In relation to the Vanguard pieces, the mothership raids are the fast track to getting all of them and then looking for temp powers to waste VanMerits on. On both Shekinah Oldsoul and Praetorian Grey, I ended up with all of the costume pieces after the fourth or fifth mothership raid, after that is just to get Heavies for those particularly epic battles.
But I second wanting Resistance costume pieces. -
Yeah, this is just one of those things, like when I screwed up and started the Ambassador Kur'Rekt story arc on Praetorian Grey... Who despite being very different from Lady Grey, would pretty much in-character prefer snapping his genetically enhanced neck rather than do his missions (She has a rather ruthless outlook on the Rikti).
Or how Ectsacy of Gold would in-character happily face down Recluse and all three of his lieutenants and the prospect of certain and painful death rather than stop Scirocco at the end of the hammer of the World arc...
Sometimes you gotta just finish the arc and pretend you never started it for in-character continuity. Both of them will be switching from full villain to rogue ASAP.
Interestingly, the Rogue doesn't seem to find these same kinds of snags working with the contacts of Paragon City as much as the Vigilante who deals with the Islanders... -
Ncountered this one last night. When you're dancing at a club and realize that you're doing one of the CoH dance emotes... And then you notice all the other people who are basically copying other emotes usually seen in the Pocket D.

Well, My Warshade is Vodoun. Her Kheldian half was forced to merge with a newly dead body, which was so traumatic that it essentially labotomized the alien consciousness. The body is driven around by the fragments of her human personality which believes that she has been resurrected by a Loa to right the wrongs around her.
My Peacebringer is "Feign's Player"... And yeah, I don't really have a backstory to him, he's just who I use when I wanna be myself. (his human form looks as close to the real me as the character creator could manage) -
I had it slotted in in Tactics on my blaster and loved it there when I'd every now and then get that "lucky shot" where I feel like I randomly hit the enemy right in the eye.
I would kind of have to wonder where else in the build you could put the thing that it would get better than a ten-second cycle time... -
Quote:*raises hand* Guilty!when you're watching tv and you reach for the mouse to adjust the camera angle to get a better view... and are confused for a moment when nothing happens.
(our tv and our computer use the same wall projector)
Every time I see a screenshot from the game I instinctively try to use the mouse to look around. -
1) I have ridiculous alt-itis, and switched "home" servers due to SG drama back before it was possible to move a character from one server to another, so it kind of prevented me from keeping my main through the entire time. The closest to that (my first fifty, which I do still play with quite a bit) is my Illusions/Sonic/Psi Mastery Controller who is pretty much optimized for running (flying) around the Shadow Shard.
2) Well, answer to 1 answers this pretty well... I have Altitis bad, Reeeeal bad. It's amazing that I do ever run my 50 around with as many lower characters as I've got. (Though, I do have a newer Stalker at 50, pretty much to unlock the awesomeness of the VEATs)
3) Favorite build is fast becoming my Ranged-AoE specialized Bane Spider, with the power to be more blaster than an actual blaster. I would have rolled him as a Crab spider, but too many of the Crab powers overlap the SMG powers (as in, they are mutually exclusive) and I have too much love for stealth. -
Quote:Well, that answered my question thoroughly and politely, thanks!Depends I guess on what you want.
You want a guy who can just make a spawn go bye bye in like, 2 moves? Elec/Sheild... BuildUp/SC/LR... it's all dead. You'll have to deal with the next spawn without your 2 heavy hitters, or you can stager them, but basically, what you have here is the king for AoE aplha striking.
Now, if you just want, constent, 24/7, AoE madness, youd prolly roll a Spine/Dark, Fire, or now Elec. You get 2 Damage auras, spineburst, and thowspines, ready for each and every spawn.
So, it's either Spines, or Elec (IMO). Frankly, i find Spines more effective, and easier to use. The damage aura and spineburst simple to aim... you get right smack in the middle... and go nutz, and thorwspines cone is HUGE, so, again, aiming isn't hard, and the attacks recharge pretty fast. Elec, it's best aoe attack is on a long timer. JL's cone IMO is small, The chaining lighting attack is unpredictable. thrunderstike is AWSOME, no question, but all in all, i think spines is just more consistnet and more forgiving, thus, making it, genearly speaking, a better performer.
Hmm... If only I could actually come up with a concept for a spines/fire scrapper... (or the incentive to get back into my mace tank as the other posts are making it sound pretty sweet, she's just playing too slow in the low levels to get my attention.) -
Wait, wait, what makes Spines a better AoE set than electric? I mean, I can imagine it's a better all around set, but for sheer number of AoE attacks and their availability, I think Electric has it hands down.
I mean, I know there's spine burst and some range in spines, but how does that compare to Lightning rod+Thunder strike+Chain Induction? (I don't really count Clap, as it's more a utility power) -
-
I've also started a "futuristic paladin" concept with a Shield/Electric Tanker. The backstory is that he's a protoype police bot who has a malfunction that has convinced him that he's on a mission from God (yeah, lots of Cylon undertones).
I can't say that playing him feels all that fast and furious, but perhaps an Elec/Shield scrapper would do better, as it would get a full attack chain more quickly. -
Quote:Enjoy the beach, man. I16 will be here waiting when you get back and all you'll miss it the lag of the "first to login" rush.I knew it... I totally knew it. 16 would come out the same day i go on vacation. so you can all thank me and my bad timing for a vacation on the release of 16... now the question is... can i find WiFi on the beach? ugh, sand in the laptop might be bad.
Honestly, I'm considering taking a few days to let the issue cool down and I don't even have any vacation time. -

Okay, for this I need to figure out how to add rep... Reference filled me with nostalgia.

I'm a little more understanding of the limits in the power customization. As it is, the UI is at the character creation, before the game knows anything about your intended pool picks, and the filing system only has a static number of powers, so they stuck with the 18 that you have to choose from at the start.
Adding pools into the mix adds at least 16 slots to the file and at most 40 slots... So nearly doubling or over tripling the load time added for each costume. Of course, the APPs and PPPs add between 4 and 16 slots in the file on top of that... and then the UI additions to accommodate the picks.
Epics wouldn't have the same UI issues, but they have substansially more than 18 powers to choose from (can't remember the number off the top of my head), and can take most of the power pools... Once it's all done, the files will get huge, with most of the file space filled with placeholders on most characters.
Don't get me wrong, I want it.Just letting you know the hurdles involved.

This wasn't JUST for the folks with _NA and _EU... Right?
EDIT: Thank you!!! I finally feel like myself again! -
I have the ultra-secret top ten qualification for getting into closed beta!
All testers MUST
10) Test according to the requested focus
9) Follow the GMOTD during open betas
8) post only factual numbers ("lots", "most" and "all of" are not numbers)
7) Post only balanced suggestions
6) Post only constructive criticism
5) Know the difference between fact and opinion
4) Respect others
3) Love the game
2) Be lucky (this can trump many of the above)
1) Be awesome -
Quote:This, but still keep it tied to the team's HP. More %HP, less End Discount, more damage buff (a moderate boost, to just barely below Corrupter base while at maximum) Less %HP, less damage buff, more End discount. This way, it gives the defender an incentive to keep the team at full health and to use his secondary when they're there.Defender Vigilance: Turn it into a power that reduces endurance cost the more people who are on the team, and in the other direction boosts damage the fewer people there are on the team. Most of the damage boost coming while solo ( the flavor text could be "When operating solo, you no longer need to concentrate on the welfare of teamates and can concentrate more power into your attacks" ). So when solo you can actually kill things; but in groups Defenders won't be overpowered.
They still don't really have any damage advantage over Corrupters, as they never get crits, and they solo a good deal better. (as the current formulas have the team always at full if you're solo.)
And you don't have to change any of the existing Vigilance formulas that way, less coding! (I didn't say no coding, just less) -
See! We're helpers! Let us in!
Why! Why are we sitting out here when there's Science to do!
*clicky clicky* Yep, it still works.
EDIT: Also:
Quote:WoW i log in all time time. So i can be shown as being on there. I been playing this game close to 51 months. I got about 9,200 hrs in this game since i downloaded x-fire on 12/17/05. And you are going to sit here and tell me i havent receved a closed beta invite yet. And makes it worse is you are on wave 4. And i been in the other closed betas ... WOW i feel robbed.. -
-
Well, still not in. On the positive side, they fixed it to quickly give a proper "you're not in closed beta" message, rather than just the generic "cannot connect to DB Server" error.
... Progress! -
Quote:Man, when you say it that way...Well, some of us... Actually managed to do BOTH of these things!
(Which apparently, is a somehow inconceivable, "Herculean Accomplishment" in your... mind/eyes/opinion?)
Quote:And of course you had to explain your powers, = "run them by the GM" to get his approval some powers could "break" certain storylines/campaigns if you weren't careful - but that's true to some extent in most any game.
Quote:The PnP/tabletop - "Champions - aka HERO System", followed by GURPS, and other games... Have all been WAY more customizable than any computer game published to date. MANY, many - "City of" players have wished the game was more customizable in a manner closer to 4th or 5th Ed. Champions, or GURPS Supers, or a handful of other SuperHero PnP RPG's.
And, when CO was announced - as having the (unbelievably bland) Champs IP - and not the HERO System - with it's point based character building/rules/mechanics/etc:
'There was a great disturbance in the Net, as if the hopes of millions (Ok, 10's of thousands) cried out and were suddenly squashed.'*sigh*
-
My idea was a bit simpler, keep Vigilance the way it is (possibly smoothing out the curve it follows if anything), but add a moderate damage buff that decreases as the Vigilance discount goes up.
Solo, you get better damage, since you can't get the Vigilance discount, on a team, you have an incentive to keep the team healthy and use your secondary while they are healthy.
On top, it's a straightforward and (possibly) simple to code solution. -
So in the same issue that we get power customization, we not only eliminate tells for padding, but also tells for bridging, which made up at least 80% of powerleveling spam?
"i16: We love RP forever!"
Now if you'll excuse me, I need to retrieve my jaw from the other side of the earth. -
Quote:Emphasis mine for THIS THIS THIS!Quite right. I think this has come up before, I should have known better.
However, there is still a way to implement a "condenser" power. When multiple targets are teleported to a single destination, as with Assemble The Team, the result is a pile of entities which quickly spread out into a dense crowd. Suppose Dim Shift did the following:
1. All affected enemies are phased for 5 to 10 seconds.
2. All affected enemies are set to 100% transparency and capped stealth, thus "disappearing from the plane". A graphical effect is placed where the central target was indicating the "rupture in space".
3. After the phase duration, all affected enemies are teleported to the location of the targeted enemy, knocked down, and affected by random status effects.
An excellent fight opener that leaves enemies condensed in one spot indicated by the "space rupture" graphic. Place location-based effects on the rupture and rub hands together, cackling evilly...
Perhaps too much conceptual overlap with Wormhole, though.
Or alternatively, do the bolded two things, and also apply a high mag sleep to the affected target, all of which suppresses if the target is actually hit (by a phased comerade, for instance). This would fix the confusion problems to a degree, and still work thematically with everything.
