  1. I can't run herostats while I play on this outdated machine I have or it'll lag me out, so I did this the old-fashioned way, with a clock and a pencil.

Council Empire map, DM/SD Scrapper, +3/x8 yes bosses (actually slightly more efficient than no bosses; DM's ST focus makes killing them worth having for the higher inf reward) came out to about 26-27 mil an hour after sales, plus a few assorted pieces of rare salvage.

Insps used: tons. I try to keep the equivalent of 4-5 small reds running at all times, plus the occasional green because Eagle's Claw crit really hurts.

The problem with that is that you never see that variety unless you're on a big team or on a high difficulty.

Tsoo also run into the problem of having very little variety in their minions except in the lower end of their level range. Which again leads to stacking debuff spam and is an example of what not to do.

Yes it is possible. "Defeat All" doesn't grey out anything but itself.
  4. My search-fu, she is weak.

What's the top single-target DPS chain for a Fire/Elec Blaster and how much recharge do you need in each attack to make it happen?

And has someone written up a DPS comparison for Blaster sets?
  5. Required objectives will always show up in the nav bar. If you want to remove the bosses from the nav bar, make them not required for mission complete, and don't put anything in the nav text plural or nav text singular fields.

If you want them required but don't want a list of all their names, set their plural nav text to be exactly the same. Then it'll say "5 crates of weapons to find, 5 bosses to defeat" instead of a long, messy list.
  6. I don't like to think about those things. A lot. My DB/SR and DM/SD were easily over 5 billion: Gladiator's Armor unique, Shield Walls, multiple purple sets, 5 LotGs, a bunch of procs...my MA/Regen is probably close to 5 billion at today's prices, although I tricked her out for about a billion back in the day and actually made about a billion selling off IOs when I respecced her during the AE heyday of i14.

I have yet to use a respec recipe though. I still have level 50 Scrappers that have never done a respec trial and actually taken the respec.

  8. The Council/5th are also fond of high tech of the robot variety, particularly Vandal and Burkholder, and Nosferatu is into the whole genetic modification shtick.

Malta too. Those big robots had to come from somewhere, and they've managed to develop a gun specifically to counter powers related to the Well of Furies, so they must have some brains working on the whole "taking down people with super powers" issue.

Unless of course they're just buying all that stuff from Crey. Whom they are shown negotiating with, so they do get some stuff from Crey, but the Orestes rifle was developed by them.
  9. #431270 is newly published and listed on CoHMR, and could use some shredding.

There's no law saying you have to put it on autofire. If you hit it when it's recharged and you have a second to spare (like before the fight) it'll never interrupt a combo, and if you forgot to hit it there's a ten-second warning with the flashing icon, plenty of time to finish your combo.

SR is about as clicky as Invul. Less so, if you're using Dull Pain as a heal rather than preemptively.

At the same time, none of their regular members have an "I Win" button.
They do however all have an "I'm going to **** you up" button for one powerset or another. The trick is that all the critters have a different button. No one powerset is completely useless, but no one powerset is completely safe.

As opposed to Longbow. They have ONE lieutenant, which makes resistance-based armors almost useless. Not only do they take away all your resistance, but there's a very good chance they'll stun you right through your mez protection if you face them in numbers. And they all spam that stupid stun to kill squishies. Whereas if you've got high defense, they're a total joke.

The point: Make more than one lieutenant.

To add to the list of enemy groups to avoid emulating I'd like to point out the Vanguard. I love their story and all but man are they a pain to go up against. They hit hard and have a plethora of debuffs to tag you with. And they feature the Curse of Weariness, perhaps one of the most debilitating NPC powers in the game. A single Vanguard member with this power can be difficult. Add one of them in a spawn with the others and their debuffs and you'll wanna rip your hair out. Crowd Control makes them much easier to handle but it does the same with everything else. If you wanna make an arc that everyone can enjoy be mindful of this sorta thing.

Yeah, well it's a good thing authors don't have access to 15-minute debuffs that persist through death for the custom critters. Otherwise you can be sure some authors would be using them on every critter in the name of "challenge."

The devs get to cheat so they can make us go get temp powers. Fortunately, we don't get to cheat.
  15. Or it could be that people are expecting the merged market to lower prices and are getting rid of their expensive items now. Or they don't want to losing money in the chaos of the merge, and are getting rid of their expensive items now.

I have a dual build for base editing, it has hover on it. I haven't bothered to level it up past 10.

I started putting together a high-defense second build on my main but gave up after the BotZ nerf.

The last patch changed that, they scale down again.
  17. The Dam/End is a rare enemy drop, so you can get it from Bronze or Silver rolls. The Dam/End/Rech is a pool C, so you can only get it through Gold rolls, which are not worth it.

I tend to roll bronze in the 30-34 range. Chances are you won't get you Kinetic Combats, but you can get some good recipes, sell them, place some bids on the Kinetic Combats and wait.

It could be either. What it does imply is that Rularuu is NOT a dimension-devouring space-god, unless the Dream Doctor has a very high opinion of himself, and everything that is said about him in game suggests that he is quite humble for someone of his implied abilities.

    Quote:
To me this reads less as a created "being" and more as having forced itself into existence (something seen here and there in other myths - an idea portrayed with will giving itself shape as a godling.) But again, that's my read of it, and I may be piecing it together differently and missing or misremembering some info.
Again, it could be both. Rularuu is stark raving mad. He could have been unable to contain his rage, and subconsciously willed it to manifest as a separate aspect. In a simplified sense, it's multiple personality disorder, in which, at least in fictional portrayals, the main personality subconsciously creates the others, but the others are self-aware. The angry one could very well believe he created himself because he no longer wanted to be part of a guy who allowed himself to be locked up.

Writing actual missions around the lore (canon, speculation, or made up) is difficult, I agree. You have to give the player interesting ways to get all the exposition, and then there are many players who would avoid the arc just because it would necessitate using a difficult enemy group.

    Quote:
Also, I doubt a being that is capable of consuming entire dimensions really needs Portal technology.
The Rularuu try to get it in Quaterfield's abomination of a TF. We're not supposed to let them.

    Quote:
As for not seeing Rularuu in other dimensions, I believe that it's just a matter of chance. It's not really that Rularuu can't get to our dimension, it's simply that he didn't. For a being whose only purpose is to consume dimensions, what makes Paragon City's dimension so special? What makes any dimension special? How fast can he consume dimensions? What is the topology of the multiverse? We don't know his motives for choosing dimensions, nor should we assume any motives for consuming any particular dimension.
According to your theory, our dimension is special because he is from here. Even in canon, he was imprisoned by people from our dimension. Revenge.

The fact that he can't is again implied in Quaterfield's TF.

    Quote:
In other words, assume that Rularuu is truly imprisoned and cannot consume dimensions while in the Shadow Shard. Thus, to have "absorbed thousands of dimensions" according to his description, he would have had to have consumed those many dimensions before his imprisonment. If he had invaded so much, then it is still possible that Portal Corporation would have seen evidence of Rularuu in other dimensions.
If he had consumed them before his imprisonment, they would have been gone before Portal Corp existed. They never say what "consume" means. Does he eat everything in the whole entire universe? Does he just take all the good stuff? All we know is that it's bad. Cue Galactus comparisons.

Let's assume his "consuming" a dimension renders the Earth completely uninhabitable, if it's even there anymore. What does Portal Corp do with dimensions that we can't explore? We are never told. What about a dimension where they find a big expanse of nothing where our solar system would be? That is assuming that the consumed dimensions don't just wink out of existence, in which case Portal Corp would never find them because they don't exist.

Ok, that's all fine and good if he's been eating dimensions for a very long time. They were gone before we knew to look for them. But if he is still snacking away in his imprisonment....how many dimensions have we catalogued? Far more than we ever see in game. Whether any of those dimensions would be statistically likely to just suddenly go poof is of course dependent on the number of dimensions out there, but the law of comic-book probability skews the odds of it happening.

    Quote:
Also, for a being possessed of great intellect and that "knows all the tricks" according to his description, then why would he choose to invade a dimension as a single being at a location where he would face the greatest opposition (a point made in an old Rularuu thread by another user, Samuel_Tow)? It just doesn't add up to me.
    Again, revenge. Also, arrogance.

    Quote:
Thus, it suggests that Lanaru was separate from Rularuu and worked as an executioner, and that Lanaru built himself a palace. In my belief, this suggests that Lanaru was already a separate being but became angry and severed his association with Rularuu. Again, I could be wrong. It's details like this that weren't explained well enough in canon; I hope Issue 18 fills in some of these gaps.
He is and he isn't. They are all separate beings, but they are all Rularuu. He's kinda like the Borg that way.

In a way, the fact that he separates himself like that lends credence to the theory that he was once human. He has god-like power, but his mind just couldn't handle it, so it fragmented itself into multiple aspects, each with more limited power, each with more limited responsibilities, but all ultimately part of the whole. What does a mad god need with kindness? Why would a mad god essentially take pictures of his dinner (the Reflections)? Wouldn't a being of such power be above such petty emotions as anger, pity, and regret?

I still think he is far, far older than the Dream Doctor. I think the quote in the Midnight Club could refer to the fact that he started out much like the Dream Doctor, as a very powerful meta-human able to transcend many of the same limitations, but went too far, went mad, and turned into what he is. The Dream Doctor could be using him as an example of what not to do.
  19. #411446 Evolve or Die

Why I chose it: MA Arc Finder channel

Frostfire is out on parole and looking to redeem himself. I'm his parole officer. It's a good premise, a good overall story, but the pacing is a bit off, and it could use a bit more polish.

    #343565 A Woman Chromed

Why I chose it: Listed in the author's forum sig. The title sounded cool.

Doc Buzzsaw has an idea, and she wants my help making it happen. What could possibly go wrong? That's a rhetorical question of course. It's a fun and very funny arc, with some great dialogue. And again, Freaks.

Flippers are helping combat inflation. They're performing a public service.

I'm against price caps because if everything good went off-market it would be a MASSIVE PAIN IN THE BUTT to acquire anything. Placing a bid is way way easier and faster than trying to find someone willing to sell what you want to buy. I don't care about your profits. I want my stuff.
  21. You should write an AE arc.

It's a pretty good theory, except for the timing of it.

It's pretty clear that Rularuu is a prisoner in the Shard. He can't get out. That's why he's so keen on getting portal technology, so he can get out. If he can't get to our dimension, why would he be able to get to others? Would the Midnight Squad be so irresponsible as to seal him away just from our dimension, not from all dimensions? And if they were that irresponsible, why has Portal corps not run into any other dimensions that are threatened by Rularuu? Which means he wouldn't have had much time to go around eating dimensions before he was locked up, if he was a contemporary of the Dream Doctor.

As for why he eats dimensions, because he's insane, because he can, and because there are no burger joints in the Shadow Shard.

I had a grand total of ZERO before AE came out.

I clear mine when they're no longer relevant, so I'm down to 8 that I've been too lazy to delete, but most of mine have been discussions and feedback on AE arcs and a few people asking how to get the gun in my avatar.

Rularuu are tough because the eyeballs completely bypass defense then debuff it very quickly, and the Brutes hit like Mac trucks. They are a good example of why you should avoid "I win" buttons on critters. It's like giving half the group Rage and KO Blow, then throwing in some Rad/Rads with Aim and some psi guys. Don't do that.

Arachnos is a much better example of a varied enemy group. They also have a few extreme effects that make them more difficult, and can be avoided with custom critters if you don't want to make them quite so hard (Bane Stealth Strikes, Tarantula Mistresses debuffs, -perception and -tohit, end drain, stacking slows, etc.) They are STILL easier than Rularuu because those effects aren't AS extreme as an eyeball that can hit you reliably through soft-capped defenses WHEN THEY'RE SIX LEVELS LOWER THAN YOU.

Oh, I make it a point to answer newbie questions sent through tells or asked in broadcast even if I'm hiding. I may be busy at the market, or working on an AE arc, and unable to take the time to join your team, but I can always take the time to respond to a few tells.

I've actually had quite a few people look at my powersets while I'm AFK at the train or doing market stuff and ask me questions about them. Helping those who are willing to learn makes for a better playerbase.

Don't get me wrong, this is a huge reason why I think the game is so great, but it is also a strong reason to be more tolerent of the large section of the community who might not have the knowledge to immediately identify what these sets do. Unfortunately though, many veterens I think don't have time for this, and sometimes it frustrates me too (see previous rants), but if we shut our doors and windows and only team with people from our global channels then we are doing this community a huge disservice. Just my 2 inf.
In my experience the ignorant veterans who think they know everything due to their veteran status far outnumber ignorant newbies who want to learn. YMMV.
