dev team together with them to do a kickstarter and make a new company/IP under the Titan Network banner.
Call it "Titan City"Quote:To heck with getting the IP from NCSoft.
City of Heroes is/was a wonderful game, but why spend a lot of money just for the sake of bringing back specific NPCs and locales?
Instead of spending money on purchasing pre-existing intellectual property, put ALL the cash into developing a completely NEW franchise. Let's face it, the Paragon Studios team could do it... and do it fairly easily since they're all used to working together.
Purchase/Lease a new engine to run the whole thing in... but this time they will KNOW what they need for upgrades/capabilities from what problems they've been dealing with for the past decade. With proper financial backing, the team could create a completely NEW game.
In fact... I'll submit my resume right this second for that team...
Even if they wouldn't hire me as a writer/character developer... I'd happily accept a position as QA... heck... JANITOR...
Playing COH style in a modern game engine would be PHENOMINAL. Heck, running around GW2 I can't help but continually think how amazing it would be if the COH art and assets were updated and ported into this smooth engine.
The main distinctive parts of CoH that we all love - the missions, the walled cities, the powersets and the huge costume designer - all of those could be ported to this "Titan City" project without infringing on CoH.
I'd be there. With frelling bells on. -

Quote:The only blame I'm parceling out to people is for their own words, Mr. Incoherence. That another flagship of that publisher , has to take the blaim is the publishers own fault !
Do not blaim it back on the consumers !
Sorry you cannot do that anymore , we been trough this a long time .
And lies are being so transparent , it is not even funny anymore .
So those investing into GW2 congrats , you just made a bad investment !
Since the owner of that game how great the game might be , can pull such stunt anytime !
That is not acceptable to do business with ! -
Quote:You're free to not buy it for any reason you want - though I disagree with your premise, GW1 was no more a terrible game than CoH was, like CoH, it was pretty unique as a game and catered to a small, loyal base who liked the style of the game and not all the WoW-clones that have come out since. Can we just avoid buying it because it's a sequel to a terrible game, with no other motives?
But seriously, shame on all you people hoping GW2 fails, closes down, crashes and burns, etc. Seriously.
Wishing death on someone else's game just because someone torched this one is crap. How about you have a little consideration for those of us who adored CoH and also adore GW2 and don't want EITHER of them ended. :-/ -
Quote:Stupid. That doesn't make your point at all. Also, for those who want ammunition for the "They shuttered CoH for their servers" argument:
http://techland.time.com/2012/08/29/...me-experience/
GW2 isn't shutting down sales because it's run out of servers. They had TWICE this many servers running during beta. They HAVE servers. They released only a limited amount in an attempt to control and balance population, so you don't have what you usually have in an MMO release, which is several very crowded servers, and a bunch of ghost-town servers that get worse and worse as the initial rush wears off. Since WvWvW is actually a very important part of their game design, keeping the server populations roughly even is actually a very important QOL point for the game.
They're shutting down sales because they're having infrastructure problems and want the game to be stable for the people who ALREADY paid for the game before they let it ramp up any further. And it will, because it's a great game.
Also this. -
No it isn't, Techbot. :-/ You're free not to want to play it, but don't spread outright untruths about it. I played WoW for 3 years, I've been playing GW2 for about 6 months (through betas) and it is FAR from "trying to be WoW." SWTOR was in fact closer to WoW than GW2 is.
-
I was playing GW2 and someone in map chat told us. A lot of us were upset - I flat-out called that person a liar and a troll because that was IMPOSSIBLE, my husband was JUST talking about buying BioArmor and re-rolling one of his oldest characters.
Then there was a huge general mourning and protesting storm in map chat when we all windowed out and found it was true -
Quote:I don't think I can./this.
I'm sure I'll be in game, especially that last day...
Right now, though, it feels like going to a funeral.
I think I'll log in, take some fraps of my favorite places and characters (flying!!) but I just don't think I can PLAY.
And I don't think I can be there for the last day. I want to. I really do. But I just don't think I can. It'll be like standing there while something beautiful dies. I just can't.
God, when I think how excited we all were when they finally added CAPES into the game....
My husband and I have been completely bummed out all day. We started playing CoH together while we were dating in college. Well, actually, HE started playing, then convinced me to make a character on his account, I stole his account and he had to buy another one. Anyway. We've been moping all day. It feels like finding out a dear friend has terminal cancer.
I just can't. -
-
I'll be in GW2. 2 of my CoH characters are already there (they can move between dimensions, natch, so why not?) and I'll be RPing it up on Tarnished Coast which, like Virtue long ago, was voted the "unofficial RP server."
If you see a Trillium of Amber or a Seven of Cups go by, give me a wave and sit down for some RP! -
Aww, Michelle. You were one of the first people I thought of when this went down.
Whatever you make, I'm sure it will be a fitting tribute to this marvelous game, and your own marvelous talent. -
