  1. About the fitness pool being made inherent: I don't see how it's necessary honestly. We won't be getting any more slots for those power picks we're freeing up. Which means I'll be spending those three saved power picks on filler like Super Speed. Second, I predict Stamina will inherently unlock at 20, which won't do anything to speed up gameplay in the early levels of the game. And if making the Fitness pool inherent means that it either can't be slotted (doubtful) or that the effectiveness of the powers is decreased, no thanks. You take your inherent Fitness and shove it you-know-where.

Secondly: A new task force? Really? A new Task Force does not really constitute "more end-game content." It's nice to have but it's far from enough. Either you can do it in two hours or it's so long nobody wants to do it, and it leaves soloists out in the cold. Besides, everyone will set to the lowest difficulty and find the the best way to speed run it soon enough, sucking all the fun out of it.

A story driven Alpha Incarnate slot: Nice. As long as it's soloable. And by soloable I don't mean "by a melee character" or "with Shivans." No EBs that two-shot squishies from range and have Unstoppable, tyvm.

Primal Earthers in Praetoria: Yay badges. Hopefully this also means the Preatorian arcs will be available in Ouroboros, for those of us who don't have four new characters they want to make and solo all the way through.

More tip missions: Please. Hopefully also more morality missions.

Mission maps getting a "minor update:" hopefully this doesn't translate to "we'll be making them prettier, ie laggier" (unless it means "we'll be making them prettier in Ultra mode," in which case I don't care), and doesn't wreak too much havoc on people's AE arcs.

Ok so you're blaming team composition and powerset choice when the real problems are, 1: two nearly useless characters and one that may be useless, I don't know, depends on how the buffless troller uses his primary, and 2: setting your difficulty too high for a PuG with no SOs.

I could make it even harder and throw in some petless MMs or blappers if you want. Or try it at +4. I bet I could come up with a team that could run through at +4 with ease.

If you don't use inspirations for tough fights then you're playing with one hand tied behind your back, and you have no one to blame for a teamwipe but yourself. There is NOTHING more annoying than someone dying, trying to hand them an awaken and their tray is full. The second most annoying thing is the dead guy asking for a purple or green to combine into an awaken.

    Five Scrappers: Tank? HAHAHAHAHA.

I have played my Ill/Emp troller on a team that was otherwise four or five Scrappers. The most aggressive one was Spines/Fire with some delusions of tankhood. Probably the second-most fun I've ever had playing support, trying to keep those guys alive.

(And yes, I was applying Fortitude to three or four people at once, and it's slotted for defense and recharge. They just turned up the difficulty. Because they were Scrappers.)

You guys and your "complementary powersets" and "all tanker teams" and "buffs/debuffs" and all those silly unneccessary things.

I tried to get my static team to agree on an all-Blaster team for our Preatoria run. But we're going with all buff/debuff because they are all wusses. So we will have to resort to my Plan B: an all-drunk team. No, it's not on Pinnacle.
  5. I've had one drop from running tip missions. I sold it, even though the prices will be higher once people use up their freebies, since I have an unfortunate tendency to accidentally vendor/list for 1 inf valuable items I want to hang onto.

I think the only other respec recipe I've had drop was before the new difficulty sliders, when I amused myself hunting in the RWZ.
  6. After reading some other people's responses, especially Ironik's, I think I should clarify I have a very broad definition of "someone to cheer for." In a work of fiction I can "cheer for" someone who is not heroic at all, who has no redeeming qualities whatsoever, who is completely unlikeable and out to do the wrong thing, if they are a compelling and interesting character. I want them to succeed because I want to see what they will do next. More to the point, I want them not to die, because then they won't be able to entertain me anymore.

Yes, that means I do cheer for the villain and the hero at the same time. It may be a foregone conclusion that the hero will win, but you can at least hope that the villain will be back for the sequel.

  8. I like it. That's why I do it, I like doing it. I have stories to tell, and AE lets me do that. Ideas pop into my head while I'm playing or just at random, and AE lets me do something with them. Occasionally someone will even play them and say nice things about them.

Of course I start way more arcs than I actually finish. I come up with a basic premise, characters to play it out with, I play around with the mechanics a lot, but I'm not that good at actually putting out a finished product. My most recent published arc sat nearly finished (as in, completely playable except for some missing contact dialogue) for months before I finally redid the contact completely, polished it up, and published it.

Tho, I was thinking about not going for Fireball in a 50 build. I'm definately picking it for the xp time for AoE reasons as I'll stick to me 2 basic attack till I have enough recharge.

But I was thinking lately, in a minmaxing point of vue, I have no interest on fast killing minions around me till I'm done with bosses. I mean, both AAO and Soul Drain scales on mob number, so having stuff around me actually buffes me. Right?
If you're doing DM/SD without Fireball, you're right. You only have one big AoE, and you only get to fire it once per spawn pretty much, so what point you fire it at is irrelevant, as long as it's buffed by Soul Drain and AAO.

What I do is run in, start pounding on bosses while everybody gathers into melee, hit Soul Drain, hit the bosses some more, getting them down to about 1/4 health or so, then hit Shield Charge. If I'm taking more damage than I'm comfortable with I'll hit Shield Charge earlier, but then the bosses take longer to finish off.
  10. Someone to cheer for. I'm a girl. I don't get anyone to identify with in the kind of genres I like. The protagonist is still nearly always a guy. When you do get a female protagonist, the circumstances are usually so extreme that they make her difficult, if not impossible to identify with.

When I make characters, sometimes I make "this powerset and this powerset would be awesome together," but sometimes I make CHARACTERS. I've never had a problem coming up with characters that are interesting to me. The only problem is making characters that are interesting to me and that fit the powersets I'm interested in playing.

I don't know about controlled by the shoulder rodent toons, but a friend of mine has a toon named Fayne and Trev. Fayne is the toon, Trev is the shoulder rodent, he was a sentient lab rat or some such. One has dark powers, one has rad powers.
  12. I had a friend a long time ago who unfortunately no longer plays whose main was an Empath named Buddy Christ. His real life best friend then joined the game and made Buddy Satan. I think they both managed to avoid the generic bat.
  13. Screw riding a Titan, I wanna ride the Kronos!

Which is a question I asked in the Canon Fodder thread and never had answered: is the Kronos Titan a brain in a jar/a collection of brains in jars or is it piloted? I know if I were Malta I wouldn't be raiding the Pwn shop looking for Excelsior-addled brains to control my relentless machine of destruction. And piloting the Kronos could be some kind of loyalty reward. There has to be some incentive for that poor shmoe pointing a sap gun at a fully IOd, buffed to the gills 8-man team....

I saw that guy a long time ago at the Black Market. It was pretty funny.

    Some of my favorites:

Quoth the Raven. Don't know what his powersets or costume or bio were, I saw the name in a global channel and thought it was clever.

A friend of mine likes to make characters with silly names. One of my favorites was I Shot Bambi's Mom, an AR/Traps Corruptor.

Not a Rikti Spy. He shows up at mothership raids and Rikti invasions and spreads Rikti propaganda in Broadcast. He's a Rad/Psi Defender I think.

Yes, they are all somewhat silly names, but I see great names that are not silly and suit the character very well all the time. They kind of blend together after a while. The clever silly ones stand out.

  16. They will spawn as EBs if you're solo/on a small team with AVs turned off. Both the EB and AV versions are the same strength as they are in normal missions, afaik.

Villains don't actually get to find that out though. Unless of course some Vigilante goes running through a Malta mission screaming "They're made out of people!" So maybe the Arbiter is genuinely offering to let you pilot a Zeus and leaving out some of the details just to make you go "yeah, cool! Forget this Rogue thing, gimme the giant robot!"

This is a very good idea, but only works if the person who cares about the story can actually read the text, which the OP was complaining about not being allowed to do because someone else had "stolen" it. The AE team did it when I was running with them, to allow everyone to read the "still busy" and "mission complete" dialogue.

I haven't teamed in Praetoria either, aside from running a duo with my husband, and will not do so until I've seen all the content.

The stupid thing is, like I said, that's not even the hard part.

Of course the level 49 AV thing means that everyone who cared already has their MO everything badges and it's like pulling teeth to get a decent team together for those of us who didn't get them that way.

I'm willing to accept a certain curtailing of freedom because it's a persistent MMO and everyone has to live there. I ACKNOWLEDGE that my villains will never be allowed to crash the Moon into the Earth/summon Azathoth/force the nations of the world to submit. I can accept that I should fight the Rikti because I can't rule a world that they'd destroyed. Hardcase (and Arbiter Daos in the Patron arcs) exceed that suspension-of-disbelief. They forcibly remind me that I'm reciting the lines that someone else has written and there's no room for me to put my own spin on things.
I think it's telling that a lot of villainous AE arcs have nothing to do with Arachnos at all. Many of them involve your villain doing their own thing.

As of tonight I'd like to announce that I have a new prime candidate for content that needs to be redone: Reichsman. ***** ***** **** Reichsman.

Just ran the Barracuda SF today with my static team. Couldn't beat him. Had debuffs. Had damage. Had a Brute that could survive it. Didn't have an MM. No SF for you, sorry, you can't cut through that giant sack of HP before it phases and heals back up because nobody chose to saddle the static team with a door-blocking lag-inducing AT. ****. Never mind the whole "Reichsman one-shots everybody" thing, even though we faced him later after he'd powered himself up and he clearly couldn't do that. Or that we're all being played for chumps. Or.....well the Reichsman TFs have been complained about since they were in beta and nothing was done to make them not stupid, instead they were validated with a Master Of badge. Someone find me the devs responsible so I can smack them upside the head with a carp and demand that hour of my life back.

Master Of badges are based on completing the TF with no temp powers and no defeats. There is no "no failed missions" challenge option for TFs, so it can't be required.

The stupid part is, if you can't beat the CWK without dying, what makes you think you can beat Hami? Might as well get the failure out of the way early so you can either restart with a better team or say "screw it, let's finish anyway" and play like idiots the rest of the TF and get it done faster.

When a TF is set up to run in six hours moving at "normal" speed, I can't really fault players for wanting to skip as much of it as possible to cut it down to a manageable two. I'm convinced that this, not the desire to get rewards really, really fast, is the predominant factor in the development of speed runs.
The thing is, the speed run "culture" didn't really become dominant until the introduction of merits and the ITF. Before that, sure there would be stealthing, if you could do it. A stealther wasn't "required" for anything but the Cavern of Transcendence. Now you "need" a stealth+TPer or two or three IOd to the gills melee characters.

    Quote:
This brings me to the second point. I don't think there's anything the devs can do to fix this perception at this point. With a few exceptions, the kind of high-end player who runs a lot of TF's is unlikely, in my experience, to care about the quality of the content. Rather, they care about how fast it can be done (and therefore what the rewards are, since TF rewards are based solely on completion time). I have plenty of acquaintances who won't run the new Positron TF's, despite the fact that they're entertaining, because they "don't give enough merits" and "the old one was better." With that kind of attitude among players, no wonder the devs don't like to reexamine old content.
Those kinds of players don't care about TFs, they care about rewards. Why should TFs care about them? Frankly, who cares how fast those people can get rewards? They still get them faster than everybody else, there is always some means available for them to get more rewards faster than everybody else. If you reduce the efficiency of one method they will find the next most efficient way and do that.

Meanwhile, for players who do care about content, the newer TFs, and even moreso trials, are a unique experience. They are designed with a team in mind, which regular arcs can't be, and that allows the devs to make use of mechanics they can't use anywhere else.

Meh. I made a custom Gunslinger for an AE arc that ended up doing slightly less damage than a Malta Gunslinger. Still gave full XP or near to it with only the Invul passives as a secondary. I can't remember off the top of my head what powers I gave him but I stuck to the less flashy ones, so he probably had both Executioner's Shot and Empty Clips.

Besides, enemy damage can be tweaked to be where the devs want it.

It could be the hats, except we can get those hats too. Unless Malta hand out super extra special hats. It could be all the pouches. They might be full of yellows.

    Ambushes - FFS

I've been running a lot of tips in between running a bit of Preatoria, and I do think the devs are overusing the Ambush feature. It's one thing to have the end boss ambush you once in a while, or have a swarm of guys that can be one-shotted, or have one high-level mission with piles and piles of guys coming after you, but when it's every mission it just gets old very fast.

Although I must add that my Stalker was ambushed by Hardcase today. Mr. Big Bad Demon hunter...too bad for him I'm not a demon. I don't mind being ambushed by him at all. On my Stalker even.

I managed it fairly easily on +0x3 with my Blaster. Got the badge on the second-last spawn. Seers don't seem to have a lot of lethal resistance (thank you Devs).

The Resistance on the other hand....that was the most tedious mission I have ever done in my life. Move two steps. Wait to see if someone unstealths. Move two more steps. Ooops, missed a guy, back off, kite him. Shoot him twice, he stealths. Back off some more. Eating a yellow doesn't help until they're like ten feet away from you, which is waaaay too close for my tastes. It also doesn't help that the entire spawn stealths in sync; at least if they varied it up you could nail them with AoEs. I did make sure to count my kills though, so if the badge starts awarding retroactively I'll have it. If not....I think I'll wait until they let us into Preatoria.

This. I haven't actually done that mission since GR release but I see no reason why it would have to be redone beyond swapping out the old Clockwork for the new ones. The new arcs have nothing to do with it, since the mission isn't part of them.
