Quote:We do not want the devs to be looking too hard at Plant Control. That is all.I'm not going to sit here and try to convince anyone that plant is weak. But I'll say that SoC isn't so uber when you're facing a faction running Tactics.
The one change I'd like to see is for Spore Burst to be like Synaptic Overload as mentioned. I'd like to also see this sleep version replace Flash Freeze and Poison Gas Arrow.
All represent a stationary cloud/zone that would sleep anything that walks into and/or stays inside.
And regarding whether a control set is OP or not... so what if it is? Why must controls be tethered to that design mantra when there are numerous melee and ranged powers that put AoE controls to shame? -
Quote:VEAT storyline = Screw Recluse and the spider he rode in on, I'm in it for me.And I can't take your complaints about a storyline seriously when you praise the utter lack of one on VEATs.
HEAT storyline = Something about the Council and the Nictus...who knows I stopped after the three kill all missions in a row.
Yeah, I'll praise the VEAT storyline. It gets to the point. Yes, it's short, but short does not equal bad. -
Quote:Those combos aren't the whole AT.Let's see some comments I recall:
Mind/Energy: Telekenesis. "Why are you pushing me away from your biggest attacks again?"
People complain about Ice - AOE hold vs Ice Slick.
Ice/Energy - see mind, keeping ice slick in mind.
Dark Armor brutes (stunned/terrorized enemies don't attack, less fury built.)
Quote:And have powers of their own. No other ATs have forms or anything close. Strawman/moot.
Most of the ones you mention don't have shields until their APP/PPP, and those shields for the most part don't give mez protection. (Exceptions: Force fields, Sonic, and the Psi APP for Controllers and doms.)
Quote:Domination on doms was a major component of their AT. That was broken at introduction. That got fixed.
Stalkers are (finally) fixed.
If they felt PBs were as "broken" as you want to indicate, history suggests they'd be "fixed" by now. So perhaps it's just your perception. Yes, there are tweaks that can be done. But that's a LONG way from "broken."
Your posts here don't indicate it.
Stalkers went through three major revamps, the last of which abandoned the original premise of the AT to make them Scrappers with a significantly better inherent.
I would be thrilled if they would abandon the original premise of Khelds (reliance on form shifting and specific team buffs) to make Khelds into something more like the SoA. How many times have they had to buff this AT? We're on six last IIRC. I may have lost count. And yet they refuse to do the things that would actually make the majority fall in love with these sets. -
Quote:If you can't play an AT with the default UI, it's broken.Except said AT's don't juggle forms or require binds to play efficiently. Maybe it's only my opinion that khelds require binds to perform well but I don't have issues playing my defender or dominator without them. Try playing a kheld without binds after you have and it's brutal.
Quote:I'll agree that the shields were poorly designed, but since when is a lack of mez protection such a bad thing?
As for synergy, having three toggles on an AT that's often having to turn them off by switching forms...lol.
Quote:Except that playing to cap doesn't mean squat. Hasn't for a long time seeing as how one can get to 50 in the less than a day. -
Quote:Blasters, dominators, defenders, corruptors all play that way too, but aren't saddled with powers that have no synergy, forms that rob you of most of your powers, shields with no mez protection, etc.You can't derp your way through playing a Kheldian, it's not Willpower. For a lot of people, having an understanding of what you're doing and keeping it in mind while you play isn't attractive compared to the alternative.
The advantage of having played all the ATs to cap ( except MMs - hate them) means I can just lol at your veiled L2P comment. Peacebringers have been broken since their introduction. And to answer Bill's question, I'm here because I hope they will one day actually give this class what it needs.
EDIT: I have to amend my answer to Bill's question. I really don't hope that they will ever fix this class. I gave up, but temporary insanity made me think that it was remotely worth it to argue for Kheldians. It's not. Enjoy folks. -
Quote:For me, I ignore the SoA storyline because they are going to be heroes by level 21 anyway so who cares?Storyline??
Oh, the thing you do at 10 in order to get your cossie slot and then completely ignore! I remember that.
I really enjoyed my Fort/Widow and my Shade, both were great fun, with the Shade being a bit better just because it was more versatile. Plus I really disliked the first 26 levels of Widowhood, couldn't get through it quick enough.
Memphis_Bill's raving about the Kheldian storyline got me to try it once. Most tedious, boring arcs in this game. I literally can't get through them even ignoring the story. Too many kill alls, to many missions, ridiculous story. Bleh. -
Quote:So you enjoy poorly designed combos then? And for me, the Veats - both bane and widow - were a slog, not helped by the utter crud that is the so-called storyline. I mean, I enjoyed my Emp/Psi more than those, and she can feel like she takes ten minutes to kill an even-con minion. Twenty if it's a robot of some sort.
How many times have they had to buff Khelds? Conversely, I'm not sure they've ever even looked at the SoA they work so well. -
-
I can dig Warshades. But my Peacebringer was the most painful ride to 50 of any alt so far. By contrast, the 'weakest' of my SoA (the ranged focused Bane) was an absolute joy from 1-50 and was done in a couple of weeks.

Why I don't make arcs?
I did make a couple of well-received arcs. One or two downgrades because they didn't give the 'phat exp' and were hard and my main arc is buried. It annoys me because it (the arc) actually makes a lot of sense in given the changes to Penny Yin.
Why I don't play arcs?
I'll occasionally play a farm when I'm bored and want to test the performance of an alt or want to farm some tickets for a specific purpose. Otherwise, AE has nothing for me. There's plenty of content in the game. -

Quote:Or just play it on Stalkers and get the best of both worlds.Like any powerset it is certainly not for everyone. Especially for those looking for high burst damage or strong AV killing ST damage or any other kind of min/maxer type of performance. It's total AOE is excellent not poor.
Just go away and back to your min/max set of choice, Staff is not for you. -
Quote:Works like a charm thanks! My new Stalker, Popsicle Sticks, owes you his life! You can actually hide the effects of ALL armors and buffs using the following macro.
/macro FXoff "SuppressCloseFx 1$$SuppressCloseFxDist 255"
A button will appear in your powertray click it and voila no horrible ice armor. Just checked this myself with a new toon.
Works for fire and a variety of other powersets. It even suppresses the little buff icons from leadership. Only glow I get on my toons now is the one from secondary mutation.
To turn effects back on.
/macro FXon "SuppressCloseFx 0"
Hope this helps. -
Quote:Thank you. You were correct, I was wondering about the power customization. Shame. I love the set-up of this set, but can't stand the look.Sure doesn't. The only ice power that has that option is Hide. Your only recourse is dark colored ice which may or may not be minimal enough for your tastes. I just realized you may mean the graphics option rather than the power customization option, but same answer. It isn't a particle effect so it won't be disabled.

See subject. Thanks in advance for any responses.

Quote:I actually hadn't planned on taking trip mine anyway. I like the thrill of attacking a spawn directly. I hope to be able to play this alt at +0/x8 eventually. That's going to take some work, but it will probably be more fun than my godmode Fire/Shield Scrapper.I'm not really trying to say you made a mistake or anything, just that is you're remotely patient the set is very safe once you get trip-mines (also very boring if you do lay mine-fields without the right temperament).
If you really want to play a 'hard mode' character try limiting your intended playstyle. Like make a range-only psi/em, or melee only rad/elec ... or honestly just keep on playing the psi/dev and don't do the whole mine field thing (or stealth most of your missions). As wonky as the blaster secondaries are they do all seem to have their effective niche, though some of them may be small. -
Quote:I don't disagree with that. But again, I'm comparing it to the alternatives. Then it's possible that /devices wasn't the best choice for a secondary. Say what you will about the set, and lord knows I've complained about parts of it, but it's an incredibly safe powerset to use if you play to its strengths.
Sure it doesn't have a lot of use in a team setting, and laying down mine patches with caltrops fields can feel very tedious, but it's like playing the original version of a stalker who's assassin's strike does AoE damage. That's also kind of why I really wish the recent AS changes could somehow be carried over to Trip Mine and Time Bomb to give them some use when in-combat; those powers are even more useless than AS was when you're in a fight.
Energy Manipulation - Stuns, mega damage, strong utility. No go here
Fire Manipulation - Not the safest set in the world, but a whole lot of AoE damage
Electrical Manipulation - See Energy Melee
Mental Manipulation - lol; Whatever else this set is, it is not weak in anything
Ice Manipulation - Too much control. Damage is weak for sure, but it's very safe. Kind of the opposite of its brother Fire Manipulation.
Dark Manipulation - I thought about this one, but folks talked me out of it. It's a safe set with debuffs, good damage, and OK controls.
Devices - Controls are OK. Defense is good. Damage is OK. It's not great. Set-up time has to factor in.
Look the alt is only level 6. I'm willing to be convinced I made a mistake. Among the alternatives, which do you think is the weakest? -
Quote:I agree. Remember, I was looking for the OPPOSITE of that.Whaaaaat?
I've found */Ice, and Energy/Ice for that matter, to be one of the most survivable blaster sets on SOs alone, and it gets even better with IOs (ranged def cap).
And I'm not just saying that because my main is Energy/Ice.
All the KB knocks them to range, Shiver keeps them there and seriously debuffs their recharge -- so they're ineffectively trying to run toward you. If any do make it into melee range, Ice Patch knocks them down and CE debuffs their damage (as well as what's left of their recharge).
Just pretend that Frozen Aura doesn't exist and you're golden. -
I am not seeking your validation. I do not agree with your reasoning, primarily because you are not comparing the sets. You seem to be offended because I chose one of your favorite sets for this alt. I do not intend to argue the point further with you.

Stalkers don't 'lose' Siphon Power. They get Build Up instead. Which while it has less of an average buff over time, it provides better burst. And like Scrappers get with Siphon Power, Concentrated Strike crits refresh its recharge automatically. Kinetic Stalkers have always been slightly better than Scrappers IMO and now it's not even a close call.

Quote:That's your fault for not grinding DFB and/or DIB like the devs intended. To test that theory I jumped onto a bunch of pugs this weekend. It took only ten minutes for me to wish granite was available at 12, and twenty minutes for me to wish tylenol was a flavor of coca cola.

My view of the relative need for 'help'. I am not interpreting help to mean 'buffs' necessarily.
1. Blasters - Only need help because everyone else is so Overpowered.
2. Peacebringers - Don't really need help. Some folks find them a pain to play (including me), but that doesn't mean the semi-AT is broken. If it got buffed (again) I wouldn't complain, but unless they are ready to do what's needed (reliable AoE) I wouldn't bother.
3. Scrappers - Flip out and kill isn't unique. Give this AT something that's unique and stop stealing everything they have and giving it to Stalkers.
4. Tankers - Need help only because you really don't need their tanking abilities. It's great to be immortal, but you don't need immortal for 95%+ of the content. Not sure what 'help' would look like. Probably giving them a better version of criticals.
Everyone else - No. -
I don't PvP because the Arena doesn't work. If I could just queue up for a match and play a quick game here and there I would. I have no interest in open-world PvP and it's dead on my server anyway.

Quote:What I wrote:Except that devices isn't weak. It just trades agonizingly slow for its strength. If you play slowly and carefully as a trapper with devices you can almost completely ignore your primary.

Struggled a lot with the choice, but I actually roled
*drum roll*
Psi Blast/Devices
It was difficult. Rad/Devices was a choice, but ultimately the low resistability of critters to energy lost me. Psi will either be decent or really, really bad against critters.
As for the secondary, that was harder. There were things in each to speak for them. Most have either too much control or utility or damage or all of the above for me. Devices isn't weak, but it's the weakest I can determine.
