Quote:yea, I know people want to save the game but just as annoying it for people say Game over game over over and over it's just as annoying if not more when people keep repeating it's not over it's not over it's not over. This denial thing is getting really old.
Yes, occasionally the odds get defied. However, those cases are a severe minority.
Also, this is no longer about "odds" per se. Frankly, it never was. NCSoft owns CoX, and all final decisions about it are theirs. Said final decision was made back in August. Everything that's happened since then is pure theatre.
I dont mind it though but it's more annoying when some people complain about people saying game over and over but seem to find it not annoying for people to repeat it's not over over and over. I see each would be equally annoying. From a straight logical perspective of repeating things over and over regardless of the words.
I think the save the heros thing is a good thing and it's interesting to see the tenacity of the people. Although at this point it's starting to look a little less organized than usual and more like trying to internet bully anyone that dont feel great sadness and depression and not thinking about killing themselves over the situation. Really not a good way to convince someone to join the cause or even mention to someone about COX and the effort. -
Quote:yea, they probably will take that information to the grave with them.Unfortunately, only NCSoft knows for sure if they were ever seriously considering any offers or just "humoring" interested parties by going through the motions of negotiations. By acknowledging our efforts, they confirmed that they were indeed listening to us, but obviously nothing we said or did was enough to influence their final decision.
It would be nice to hear the details of those "negotiations" from someone involved, just to know what specifically was discussed. But I doubt we'll ever get much info. -
And that has what to do with the subject of allowing people to have different feelings?
-
Quote:yes.Couldn't care less...if they could care less then they care for you at least a little bit. We don't want people thinking that they care about you or that you care about them caring about you or not caring. Because, well...you don't care and we don't want that misinformation getting out.
-
Now you're trying to tell me what I'm saying when I know what I'm saying? You know what, I feel that your mind is not open anyways to anything I say. You seem to have your mind made up that anyone that says they are not bawling and feeling suicidal because of the end of the game is trying to convince people. So lets skip the horsecrap. If this is how the convo is going to be with you not taking any consideration at all and go through less of the motions than NCSoft supposedly did with the negos. process and on top of that now telling me, like you are me, what I meant, what would be the point of continue to even talking about this?
When it gets to the point that you are now telling me what I said when it's clearly typed, and I told you what I said, I see no point to even go any further.
You think however you want if your mind is made up and I will think however I want.
The fate of the game is sealed already for doom if people cant get past the petty "Oh they dont agree with me so they should leave" talk. Maybe individual solo personal servers are better so that people can play only with themselves so they dont have to worry about any other ideas or thoughts/feelings but their own and everyone is happy. People still get to play and everyone on their one man server agrees with their every thought. -
Quote:+1I hope you get a response. Wonder if for something snotty like maybe he doesn't want to completely turn this forum over to passive aggresive cyber bullies (you know like somewhere else). Or maybe he has an agenda he's trying to convince others of like he may not like an outcome, but he gets that when it comes to things out of his control he can accept a "no" answer. Or maybe he has compassion for his fellow players and wants to facilitate the grieving and healing process. Or maybe he is search of viable alternatives in a bad situation. Or maybe he is just as tried of people braying over and over to no avail as much as you are of downer messages.
I hope you get a response. I'm pretty sure my shut up and go away reply will follow in short order. -

Quote:Nope that is not what I'm saying at all. That's a very roundabout way of saying you are in fact trying to convince people to dismiss their emotional investments.
What I'm saying is that you complain about people trying to convince other people when most of the time they are not trying to convince anyone of anything. Yet, most of the comments that seems to come off as trying to convince someone to change their view is coming from the people that do feel they have an emotional investment. It's their feelings just as the opposite of what they feel is your feelings.
I dont see why you want them to allow you to have your feelings without question or convincing, as you call it, but have yet to even bothered to show the same respect.
What? They are not allowed to show any feelings that run counter to your feelings?
You should know the answer to that. Same reason you are trying to convince them that their view or lack of emotional investment is wrong. Why is their lack of emotional investment is wrong? Why when anyone even utters that "it's just a game" people try to convince them otherwise? Why not just let them have their emotions or lack of? Why is your emotions so much more important than theirs? -
Even on that level, what happened? Did they just up and decided they had enough or what? Or we became too much annoyance and didnt want to deal with anyone? Or they listened considered it and still said no? Or what?
-
Quote:Nope, I'm just a person. Nothing more nothing less. Ask one person I'm great person, ask another, I'm the scum of the earth and it all depends on their mood, how they feel whether I like the same political party as they do and show up at their kid's birthday party or forget to visit to visit them in hospital and etc. It's all irrelevant. In the end it wont matter not a single bit.Like I said, I believed it when you said that you're good at your job. Just don't go thinking that being good at your job also means you're a good person. I couldn't do your job, because I don't have the stomach to throw someone out in the cold, even if not doing so resulted in my own dismissal.
If you care about people then you can do the job. Remember that you are actually saving/protecting hundreds and in some cases, thousands of people's health and lives by ensuring that the establishment is the cause of illnesses. People still die from various types of food-borne diseases more often then you think. That is the mindset probably of most of us.
Ever seen pics of nasty food places and wonder how in the world or why no one addressed the issue until people died and or news cameras got a hold of it? That is a sign that someone in my field wasnt doing their job properly. When a case like that happens, it usually spells the end of that establishment, loss of faith in our job field, and still the establisment owner still will have to close down and probably never be able to open again due to lost customers and bad reputation, people get ill and die, and still someone usually the person who did the shabby job of enforcement still gets fired. Compared to being hated in the morning and maybe closing down a place, owner lossing money, and no one getting sick or dying and staying out the media meaning they have greater chance of cleaning up their reputation, and you keeping your job. -
Quote:I'm not trying to convince peopel to dismiss their emotional investment and call it trivial anymore or less than they are trying to convince me to have more emotional investment and my feelings are trivial.Yes, they are realistically attempting to convince people, through the medium of the internet, they should dismiss an emotional investment as being trivial because of their say-so.
One group of people is hoping for a miracle. The other thinks there's a system for winning the lottery.
If they want people to stop trying to "convince" them then they should stop trying to convince people themselves.
If people have an emotional investment, that is great. If they dont that is great. As soon as someone says "Well it was just a game for me." Here they come saying "It wasnt jsut a game, it was more than a game. Stop being negative and etc." Either view is just as valid as the other. If you and they want that to happen, you and they must do what you are asking others to do before making that request. Just as you dont want people to say thier emotional investment is trivial because they say so, dont go around aying their lack of emotional investment is trivial because you say so. -
Quote:I believe that good people may exist but dont seem like many people are willing to show it, that is until something happens that hits home. It's like a millionaire who wife dies of cancer. Prior, he never gave a single dime to any charity but now that it affects him personally all of a sudden he becomes the leading philan. to cancer preventing researc hin the world. If his wife would have never died, he would have never given a crap even though if he was giving to the reseach earlier, maybe they could of used that money to find the proper cure for it and she'd still be alive. Until some people are put into a situation, they dont care or have a very odd way of showing that they care about other people, espcially on this board, where there people supposedly from different areas, age ranges, backgrounds and etc. and yet still, have no regards for others. All they care about is being right and proving people wrong. There are probably some good people on this board but most, like in real life, remain silent.
This worries and saddens me
People think it's great leaders that change history for the better. They are wrong. What changes history for the better is countless small acts of kindness.
Apologising with a smile if you bump into someone in the street. Waiting at a junction to let another motorist or pedestrian out with a wave of the hand. Stopping to pick up and return something that a struggling burdened shopper has dropped.
You cannot put a price on such acts, and here's the best part - they're contagious. It costs you nothing to stop and help in a small way, but the person you're helping will remember. Maybe their day has been utterly awful to that point, but out of the blue this one small act of kindness by a stranger lifts them up just a little.
So they go off with that in their heart and, if you're lucky, they pay that kindness forward themself, and so it spreads.
But here's the bad part - the FLIPSIDE is also true. If you're mean, cruel or even indifferent to someone, then they will remember that and begin to believe that everyone is mean, cruel or indifferent.
I happen to know that society is full of good people. Sure, the scaremongering news media would have you believe otherwise, but it's always wise to remember that something only make the news if it's aberrant. The everyday isn't 'news'. So yes, society is actually full of good people. The reason I know this for a certainty is because society is still here. If society was made up entirely of bad people, none of us would be here having this conversation now.
So logically, the balance is in favour of good over bad. And for my part, I intend to keep pushing society towards good, one small act of kindness at a time.
If someone insults me, it may have nothing to do with me at all. It may be because they've had a bad day - or even that someone insulted them earlier. I don't want to be in the position where an insult I give to someone finds itself transferred to some other poor person later, so I don't insult people. I can't possibly know anything about that person, or what life they have to put up with, or why they may be in a foul mood that day...but what I can do is not make their day worse. And if I can make their day better, then maybe - just maybe - that will help the world to be better. Eventually.
The meek won't inherit the Earth - they already own it, they're just too polite and unassuming to say so
In real life I seen the same thing. I just stopped caring about it and minding my own buisness and stopped caring about people who could care less about me. At least the relationship is balanced and mutual instead of one sided.
I dont even bother watching the news. -
Quote:The code is the law. If they are within code, they go on as usual. If not and the code says in the situation that they must close, of course, then they will have to close and no matter how many tears, pleas, money, food, sob stories offered, they will close. If they dont want to be in that situation, stay within the code.My impression was more specifically that he's a restaurant health code inspector.
As for that part... he did seem to be rather proud of the fact that he'll crush someone's business for not being up to code, regardless of their circumstances. I can't really say that a bureaucrat is either constructive or destructive, just that the occupation has an array of pros and cons several times longer than those of most other businesses. -
Quote:Yep.I'm certain there have been instances where I'm doing my job and people would apply that term or terms with a similar sentiment to me (I've actually been referred to as "Hitler" for refusing to haggle over rates). However, most of those people were - or likely were - trying to get away with something/get something for nothing. I've found that the sentimentality that is evoked in order to manipulate me in such an instance is only worth as much as the trust/respect that the person evoking it has earned - which, in most cases, is nil or less.
Were I in a position responsible for enforcing rules governing public health and safety, sentimentality would have even less place.
You think the establishment owner will come to the aid when fish hit the shan? Think they are going to say "Well they only let me pass because I begged them to allow me to stay open. It's all my fault." Nope, more the case is more often "Well see the inspector said I passed. If I was doing something wrong, they should of wrote it down." Seen a lot of fellow co-workers trying to be sentimental and end up getting burnt and the establisment owner did not even bother to send an apology for the troubles letter or anything. It was buisness as usual for them and the co-workers now are in the unemployment line for trying to put sentimentality before the code. -
-
nah, for that, there would have to be an actus reus (guilty act) aka me doing a crime that put a person in harms way or ending up with someone injured. Which could have been possible if there was a duty to rescue law, but there is not and thus no activity on my part that wasa crime that caused negligent harm to that person. He got himself into a situation and I chose not to get involved not one bit.
-
Nope, his situation, his problem. Plus outside those ten states in my prior post, there is no law that says a person must render aid to a victim.
--An accessory is a person who assists in the commission of a crime, but who does not actually participate in the commission of the crime as a joint principal.
Maybe if anything a witness to a crime and I dont think that is the against the law either.
But you think I would make a good NCSoft exec? -
Quote:In some few states, I believe you are legally required to at least notify the authorities/call 911 in such a situation.
yep. California, Florida, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Ohio, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington and Wisconsin. It didnt happen in any of those sates. Vermont being the only one that states that you must aid a victim. -
Quote:hmmm...Well since we are delving into real life here. I'm probably would be considered a bit more "chilly" near the heart in real life than I appear on here. Probably why I'm so good at my job. In my line of work, I dont care about feelings, I dont care about how you will feed your family in the morning, I dont care if someone is going to blow your head clean off if you cant pay up. You did not follow the code and thus according to the code your food establishment will close down right now.Because people, even some bad people, can still be worthy, wonderful people that go and do amazing things. I personally know a small number of one-timed hardened criminals, people that have stolen, mugged, shot, stabbed, had multiple felonies, to become some amazing, loving, humble people that I'm privelaged to know.
To be willing to watch someone burn because they pissed you off over "nit-picking" speaks an order of magnitude about a near insane level of apathy or some type of behavioral disorder. Either way, it's a really unhealthy behavior. I can only hope you're trying to put me on, and you're posting this way because you "can" on the inter-webs and all, but if as I said before, if you're even being genuine in anyway, seek help.
With people, I help people that I feel woud do the same for me and or have my well being at heart. If they dont seem to care about me in any capacity then I cant care about them in any capacity. I have done it before and not lose a bit of sleep seem someone walking down the road that was acting pretty dang rude to me a few days prior, in the snow with two kids and kept driving with no hesitation. I've been in a situation when this one guy passed out on the sidewalk yet I kept going about my way as usual and didnt feel anything once I found out he kicked the bucket. Just another death out of the thousands that happen everyday. Seen a person that was rude to me in a store line ended up getting into with a few other guys that stabbed him up pretty bad. Of course then all of a sudden he wanted to be nice and pleading me to call 911. I ignored him, got in my car and drove away. Not even sure if he made it or not. I'm sure eventually someone helped him out. So yea, I'd just watch them. The smell of burning flesh doesnt bother me much, although it's not a good scent. I bet some of these guys wouldnt put me out and probably opt to lecture on how well they spell and never make spelling mistakes and etc. So again, why would I put them out?
And I do not post anything on the web that I wouldnt say in real life to an actual person face to face. You are not the first person to inquire about that subject and probably wont be the last. -
Quote:You are not exactly the epitome of maturity yourself, squirrel. It may have been that I was on occasion if I had a strong opinion on a topic, but then I'm pretty sure there were other topics that I agreed with you on just as strongly and aggravated others.
Ah yes puppy dog girl. She stopped posting shortly after I called her on the BS story she was spouting about how she couldn't get her money back on her LTS to CO. I think what upset her the most was my posting screenshots of the unedited posts she made a month earlier stating she got refunded the money on her LTS.
Edit:
Oh look here's a new one that has me giggling. Obviously a Harvard man from his eloquence. <snicker>
[/SIZE]
Don't you love knowing your future of the world rests in the hands of mature people like him?
Anyway back on topic.
I noticed also today that my friends list disappeared. I'm hoping it was a bug and I don't have to go back and re-enter everything. I'll check next time I log in. -
Quote:Why would I put them out? They given me not a single bit of insentive to help them out, love nit-picking just for the sake of nit-picking to get a rise out of people, and apparently think they are perfect incarnate.Really?
If that's a joke, I fail to see it.
I've always thought grammar-nazis were a bit overbearing, as my rule of thumb for internet grammar on an english board is not everyone may be an english speaker and therefore not have perfect grammar.
But to say you'd watch them burn. Even if a fraction of you is at all serious, seek medical help. That is not a joke or a put down.
I wouldnt want them to complain about me not putting the fire out to their perfect standards now would I? -
Yea like employers actually care about how people type on a game forum. *rolls-eyes* Riiiiiiight.

Quote:Glad I'm not the only one who see the annoyance in the crazy habit of people waking around like they are the gods of spelling going around correcting people like they dont make spelling mistakes.Maybe you ...Who knows..yeah, I will. I wasn't whining a ss hole.. I was making a joke..*** in prik...now complain about my spelling...fu ck face...man you're stupid...unmoded threads are great aren't they..D ick, read what I said, and if you really did you are really stupid and I feel sorry for those who know you and have to deal with your misunderstandings cause they must be many after what I just read...OR your're a little kid..that would be understandable...
ANYWAY I will miss this game, but not many on this forum for this reason...F uckhead GEEZ
Im with you on that Cherokee, those people wont be missed at all. Even if they was lit on fire on my front porch, I'd sit and watch them burn and call the ambulance when ever I get around to it if I feel like dialing numbers. Well then again I probably wont bother because I wouldnt want them to complain about me not pressing the right numbers. So I guess I'd let them burn. -
Quote:I think worse case scenario for them is that they completely uproot and leave the American/EU market. The sad part is I doubt they will miss it since it only make up about maybe 1% of their player base. They can open up a new game in China and make up for the loss.We. Can.
It's easy.
Step 1) Do not EVER buy ANYTHING remotely associated with them.
Step 2) Advise *anyone* you hear about buying from them understand who they're dealing with.
Step 3) Make it loudly and widely known what NCSoft is good for: bad business practices and even worse customer loyalty, in that there's no endgame, no decent sunsetting, no warning to the poor Devs, just... Poof. And worse, they will *horde* the IP and store it away rather than sell it or give it away as a good will gesture.
---
I understand that last is a business decision to protect the possibles, but honestly. If they're not going to make a CoH2 with Paragon Studios, then what the HELL is the point? So they give it up, and it flourishes... If they sell it, the get money, and they're done. If they don't, but the give it up as PD or just... not pursue C&Ds, they get money because people think well of them, and won't mind buyin' from them.
Bad enough they're shutting it down, but simply put, hoarding the IP means that this person here will NEVER TOUCH another NCSoft *anything*. Period.
And this person here hasn't knowingly bought or supported anything to do with Sony, MSI motherboards, or AMD/ATI for quite a long time, and will continue to do so, for very similar reasons: They suck. For me, anyway, and I just simply will not buy them. There are other companies, but these three are my big targets of "Bags of Nope". (I will say that MSI video cards were really good stuff, so it's just the Mobos. 10 of 10 going bad out of an order of 10 boxes you had to warranty will make you go that way. Can't be doin' that in a small business.)
I know I shouldn't be all mean and such for the very now-dim possibility that Co* could still get transferred to better ownership, but I simply don't care now. NCSoft, in the words of Bender, can bite my shiny metal butt. If I had one. Which I don't. Beside the point, the meaning is the key.
---
That being said, all efforts to continue the transfer of Co* are to be kept up, and loudly. They are cowering, now is the time to strike harder. And with a little more vinegar than before.
They will cave, or they will die. It's their choice now to make something happen, because *they can*. They **CHOOSE** to be jerks about this now, with that stupid letter.
IF it comes to pass that Co* escapes from the grubby mitts of NCSoft's, and they allowed it to happen... then maybe, just maybe, we can call off the dogs of "Don't Buy NCSoft. Ever."
I probably need to stop now. Sorry. Got me riled, this whole thing...
Mike
But you are right about what we can do.
Not buy another product from them, spread the word and stuff, but it wont have that much of an effect on NCSoft as a whole. I doubt they are even cowering or let alone losing a bit of sleep right now. We are not that big of a threat, maybe what 20,000-40,000 strong now compared to the millions of players they do still have in their other markets. We are not their only customers. Probably more like a side project more than anything. -
Some AE arcs were very good well written and interesting but seemed like a person had to dig through a lot of crappy ones that was created for farming, someone fooling around, or someone that may have lacked the story telling ability to get to the good ones.
