Quote:exactly. We'd have to do a whole lot more to reach the main screen turn on news.
A week or two ago I wanted to get a flash mob organized right outside NCSoft's NA offices--something for which there are groups of people out there ready and willing. And I looked into finding some people who have experience making those events turn out really well, but in the end I realized I'd need a whole lot of support going into it; and as much as I hate to sound negative, the most I could get out of our community was one or two laughs.
I also had an idea to have two giant paper mache Statesman statues erected outside of NCSoft's UK and NA offices simultaneously. This would have taken some money and help, but hit up Google Images for "giant paper mache statue" and you'll see that it's not such a crazy idea, there are some really cool ones that have been made by people (if you search around you'll find a huge Hulk one). Someone was even willing to deliver the UK one. Again, no one saw merit in this.
I believe there's still time to pull off big stunts like these, or more effective ones. It's not the notion that "U GUYZ IGNORD MY IDEAZ" that irritates me--this is the Internet, getting an idea across is largely about timing if you're not well-known, and sometimes even then. Rather, it's the notion that a lot of people are allergic to any effort that would cause them to get up out of their chairs for too long and do something in the real world. You can't get into the mainstream news without a real big show of love for whatever cause you're supporting--and that takes more than big numbers of people; it also takes big crazy antics. The press loves big crazy antics (when they're harmless--so no vandalizing Hellion style).
I also think we should have had one reliable source handle the shipping and dumping of all of our letters, masks and capes out of a single truck right at NCSoft's doorstep, with the news media there to see it. This wasn't my idea, I've seen other people bring it up here and there. I agree that we missed a great opportunity by trickling these items into NCSoft's mail rooms in a fashion that may be easily ignored by the higher ups. You can't get big corporations to pay attention to you. You can only get the MEDIA to get the big corporations to pay attention to you. Big corporations don't have ears or hearts. They do have PR departments.
I bet though if the tables were flipped and someone mentions the downside of this game and juciy details of like how one player ignored his family to play, lost his job because he stopped going, and havent left the house in weeks nor showered or changed clothes and etc, the media probably would eat it up. Well, not as much as they used to because I think they moved on the people that played for weeks without stopping and keeled over. -
Quote:I dont eat cereal.Wow....
You actually went there. I had a long post responding to each of these quotes individually, right up until I got to this one.
Comparing this one response to telling a (guessing you were referring to a victim of a sexual assault) that it was their fault they were assaulted.
Obviously, you are willing to take anything TonyV says and twist it to see it as something negative and disrespectful. Have fun with that.
Basically all of the responses you quoted are to someone stating that they did not see the point in any of the efforts to save the game. Responses made by someone who wants to save the game. Whatever floats your boat.
I guess TonyV really must have pissed in your Cheerios at some point for you to try so hard. -
Quote:-yea the point wasnt to gain you reconition. Just thoughts that I wrote nothing more nothing less. That is why I didnt say any other names as it was talking about in general of what I viewed and was directed at no one in particular. But since, some people made it about them in particular, I went with it. Especially TonyV as this probably is the best opportunity to understand him since he came on in. Hey the warning was there. surrounded by bold letters. As I said, they were just mere thoughts and what I been observing, nothing more nothing less.Tony, I hope I'm not the only one that would much rather not see you defending yourself. Good lord, man, if there's anyone here who doesn't have to defend himself, it's you. I have tremendous reservations about Plan Z, but hey, that's just one letter in the entire alphabet and you know what? These efforts need a leader and you're the man who made the stand.
I do appreciate the sentiments in your post, Evil, but I stand 100 percent behind Tony's plans to save the game. Sure, I'm doing stuff on my own. But please realize, this is about ten miles shy of making me special or single-minded. Lots of people are doing stuff on their own. In fact, if they're not, I've got a bone to pick with them. Tony has encouraged us to do stuff on our own. Also, nothing I've done on my own has made a dent. I'm sure it's added to a larger chorus, though.
Remember the bit I wrote in the link above, about great development teams being able to work together? About being able to follow the lead, even when you hate his or her directions? Do you honestly think Paragon's developers never spat on a team lead's idea before having to implement it anyway? In a perfect world, teams would agree with each other on every front, but this isn't a perfect world. If we make it through this, we'll do it as a team. We'll only fall divided. Because I assure you, if we're divided, then it gives NCSoft an insurmountable edge over us.
Unfortunately, you should also realize that for as vocal as I've been around here lately, hardly anyone will know who you mean when you mention 'Captain-Electric.' I have little or no earned credibility within this community. Again, I'm just trying to shout from a larger chorus, not spread dissent or something.
-
Speaking of dissent, it probably takes an average of four or five hours for any positive thread to scroll off the front page of General Discussion. There's a reason for that--most of the chorus has moved their forum activity over to the Titan Network already. This is exactly why I haven't bothered to sign up over there even though I'm one of their biggest fans. All it takes is two or three negative posters (or well-intentioned debates that spin into pages of arguments) to drown out dozens of positive messages, and I believe it's more important for people to keep posting good news on the main forums, than it is to give negative messages so much attention that it looks like we're practically begging NCSoft to acquiesce to our sense of apathy rather than to our sense of hope and determination.
-yea about that. If we are to stand as one, then we should look among each others as equals as all with a stake in this game. Not "oh that particular opinion dont matter" Or they are a troll because they disagree, as a few posters here already done with no hesitation" or even "they are more popular than you so your opinion is invalid". And I'm not talking about even ideas of implemention of anything. I'm talking about basic opinions. If I'm going help to save a community, I'm going to help save a community. So far I'm not exactly sure which this forum is over all. An actual community or a gaggle of troll callers that call anyone that dont agree with them a troll. While I prefer that my efforts go to saving a community, I dont mind saving the animals either. Until figure it out, I'ma try my best to save this game even if it's just to ensure that these troll callers have a place to go instead of going around and possibly dragging other communities down. Then not only would I save this game and make sure they have a home to stay in, I'm helping saving the entire gaming community from these troll callers. Yet, the problem with troll callers, is that they do drive away people from an already relatively slim community. If one of our hopes is to get another company to pick up the game, I doubt they will be itching to pick up a game with a community that is quickly falling apart. Sure some people might come back. But after spending double digit millions, some companies probably are not looking for that type of risk especially given the age of this game. And quicker this game falls apart, easier it is for NCSoft to go "Whew glad we killed that game quickly or else we would have started to lose money keeping it going." Or easier for them to just wait us out, which what they might already be tryign to do. From what I see, I dont think it got to the point of no repair but alot of pieces are falling off and going else where.
First thing to get united is to understand there will be differences of how to get there, but remember the common goal and respect those difference. If not, then no one will respect anyone, sides will be chosen, and then it will be about as divided as a community can get. I'm not sure about anyone else as I dont and never speak for anyone else but myself, is that I see some divisions forming already. And Im overall good either way. While I rather see this game kept and saved, especially after all the effort that has been placed into this cause, I wouldnt lose any sleep if the over all forum rather fight among themselves over petty stuff that is really not important, (well it seems as long as they win an online arguement and percieved as right, nothing else matters), and let this game fall off the face of the earth to be forgotten in four years. Then so be it. I'm only one person, and what happens to this game is up to the memebers. If they want to save it, then save it, and I'll join. If the forum decides overall they rather watch it burn and win as many online arguements as they can before it goes off, then sure, I'll bring the gasoline and hope they dont migrate to other games that I might be playing and wreak havoc over there. Hopefully this will be the last game that we have to do this to save. Now we all know it can happen to any game at anytime, profitable or not and people should be weary about investing that much time and money and not wanting to go down the tube at a flick of a decision from a CEO and a few board members. I think some may have learned the old lesson of "never invest and or gamble with more money and time that you will miss in something that is not guranteed." The COX roll system pulled a snake eyes on us and now it's up to us to see if we can at least leave with someone out of the effort to save this game.
But if push come to shove and fish hits the shan (exactly how I meant to type it) at the every turn, and Nov 30th comes and things all blackout, and maybe this forum too or maybe later than Nov. 30th, that is the real test. Right now, this is the warm up stage and so far already seeing some division. Now when the ideas for the new game really start popping off, and more people depending on which route is taken, put more money into it, and this and that and things start getting complicated, aka, the tough gets going, the petty stuff really will have to be put on the back burner or might as well hang it up now. So what if a person dont agree with another person. Maybe they are on to something, even if their entire statement is hard to understand. Too many people choose to focus on one little thing that they find questionable and focus on that and forget the rest of the post and point even existed. Right now, it's relatively harmless. In making a game, that is how many games dont survive beyond the beta stage if it barely makes it past the alpha stage. Someone with power, who may or may not have an idea how to create a game but think their opinion is worth ten time everyone else, and their friend's opinion are worth 4 times everyone else, and those that dont agree with him opinion dont matter. Unless that person is super popular, not many people have that many friends to keep a game going and profitable and usually have a high turn over rate in staff. And if people believe their opinion wont even be taken into account without being called a stupid idea, then some people will not speak and that could be lost opportunity on a great idea. Some people will not invest, and that could be more money going to maintaining and or creating the game. Some people will leave, and that decreases the population. And when it do crashes, no one will give a crap.
I've seen the reasons many want to save the game, NCSoft ill treatment of the situation, especially the devs, who put in alot of hard work to make this game work, was open minded, communicated, and basically about as close to a just another player as a dev could get. Now flip it and imagine if they didnt accept any feedback from the player base, thought they was better than everyone else and treated the players like that, and basically built a game for the devs themselves to play and you're nothing but a mere money drop to keep it going. The game would have been dead a long time ago and I bet there would not even be 1% of the type of outrage that has been seen here.
What I hope dont happen is that this effort and tough road to save the spirit of this game pays off only to be replaced by people like mentioned in the end of the above section (paragraph). Then what would have been the point of it all? A vision of the spirit of COX as a select few view it or is this for a vision of the spirit of COX for everyone that played COX? -
Quote:What ever you say. I guess you didnt read the warning at all. That's on you.Evil, you can write this post and stay in this thread, but I think it's ineffective. And good grief, do you perform Senate fillibusters? 'Cause I think you'd be a natural..
Basically, you're telling Tony to STFU when YOU don't like it, and I find THAT to be an excercise in the very thing you're rallying against. Think about that, and I'll see y'all later. *eject*
/Gotta give ya an 8 outta 10 for the troll factor. Nicely done.
//TonyV, you keep on keepin' on, and just exit the thread if you come back in. Evil needs no further replies.
And no that is not what I'm saying, anymore than TonyV, your idol, told other people. -
Quote:Quotes of TonyVHave I missed something? I'm not sure that I have read any threads that sound like what you are describing, other than a few that started out with an OP that wanted to flamebomb Amazon reviews for GW2 or something of that nature.
And a few of those, I was one of the first to say what a *bad* idea I thought that would be - counterproductive at best, and possibly destructive because most people don't respond well to what seems to be crazy behavior - in fact, often, such behavior gives them a "reason" to ignore the position you are trying to promote, which you agree, is trying to prevent the game from being shut down permanently.
My position agrees with TonyV's. Because my experience has been - based on more than 30 years in the working world and dealing with negotiating and politics (yes, this situation involves politics as does any interaction among more than a couple of people) - stating a position calmly and consistently is a better method than taking extreme positions or trying to retaliate.
Evil_Legacy, you clearly have passion. I'm sorry that you feel that trying to persuade with the methods that Titan Network is asking others to use rubs you the wrong way. Generally, we have let TonyV take the point on this - someone has to, after all. But I honestly don't recall seeing him disrespecting anyone.
One thing I have seen, which seems to be one of your triggers - is ask why someone who "may or may not care" or is fine with "sitting there and letting the game go and then move on" cares if others want to take efforts to try for a different outcome because we definitely DO care.
You seem to want to champion their right to state they don't care, which I acknowledge they have, but in response, since this is a public forum, some folks will try to persuade them that it's not absolutely the end yet, we are still trying stuff to get a different outcome.
"I'm saying that IF you don't give a flip, then I don't care* and don't let the door hit you where the good lord split you. I still stand by that."
-So basically if they just so happen to not care, even though they may have invested their time and money and maybe not emotion into the game, then they should leave. Kind of disrectful to some one who just metioned that they dont feel sad.
"But if all you (the reader of this post, not SuperOz) want to do is come here and tell us how little you care, that's really pathetic."
-If they care little and that is their feeling, then that is what they are feeling just as some people feel angery, sad, hopeful or what ever. It's like them telling you that hoping for a long shot is pathetic.
"You don't have to be an avid member of a community to have the bare decency to not want to see it go away."
-Ok this one may not be so bad. But what is so indecent about wanting ot not caring about if the game lives on or not? Maybe they didnt have the same cheery good feeling experience in the game as others and rightfully so, just as much so as people with good feelings from good experiences have, to feel a bit jaded about it. That's like telling a **** victim to stop belly aching because it's their fault they got *****.
"So are you the only one who's not upset? Of course not. But please, I see no purpose in advertising your apathy to us. If you want to go, then go, and let those of us who are continuing to fight continue to fight."
-I dont see stating how you feel as advertising anything or anymore than any other post or the Save the COX posts. If that is how that person feel, that is how that person feel. If you expect them to respect those that are trying to keep their minds on the happy times, then maybe they should respect those that may not have such a sunny outlook too. Respect goes both ways not just one way.
Topic: State of the Titan TonyV basically states there is little chance that NCSoft will reverse their decision. People have been saying this since the beginning. Yet, they got called types of names up and down from everything from pessimistic to trolling. Yet TonyV on the 22 of Sept. says the exact same points, and even says he is just being realistic, and not a single negative comment. Yet, when people earlier said the same thing, and said they was being realistic, it was called alot of negative stuff. SO what I gather from this is that it's ok TonyV to be realistic but not others. Or was that they was suppose to wait for TOnyV to get realistic before they could? That is a bit of a double standard. -
I'm aiming for regular news.

Quote:Cool, what is that about 1/5th of the peak population? I think a little more than a quarter will have to get someone, even if the receptionist, to notice. A third, some management should raise an eyebrow. Half, someone near the top should be looking over it. More than half, if the CEO is left in the dark then and not hear of it, it would be sad. Ofcourse that is assumed verified signatures. Why havent this hit Yahoo news or the likes or even been given a TV spot? Hell, WoW loses a few players and it makes the news.City of Heroes Petition Reaches 20,000 Signatures

Dear NCSoft: is honor important to you?
There's still time to honor your customers, NCSoft. We've been loyal to you for eight years. Now, we're giving you the opportunity to show your gratitude. To show your honor. To make all of us come out of this looking great. Please help give City of Heroes/Villains another home for its loyal fans.
Yes I know NCSoft will never read this OP. But if you're looking for a quick copy/paste to dump all over the Web in comments sections under various news articles about City of Heroes, here's an idea for your copy/paste Notepad file. -
probably eventually. If not this year, the next and not the next a few years later, but eventually. I think some of those people that are planning various things are determined enough to see it through.
-
yea I hope it is saved in some fashion but if not yea life does goes on.

Quote:To be blunt I expect you to respect those people who dont feel the same with you just as much as you ask them to respect the people that are trying to keep the hope alive instead of jumping on them when they even remotely say, they mayor may not care about the game. ANd if someone decides to go at it alone, just like you dont want people putting down your efforts or saying negative things about it, dont put their efforts down by saying things like "ok, but it's ineffective." Just as you told the people that follow you to keep doing what they doing, I hope the people may have stuck out on their own do the same and dont let you put them down. In a nutshell, the point is, if you expect people to respect your work and efforts and the others on Titan, try to respect others. If you want people to understand and feel what you all are trying to achieve as you stated, then respect them for what they are trying to achieve, even if it's just sitting there and letting the game go and then moving on. That is all.You can ask, but I can't answer. It has nothing to do with whose path is being followed; it has to do with what is being done. I provided an option that I know would be more effective for what they're trying to do. I never said, "Don't do what you're planning."
To be blunt, this is your problem, not mine. I have repeatedly said that people are free to do whatever they want to try to save the game; they don't have to get my permission or approval. And indeed, a lot of people have taken the initiative to do a lot of things--things that have been very constructive and useful. I might offer my opinion or my advice based on stuff I might know that they don't, stuff I can't explain or expound on, but I can't make them do (or not do) anything. If someone trusts me, great! If they don't, hey, no hard feelings, and good luck. If I'm wrong and you end up singlehandedly saving City of Heroes, I'll be more than giddy at your success.
I'm not sure what you expect. For me to actively work on getting people not to trust me? For everyone to just split up and work on everything individually? For me to sit back and let people do things that I know are ineffective or even destructive without saying anything about it and trying to nudge them in a more productive direction? If that's what it will take for you to think I'm not some sort of egomaniacal dictator, I guess you're going to have to think I'm some sort of egomaniacal dictator. It's a shame, because I really think that I am a pretty nice guy that's easy to get along with. -
"Another Quaalude, and they'll be back again."

Just wished they got rid of that blasted aggro limit.

Might make it line up with when the lights are suppose to go out but if I miss it, no biggy. I'm sure I'll here a lot about it one way or another. Wait...does that mean this forum is going to go blank on that day too? Then I may not hear about it.When Thursday, November 29th comes to an end, and the clock ticks over to 12:00AM (Pacific) to November 30th, how will you be spending it, assuming you are still on the game?
Will you be dancing in Pocket D?
Will you be holding torches in Atlas?
Will you be running missions/trials/tfs?
Will you be in a group fighting the Rikti invasion?
Will you be screaming in broadcast that you want to live?
I haven't decided yet where I'll be moments for the global map-serve occurs.
It will be 3:00AM for me in the EST. -

And it will all play itself out eventually, one way or another, no matter who wastes time writing great trollin' walls o' text in the meantime.

Got mine in the bank yesterday. Not sure how I overlooked it that any times. Oh well, now, what to do with it is the question.

Quote:<----This.I've also never said that you have to 100% agree with me or what I'm doing. I won't name names, but I've already run into someone who I suspect thinks that I'm just way off track and has decided to pursue their own path. I've sent some messages basically saying, "I don't think that would be productive, I think this other way is the best of course of action," messages I think have pretty much been ignored. But hey, more power to 'em. I don't think they're being particularly destructive, just not particularly effective.
So are they not particular effective for what reason might I ask? Because they are pursuing their own path and not the one you or TitanNetwork members laid out? Or are they doing something that is not such a bright idea, that is besides striking out on their own accord?
I'm truly interested in the answer because it's quotes like these that make it seems that the only way is your way. So I rather get it cleared up instead of thinking wrong about the entire situation. -

Quote:Nah I think you just speak your own mind and what's on it and what you see. Nothing wrong with that in my view. It's pretty simple. Some people feel like other people are behaving like jerks. Everyone has different definitions, preferences, tolerances and expectations of what exactly being and/or acting-like a jerk is.
I really don't know how I come off on these forums or where people on any side of a debate want to place me, but yeah, I do look at the situation and prefer the spreading of positivity. Not blind optimism or anything like that. However, I also feel like a lot of the negativity I see some people nearly constantly posting is rather lousy, uncalled for and, in most cases, unhelpful and/or detrimental.
Detrimental to the chances of the game being saved (this is the lesser possibility in my opinion, but it still can impact it, no doubt), detrimental to the community overall (who wants to hear someone constantly spewing negativity? And who is the negativity directed at? Is it just to make yourself feel better? So is passing gas, but it's preferred if you move away first, please!) and detrimental to other people trying to deal with their own feelings and issues regarding losing this pastime, game and the community (we know some people have an enormous personal investment in all of this. I'm not going to judge them harshly for it... normal people work every day and then sit in front of the tv before passing out... People all over the place are heavily dependent on silly pastimes... and some people are in far worse situations, through no fault of their own, where their pastimes become much more meaningful and important and I'll gladly try and help them keep this game).
Heh, I imagine that some of the more negative-minded people would think me some follower-sheep or some sheltered, self-appointed adjudicator of morality... And that is rather humorous to me and to those who know me, but... Hey, it's worth the laugh. And, yeah, I've never been one to hold my tongue and it's not always pretty or positive, but I damn well have respect for overall situations and other people's concerns and I can't simply coldly look at this current situation and say, "Nyah... I'll post every day about my negative feelings regarding x, y or z... deal with it, forum fops!".
Nah, I'm just doing what I generally have always done around here... I crack jokes, I speak positively about what I believe is good and I try and confront untruths, rudeness and help anyone in the many small ways that people sometimes are looking for.
What does all this mean?
Nothing!
Carry on. Pat me on the back, kick me in the ***, ignore me, disagree with me... whatever.
Just don't misplace my speaking out against your negativity as anything more than this guy disagreeing with your approach.
And, as others have said... it's not the dissenting message or simple disagreement! Please! We'd all be completely ####'d (and I'd be bored out of my mind) if everyone happily agreed with everyone, hehe.
Most often, it's the manner in which it is expressed. Unfortunately (and I say this with zero maliciousness), most often, the people who express themselves in those ways, truly don't realize that the way they express themselves is seen as negatively as it is by most people.
So, what the hell can ya do about that?
So, yeah... let's all disagree where we disagree... But let's all just have some ####ing fun, eh? Sound good?
'Sup Tony?
Greatest rock bands ever? Beatles, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Doors
By the way, anyone who disagrees is totally a troll.
I would love to just agree to disagree and get it done and have some fun.
And I think this is why I prefer face to face talk. When online, there is too much guessing. one negative makes the whole thing seem overly negative, even though if spoken face to face, it would only seem like, "Hm ok, this guy didnt have a good time." Here its "ZOMG!!! YOU TROLLL!!!" even with the same words.
