    NPC's for Bases

    [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]

I would say more than 1k per month though, but definately less than 10k

Perhaps a tiered system. Students are free, expert mechanics ( who would repair stuff in a non-existent base-raid ) for 8k per month or something.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    8k each is a lot
Also small bases are free so far and get gradually expensive once you enlarge the base. I would suggest that hiring people would go from free (expenses paid by city hall) to more and more as the base grows and the number of people you can hire increases.

They shouldnt cost to much if all they do is cosmetic though. But for those that actually do more then just standing or sitting around looking busy a higher fee would be appropriate.

Hmm one more to add to the list.

    9 nurse/surgeon (posibly giving you +10% heal)

    [/ QUOTE ]

I was working on the basis that some of the non-interactive base-items are 5k each ( large wall banners for example from memory )

Ok ... so they're not charged per month but that's still a lot.

    Anyways, taken under advisment

I would say that there should be at least a minimal charge for anything other than students however. After all, anyone who can't russle up 1k prestige a month obviously isn't that bothered about playing in SG mode after all

I would suggest however that you don't buy them but pay them a salary. Lets say a 1000 prestige each month.

I like that better, I'll pretend I suggested that

    Thanks

    NPC's for Bases

Just been doing some minor base editing and suddenly thought, "Wouldn't it be great if our library actually had a librarian!"

    So, here's the suggestion.

The ability to purchase NPC's to work in your base.
Maximum of 2 npcs per size-level of base.

    100,000 prestige each.

You can set them to stationary, wandering or wandering and restricted to a room.

    Random war_witch comments from them

    Choice of 6 npcs ( tech/arcane )

    1 : Security Guard/Guardian
    2 : Mechanic/Scholar
    3 : Librarian/Librarian
    4 : Janitor/Caretaker
    5 : Student/Acolyte
6 : Professor/Arch-Mage ( could sell you invention recipies like the invention table ? )

I think these would help fill out a base nicely and give some atmosphere to a room.

Open to suggestions for more than the 6 above.

  4. I think the answer depends on what you want to do.

If you want to use your blaster to drain as much endurance as possible, slot in everything.
If you want a nice compromise, slot SS and PS fully, and the others with perhaps one end mod.
If you want to primarily do damage, just slot SS and PS.

If you take short circuit ( which you should ) you are wasting it if you don't slot it with end-mod

Which particular ones are "rubbish"? I guarantee you your opinion does not reflect the entire player community.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I never said my opinion *did* reflect the entire player community :P

The devs didn't have to add Vet Rewards. They're a bonus. Not a right.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Completely agreed.

I think this thread is starting to diverge into two.
1 : People discussing the original post regarding picking your veteran reward
2 : People discussing whether or not veteran rewards are worth it at all.

    In response to both.
I *don't* like the idea of being able to pick a vet reward every three months.
I *do* think the current scheme and rewards are absolutely fine.

Yes, I personally perceive some of the vet rewards as "rubbish". That simply makes the good ones even more rewarding.

    Fahie
  6. /not signed

If you can choose whatever vet reward you want at the beginning, then after 18 months you'll basically have everything you want, eg the pets and temp powers, and possibly a costume/respec/base item of your choice.

You're then left with rubbish for the rest of the time.

I'm looking forward to the first pet because it will actually mean I've achieved something.

The only way I could /sign this is if they were bundled up, so in the first twelve months you had a choice from set A. The second year from set B and so on.

I suspect any "gambling" device wouldn't even be entertained by the devs

I think you may be right, even though I imagine they are after the ultimate influence sink

  8. [ QUOTE ]

I assume the original question was 'do I need a farming toon so I can gather lots of inf and pimp up my PvP toons?'

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Ahh ..

    Crossed wires

IMHO ... yes. You need the inf for the purples and uniques.

Having said that, a badly slotted but well played toon will do far better than the same toon well slotted, but badly played.

Inventions do not make a toon great.
They do however make a great toon absolutely awesome

Also a friend had to point the ad out to me - that's how unobtrusive it was for me personally.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Still haven't seen one Not that this is what the bean-counters want to hear, but I *must* have been past lots of these.

I just haven't had them intrude on me. To be fair, whilst running through a zone I am more intent on catching up on team chat than looking at the environment I've run through 72 times before.

No complaints here, and yes I checked, they are turned on

  10. ref salvage :

    i *did* like this idea.

Then I thought about the impact this has on the cheap salvage required for recipies.

Basically, if people stop selling it, supply and demand takes over.

Lvl 10 recipies will cost 100k to make just on salvage.

Now ... an inspiration gambler, thats a nice thought

Basically, anything that can't be bought from a normal store is a no-no for me, due to the effects on the ( already inflated ) market.

Do I need a farmer(Fire/Kin) to make my ppl good at PVP?

    [/ QUOTE ]

To try and help out the new person for once ... ( I think I must be ill or something )

Farming and pvp'ing are basically mutually exclusive.

Farming is the art of running through PVE maps very quickly in order to gain as much influence, drops and pvp for other members as possible.

PVP is about killing other players.

I don't personally know of any good farm build that is of good use in pvp, be it team or solo pvp.

If you *are* new, seriously .. don't worry about uber builds. Play the game, enjoy it, get a feel for it, then look at making what you want be it pve or pvp.

And yes, my first 50 was fire/ice blaster ... i *did* do that

    Fahie
  12. After trialing various sets on my Ill/Rad, I ended up going for psi and have been happy with it ever since.

Perma Indomitable Will is possible without messing up your build, it just costs a lot This is a must have power IMHO

Mental blast I use now instead of spectral wounds as my primary single target ranged attack.

Psionic tornado is actually only about 2/3rds the damage of fireball. But, it isn't bad against minions and the control element is nice as a bonus.

Mind over body is ok too, plus you can bung a -Res unique in it.

My primary reason for psi is that I wanted my ill/rad to be effective in pvp. The addition of mental blast is great for tipping the damage past what your PA can output and indom will is a godsend.
I took tornado so that I could slot another set of purples, having no other ranged damage options available.

  13. [ QUOTE ]

'Like' is probably the wrong word. We... appreciate debt. We understand that there needs to be some punishment imposed for dying; zero jeopardy, for me, equals zero fun. Add to the low debt the temporary rez powers and the ability to combine insps to make wakeys, and dying just doesn't teach anything anymore. You get up within moments, and are debt-free within a mob's time. At launch, I used to think how easygoing the game was when you died; a bit of debt and a quick walk back from hospital is a far cry from losing experience/levels/equipment and having to traipse incorporeally halfway round the world. It's got a lot easier, even since then. Read into that what you will; I like that the lesser punishment encourages casual gaming, but I do feel the difficulty curve is a little on the gentle side. Actually, it's more or less flat.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Agreed.

Doing the standard comparison with another mmorpg, I remember the first time I died *properly* in everquest. Took me over half an hour to retrieve my corpse.

Death ( or hospital transportation if you will ) in a minor annoyance in CoH. It never scares you enough to really try and avoid it.
How many times have we all sat there trying to squeeze off an AOE to wipe the remaining minions, even though we're on our last sliver of health ?

However, if debt/death was made harder, I imagine that we'd lose a fair few players.

Oh goodie. Vin Diesels head all over the place.

That's the flaw with the ad system, if there aren't many ads to rotate we're going to see his big bald head everywhere.

Where's the Batman and Hellboy ads, eh?

Or even things like Heroes (starting on Sci-fi, although already shown on BBC) and the like. Ring up SciFi, Channel 4 (Reaper), Virgin 1 (home of Star Trek, Terminator etc) or whoever and get some quid pro quo ads going (we advertise them ingame, they have a "City of Heroes" mini-ad thingy when they go or come from the ad breaks on the shows).

    [/ QUOTE ]

OOOOO .... "Heroes season 3 is sponsored by City of Heroes." .... Love it

Now ... a Sylar AV arc .... mmmmm

  15. [ QUOTE ]
they could do it the other way around, until you have a lvl 50, your XP rate is higher.
but after you have a lvl 50, the currency go's as current, with an unlocked option to slow down the lvling.(so with that option, you need 25% more XP then normal)

    [/ QUOTE ]

Personally, I don't like the idea of any option where once you get a 50, your other characters level slower.

For me, the first 50, playing through all the missions and arcs was the fun one. Now I have some toons that I just want to get up to 50 asap for SG TF's and PVP.

Making it take longer than the first 50 is counter-intuitive to me.

Perhaps the other way round. Once you have a level 50 you get xp quicker ... after all, you've done it all once, your previous experience makes it easier for you

Seriously though, any change in xp following your first level 50 is a big no-no for me.

An option to reduce XP ( or turn it off as in EQ2 ) is fine for me, because I will never use it

    Fahie
  16. [ QUOTE ]
And oddly enough didn't a defender win it all ?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    rad/psi from memory.

I think the outcome would vary greatly on rules though. Eg, I've fought against a friends rad/psi several times with my primary pvp toon. It's always the same result. After 5 mins in the arena she is ahead usually 4-2 or so. Then she runs out of BF's. After ten minutes I've won with a fair old lead.

Conversely, I can't hold a torch to an ice/energy tank but the same rad/psi walks through them with ease.

I do love the fact that there is no 'best' build for 1v1 pvp in CoX

Anyways ... more official pvp tourneys get a /signed from me

Tut-tut. Who do you think you are, Golden Girl?

    Lol !

Worryingly, Golden Girl and I seem to completely agree on the requirement for physics enabled clothing and hair too

Perhaps I have a long lost twin ?

I think it would also be nice if any benefit bestowed by the accolade is only active when the toon is in SG mode. This would also act as an incentive for players to earn prestige for the SG.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well .. since the initial plan was to have this act as a doubling of perstige earned, then yes, you would have to be in SG mode for any effect

But ... agreed, if there were any other additional side benefits then they should only work when in SG mode.

  19. I can see a GM/AV post split here

WRT AV's : I'll restate that I think romulus is the best AV in the game. You can take him down multiple ways ( none of them overtly easy ) and he will react in different ways to each. He uses tactics and *appears* to be an intelligent foe.

GM's IMHO *should* be just huge beasts with a shed load of HP and some massive attacks.

    As comparison.

I've duo'd Jack in irons and Eochai with my troller, using a blaster for damage. I think I could *just* about have soloed them but didn't want to wait 5 hours to finally see them fall over.

However, I wouldn't consider trying to do the same with Lusca at all.

    My opinion :
GM's should be long hard battles requiring lots of players and a large amount of damage spam.
AV's should be much shorter, very risky battles requiring much more in the way of tactics and team arrangement.

    Fahie
  20. Well .. I must admit I hardly ever play villains so I will take you word on those GM's

Apologies for not considering our evil brethren

    Fahie
  21. [ QUOTE ]

You could make it a mixture of both. The SG as a whole must have defeated all the arcane/tech AVs and defeated X number of arcane/tech baddies. This means you can set the number really high and have a diverse number of baddies.

But then for the double prestige to kick the individual member must have certain exploration badges, mission badges etc.

Just an idea what do you think?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I have a gut feeling that people are less likely in the SG to want to push for the AV's and GM's when they won't see the prestige doubling themselves. Plus, people might then get problematic with the "I'm generating double prestige, so everyone should give their rares to me" kind of thing.

Personally, I would think an all-or-nothing approach will be better for SG morale and usability. Since people cannot take their prestige with them when they move SG's and it can't be traded, then there shouldn't be any opportunity for abuse.

    Fahie
  22. Okay .. basic requirements ( first draft )

    Defeat AV - Battle Maiden,
    Defeat AV - Bobcat,
    Defeat AV - Malaise,

Create 1,000 Tech Components from Tech salvage

I'm not so happy with Jack and Eochai, but they're the only two GM's that are Arcane-only :P

I believe the above is completely achievable with anything but the very smallest of SG's. It may take a while, but it's possible

    Fahie
  23. More movement

It seems odd that AV's are generally happy to stand arround in one place, or even if they move, it's not that fast.

Melee AV's with SJ and SS who 'lock onto' characters for a period of time could be fun.
Running around a map desperately trying to shake them whilst your teammates shout "come back!"

Given that movement is king in PVP it seems kind of poo that the toughest villains in the game can't get around a bit faster.

TP Foe too? Let them bring ranged support in a bit closer

No loss of aggro after you've gone 100 yards. Make them hunt you and your team down.

Personally speaking, I think more dangerous, but quicker fights would really entertain me.

and yes, Romulus with his Nictus is the most fun AV battle for me at the moment.

    Fahie
  24. Thanks for the replies all.

I do believe and agree that CoX is currently great value for money.

I suppose however that what I'm trying to get at is that the amount of money we pay is fine, but for the equivelent price of one drink in the pub a month we could potentially have so much more.

Stormhammer was an utter failure, but the dev and support team for CoX is a million times better than it was at SoE.
I think they could manage to do something special given a cash incentive

    Fahie
