Allowing everyone to run around with actual invisible powers is...a very bad idea, game design-wise.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Why?

Does Wolverine glow green when he heals?

Does Professor Xavier shoot pink rays when he dominate's someone's mind?

I don't consider this really a controller problem here. It's completely a defender problem since the support sets get the proper numerical bonus across the board

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not really. Secondaries that are used as a primary on other ATs generally are playing at 75% of the primary. Controllers walk all over this.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's really only true for armor sets. It's not true for anything else. The AT mods, which are set where the devs think that AT should perform, govern everything else.

    Examples:

Blasters - Secondary melee attacks perform at the Blaster's 1.0 melee damage modifier
Tankers - Secondary melee attacks perform at .80 melee damage modifier
Defenders - Secondary ranged attacks perform at .65 ranged damage modifier (substantially weaker than Blaster's 1.125 ranged mod.)

The 75% thing came from a long ago discussion with Statesman about the relative difference between primary/secondary/pool. No matter how many times it's been disproven since, people still instinctively feel that primaries should be better than secondaries.

Personally, I don't agree with that or the OPs analysis. Controllers are better at supporting a team than Defenders. As stated the combination of control + buff/debuff is more powerful that buff/debuff + blast. Always has been, probably always will be.

I don't think that Defenders are too bad off. IMO, there's more of a problem with individual sets like FF and Sonic than global problems with the AT. More damage certainly isn't going to fix Defenders vis a vis Controllers. I would much prefer that a defender change revolve around giving Defenders something unique. Something like giving all Defenders substantial offensive debuffing ability, even where it doesn't exist in their primary. Like if Vigilance was a PBAoE Surveillance or something like that.

Scrappers will be getting, arguably, [u]one of our best sets (for AoE)[u] and we'll get one of their so-so sets. They get the awsomeness of LR and Thunderstrike to wag around and we get...a metal stick.

    [/ QUOTE ]

But no where near one of Scrappers. Electric Melee will be very....OK for Scrappers. Nothing more.

The "devs screwed villains" thing gets old. Especially when heroes get a whack set like Electric Armor.
  4. So I never have to install an office suite again? I can get the striped down version of Office without all the "value added" features I couldn't give two [naughty word] about?

AWESOME!! Thanks, I hadn't heard this.

And you're right, that actress sucked!

    Melee/Buff Archetype.

Give them Defender damage mods, or Mastermind buff mods or whatever. Defenders/Corruptors do it at range. Why can't someone have the same amount of damage but close to melee? Closing to melee is inherently weaker.

    Katana/Kinetics
    Super Strength/Radiation
    War Mace/Empathy.

Nothing says "I care" like a a pipe wrench to the face.

I had wrote this up awhile ago. Called it the "Guardian AT"

I had it at .9 for most AT mods.

the recipe slots are nice...but uh fog of war?...am i suppose to be familar with this term?

    [/ QUOTE ]

When you first enter a zone, the map hasn't revealed itself right? The black part is called "the fog of war".
  7. Looks good. Not great, but good. But then the City Traveler is going to be hard to beat. The Fog of War Reveal will help with my OCD about uncovering zone maps. Hopefully, it's permanent.
  8. 1) Shared Storage
    2) No minimum TF size
    3) More robust drop system (GMs/AVs drop recipes that make sense, e.g. Manticore might drop a melee rare set or a sniper set.)

I prefer the small, fairly frequent free updates with a fat paid expansion in the pipeline over infrequent but more substantial free updates with nothing else happening.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    I absolutely agree.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Me too.

For example, I wouldn't mind a space or undersea expansion in late 2010.

Yeah I've always wished there were some good Warrior arcs in the game. They have a kinda cool background, but no exciting stories. They are just sort of a forgotten group, more or less.

Have you even played the midnighters arc with them in? That final mission in their arc is . . . . . . . . . . ambushy with a flavour of carnage

    [/ QUOTE ]

Which one is this? Is this villainside Midnighters? More details too. I like the warriors, and do agree it's hard to get a good impression of a villain group when they're being bullied all the time.

Honestly, I think this was conceived for a few reasons...

    1) It gets the farmers out of the AE building and the farm spam out of broadcast.

    2) Good farmers no longer need to fill a full team to farm. Thus lowbies looking to get PLed will get left behind. Personally, I won't be inviting anyone to join me. So that's 7 people that are not getting leveled each time I start a farm.

    3) Market control - I think the Devs look at the market in terms of purples, see the lack of supply and the rising prices and have put in place a feature that will help stabilize the inflation.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Every one of those points are valid. Alot of peeps had the misconception of "nerf this" and "nerf that" to get the farmers out of AE. that was the wrong attack on the right problem. the absolutely best possible solution to "get the farmers out" is to distract them away with a new shiney, not to "nerf it all to an ineffective oblivion"

    heh.../endrant.

    [/ QUOTE ]

If it works. I do think that the enhanced difficulty will do much to limit the negative effects of farming, but I'm not sure that the devs have exactly given up on reining in AE as a farming tool.

And remember, they just nerfed another AE mob out of existence this week, so I'm not sure that the devs agree with this.

I actually think the opposite. I predict that a lot of people will leave the game to pursue something new (that other mmo) and the market will inflate drastically to compensate.

    [/ QUOTE ]

My prediction: that other MMO™ isn't going to have anywhere near the impact on this game's population as some people seem to think (or hope) it will.

And yah, I'm not gonna make any calls until we get more details about the difficulty slider. Specifically about whether or not it's going to apply to MA.

[/ QUOTE ]I noticed everyone is calling it that other MMO or the MMO-that-shall-not-be-named. I just find this funny.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yeah and they're calling Champions Online™ by Cryptic Studios™, original developer of City of Heroes™ this for the same reason the wizards wouldn't say Voldemort.

I want to fire invisible beams at people.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I would love to turn my Psi characters to this.

I would also like to make my Popsicle graphics go away on a costume for folks who don't like my Cold Defender's shields.

So much fun could be had with "none".
  15. [ QUOTE ]
Heck, it's such a perfect solution that it might actually make me start farming just because I won't need anyone else to do it effectively.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I know I will because of this. I agree with the OP, this is a brilliant solution.

I'm always happy to see power sets proliferated, so please don't take this post as a sour grapes post. With that said, is anyone a little disappointed that the most wanted sets weren't proliferated.

Here's what would've made me jump for joy:

Blasters -Dark Blast (though I admit, Rad Blast is a fine choice)

    Brutes - Regeneration

    Controller - Dark Miasma

Corruptor - Poison (though Trick Arrow was a fine choice too)

    Defender - Poison

    Dominator - Illusion

    MM - Kinetics

Scrapper - Super strength or energy melee or fire epic powers

Stalker - Shields or fire melee

Tanker - Spines or energy aura

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Maybe next time.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Only problem with that is that there is, so far, a year between proliferations.

  18. No more glowing effects on our heroes maybe? I've never really liked that some sets (Invul, Regen, etc.) which in the comics have no graphical effect, must have one here.

Is this an option? Should it be? Will this even work in PvP?
  19. QR

I never minded it, but I pray "none" is a color option.
  20. We can only hope. Hasten might enjoy a renaissance.
  21. Only Doom is that this isn't on test NOW.
  22. [ QUOTE ]
Well of course it could of been better if the sets you wanted didn't get ported.

Even if the sets you listed got ported, someone could have said it could've been better because they wanted the other powersets.

It will vary with different peoples opinions.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well sorta. Some ATs only got either a primary or secondary although there were appropriate choices available. Examples:

Brutes - Still could have Regen, Ice, Ninjitsu (well maybe) but only got a primary (claws)

Dominators - Could have gotten Illusion (in fact, that's all they need to be finished with primaries), but only got a secondary (Earth Assault)

What's really goofy here is that they'll probably have to create a few powers from scratch where Illusion could just port over.

Stalkers - Could have gotten Ice, Fire, Invul (ok lol to that, but still) but only got a primary (Broadsword).
  23. QR

Hopefully Conserve Power will be replaced with some sort of heal/regen/+health.

So, one of you numbers people:

If Elec is ported to Tankers as is, what are we looking at in terms of resistance numbers?

    [/ QUOTE ]

55% about to Sm, Le, Fire, Cold, Psi
    90% to Energy
    About 47% to Negative.
