You guys are so funny.
The devs created a system knowing that most people would feel bad about kicking stragglers. However, they know that for whatever reason, you sometimes need to be able to kick folks from your team. So they left that in.
The OP's story is lamentable, but fully within the rules and fully intended. The only thing that the OP can do is make a note about that league leader. -
Looks like Avatea's getting the forum set up. Log out to see what I'm talking about.
EDIT: OK I was excited. Jerks!

*Bows*
Thanks much!

My Will tanker is going Rebirth, but she's soft-capped to most damage types.
-
A relatively low damage AT should go radial IMO. The damage boost is significant even for high damage ATs.
-
Scrappers. I came to this AT with my BS/Regen who is to this day still my most played and richest character. She's my heart, although /regen no longer is. My new love is also a Scrapper of course, a Fire/Shield.
I could certainly remember the bad old days, but I prefer to look forward. But let me leave you with perhaps the Regen Scrapper's call to action:
"Concern = Small Tweak, Don't worry Regen Scrappers!" - Statesman 2004.

Happy Anniversary Positron!
And if you guys talk to Jack Emmertt or Rick Dakan or any of those guys tell them Happy Anniversary as well!

Yup it's overpowered. Expect it to get fixed along with damage aura powers which are also pretty insane now. My Cold/Ice Defender has been enjoying her time as a Blaster.

I just want to note that the EvilGeko was right about Interface being by far the most powerful of the new slots.

I read the story like I read comics. For fun. I don't get annoyed too much with comics when they don't make sense either.
Except for M day. That was a complete POS. I wouldn't even still harp on it but the bastards won't just retcon it away.

Issue 20 has been pure win in my book. I didn't do either of the TFs during beta so I had something new to play with. WOW, Sutter is amazing. I can't wait to do the Mortimer Kal.

Quote:I think this is absolutely necessary. I would add that folks with temps should have a bright aura around them so people can immediately see what's going on. In that case if someone DCs and there really aren't enough temps then we'll know.I am very close to suggesting that the devs basically out the players with the grenades and acids: when they drop, combat spam will say "Violet Rumble recieved Molecular Acid" and when its used combat spam will say "Violet Rumble has destroyed a reinforcement portal." I think this is the sort of thing you should be wary of doing, and the only reason I'm not personally there yet is because even with the apparently amazingly high illiteracy rate among MMO players my overall success rate is still pretty high running trials.

Quote:wow.Ditto those sentiments. While other popular MMO's are making it a point of emphasis that their paths to maximum level can be done solo or small team, CoX has taken the exact opposite stance and made their max stuff attainable only via the larger groupie stuff.
Everytimre I take my Alphas out for a couple hours of 50 solo play but return yet again with Zero shards, it all makes me very, very angry and upset with this dev team. I've gotten exactly 3 shards in my last 12 hours of game play - just enough to be aware of the total disrespect and contempt this dev group has for their solo content paying fan base.
But, however angry I may be, I am not quitting. I will continue to give the majority of my time to all my lower level characters in the hope that within a couple of years the devs will return to their senses and get this game back to its roots of providing its entire paying player base with content and advancement that is reasonably doable for every play style. -
On my Cold/Ice I usually just turn everyone into Popsicles. Starting with whatever tanker/brute/scrapper has aggro. Frostworks I usually don't bother with unless I see a tanker/brute/scrapper getting beat down by an AV and the HP can help.

That the stated idea would have many positive effects and not nearly as many negatives as its made out to have. I don't even particularly care whether its implemented but I feel the arguments here don't adequately address the issue.
Why does the game need to be balanced anywhere then?Quote:Why does the playing field have to be even?
Not like every AT. My three incarnates are a Cold/Ice Def, Fire/Shield Scrapper, and a BS/Regen. The solo differential is like night and day and this is with a soft-capped defender.Quote:Defenders solo just fine, some more easily than others. Just like every other AT.
You don't have to prove they can't do the content. Only that they are earning rewards (exp, etc.) much slower than other ATs. There was a differential and that's why Vigilance changed. A buff that some needed others didn't. Do they need more buffs? I don't know, but I don't think an Empath even would be doing +4/x8 even with this change.Quote:I see more broadcast for support toons, not we need more scrappers or more khelds, etc. Plus the devs changed the defender inherent. So defenders are pretty well off in my book. If you can proove defenders can't do the content of the game on normal settings, then I agree with you 1000% something like this should be considered. If you are thinking that my emp def should solo +4\+8 like my MM's, I disagree. IME, people ask for one of my def (or corr) before any of my MM's.
While I was using defenders as an example, I fully intended to fold in the others.Quote:Plus two more points, players would be screaming for self buffing on the other AT's like controllers, MM's, and corruptors. How would that be balanced?
Dark and Cold have nothing to complain about now or under this idea. Especially the now trivially soft-capped Colds.Quote:And status protection would be completely unfair. My emp or kin defenders would be running around laughing while my dark or cold defenders would be held/immob/etc. -
Quote:Most of my objections with the slot could be cured by this. I don't think it needs to be perma, but when I compare it to Interface which is always there, always helping or Destiny which is often perma by T3, I feel the power is all but worthless. It's not, of course, but it's not nearly as fun.Reduce the recharge. The number one thing. 15 minutes, non-reduceable is ridiculous! Seriously! Drop it down hard, to around 7 minutes. This is roughly the recharge you'd have for a patron pet fully slotted for recharge plus some global recharge buffs as well. This puts it at a greater than 50% percent of uptime, which also improves the feel of the power. If it's helping you more than half the time, it seems a lot more worthwhile.

Quote:No it's still moot. When someone doesnt' need to **** around with IOs, dump a bunch of money into them or "play the market" and could, if able to self buff, reach those levels WELL before being able to join the Incarnate Farms, no, it's not old or moot.
Trying to wave away Inventions is beyond silly. But they SUPPORT this suggestion they don't detract from it. Allowing defenders the ability to aid themselves evens the playing field with those who have used Inventions to do the same thing.
For example, everyone likes to toss out Empathy, but let's take poor Force Field as an example.
A Force Field defender gets 23.4% defense to all but psi from being able to buff themselves. That's it. Everything else is either already available to them solo. Yes, that 23.4% gets them very close to being soft-capped, but so what? Everybody and their uncle is soft-capped these days. Ask Arcanaville how powerful being soft-capped is without some sort of heal. Given the obvious low numbers of people that use that powerset in normal play, why not give it more incentives.
Saying, "well they can do that with SOs" I still say, "So what?" The fact is a blaster can do it with a few hundred million of influence (supplemented by selective A-merits purchases) but will do conservatively 2x as much damage. The defender will NEVER do as much damage as that blaster. There's no amount of damage buffs in the system that's going to get them beyond the average buff of Defiance.
Another reason to allow this is simply fairness. Defenders aren't equal in the lack of ability in using their powers. Several defenders get full benefit from every power their have including Traps and Trick Arrow. Others get the full benefit from every power except one: Radiation (just the rez), Dark (just the rez), Storm. Among those remaining, it's not clear at all how overpowered it would be except for Empathy.
Force Field - See above
Kinetics - They get speed boost and increase density
Cold - They get the shields and Frostworks
Sonic - They get the shields, better mez protection and the -res aura
Empathy - Gets Fort, their heals, Clear Mind and Adrenalin Boost
Yeah, so there's some nice benefit there for a few sets. But that's corrective IMO. Traps, Radiation and Dark are well known to be extremely powerful solo and only missing the rez at worst is hardly a great burden. -
Quote:Not really that simple. The defense would be well shy of an SR, although still very good. The HP would be significantly less than a scrapper so that regen isn't that hot. And the damage would be only close to a blaster until defiance starts supercharging the blaster's damage.Because quite a few Defender sets, if they could target themselves, would be absolute tank mages. An empath defender that can self-target would have the regen of a /regen with IH running, the defense of a /SR, and just shy of ranged blaster damage.
Empathy is the best example of any balance problems and it's not that impressive post inventions and post incarnates. The "overpowered" argument is old and all but moot. That said my Incarnate defender is a cold who is already soft-capped so she wouldn't get much from this idea other than some HP. -
Quote:Brute melee damage scalar is .75; damage cap is 775%The correct answer is Fire/Fire brute. They have the highest damage cap in the game, with the most damaging primary/secondary for the AT.
By contrast Scrapper melee damage scalar is 1.125; effective damage with crits is 1.2; damage cap is 500%
.75*7.75= 5.8125
1.2*5= 6
So at the damage cap, Scrappers will slightly outdo Brutes with the same powerset. -
Quote:The "they would be done on the first day" is only part of the reason. The fact is, and I recognize this bothers people, is that they wanted you to do the trials. And by introducing threads, they made it so that only happened on the 2nd or 3rd day. Not a big difference, if you ask me. So maybe there's a different reason behind it.
It's that simple. The trials are designed with a certain base level of difficulty and coordination required. For the time being the devs want to give this content a de facto exclusivity in earning rewards. -
Thanks for the great post. I will continue to monitor, but I must take issue with the contention that once you pass the participation threshold, rewards are random. If that is the case, then the chance of receiving a rare or higher reward must be much larger than we guessed.
I can tell you that hitting a lot of stuff, tends to correlate very well for me in earning a rare reward. I haven't kept logs, but I will going forward. I don't doubt what you are saying is what is intended, I just question whether it's actually working out that way.
EDIT: I would recommend that you put these points into a MOTD pop-up sooner rather than later. Aberrant behavior has taken hold with respect to the trials and folks need to know this isn't the way to succeed. -
Quote:SOs are worth an avg or 15K inf. Times 10 that's 150K. Since you have no idea how long it would take or what the opportunity cost, I'll just thank you for the bump and say I disagree.Yeah, and I want them to buy my pocket lint too.

SOs are next to worthless. Even if the devs wasted only 1 hour on this change (and no change to a running system ever takes less than 1 hour to make, verify and document), it's time they would have better spent doing something useful. -
