Heh! I wasn't sure if you meant Guardian, or Elementalist (since that's the closest "caster class" that might match up to CoH Defendering)

BTW, in regards to you being hacked, here's what Anet posted today in their daily update:

    Quote:
    Account Security

Hackers have lists of email addresses and passwords stolen from other games and web sites, and collected through spyware, and are systematically testing Guild Wars 2 looking for matching accounts. To protect yourself, use a strong, unique password for Guild Wars 2 that you've never used anywhere else!

    Customer Support

Our customer support team is prioritizing hacked accounts and other blocking login issues over other types of support requests. If you submit a support ticket for a hacked account, ensure it is properly prioritized by following these instructions. We have now completed prioritized requests submitted prior to Sunday, September 2. If you have an older ticket for a hacked account or blocking login issue that has not been completed, that means it's not correctly prioritized. Submit a new ticket using the above instructions, and in the title write, "Blocking Login - Ticket submitted <date> - Ticket number xxxxxx-xxxxxx" (fill in the date and ticket number of your existing ticket), and we will prioritize your existing ticket.

    Email Authentication

Once you validate your account email address, we help protect you from attempted account hacking (even if the hacker guesses your password) by sending you an email every time you attempt to login from a new location, asking you to approve or deny the login attempt. Keep in mind, if you receive an email asking you to approve or deny a login attempt and you didn't make that login attempt, that means a hacker knows your password. Change your password immediately. Be sure not to flag an email authentication message as spam; if you do, your email provider may prevent future email authentication messages from reaching you. If email authentication is preventing you from logging in, contact our customer support team following these instructions and we'll disable it for your account.
So hopefully they can sort you out soon! Feel free to look me up if you're playing on Tarnished Coast!

    Yup.

Here's Anet's posting on it as of today's (Tuesday's) daily update:

Which CoH did the MMO thing right, these new ones are not.

Its new and exciting, so yeah its going to be sold. I mean it looks beautiful.
And the pvp is done very well as it needs skill. It will eventually end up like Guild Wars 1 did after awhile. Just my opinion of course.
I've played most of the new MMOs that have come out in the last couple of years, for at least the free month, and you're quite wrong. It's a sequel, not a copy. It has a lot of new mechanics that "fix" a lot of the problems that Everyone-Copy-WoW-itis brought to the MMOsphere.

The community of a one-week old game will of course not be very close O.o However, lots of people/guilds have been following the game for a long time and have created some welcoming communities which will, one hopes, spread as the game ages. I know I've gotten to take part in some very fun RP with total strangers.

The game is very player-friendly, in a way other MMOs are not. You can't killsteal/tag other people's mobs. You don't hurt their xp by buffing or healing or helping them kill things. You can't steal other people's resource nodes. You can't steal other people's quest glowies. You can't steal other peoples' loot chests. EVERYONE in an area is welcome to participate in everything that's going on. That's FAR from a solo person's game - just because you're not grouped doesn't mean you're not part of the "group" around you. It's a very different mechanical system in that way.

And here on the official GW2 Wiki site, although it says nothing about accounts being hacked it gives a good impression that there is in fact a big problem with account security.

Game status updates from August 29-Sept. 3 http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Game...ates/Archive_1
And the most recent status update http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Game_status_updates (Sept. 5, same exact info as what's in the archive for August 29-Sept. 3) No info other than the same exact message over and over with each update: Ways to protect your account, getting in touch with support, etc.

Edit: Official announcement from ArenaNet about GW2 dated August 29, the day AFTER the game officially launches:
    http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/c...day_august_29/

It may not be from the press. Even better. Straight from the source: ArenaNet themselves.
This is a willful misinterpretation of what's being said. Accounts are being hacked, but NOT from within Anet's system. People are culling email addresses and passwords from other games, from gaming forums, from game mail websites, etc, and then just rolling random passwords to try and get in. Anet has been locking accounts to protect them, and answering tickets as quickly as they can. People HAVE been getting their accounts back, don't lose hope!

Yeah, the "botting" they're talking about is standing next to certain dynamic events that are almost constantly triggered with something heavy on the 1 key so they can afk-farm the events :P And they're banning people for the botting, isn't that what you WANT them to do?

    No.

I'm saying that going out of your way to hurt Anet isn't going to help Paragon. And you attacking other members of this community doesn't help, either.

And that blaming Anet makes as much sense as blaming Paragon. They're both studios that published under NCSoft, with their funding.

But you have never EVER ONCE seen me defend NCsoft or say that NCsoft didn't do a terrible, stupid, awful, unwise, cruel, callous, idiotic thing.

Wild is right. Why even make stuff up and post it? Seriously?

Did they admit they made a mistake and promise to be more careful so they didn't have to ban people again? Hell NO.
Again, you are ignorant. HELL YES.

    "Hello,

In the coming hours, we will be restoring account access to those who were suspended for exploiting the bugged vendor prices for the Norn Cultural weapons. Not everyone will have access restored right away. In some cases we are awaiting more information from the player, and some appeals are still coming in. We will address each appeal as quickly as we can.

We’d like to remind everyone that we do not seek to punish, and any time a drastic measure like this is taken, it is taken to maintain the health and integrity of the game. As we reinstate these accounts, we expect everyone who appealed to honor their commitment to destroy all illegitimate gains, whether those are crafting items, currencies, or the weapons themselves. To remove currencies, making a purchase of appropriate value and destroying that purchase will suffice.

We would also like to acknowledge that we are not free from blame. In a game this big, problems inevitably occur that are difficult to locate , and moving forward we will continue to address these issues in a timely, communicative and efficient manner. What constitutes an exploit, and what has resulted in these suspensions, is using a flaw in the game to gain an unfair advantage over other players that is clearly not in line with the design of the game. Please remember, opportunity does not equal permission.

We also understand that sometimes the consequences of such an exploit may not be clear or apparent. In these cases, try to think about how the actions of one player can affect the millions of other players, or the in-game economy as a whole. In your appeals, many of you stated that you only purchased large quantities of weapons to use for personal gain and not for profit. Such an act devalues the time and effort put forth by every other player who opts not to take advantage of an exploit. We will be publishing a FAQ on exploits soon.

On the subject of your appeals, most of you expressed understanding for the decisions that we made. For that, we are deeply appreciative. Going forward, we will strive to maintain only the highest of standards for the game and the community, and we ask that you do the same.

As one player noted in his appeal, we have the opportunity to work together to forge a legendary MMO experience and that is not something we take for granted. If you encounter any other bugs or anything suspicious in game, please feel free to report it by typing "/bug" in-game, or by sending an e-mail to exploits@arena.net.

All of that said, on behalf of ArenaNet and NCsoft, we’d like to extend a sincere welcome back to Tyria. Let's all have some fun.

Regards, The Guild Wars Support Team"

Seriously, is it so hard to do a little research before you slander?

The GW2 hacks are the result of aggressive goldfarmers, and email lists culled from other games, resulting in password changes by using legitimate customer emails, and people who are phished and are stupid enough to click a link in an email. It is NOT a result of poor security on Anet's part, but they are adding an authenticator to the account options ASAP.

Anet is also not linking your Anet/GW2 account with your NCsoft account. I was surprised by that when I registered, expecting to link them up, but nope. My GW2 account cannot be access from my NCsoft account page.

You know, maybe this isn't the case, but it feels like maybe our reaction helped inspire the studio to fight. A lot of the farewell posts seemed so resigned - I hope the fact that they know how much we want them here, how much the game means to us, how much we're willing to fight for them, helped give them more morale in their fight for us

Do you think larger "Giant Monsters" would not be a thematic improvement?

Or are you mostly against the suggestions I made regarding enhancements?
I think enhancements are fine they way they are. The only thing I'd drop is TOs, and change the level spread on DOs, but there are many people in this game who NEVER wanted anything to do with the IO system and played the game quite happily on SOs. Letting people play the game the way they want is a cornerstone of what made COH work.

In-game group finders kill community. Making it so you click a button and are auto-joined to a bunch of strangers in the instance of your choice completely destroys any group dynamic. This is true of the other games that have implemented it, and is even true of our own event finder. The making of even a token effort to TALK TO other people, join a group by responding to someone looking for peeps, join an SG to have people to group with, etc, BUILDS community.

The chat system in COH, the multiple custom channels and globals, was and is awesome and should be maintained, but outside channels? No thanks.

Over-scale all the enemies and it would pale pretty quickly. Rare giant monsters like Jack and the Monster Island were great, but I wouldn't want them overused, they'd become tedious.

To be completely honest? I honestly feel like this would be the best solution.

Of course, I'm absolutely in favor of saving what we have NOW, keeping the community together, keeping the game afloat.

But to be frank, the game is old. And looks it. The mechanics are fabulous, character creation unrivaled, sidekicking, base building, mission creator, the enhancement system - all unique and wonderful. But they're clunking along with a frankly often-ugly graphic set in a very old engine.

I'd love to not ONLY save this game now, but see someone working on a successor game that would be more modern and actually ATTRACT new players.

I can't help playing GW2, looking at the beautiful graphics, the wonderful character customization (yes, not like COH, you can't pick your outfits and you have to use loot, but being able to sculpt my character's face exactly how I wanted instead of using one of the blurry pre-mades was GOLD!) the fluid movements and engine and all I can think is - DAMMIT I WANT COH TO BE IN THIS ENGINE AND GRAPHICS!

    False Hope

The only false hope I've seen anyone give is the whole chinese-fortune-teller act we're getting in some of the threads that have so far amounted to bunk.

But the media campaign? That's not false hope. All that's trying to do is raise awareness, and since the word IS getting out there, then that's a success.

The programming work the Titan folks are doing to at least put up an emulation of the game? That's not false either. They are hard at work.

So really, put your shoulder to this stone with us and start rolling, or at least stand back and pass out water.

I have not seen ANYONE defend NCSoft, NOT ONE. Please link me to ANYONE saying that it was a good thing!!!

I have seen people search for the REASONS NCSoft cut PS, because the more we know THAT, the more we can tailor our rescue efforts. If it was purely a financial move, then we have a better shot at them being willing to sell it.

But we also want to be REASONABLE about this, because getting emotional and hysterical aren't going to help ANY of us at this point. Spreading lies and rumors are only going to hurt people in the long run.

  23. Question - do we have to actually log into the characters to extract them?

Because folks who paid month-to-month (like my hubby and I) can't turn our VIP'ness on and can't unlock all of our characters at this point to log into them even for posterity screenshots
