Quote:I have always viewed the Khelds as being the Goauld and Tokra because how similar the stories are. Its kind of like that took that and the Star Trek trill thing and just ran with it.You know...
I recently watched the series "Jericho" for the first time. All throughout the series, whenever something ominous was about to begin, they would use the the Kheldian form-transform sound effect.
It's funny because I mainly play a Warshade and watched the series while playing CoH. So everytime I'd be running around, while the show was on, I'd stop in my tracks and rotate the camera view to see what Kheldians were in my area transforming. I didn't realize it till about 2 episodes later that it was actually the show. -
I loved SG-1, liked Atlantis, universe was kind of meh. Where Atlantis went wrong was putting that Dr. Weir in charge of everything. She consistently made the worst decisions and only made things worse. Kind of reminds me of Captain Janeway on Voyager where she always wanted to stop on every single planet constantly putting her crew in danger over and over. She by far went thru the most Red-Shirts in star trek than any other series.
As for as where the stargate universe went wrong is not enough involvement with some of the original actors from the previous series. Too much involvement with the non-military personal. It just seemed so un-realistic that this many non- prepared people would have gotten stranded like this. Lastly what I hated was all the focus on the love stories. Those were pointless and just showed how shallow some of the characters were. However I have new appreciation for who the Ancients were because of how old that ship was but yet it was still so advanced despite being 70 million+ years old.
How they could have redeemed both series and made them as successful as the original is the following: Killed off Dr. Weir by the 2nd episode, change the main villain in the series to something else instead of the Wraith. It seemed like they were trying to hard to cash in on the Twilight vampire series. For stargate universe they could have put more prepared staff instead of throwing in a group of misfits together. Next is not focus so much on the love triangles. That crap has been done to death. Action is where its at. -
If you guys would make this global you would open up so many powersets to me that I previously avoided. Anything with knockback usually got skipped or I never created the toon if it was too much knockback. I know energy blasters would rejoice if this was global.

Stalkers have drastically changed since this update. Much more fun to play. If you manage to get the full stalker IO set put it in AS it gets even better on damage. Pretty much every stalker from here on out should put a really heavy focus towards recharge.

Quote:Cuz it sucks. Its so much worse since they made every single mez hit you regardless of what you play. Also I am against the give everyone resistance to everything BS they did where it makes your damage type irrelevant. Ah and lets not forget it spawned a ton of unneeded changes that bleed into pve that still need to be rolled back. Besides pvp IOs drop rates are way too low to make me ever go there.I saw another thread about Zwil, and this made me wonder a bit as to why it is I never set foot into a PVP zone. Through word of mouth I hear only 5% of players ever go there. I can count myself as part of the 95% who don't, but I am starting to wonder what it is that makes me part of that 95%. I have very little experience in the matter, but nothing quite so concrete to make me shy away from PVP in the game...
Now, I can go and make some 3 page report on my thoughts as to why it is I never go slugging it out with someone else in the game, but who wants to read that? So, for now while I collect my thoughts I come to the players to ask why it is you don't PVP yourself. -
This^^^^ Most definitely. It just makes me mad that I can not really get much use out of my first lvl 50 villian simply because the ninjas die so fast. What good is having this awsome damage if you almost never get to use it due to paper thin defense and wacky AI issues. Essentially what was done to Jack Frost on the recent update needs to be done to Ninjas to make them alot better.

Quote:I feel that our anger towards marketing is justified. They are the one thing that has truly kept this game from reaching its maximum potential. We hardly see any advertisement for this game except in the least impact places, crappy magazines and one product placement on a crappy tv show hardly anyone watches. Seriously then they go and pull the no staff fighting till now but force feed us all these fake companion pets that do nothing and IOs that can be easily gotten in game and you guys try to say you do not want to be perceived as trying to get our money. Dont make me laugh. All I can say is the next time something big like this is announced or worked on DO NOT make us wait an excessive amount of time on it.I never said it wasn't coming in April.
- We confirmed, on Tuesday, that Staff Fighting was coming to the Paragon Market on the 17th (next Tuesday).
- We've not given a release date for any Powerset to be released via the Paragon Market beyond a weeks notice.
I do understand excitement, I do understand wanting to play a new Powerset. I've certainly taken some of the frustration expressed over the development cycle and passed it along to the interested parties.
At the same time, I need to address something.
We're seeing an awful lot of very, very snide remarks and personal attacks directed at marketing and business development. I know it's easy, and popular, to point fingers at "Evil Marketing", but this sentiment has been extremely over the top lately. As I've clarified before, Community does not equate to Marketing here at Paragon. That does not mean that we're not all working towards the same goal.
Just as I will step in and say something when comments are going over the top towards development, I am doing the same thing with Marketing. You are more than encouraged to be critical of our practices, and to express your feedback as such. What is not acceptable are the personal insults we've seen as of late. This needs to stop. Our Business Development/Marketing team has been very successful in their strategy behind the Paragon Market release calendar, so let's please give them the credit they deserve for doing their part to help keep City of Heroes strong and sustainable for the foreseeable future.
I will always do my absolute best to keep everyone appraised as to how soon items are coming to the market. This may be done either directly, or through tongue in cheek hints. Please reference the Snow Globe "Zwillinger Soon™ chart" (I'm sure someone will link to it).
Thanks guys, and let's get ready to hit things with sticks.

Quote:Seriously what the hell logic is this. You dont tell us how to spend our money. You have it totally backwards as usual for what the customer actually thinks and sees. I could give a crap about all those enhancements you guys are releasing especially since they are so easy to get in game now. Your marketing department has always been epic phail and why this game will never reach its true potential. Everyone one of them needs to be replaced if they think this is how to get customers. What a lively morning!
We're extremely happy and flattered that so many of you are so excited for Staff Fighting. While I know many of you are upset that it's not released now, we also have to be responsible with the cadence of releases on the Paragon Market.
What do I mean by that?- We do not want to release Powersets on top of each other. There needs to be separation between the releases of new toys so that people who are excited by them all, which is much of our Community, have time to play with each.
- If we release too many Powersets too quickly, it could be seen as a grab at your Paragon Points, and subsequently, your money. While we certainly appreciate you buying Paragon Points, we also have to be responsible with how we encourage you to spend with us.
- We have to balance perception. There has been a perception we've been focusing on melee Powersets recently. Real or not, these sentiments need to be taken into account.
- Various other reasons.
Again, we're extremely flattered and grateful for the excitement being shown about Staff Fighting. Take comfort in the fact that your stick waving itch should be scratched Very Soon™. -

I cant even get mad anymore I been let down so many times. For the love of Gawd, Devs, marketing whoever, STOP STRINGING US ALONG WITH THE STAFF FIGHTING!!!! This has been one of the most anticipated powersets in the history of CoH and you guys cant deliver? If its a sound issue still you guys can fix it later. Just like how you go and alter sounds for crap that was perfectly fine after the fact. If this keeps up I am not even going to care about the powerset when it finally does come out because the enthusiasm will be gone.

Quote:What kind of crack you smoking? Stalkers are better yes but there still needs to be more buffage. What I sooner see happening is them breaking the cottage rule and give some of the aoes back, specifically to MA and EM. Right now those are way too single target oriented. That argument fails with recent power creep sets like Kinetic Melee, Street Justice, and soon Staff Fighting. KM lost it's worst AoE nobody cares about and has an auto crit, StJ kept BOTH AoEs, and Staff is only losing it's really bad AoE.
This doesn't 'balance out', and Assassin's Strike WILL be normalized. That's a fact. I'm simply saying it's far too powerful right now until they're all normalized. It won't change much, but it will be a nerf to Kinetic Melee. Which.. doesn't honestly need it.
StJ does need a flat nerf on Stalkers. Best way to do that? Lower the base damage of Crushing Uppercut, Spinning Strike, and Sweeping Cross, put that damage into the Combo Damage metric. AKA; they crit for less, but still do the same non-critical damage.
Easy enough fix. -
Seriously devs what the hell why are you not releasing staff fighting? By the time its out we would have lost most of the interest in playing it.
-
Something totally new and never seen before. None of this lets reskin this powerset and add some fluff and hope they do not notice this is something already in the game. This game is getting old and stale so at this point we need something totally new. I will say this adding more ATs could easily hurt existing ones. The way VEATs hurt stalkers and to a lesser extent doms when they first came out. Kheldians on the other hand are so subpar that they do not step on anyones toes so it was never truely an issue.
-
I keep holding out for the day we get account based storage. No reason not to have this now since every other MMO has this. I am not sure why they are not adding this feature. If the self email would do multiples or it was not annoying as hell I could see keeping it like it is but the devs need to change with times.
-
Just wanted to ask has anyone considered if Staff will be good for farming? I was thinking of Staff/Elec or Staff/WP on a brute. Normally I would do this on a scrapper however there is no build up that would give the scrapper the edge, only a minor buff from the forms. Just wondering if fury would make up the difference. Mainly going to be doing maps with mobs that are easy kills for influence.
-
Quote:I have always felt this way too. I think thats what we will see in the future, those single target only sets will get changed to add a cone or 2 just so it works out to be fair.
And if you are on a large team, there's probably too much aoe thrown around. Those trash minions don't hold much threat any way. But I do believe every primary should have at least one pbaoe. Having none is a design problem IMO. For a set to have zero aoe, each ST attack needs to come out so hard and fast to make up for it. -
SO MAD RITE NOA.
I cant believe they would make us wait even longer. The no 2xp thing was unforgiveable and then they go and do this? Screw that I wont be buying the set till the price goes down.
-
I get you hate tier 9 crashes but look at it like this, if all else fails and you run out of end, the tier 9 is a great way to get some end back too. Otherwise I would get it just use as an IO mule.

Quote:If you ever used the combos before on a stalker you are doing it wrong. Due to the way those powers were setup aside from sweep none of the combos are worth doing. Its even worse now with the changes. My hope is the devs revamp this set in issue 23 along with MA and EM so that they work better. So i22 came out...
ATO proc on AS is a blessing!
KM stalkers can perma BU with 100% crit on CS after AS!
StJ stalkers are beasts, with fast combo builder from out of stealth AS, followed by a 100% crit finisher!
Broad Sword, Ninja blade and darkness are great single target chainsaws!
Where does Dual Blades stay in the new stalker style?
Sweep doesn't crit, so using BU, AS, Ablating strike for AoE makes you waste the crit from ATO proc. (that places you in hide)
Empower is stupid, BU, AS, Placate... you are already in hide.. so you just waste a critical to placate. (which could be used out of this combo to get an extra crit)
Should a DB stalker ignore the combo system completely? What makes it competitive to other stalker's combos? The chance to get assassin's focus on dual blade attacks are one of the lowest from all stalkers set, losing only to claws. (which is pretty much broken as it is)
I got a concept for a DB/Nin, but seems like a Katana or StJ would outperform it by a huge amount... -
I just wanted to post one thing. Challenge in missions does NOT equal annoying. I repeat challeng in missions does NOT equal annoying. There are way too many factions I simply avoid, not due to challenge but just the annoyance factor. Attacking mobs and they have close to 50% lethal resistance is not fun, drawning in a sea of caltrops is not fun nor challenging just annoying since no one dies from caltrop damage. So devs when looking at making all future content do not do it where its annoying because that just makes some players just skip it entirely.
-
So mad rite noa. I guess I will be playing something else then instead. I got the perfect character and concept for Staff but no way to play it. Was hoping staff could get some of that 2xp goodness.

Quote:So Blue Steel is replacing statesman? It's one of the oldest CoH memes, way back from the days of kill skuls and jerk hackers/gone to the Americans. Okay, maybe not quite that long ago, but Issue 7 when Grandville was introduced.
A lot of the high-level missions for Villains have a sort of happy ending, as though even the people who played CoV were good people. This was usually in the form of the villains being THIS close to winning, but then they get word that whatever captive or whatever ended up getting rescued by Blue Steel.
Let's see... Happened twice to Westin Phipps: once with Miss Francine and the other with Ido and Hugo... Once to Ghost Widow as she attempted to destroy Numina... Once to Ambassador Kuhr'Rekt when he was plotting against Valkyrie... Once to Vernon von Grun as he was interrogating kidnapped scientists about the Devouring Earth... Can't think of any more at the moment.
As a result, he was the go-to guy when something needed to happen, and the Chuck Norris-esque meme developed shortly thereafter. -
Quote:For the DDR if you do not have an amount that is high as SR on a scrapper/brute/tank its not going to be worth it. Having 95% DDR means by the time the next hit lands the first one will be gone or almost gone. Anything less than that means instant cascade failure on defense. Since it happens on both it just makes more sense to have a heal which is why Ninjutsu is better. In terms of the passive scaling resists the way its design the lower to 0 health you get the more it helps, but missing one means it will not help as well almost to the point of why even have it if the next hit is going to kill you anyways? If you ever played a soft capped SR scrapper then turn around and play SR stalker you will notice the difference. Its better to have something like caltrops to make the mobs back off a sec to get you some breathing room. Lastly I get that you dont want to insta kill them all with AoEs but there comes a time when single target gets extremely old fast. I take lots of pride in how I can hit multiple mobs with say shadow maul, golden dragonfly or jacobs ladder. In most cases 3+ mobs. Thanks for the responses!
I am typically a single target oriented player. I actually prefer to take targets on one at a time, rather than destroying them all at once with AoE attacks (I know, I am in the minority). With that said, does MA become any more worthwhile?
While I am fine with playing Ninjitsu, would the one missing passive make that big of a difference? obviously it would where resistance to Toxic and Psionic is concerned, but are the DEF Debuff Res. numbers that different?
With both of you emphasizing the value of Healing powers, do you find that to be a necessity on Stalkers? I can see where they would be a boon in the past, do you think their value will continue to be that high with the changes that were released yesterday? -
Dont bother with MA, its just no aoe, that means you will have to single target kill everything. That takes way too long. The only plus to the set is that eagles claw hits harder on a stalker than scrapper. Dont bother with SR. Its kind of gimped because it does not get the full DDR that the scrapper/brute/tank version gets and it is missing a passive so you do not get the full benefit of the scaling resists. You might as well play ninjutsu instead since you can heal with it. While Ninjutsu does have the knockback issue its easily fixed with IOs.
