To be honest, I see the new TF as waste of time. Get the new badge, and never play it again. Woo.
[/ QUOTE ]
That's probably my strategy for the villain TF. The hero one is probably worth adding to the rotation of TFs to play/farm. -

OP ignore AE. Seriously, I go in there once in awhile for missions and love it as a place to get inspirations, but otherwise, AE just isn't worth getting steamed about. It's not ruining the game. It's ruining the game for some players. -
[ QUOTE ]
I WAS using Luck. And Rage. Those were my two primary selections. They always are. And I get myself a Sturdy or two and a couple Breaths just in case. Respites are redundant when counting some of the self-heal abilities my characters get. I usually either need one or none at all when dealing with the more average EBs.
[/ QUOTE ]
Question. How exactly do you use inspirations? Do you hit them one at a time, waiting for one to run out before hitting another? So when you say you went after these EBs did you hit four lucks all at the same time, or one after another?
There's a very big difference between those situations. -
[ QUOTE ]
And you clearly never fought Spinnerette. She heals up as quickly as you damage her.
[/ QUOTE ]
I have. Many times. With two brutes, a soldier, a widow, and a dom. Won every time.
[ QUOTE ]
Not soloable in the least.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not sure why you believe this.
[ QUOTE ]
Kadabra Kill is even worse, because he does the same constant healing while planting binds on you while he and his godawful singularity can hit you with impunity. You can only carry so many break free inspirations before realizing you need backup when facing that terror.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm sorry, but simply put you need to learn to play better if you can't beat these NPCs as EBs solo. -
[ QUOTE ]
I can't see how it wouldn't be 2010. It's a paid expansion, it'll need more testing that a normal issue. How could anyone imagine it'd be out in a couple of months?
[/ QUOTE ]
With Issue 16 being confirmed as a separate issue, I think it's fair odds that GR might be in 2010, but there's absolutely no reason it needs to be. In 2005, we got
Issue 3
Issue 4
Issue 5
COV - Issue 6
Four issues in one year. No reason that they couldn't repeat the feat in 2009 especially with a larger team focused on making the expansion. Also, take a developer like SOE. They have their expansions planned out well in advance and mostly manage to get them out within months of announcing them. -

...and difficult tasks for level 50 characters to do that make them more powerful.
[/ QUOTE ]
this is the comment that concerns me somewhat. how will this be available to everyone if it is part of a paid expanssion? and before you say everyone will buy it, you can't be certain about that.
also if the game is suppossed to be balanced, how will this affect it? will they nerf anything or ramp everything up to make up for the imbalances this will cause?
[/ QUOTE ]
It won't be available to folks that don't buy the expansion most likely. And they will likely fall behind on high end PvP and PvE as a result. Thus increasing the pressure to buy the expansion.
Like all other MMO expansions. Not that I think this is a bad thing in any way. -
[ QUOTE ]
I laugh now whenever people claim all content is soloable on all archetypes. My Invuln/SuperStr TANKER could barely take on Frostfire alone, and my Dark/Dark Corrupter needed to team to kill Spinnerette who would heal herself way too frequently. Clearly, not all content in this game is soloable on all archetypes.
[/ QUOTE ]
We claim it because it's true. Frostfire is not a particularly hard EB, I've beat him with every Hero AT and the epics solo. People who claim that they can't solo normal mission content generally aren't using all the tools available to them in a strategic way.
I get that in 90% of circumstances you don't need to do that, but once in awhile it isn't unreasonable to have to think through an encounter IMO. Especially when buying 4 lucks is all the thinking you need to do most of those times. -

I've got a mission where Ghost Widow as a EB drops my level 41 corrupter every single time and I can't drop it. So I wouldn't say you can always solo content no matter what.
My current plan is to outlevel the mission and see about picking up a Shivan and a nuke and see how it goes.
[/ QUOTE ]
Need more facts, because Ghost Widow is hard, but not insurmountable if you plan out your inspirations and such. And as someone stated, a Shivan thrown in never hurts.
[/ QUOTE ]
I tired initially with a tray full of inspirations and came close but died. I noted I had a shivan already and went back to try it but I messed up on letting it get agro first and she dropped me quickly (using my last charge). So far I've died three times solo... so thus the plan to get a new Shivan and use it better.
But I'd rather they just let me drop all missions instead of just most.
[/ QUOTE ]
What was your inspiration load? It's up to you, but I might take another crack at her. She's probably the hardest EB in the game with the insta-hold, but even that can be planned for.
Some other tricks for "soloing" this mission. Clear out all but her spawn, then leave the mission. Find some other corrupters or MMs and get them to cast whatever buffs you can get. Then get back to the mission ASAP and kill her.
And there's always Warburg nukes from orbit. It's the only way to really be sure (not really, but I like saying that.)

I solo Posi when I need TF Commander on a character. Other than that, I don't bother with it.

ok....i'm startin to have a feeling that once reach a certain level, you have no choice but to do missions with others....is this true? if so, what level is pretty much the end of the line for doing missions solo?
[/ QUOTE ]
What gave you that feeling? Are you in the teens? That level range sucks, but there's never, ever a time in this game that you can't solo with any AT. -
[ QUOTE ]
Whereas exemplary villains would just get shafted cause we hate them.
[/ QUOTE ]
ROFLMAO!! -
[ QUOTE ]
First off if you are looking to min/max there is no reason to play a Bane over a Night Widow. Night Widows are near top of the food chain for melee damage.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is the answer right here. You play a bane because you like the tools and tricks they bring to the table. They're more versatile than Night Widows and there's more ways you can build them.
But strictly for putting the hurt on, go NW. -

I'd like to say "goodbye search function...you were a worthy opponent."

I think we should drag it out into a field, and beat on it with baseball bats and our fists.

Can I use a pistol? Not to shoot, but for whipping.
I've long thought that telling someone to "Go search first" is roundabout flaming. You shouldn't wish that damn thing on your worst enemy. -

Also, the devs stated that the reason they gave Defenders such a horrible and almost completely useless inherent was because they thought that Defenders were already the most balanced AT. They didn't want to mess with that, so they didn't get a noticeable inherent.
[/ QUOTE ]
When did they say that?
I ask, because these days, it seems to me that Scrappers are the most balanced.
Defenders may be internally balanced, but are under performing overall.
Admittedly, this is my personal observation based on solo play - where the Defender is designed to be weak. But since I choose CoX because it was a solo-friendly MMORPG, I do not feel this is an invalid benchmark.
[/ QUOTE ]
It was way back, said by the previous series of devs (re: Statesman and Geko) as the original design reason. I've got no clue whether Castle and Positron current adhere to it, but I do know that it was specifically stated by a redname that the comparative weakness of the Defender inherent was a specific design choice.
[/ QUOTE ]
It was stated in the run-up to Issue 5. Defenders were somewhat surprised to see that, for the most part, they avoided the crushing weight of nerfs that came in with the GDN. Only FF took a serious hit IIRC.
As to the topic, Scrappers are fine. Stalkers have absolutely abysmal AOE and a lower base modifier than Scrappers. Criticals are what they are. Inherent powers were not intended to define hero ATs like they did with villains. In most cases (Tankers, Controllers, Scrappers, Blasters) they were added or changed to shore up a critical deficiency in the AT. -

Only that upping the reward of a crappy TF won't encourage folks.
[/ QUOTE ]
Given the very large number of Doc Q's I have seen formed since the merits were upped on that one, I would have to disagree.
[/ QUOTE ]
I've seen next to none after the first few weeks I13 went live. *Shrug* -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
Like I tried to say during Issue 13's test, upping the reward will not get people interested in doing TFs. Making them all fun will.
[/ QUOTE ]
Which is why Katies and Speedens were incredibly popular a few issues ago but suddenly become deserted once their merits were reduced.
[/ QUOTE ]
Who said Katies are deserted? I level every character from 30-34 through that one. And please note, I didn't say that if you nerf the reward to nothing that won't DISCOURAGE people. Only that upping the reward of a crappy TF won't encourage folks. -
I think it goes Minor, Low, Medium, High, Superior, Extreme
And to be honest, I think you answered your own question:
[ QUOTE ]
The dictionary definition of Superior is: higher in rank, status or quality, greater in size or power. The definition of Extreme is: reaching a high or the highest degree, very great.
[/ QUOTE ]
Looks like extreme wins that one. -
QR
IMO all TFs should be 4-6 missions and give 20-35 merits based on difficulty and length. That would immediately move people away from farming the TF du jour and get people doing a lot of different content.
Like I tried to say during Issue 13's test, upping the reward will not get people interested in doing TFs. Making them all fun will. -

The post in which he was referring to: Positron spills the beans
[/ QUOTE ]
I got that. What I didn't get was how he apparently got from color customization to "Scrappers need more epic pools."
Look, I'm with you on Scrappers wanting more choices for epics, despite the fact that Scrappers are one of the best-balanced ATs and generally have few complaints.
But thousands of players have been begging for color customization for years. Imagine the reverse of this complaint: "Color customization was possible this issue, but we've pushed it back indefinitely to add a Scrapper epic pool." People would go nuts, and rightly so.
Scrappers will probably get more epic choices eventually. In the meantime, it ill behooves us to use everyone else's moment of great joy to air a complaint about what's already one of the best-designed ATs.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well....
1) Posi's post was about Issue 16. The big draw of Issue 16 is probably going to be color customization. So, it's fair to talk about what ELSE might be in there.
2) More epics for Scrapper would not likely hold anything up, especially just adding Pyre Mastery like they should have done this issue. -
[ QUOTE ]
I, for one, will be turning my Dark Armor to bright pink.
Probably only for a day, but for that one day? It will make me laugh like a lunatic.
[/ QUOTE ]
I hate the pink aura around the head so I might actually play a DA Scrapper now. I'm really hoping we can select "None" as a choice for color. -

While I use a few different HOs in most builds, I don't know if they need to go back to their original lvls of enhancement.
However, why they can't boost them up to give the enhancement value of a lvl 50 generic IO, I don't know :/
Might see them get more use again.
[/ QUOTE ]
They already offer more bang for your slot than anything else out there:
Level 50 single aspect IO = 42.4%
Level 50 double aspect IO = 26.5% x2
HO = 33% x2
Edit: I would support them not being reduced while exemplaring, though. I think that's fair for "raid loot".
[/ QUOTE ]
Purples provide a similar enhancement with two attributes and they have the potential for amazing set bonuses, that (as Catwhoorg corrected me) you don't lose while exemplared.
[/ QUOTE ]
Purple recipes, however, are much harder to attain than HOs or SHOs.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not really. There is just no guaranteed way to get them. For a HO or SHO to be created one of THREE tasks must happen: Hami must die or a team must complete the STF or LRSF. That's it.
There a chance for a purple to come into being everytime a level 47+ mob goes down. It's small, but it's still substantially easier and it can be done completely solo. -

I'm very happy for all the proponents of power customization. I can't say it was ever high on my priority list, but then the devs exhausted my priority list when they announced Going Rogue.
[/ QUOTE ]
Same...
Here's your NEW priority.
New Maps. We need new maps on both sides of the game. (I think we need new zones and just can some that we already have that suck) BUT, none the less - We need NEW MAPS...
So, like... Prioritise that as something we need and advocate for it.

Mission maps?
TBH, I really don't think we need new mission maps. We have plenty.
[/ QUOTE ]
I find this coming from a five year vet almost borderline insanity. :P
The basic maps in the game -- office, warehouse, sewer, cave, tech lab -- reveal themselves to the player in the first few levels of the game. From there it is an endless sea of repetition, with "variety" added through slight alterations of the map layouts that are quickly memorized (not to mention the static placement of the critters) with an occasional unique map thrown in and even then they are typically built off existing maps (the cool sewer/office transition to cave maps, the cave maps that transition to Rikti maps, etc.).
You have a standard for variety in maps that is WAY lower than mine or you just don't care about where your characters are fighting. Insane!
[/ QUOTE ]
The five standard maps you're talking about have a number of variations and you're forgetting about:
Council bases
Orenbega
Outdoor maps (both natural, Croatoa, factories and cityscape)
Outdoor zone maps (i.e. zoning into an Atlas instance)
Arachnos maps (although they are torture)
The Dam
etc.
When people bring up "We need more maps" I often wonder what they're talking about. Most missions do wind up on one of the basic structures, but our heroes are in a City, that's to be expected. -
