Supergroup Name: The Omega Syndicate
Colors: Silver and Blue
Motto: "Serving up Pain on a Silver Platter. A nice pretty platter, with a Doily!"
Recruiting Officers: Krillin, Lot Six, Affinity
About the Group: We are trying to keep everyone close in level, so as to always be able to group. Around 20+ is a good level to be considered for membership, though exceptions can always be made. Most importantly, we want people that play nearly as much as we do. We are online alot! Usually early evening until late evening, and all day long on weekends. We must have grouped with you twice at least, and you must be mature, sociable, and have a sense of humor! We prefer a Tell, and possibly an attempt to group. -
I have a small suggestion for helping with people who have problems with pressing 2 movement buttons at once...
Remove the auto toggle binds from the strafe keys.
I think it'd be easier to get used to having to move forward or backward only (this includes diagonal), than not moving diagnal. -
Ka is not really super at all. With all the super powered heroes around her she sometimes feels inadequate. Raised in the orient my monks when her monther died, her superior reflexes were noted and she underwent intense training. When she came to the states to find her father, she discovered he was a policeman in Paragon city, but before they could meet, he was killed while on duty.
She has decided to do what she can to fight crime. And while she may have superior reflexes and skill with the katana, she doesn't have any traveling power. (I am considering combat jumping, but even that seems too "super").
She does what she can. Being a normal human she sometimes needs to recuperate at her apartment for a while. Right now she has 11 skills (level 18). To help her get around she has practiced steath, and is working on her fitness.
The next three skills will probably be whirling sword, quickness and stamina, not necessarily in that order. She has a problem with endurance, which seems to be side effect of her superior reflexes and hopes that working on her stamina will help.
She is currently a member of a sg that seems to have fallen on hard times. She may be open to joining an RP sg. If you see her, don't hesitate to say hello. -

There he lied, in a tube with serum floating through it. There he lied, with many wires from his metal exterior to the tube. His ominous eyes stayed calm, and he looked as if he was dead. But he was far from it. Any second now, he was about to be let loose to change the world.
He was Wolfpak, a battlemech designed by the Fifth Column. His metallic armor was virtually indestructible, and he packed quite a punch with his far-above-average strength. He also had the uploaded mind of a brilliant German nazi commander dated back to World War II. He was nearly invulnerable, and perfect in every way.
"Opening the cryo tube in 5...4...3...2...". The man hesitantly pushed the button on a large media boardset. The tube hissed loudly, released some air and opened up, freeing the Wolfpak to his synthetic will. "Wolfpak is out, I repeat, Wolfpak is out."
As computed, he automatically began walking to the Army Corridor. As he walked through many halls, German soldiers saw him and instantly saluted. The Wolfpak thought why they were putting their hands to their foreheads, and where he was going. His feet seemed to do the thinking for him.
He arrived, and slid into another tube, which levitated him to the ground floor, where he then met another human. He saluted him, like all the others. Somehow, Wolfpak knew who this person was.
"General Hornig."
"Oh! Wolfpak! You've been awakened, I see. Take a look around."
"Where am I?"
"Nacht Cape, a German stronghold. Wolfpak, your first mission begins soon."
"Yes sir," he said, and walked to a stall which enclosed him again.
He wondered about what happened. Who were these people? Where is this place he is? Who is he? Where is he? WHAT is he?
In what seemed like two seconds, the tube opened back up. He stepped out. He heard a loud sound. Like the whirring of a waterfall. He looked through the large glass window and saw a helicoptor. Without thinking he instantly walked to it, and boarded it with a load of other soldiers. They saluted just like the rest. What did that mean? Could it be a sign of singling out? He was so different from the others. His voice was odd. His skin was very hard.
"Taking off."
The helicoptor lifted itself off the ground, and began taking flight towards the horizon.
"We're here. Drop on my command. Alright...drop, drop, drop!"
The floor made itself a blank square in it's floor, and all the soldiers began jumping out. Were they mad? They would die if they did that! He knew though, that he was much different from the others. Maybe he wouldn't die if he did. So he followed suit and jumped out.
He flipped, facing towards the ground, and something on his back started firing up. He went at an extreme velocity towards the ground. When he approached the ground, he somehow flew before he reached the ground, letting him reach the ground softly. He looked up and the other soldiers had big things hanging over their shoulders. Somehow, the humans were able to float towards the ground! How? He knew that defied the laws of gravity. Could this whole thing be a dream?

Part 2 coming later. Yes, I know it sucks, but hey, I'm not that experienced in fanfics. -
I was wondering if after you got it all figured out, you could post it in english? Seriously, I'm new to binding and I got lost about half way through the post. I'm gonna give it a try, maybe playing with it will actually help to sort it out for me. Thanks everyone for all the hard work and time!
PS: I just got "fly" about an hour ago and it is the coolest thing I have ever done in a MMORPG. -
I am another gamer that definatly doesn't like the latest changes. Last night and today I played my Gravity/Kinetics Controller and must say most of the fun has gone out of this charactor for me. ALL of my powers require me to hit a target to work. I spent every influence point I had to buy 6 Accuracy enhancements and people were still dieing too often in my group because I was regularly missing targets with my heals and buffs.
It seems to me that all other healers that I can think of do not have to hit an enemy to heal thier group so kinetics was the only group effected in this way. Was it really nessesary to nerf a heal that missed regularly even before the patch? I use 80% of my slots for Accuracy enhancements just to not feel usless in groups.
Most types of powers have passive and self affecting powers that were not affected by the patch, For example my Scrapper misses his punches more often yet his Invulnerability powers are just as effective as ever. Gravity/Kinetics players seem to have gotten a raw deal as 95% of both power sets are affected.
Also one of the things I liked very much about this game was that players several levels apart could still group together and be effective. Now if you are 3 levels above the rest of the group you are carrying it and if you are 3 levels below the rest of the group you are close to useless. -
this is one of the most helpful posts on forum.
we need more constructive posts such as this in our community.
thanks alot for your time and effort! -
Ahh, good catch on the follow... I don't use it on my controller, but I'm sure I will soon on my Scrapper. Will look into it, but nothing soon. But if you don't want to wait, just double call powexec_name sprint twice to force activation when you follow, and load another bind for your follow key that calls sprint twice, and then calls powexec_abort. A lot like the AutoRun is set up.

Hey Blue Volt, sorry to jump your claim
But, this is all useful and how it works in real science... SynAbyss comes up with a new concept and reveals it, and we all mash it around and around and around until everybody understands it completely. For instance, I did not think of the fact that you can use this as a way to make a new chord key. Of course, you'd have to have some + command to do it. I wonder if you could use +forward and +backward at the same time, so you wouldn't actually move? But, for this application we WANT ourselves to move, so maybe make each movement key a chord key, and have the 2nd key NOT change movement? That's smarter, and would overcome the problem Oaken Filipino had with canceled attacks, I think. I had the same problem with my scrapper... as soon as I moved during combat, the powexec_abort makes him put away his sword and cancel attacks.
I'll have to mess around on my portable (probably no internet connection), and then compare my results with yours when I return.
Cheers -

I think the title of your post is a little misleading. It seems that your complaint is that some people play robots, rather than being bothered by the number of robotic characters.
[/ QUOTE ]The thing is, it's the robots that stand out the most when you are in a group. Most other types of roleplayers aren't making an effort to spam the chat window with inane commands every time we kill a mob (of which there can be a dozen a pull).
But the robot players seem to think they can't do anything at all without either having some hotkey for it or associating it with some emote. Rest modes, initiating combats, different emotes for every single power. Requesting heals or whatever. They stand out the most only because of th ehuge volume of info they insist on spamming the group with for every single minute action they take.
[ QUOTE ]
As for people who "flavor" their powers with script... more power to them (pardon the pun).
[/ QUOTE ]No.. they need to learn that seeing some nuke emote every single time they cast a power is over the top. I mean, I can see the explosion.. I know they are using the ability. I don't need to see text spamming the chat window at the same time. There are very specific situations where it becomes important to inform the group a certain mob or set of mobs is being taken care of in a certain way, especially if you are juggling severeal bosses at once. But seeing spam every 2 seconds as a mob is being pummeled with ice bolt over and over is a little much.
Sometimes, less is more. -
First off, a shout-out to Tipsy_McStagger for bringing Unknown Armies onto the board. Easily the greatest role-playing game ever. But I'm sure its not what you need for your game (or even something you could get your head around - Most can't).
However since your needs are specific, Superheroes in 1910, I'd highly recommend ADVENTUE! from white-wolf. It has lots of useful background information and design for that time period. True, it's more pulp than four-color, but there are superpowers in it.
And if all else fails, I'd vote GURPS. Just do yourself a favor and stay away from d20 stuff like Mutants and Masterminds. You don't want to play a level-based system do you?
Oh wait...Security Levels...nevermind. -

As for people who "flavor" their powers with script... more power to them (pardon the pun). Teamspeak is extremely useful before battle (the plan) and after battle (the rest/regroup phase), but if you have time to type out something worthwhile in the battle then you're either having an incredibly easy time or doing something hideously wrong. A good defender can see when people need a heal or a buff. A good blaster can tell when the tanker is about to run out of endurance. It's all in the team window. The only useful battle command I've seen is "run!", but half the time people ignore it and fight to the bitter end (maybe not too bright, but pretty heroic). -
Mykal scratched the top of his head. He'd been in his lab for hours, finalizing the new modifications. Technically, it was still under development but he still wanted to take it for a test drive. It would be a while before he could integrate it with the rest of his equipment.
He hit the streets that night, battling the Hellions. His nuclear blasts were working wonderfully as were his neutrino contact lenses. His personal force field needed some shoring up and he also needed to realign his force bolts for maximum effect. It was going to be some time but eventually, he'd have it all working as one unit.
He got back from his trial run with a million things racing through his head. Some potential international clients were coming in tomorrow and he had to be ready for that. There were a lot more things he wanted to do with the prototype unit, and he had to explain to a very special lady why he had to cancel their date.
But tonight, he wasn't finished. There was more work to be done.
Slapping on his teleportation harness, forearm guantlets, and shoulder attachments, he looked longingly out of his office window.
Lord. You said there would be twelve of us. I don't know if I'm growing impatient or what....but where are the other four?
He stood in silence, waiting for a prompting in his spirit. None came.
I trust you'll bring them.
Pushing a button on his gauntlet, he vanished from the office into the night sky. -
Trample: That key is called TILDE in keybinds. For instance,
TILDE "powexec_abort$$follow$$powexec_auto Boxing$$powexec_name Sprint"
LSHIFT+TILDE "powexec_abort$$l <color white><bgcolor maroon><scale 1.5>CHARGE!$$follow$$powexec_auto Boxing$$powexec_name Sprint" -
I have my self-tp power bound to my numeric keypad's 5-key and it works fine; however, I can't seem to bind to the key for the tick charater (the left single-quote or ` character--on my keyboard it's the unshifted tilda), and when typing a message during game play, if I accidentally hit that key, it breaks me out of the message field--very annoying.

It doesn't help that around the high teens early 20's is the "holy crap it takes a long time to get anywhere" point. Unless some good friends are on, it's more fun to experiment with a new character than to spend pretty much an entire day's worth of play trying to hit the next level.
I think the bigger question is, do you automatically transfer all your new characters to your old super group, or do you try an entirely fresh start, blank friends list and all? -
Well its like this, I am a casual gamer and I have played EQ for aprox 4 1/2 years, they change things over and over. If this is going to become a norm for this game let me know now please, I would like to get to a high level one day. I mean I went from being able to solo mobs 2-3 levels above me and maybe 2 others my level, like a boss and 2 minions or a lt and 2 minions, I log after this latest patch and I cant hit anything even things my level I miss them 2 outta three shots and this is with a PBAoE power, I mean come on. I understand the need for balance but alot of people that play are looking to see their exp bar move sometime this month, they want to see the end game and kill big mobs like super heroes do. I never seen super heroes like these that get taken out by one guy that is 2 levels above them. I mean its like eq and the warrior, I have never seen a warrior that couldnt hold his own 1 on 1 but in eq after level 30 your dead if you dont have a healer. That seems to be where this whole "Balance" thing is headed, if I am not going to be able to solo their is no point in playing because I play late at night and there usually isnt nobody or not many on at that time. Killing mobs the same level as me or below I would possibly see end game when CoH 2 comes out.

You know the types. Every pull they splat thier little hotkey to spam the group with some emote or message littered with beeps and whirs as they descend on the opponents. Every time the action ends they go into some rest mode. Why must all roleplaying be handled by people who insist on playing noisy annoying hotkey spamming robots..
Please, if you are going to roleplay a robot, dont feel the need to spam spam spam spam spam spam spam spam spam spam spam spam spam spam spam spam spam spam every pull, every add, everey time you hit any button that nukes or heals or mezzes or whatever. Just calm down, learn to hold back so you aren't spamming important group chatter out of the window, and realize no one really cares if you are initiating combat mode for the 600th time in a mission. -
First off, this is one of the best ideas ever.
However...
I tried putting those last sprint binds in on my scrapper. However, I found that sometimes the sprint would get a little messed up when I would start strafing while moving forward at the same time.
Even with identical binds on the two strafe keys, I had a lot more problems strafing right than left. Interesting.
Also, don't forget to add a sprint to follow, otherwise you'll have a very slow follow, and follow is very important for me as a scrapper. Also as a scrapper, the canceling of the power I queue up to hit when I get in range can be annoying, but not hard to deal with.
Over all, great stuff. I wish I could contribute more. -
Demos have been working a LOT better lately! Thanks Cryptic!

Basically groups are should now be similar to the ffxi groups which were 1-2 lvls apart. Also with this patch it just slowed down exp so it could maybe make people stay in the game longer because now it will take longer to lvl, thus increasing the longevity of the game maybe.
[/ QUOTE ]
BTW....this is what I meant by "SoE kinda way".
Flawed thinking at best.
If the intention of this latch patch was to slow down powergamers then yippee....it worked.
For the other 90% of us who love grouping and cant live in front of a computer, it was not good.
Regards,
Captain Beyond -
So things that discourage grouping and decrease the fun element are good ideas?
As far as "the game has been out a whole month" thing; when changes are made that drastically effect a heroe's powers, it is a bad idea.....irregardless.
In beta the devs really gave ya the feeling they cared and listened, now they seem to be kinda leanin more towards the "SoE kinda way" of doing things.

Many great posts here. Lots of good solid reasoning.
Gecko,
here are the main three problems with your constant nerfs and changes:
1) it is IMPOSSIBLE to plan and develop a character
2) it is NOT popular with the majority of your customers
3) see #1 and #2
I have had the day off today and havent logged in once. Two patches ago, I would have been on for about 4-5 hours.
Get my drift?

As for your number 1, the game hasn't been live a whole month yet (has it?) so you can't expect to have character plans be set in stone. As dev's have said, the game changes aren't meant to piss you off on purpose as so many board users seem to think, they are patching to balance and make the game as it was originally thought to have been, so no uber power leveling. -

Thanks Oaken Filipino!
I'm glad to know it works, especially since I started a Scrapper, and so my Controller isn't getting any closer to flying at the moment
Ok, but I just made a breakthrough! I figured out a way to prevent problems when pressing more than one key. I was thinking... Hmmm... when you use a +something command in a bind, it executes it once when you PRESS the key, and it comes back and does the bind AGAIN when you RELEASE it. So, I thought if it doesn't hold the bind in memory during that time, then you should be able to change the bind with the first key-press so that the key-release calls a different bind. This allows you to explicitly set the power on or off, rather than just toggling it. And it works! The key is pressed and the bind ensures that sprint is set by calling it with powexec twice. Then it loads a one liner bind file that changes JUST THAT KEY to a bind that makes sure Sprint is NOT set (by calling it twice then calling abort). You need a lot of little bind files, but it seems to work pretty smooth for me. No real slowdowns.
The one problem is that if you press two keys, and then release one but not the other, Sprint turns off even though youre still moving. You can just release it, and everything is back to normal, and if you STILL want to go in that direction, you can just press the direction key you want.
So, sorry for the long posts, but I just tested this on the ground, and it works great I never get into a that bad place where you are sprinting while stopped, and not sprinting when moving. And if I just posted partial binds, then I'd confuse you AND myself.

Ok, Im going on travel on Monday, and I wont have time this weekend, so I cant modify it so it works in the air right now. But, use the same principle if you cant wait, and I should have the full bind for you late next week.
