Isn't that the number one rule of roleplaying? Your character only knows what the character knows, not necessarily what you know.

    "Nope."

  2. They don't want to. Dual Pistols misses occasionally. Malta Gunslingers can hit you reliably through soft-capped defenses with guns held sideways. Even the ones with the eyepatch.

I gave my Dual Pistols guy an eyepatch in the hopes of improving his accuracy. Depth perception is for wimps.

    • Either remove the need to escort Infernia and Glacia, making them regular allies, or allow them to escape on their own so that them dieing does not fail the mission.
Penny can also be killed. She's a combatant. That's what's been done on the two MoLGTF runs I've been on: send a Scrapper or Brute to free Penny and then let her get killed while the rest of the team waits at the door. Apparently relying on the Tank/Brute to eat a couple of purples so they don't get killed by the CWK is too risky or something.

Yes, I'm asking the Devs to kill many of the tricks speed runners use. Maybe then we can get more decent TF teams than people who just expect to stealth everything, plus a possible increase to the amount of merits that the LGTF awards.
While we're killing the tricks speed runners use, get rid of the rooftop spawns in the ITF. Or have Rommy not spawn until you've killed the 300 Romans. And give the Sybils in the first mission proper guards instead of the three guys each they currently have. And every time a Corruptor, Defender, Controller, or Blaster drops dead on the Crystal mission a swarm of Sappers and Dark Ring Mistresses teleports in for no real reason and zeroes in on every melee character who isn't within 300 feet of said dead squishy.

Why yes, I do hate speed runs. I especially hate that they have become the standard, and if you don't do them you're weird and and nobody wants to play with you, or if they do play with you they stealth ahead and teleport everybody anyway. The only reason I don't suggest doing anything to change the third mission is that it's so laggy everybody bypasses it, even the few "let's kill 'em all" players I know.

We should start with the ITF and LGTF because they are newer, and do not suck. The older TFs should remain speed-runnable until they stop sucking, or until they stop being needed for an accolade.

So? You can do one long boring TF for X amount of merits, or two shorter, more fun TFs for the same amount. Plus they're shorter, there's less time investment required, it's easier to get people to run them. Plus they're less boring, so people actually want to run them instead of just running them because they have to for the accolade and never touching them again, so it's easier to get people to run them.

While we're on the subject of TFs and getting people to run them, reduce the number of people needed to start them. There is no reason any of the heroside TFs below level 40 should require more than four people to start. TFs over 40 shouldn't require more than six. If I and a few of my friends decide we want to run a TF, we shouldn't be standing around for half an hour spamming global channels to try to convince more people to join us because of some arbitrary number the devs decided was needed six years ago.

    Quote:
I think we're all dreaming if we think anything will ever get rewritten, though. Despite years of the player base screaming itself hoarse over the issue, the devs don't seem to realize that many (a majority of?) players prefer improvements and revamps to entirely new stuff.
A friend of mine was playing through Praetoria the other day and noted some NPC chatter about how Praetor Berry(?) would rather build new Clockwork than fix the old broken ones. We all thought it was a shot at the devs' tendency to chase new shinies and leave the old stuff to rot. So they might be at least listening to the screaming, even if they're not doing anything about it.

It's joy riding and smashing mail boxes with your powers-of-deities. Then Daddy Hardcase calls you in and gives you a very stern talking to, making you mow the lawn and fix the mailboxes.

The whole arc was exactly what my character would act like and how the world would treat him. Unless you want to add an option to flip Hardcase the finger even after Verandi's true intentions are revealed, I want no changes.
Flip him the finger? How about punch him in the face? This is what I'm talking about with your character being forced to maintain the status quo. You are railroaded into doing what he tells you to, or else. And to make matters worse, now you apparently have the option to beat him up in a tip mission...so why are you doing what he says again?

My proposed rewrite: You get two options; you can go along with Hardcase and clean up the mess you made, or you can go along with Verandi and make even more of a mess, forcing Hardcase to clean it up, after which you have to fight him. Either way, the status quo is maintained, but you have a choice, and either way you're not being railroaded into anything.

The PO contacts could stand to be extended to 15, I agree. The problem with the Cap contacts is that many of them have you facing enemy groups that cap out at 20 (Goldbrickers mostly, but there are also a few missions with Luddites.) Besides, we don't really need more content in the low 20s redside, now that we have the evil twin arc and Darrin Wade. We need more content redside in the high 20s and the 30s. Not that I run out, it's just that the 22-30 Nerva arcs all suck IMO except the one with the sapper gun, and getting through the 30s requires you to pretty much do everything if you solo, which gets old when you've run multiple villains through all the arcs. It doesn't help that villains don't get a Croatoa equivalent or a low-30s Task Force while heroes get three Task Forces in the mid- to late twenties and two in the low 30s, and three of those Task Forces don't suck.

    Quote:
That said, Darrin Wade in Sharkhead requires no introduction, and when you conclude his arc I believe he offers you an intro to one of the other Sharkhead contacts, so you can probably skip the papers in Sharkhead altogether if you're so inclined.
That's one level bracket that allows you to skip papers to get contacts. If you want the mayhem for temp powers and badges you still have to do them. They are the most boring "content" in the game. Either make new, more interesting papers along the lines of the simpler tip missions (and increase the frequency with which the "rob the bank" style papers show up, they're already more interesting than "beat up random guy" or "steal random thing") or drop it to three so we can get the badges with less tedium, like they have done for many other badges. This goes for blueside and safeguards as well, even though they're not needed to get contacts.

That isn't the point. The point is I want to level off of content, not filler. If there is enough content available to level through playing content, there is no longer any point to doing filler.

Yes, I know Scirocco needs to be stopped. I like being evil, thank you very much. Even if I'm not so evil, I like my free will, thank you very much. I don't need freakin' Arbiter Daos to tell me Scirocco needs to be stopped. That part has to go.

Scorp's ain't much better. Sure, he's disobeying LR, but, so what? Why can't I chose to side with him? Same with Mako (though, admittedly, he would probably betray you...)
All these arcs are just "the status quo must be preserved at all costs, you're a good little Arachnos lackey aren't you, go preserve the status quo." As with everything that involves you being a good little Arachnos lackey, they need to be redone. The other HUGE Arachnos lackey issue that needs to be resolved is the LRSF. In order to even start it you need the Usurper badge, which means Recluse has told you "You are a true villain, beholden to no one," and then he sends you off to resolve his little tiff with Statesman for him and hands you the Servant of Recluse badge? I don't think so!

The Freedom Phalanx TFs also need a revamp. Synapse: I'm so sick of Clocks. Psyche: I'm so sick of Freaks. Yes, I know "everybody likes Freaks." Well so do I, but not mission after mission of them. If you like them so much go flashback the Freakalympics arc. Citadel: I'm so sick of Council. It doesn't help there are two other TFs in the same level bracket with Council. Manticore: I'm so sick of Crey. Numina: The hunt missions are boring and stupid.

Quaterfield. Just...Quaterfield. And Justin Augustine too.

All of blueside. Just...all of blueside. Too many fed-exes, too many hunts, too many defeat alls, too many "your princess is in another castle," too many redundant missions.

Any mission with a hostage that must be kept alive or an object that must be defended. These are easy to complete solo, not so easy with a team, especially if the people trying to destroy the object aggro from halfway across the map ("Get the News Out," I'm looking at you) and when the hostage is an idiot (Hello General Z. Don't go charging into melee with that pack of Nemesis General Z. Goodbye General Z. Mission Failed.)

I'd also like a revamp of the contact system redside. Especially the five papers to get a mayhem at higher levels. I hate papers. I like content. Leave it at three all the way to 50. With XP smoothing, patrol XP and the addition of the RWZ and Cimerora running out of content isn't a problem anymore, and if you do run out you can always choose to do papers, or run tips.

Oh, and what about all those times they give out two freespecs an issue because they didn't give enough notice, or they gave it out early and all the new characters made with the issue's new powersets didn't get one, or everybody complained for some other reason?

Besides, free respecs don't stack, so they could hand out ten at a time and you'd still only be able to use one, HA!

"I've been working undercover in the Rogue Isles for the last 20 levels."

"I've been working undercover in Praetoria for the last 20 levels." While the game doesn't say we're sending people over there to infiltrate Powers Division and the Resistance, it also doesn't say we're not, afaik.

  8. Because that's the only way to slot Active Defense for defense. Defense enhancements also increase defense debuff resistance. It's probably a bug. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the DDR in Active Defense were to be flagged as unenhanceable.

Note that AAO is a very strong taunt aura, while RttC is a weak one. You might be pulling aggro off your tank more often than you'd like. Although Phalanx Fighting will be helping you out there, and if your controller takes Maneuvers that will help even more.

I have a lot of characters. I'm not going to bother counting.

My Widow has two builds, one Widow and one Fortunata. I have pretty much lost interest in the Widow build though.

My main has a second high-defense build that I pretty much gave up on after the BotZ nerf. I'm probably going to just pull the enhancements out of it.

My Brute from the early days of CoV is actually using her second build, since the first one is the SOd level 30-something build I was running when inventions came out. I wanted to keep her playable while I was tricking her out with IOs, so I used the second build. The first build is completely unneccessary now.

My Scrapper has a second base editing build with Hover, since I respecced it out on my main build. I haven't bothered training it up past level 10 or so, vastly confusing my SG mates who see that my second 50 is constantly sitting at level 10.

None of my characters need more respecs. Most of them have never even taken the respec reward on the respec trial or used up all their vetspecs. Mids is my friend.

    Ambushes - FFS

The first time I ran the Malta ambush of DOOOOMMM mission on my DM/Shields I got splattered by the third or fourth wave (on +1/x8, so the first two weren't dead yet. There were Gunslingers. Gunslingers suck when you rely on defense.) Cue Nerdrage.

Then I figured out how the ambushes work, and now it's my favorite tip to do on that character. On x8 inspirations drop like rain, and with a bunch of reds going and that many Malta fuelling AAO and Soul Drain, they die fairly fast. The only downside is all that freaking smoke from the missle swarms. Oh lord how I hate that smoke.

Still trying to beat it on my DB/SR. All that lethal resistance makes the bosses take too long to kill and they pile up after a while...if you're having accuracy problems with your Dual Pistols toon remember to hold the gun sideways, and wear an eyepatch just for good measure.

But that's a high-level mission, and being a tip it can be dismissed, so it's entirely optional and doesn't stop your story arc dead until you can autocomplete it. It isn't nearly as offensive as the fact that nearly ALL the tip missions contain double-boss spawns even on x3.

But Praetoria...those are low level missions. We have no Stamina. We have no insps. We miss all the time. We have no heals. WE SUCK. Give it (us) a rest.

    Um, no.

Statesman and Recluse are bad enough. We don't need any more actual humans with even more insane power levels. The way newer content has been presented, it makes us look like the big heroes. In tip missions we constantly run into heroes and villains who are on par with us. The new signature characters are on par with us. In Maria's new arc the Freedom Phalanx acknowledge us as big-time heroes in our own right. Upgrading a character, and a parallel version of a character in our world at that, to be so powerful he requires more than one team of us to defeat would be a huge step back.

Rularuu and Hamidon and Leviathan and their ilk are a different story. You ain't gonna solo Cthulhu, I don't care how good your build is. He's freakin' Cthulhu. Those are global threats, the kind heroes traditionally team up to take down. So we could have a raid-type event involving the Leviathan, Merulina, Shiva, or the guys who use Kheldians as rocket fuel. A raid style event in Praetoria could involve either the Hamidon or a whole lot of War Walkers. Tyrant himself is just a powerful guy, on par with Statesman, and should stay that way; it's his legions of killer robots that are the threat.
  12. Ok, we know the Carnies are "good guys" in Praetoria. We know Vanessa is allied with the Resistance. What else do we know about them? I haven't played through Praetoria much yet, but I have an idea for a character to play through Praetoria with, that is tied into the Carnies. Paragonwiki doesn't seem to have much info on them yet.

Namely I want to know: How does the psychic link work? Is it the same as Primal Earth Vanessa's?

Is Vanessa able to keep the Seers out of people's heads?
  13. You would think that an issue that was supposed to have hints of endgame content which was later pulled out would throw people who like to play 50s a bone and at least have more missions in the 40-50 range.

Furthermore: there aren't any heroic 40-50 tips that are CoT. There's one with some CoT in it but it's mostly Longbow. There aren't any heroic 40-50 tips that are Crey. Lots of Carnies though, usually with two MIs guarding all the hostages even on sane difficulties. Most disappointing of all, there is only one heroic 40-50 tip that is 5th Column, and it's the one with stupid invisible Maelstrom and it uses chained objectives in the 5th base map which usually means backtracking.

I want more Heroic tip missions with 5th. Because nothing is more heroic than punching, stabbing, shooting, and kicking Nazis. Also, whoever decided it would be a good idea to have a combat escort in a Knives of Artemis mission should have their entire house carpeted in caltrops.
  14. A Roleplayer who can't find a way to integrate other people's characters into their roleplay without being insulting or disruptive is a bad roleplayer.

A CoH roleplayer who doesn't acknowledge that people are coming over from Praetoria and make allowances for people who RP their Praetorian characters as Praetorians is a bad CoH roleplayer.

That guy sounds like one of those people who happen to catch a glance at a fellow party member's character sheet, notice it says "Lawful Evil" and start treating said character like crap even though the character has never done anything detrimental to the party.
  15. My Fire/Traps Corruptor's backstory has always been that he's commiting evil acts in the Rogue Isles in service of a greater good. He was rightfully arrested, but it was for vigilante-style actions rather than eating babies, and he went along with the Arachnos breakout because he felt redeeming himself in his own eyes was more important than redeeming himself in the eyes of the law, and he saw opportunity to do good in the Isles. He's been around the Rogue Isles long enough to acquire a lot of information to trade for a pardon, so he's coming home.

My Fire/Storm Corruptor on the other hand, I have no idea what to do with. She hasn't had a proper backstory since I rerolled her from a Defender when Storm got ported over, but she was always supposed to be a hero. I might just retcon her.
  16. People are running 50s and farming, only they're farming Alignment Merits instead of Council Empire.
  17. Ok I get the tournament system you have --sort of-- and kudos to you for making your own fun. What I don't get is why you have to delete all your characters and start over every issue. Why not just roll up more characters to add to the teams?

And that's why we need another one. I'd prefer Martial Arts to Dark Manipulation (the other obvious candidate for proliferation, especially if Dark Blast gets proliferated also) since conceptually it's more flexible. Or we can get both! Yes, both. Every other AT has gotten multiple new/proliferated primaries and secondaries, and Blasters have only gotten a single new secondary since release. I realize Blaster secondaries can't be shared with other ATs and so aren't as efficient a use of dev resources as sets that can be shared, but MMs have gotten two new pet sets also, so it's our turn.

http://www.badge-hunter.com has information on all the accolades, the badges required for them, and how to get them.

If you go heroside, the easiest to get is the Atlas Medallion. It adds 5% to your max endurance and you can get it by yourself in the mid-20s. Other accolades you definitely want are Freedom Phalanx Reserve Member/High Pain Threshold (+10% max HP), Task Force Commander/Invader (+5% max HP) and Portal Jockey/Born in Battle (+5% HP, +5% End). And no, you can't stack the hero and villain versions, only one will be active at a time, depending on what side you're on.

Maelstrom tried to Crane Kick me yesterday. So now I want Martial Arts for a Blaster too.

Single-target immobilize: possibly a Web Grenade-like power. Personally I'd like to not have a single-target immobilize, and instead have something more like Power Thrust, which I find much more useful at high levels where enemy ranged attacks will pound you into the ground just as easily as melee attacks and if you want to stay out of melee you can kite without spending the animation time firing off your immobilize and rooting yourself so the rest of the spawn can close to melee. So I'd like a Power Thrust clone, with the Crane Kick animation.

Thunder Kick: Use the Energy Punch damage scale.

Storm Kick: Use the Bonesmasher damage scale. No Crippling Axe Kick because I hate it.

    Focus Chi.

Old Cobra Strike, using Stun numbers.

Eagle's Claw: Tier 9, similar to Total Focus.

    Dragon's Tail.

    Blinding Powder.

    Smoke Flash.

Voila, a quick and dirty secondary. No new animations needed, just some number tweaking. I'd play it in a heartbeat.

You may need those 6 slots for the set bonuses. Many sets give defense as the 6-slot bonus.

    Quote:
4 slotted Tough, Weave, Active Defense, Battle Agility for 3 def and an end
Active Defense only needs 3 slots tops, and that's if you're using it for Defense Debuff resistance in the end game. When you're leveling up two recharge SOs will keep it perma, if you're tight on slots. It's touchy without Hasten though, especially when they start to go yellow, so you might want three just to be safe.

    Quote:
3 slotted Health & Stamina, 6 slotted Phys Perfection (max benefit before diversity from regens, is this workable with 2/2/4 using Frankenslotting?)
Physical Perfection gives less benefit than Health, so that's another place you might be able to lose some slots. Once you get to that level you should be getting quite a bit of end redux in your attacks from sets, so you may not need to slot it for recovery at all, beyond a Performance Shifter proc.

    Quote:
Is AAO worth slotting? How far do you slot One With the Shield?
AAO only takes end redux. I've never slotted it. One With the Shield might be a skippable since it's situational, doesn't take recharge enhancements, and often if you really need your "oh crap" power you drop dead while it's activating. Get the Eye of the Magus/Demonic accolade and save yourself a power pick.
  22. Plan on respeccing. If you try to build a top-end build from level 1 onward you'll be in for a hard time levelling unless you pretty much team all the time.

Take Whirling Sword and/or Slice unless you're specifically building to solo AVs. Shield Charge is awesome but it doesn't annihilate everything anymore if you're on a higher difficulty (which you'll be able to run on, with a solid build), and is pretty much only up once per spawn, and then only if you're running a top-end build. I only wish I had a second AoE to go with it.

I personally hate having my click mez protection on autofire. It always fires off when I don't want it to, and besides I have Hasten on autofire. If you choose to leave it off autofire it'll mean you'll have to pay attention to make sure to fire it off when necessary, but it's your only click, so it's not like you're a Regen or something.

Oh, and welcome to the game.

We've been being annoyed by them all this time. This complaint and suggestions on how to deal with it comes up somewhere every month or so. Of course there haven't been demons roaring every three seconds all this time. Just people running Quills or putting their farming PbAoE or Build Up or heal on autofire, or deciding that you absolutely need Thermal shields in order to do your marketing in safety.

The problem with power suppression at Wentworths is that I went to a lot of trouble to get my little portable workbench, and how would you suppress powers without disabling the workbench? It's not just my laziness that is at stake here; nearly every time I drop the thing someone else walks up and starts using it. And what about all the self-only, noiseless, often FX-less toggles some people run a lot of? Very annoying to have to turn them all back on.

The obvious solution: shut the demons up. Seriously. We get it, they're big and scary, they don't need to keep roaring to prove their point. Remove the roaring while they're idle and there goes a huge chunk of their annoyance factor. That is, assuming my invisible pet fence idea isn't feasible.
  24. I would end up being totally vigilante. If I wanted to enforce the law as it is I would become a police officer. I don't, because in many cases I don't agree with it.

As for killing people, what's to say I have any less moral authority to decide who lives or dies than all the people who currently decide these things? I'd say I have a lot more moral authority than a lot of the people who currently get to decide these things, since I'm not motivated by political expediency or stupid amounts of money.

I wouldn't be going after muggers anyway. Maybe when I'm bored. If I had actual super powers, no matter how minor, I'd be on a total "save the world" kick. I'd be going after politicians, corporations, dictators, militaries, that sort of thing. Of course I'd be breaking laws all over the place, but I do draw the line at putting innocent people in harm's way.

And they purposefully put it in the Loyalist Responsibility route, just in case you were getting any ideas about upholding the law and being a good person just like you could in CoH.
This is probably it. They're trying to avoid portraying either side as "the good guys," so both sides have to do some not-good things. Your character personally has to do these things just to make sure you, the player, are paying attention and can't handwave it away as "oh, well my character doesn't know about all that stuff, I'm totally heroic."
