You can't pick a standard critter from a custom group as an objective. You have to pick your boss from the Standard group he belongs to, then change his group display name and description to match your custom group boss. And recolor him. It's all a big pain, but probably not a bug, just a limitation of the system.

Multiple hostages on those outdoor city maps with a million places for them to hide. Multiple hostage with different names (so targetcustomnext doesn't work) are even worse.
Multiple blinkies on giant outdoor maps or the cargo ship map. Especially multiple blinkies that don't disappear when you click them (so targetcustomnext keeps targeting blinkies you've already clicked), and the blinkies fade in so they're hard to see.
Multiple lead-outs on big maps.
Any mission where I have to keep an ally alive or the mission will fail. The allies are inevitably squishy and stupid and attach themselves to the tank. Double bonus points when the mission is against Nemesis, in which case the allies are squishy, stupid, and stick to your behind like glue until there is a lieutenant to chase down and kill first. Then they do that, then resume standing right next to you. -
These are all very nice suggestions but I'm about a bar and a half to 33 right now.
Lazarus, that arc with the bird is on the list for the near(ish) future. Everything else will have to wait. I will be going up against space lizard-chicks once I get to that level, and jokes about psi-holes will be made then.
Dalghryn, I'll most likely be playing the Rikti war arcs too. Because there are Rikti, and it's a war, so I have to fight Rikti. I like fighting Rikti.
Venture, you're not going to get me to beat my head off your deliberately overpowered player-killer jerk enemies, no matter how high level I am or how many IOs I slot. I'm allergic to Extreme/Extreme everything. All those other arcs that aren't you being a jerk and trying to kill people, I will take a look at when I get to that level. I think one or two of them I haven't played yet. -
Maybe the DE were considered "too easy" for the end game, and that's why they're barely used. I have no idea why the rock dudes were deemed "hard enough," unless the devs figured tedium = challenge (which judging by some of the older content may very well have been part of the design philosophy back then.)
Has anyone checked the to-hit on the DE in Maria Jenkins' new arc?
And that Malta mission is made of awesome. My DM/SD runs it whenever it comes up. My new self-imposed challenge is to keep Frostfire alive the whole time. I've managed it only once on +1/x6; on x8 he has yet to survive the third wave. -
You're trying to say "Willpower is awesome, it should give more XP" based on player Willpower. The fact is, Willpower is far less awesome when used by critters than when used by a player with half an iota of playing ability. They can't herd us for RotC for one thing. They can't get IOs to buff their defenses to where they can jump into a x8 mob and go make a sandwich.
Futhermore, player WP is only awesome because you get resistance AND defense AND regen. As Lazarus pointed out, when you shut one of those down it's less awesome. With a critter you can pick and choose what powers to give it to make it easiest for you. Giving a critter ALL the Willpower powers would make for a pretty tough critter, sure, but since the XP calculations for custom critters don't really take into account how the powers interact with each other, let alone with other critters from the same group, they can't be worth more XP.
My Invul Brute is pretty tough. So that means Invul should give more XP right? Because it's not like I can make a custom group out of critters with all the Invul powers except Dull Pain, then grab a Psi/Mental Blaster and just tear through them as if they had no secondary. -
Quote:I'm not doing any exemping for this project, because frankly, I don't like doing it. I earned my powers and set bonuses, and I'd like to use them.Heya,
I'd like to plug "The Coldest of Wars" (#299972) as a campy Silver Age-style story. The level range says 40+, but it's all Crey and Freaks (along with some easyish customs), so should be playable even at lower levels. Also, ice cream.
If you don't mind exemping just to 25 (you still have access to your level 30 powers at that point, I think?), my two new post-apocalyptic arcs "Kali's Scythe" (heroic, #445456) and "To Reign in Hell" (villainous, #448234) could definitely use more plays and/or feedback; they are also pretty text-heavy, so I hope they're up your alley! Sadly I was pretty much locked into the 20-25 range for these arcs for enemy group reasons. :/
I'm also sticking to arcs that are actually my level, because 1) level 40 enemies have damage and HP scaled to a level 40, not a 32, and 2) part of what I'm trying to determine with this experiment is just how easy it is to find enough good arcs to level from 1-50 (admittedly, the ally XP nerf skewed that somewhat.) I will definitely keep your arc in mind for when I actually reach that level though. It's on PW's contact tree list anyway, and that's one of the first places I look for arcs to play. -
Aaaaand, I'm back. After taking a hiatus to play with new shinies, Dawnrazor is back in business.
Turns out I hadn't updated this thread for a while before GR release, but I can't find my "arcs I've played" document, and the only ones I remember playing are #337333 "Captain Skylark Shadowfancy and the Tomorrownauts of Today" and #344696 "The Golden Age Secret of the Paragon Society." Both are excellent arcs and you should play them.
For my comeback I chose #68930 "Pandas vs. Rikti." It's a very fun arc, the customs are adorable, definitely recommended. -
I felt the difficulty was fine. The only problems I had were in the final mission because all-tank Crey spawns suck worse than anything has sucked before when you're an AR Blaster. So the only thing I would suggest to make it a bit easier is to maybe cap the arc at 44, so there will be no all-tank spawns at all. It doesn't need to be harder. Not every arc needs an AV.
-
I'm guessing the change was made because the effect lasting 120 seconds after you turn the toggle off was a bug that they never got around to fixing.
-
Ooo, pick me. Arc #431270: Until the End of the World. It's villainous, and your Brute might be a better pick anyway since it includes a custom group with quite a bit of energy damage.
I suggest playing it with bosses turned on, since I tend to assume that setting when writing high-level arcs and script my bosses accordingly. Also, the last mission is best at x3 or higher for moar chaos (as in, the battles don't all end before you see them), but it'll still work at a lower setting. -
Quote:Ravenstorm is Martial Arts/Dark Armor actually, but he does have Dark Regeneration, so I will just blame him. Also, in response to where the healing comes from, I know for a fact that self-healing mastermind pets accumulate healing towards this badge (well, they did when I was playing that Necromancy/FF that got healing badges). Since Ravenstorm is Dark melee/Dark Armor, both of which include self-heals, I expect that those may count based on previous experience.
And I learned something. I thought pets healing me would count. Guess not. -

I nominate:
Hopeless #29262
The Invasion of the Bikini-Clad Samurai Vampiresses from Outer Space #61013
One Million Eyes #71933
The Curse of the Emerald Parakeet #1567
(There are a some more that I can't nominate because the authors already have a Dev's Choice, but they should have two. Breaking the rules and nominating them anyway would be very villainous of me....but a smart villain waits until the right time to strike. I'll get you next time Aeon, NEXT TIME!) -
Quote:No, I don't have a chance to get noticed, and neither do some other people it looks like. As for getting the MA noticed...well I do see a lot of people who don't normally post in this section of the forums posting in this thread. A dev post will do that. So, um, why is this the first dev post promoting player-created content in...how long? Is it that hard for a dev to post in, say, the old Player Awards thread? Or PWs contact tree thread? You know, draw some attention to what authors are doing in AE on their own initiative, and maybe help out players who would use AE if the search feature wasn't such a pain? We can post links to these threads until we're blue in the face, nobody cares, but when a dev does it everyone follows. Just look at all the posts from people who don't normally post in the AE forum in this very thread.I can't believe this ****.
You guys (you know who you are) whine and complain about being ignored for months on end and then when you have a chance to get noticed, and most of all to have the MA get noticed by the rest of the players, you still don't like it.
Quote:I'm gonna enter this sucker and I'm gonna win because all my competition will be complaining and whining.
Quote:Puts it as well as I could. Blasting the first developer interaction we've seen here in quite a while is counterproductive. Not to mention insulting. It assumes the developers have somehow remained totally unaware of everything everybody on this forum wants fixed.
By the way, now that there is a dev choice suggestion thread again there are a few arcs I'd like to nominate...but can't because the authors already have a dev's choice awarded from one of these contests. So your only chance at getting recognized in a venue for player creativity and expression is to write the story someone else tells you to? Now that's insulting. -
Quote:I didn't do the Valentine's day missions, I don't think. This character mostly solos anyway, and when I'm on a team I'm too busy killing things to use temp powers on people, so even if I had it I wouldn't have been using it.There was a power you could get as part of the Valentine's festivities that allowed you to heal others, if I remember correctly.
EDIT: And other power that gave you confuse, I think.
No.
Quote:have you ever rescued Lady Grey in her Vanguard Arc, she has a heal and uses it a lot once the ambush happens.
If it is that would definitely explain it. -
Unfortunately when the only developer promotion AE has gotten over the past many months is in the form of these contests, people who can't enter (because their slots are full or they live in an ineligible area) or who aren't interested in writing arcs to a deadline and within the parameters decided upon by someone else are left out in the cold.
-
I've had this problem with recolored critters in general. The only workaround I've found is to write all the critter's text first, then recolor him, then immediately close the objective window so I don't have to look at him anymore.
-
Quote:Base difficulty is +0/x0. If you're saying the game isn't too easy at that difficulty, and you're not playing a non-solo friendly powerset, then maybe you need to go home and rethink your playstyle.Correction: A handfull of people only play outlier power set combos, heavily gear out with IOs and softcap their defenses then complain the game is too easy.
News flash, just because you can play on +4/x8 doesn't mean you have to.
Quote:The result is always the same. We get Demonic Spiders. Seriously, look at the page's entry for CoH. It reads like a grim testament to the devs efforts to add 'challenge'. I always roll my eyes when Positron says there's more challenging content on the way, because the translation is 'a truckload of annoyance and frustration'.
War Walkers however, are pure distilled awesome in a really big can. I can't wait until they're added to AE so I can fill a map with them and Zeus Titans, sic them on each other, and giggle maniacally. -
Well I'm not going to enter since I can't honestly slap a "Final" tag on anything that I've only had a few weeks to work on and refine, but at least this will hopefully result in some Vigilante arcs that aren't blatant badge farms so I can get my badge.
Also, what Lazarus said. AE is supposed to be a venue for player-created content. So player-created now means "you're rewarded for writing what the devs want you to write?" Apparently so, since when was the last time we got a DC that wasn't a winner or runner-up from one of these contests? -
Master Illusionists have powers with no positional flag, so your toggles, they do nothing. Then they summon Illusionists with more of the same powers. Then they phase so you can't use the "kill them fast" approach. They're hard on everyone, don't feel bad.

Quote:I'd go one further and make them temporary. Like 30 days or so. That way it's an ongoing inf sink instead of a one-time thing. Anything in that slot at the end of the 30 days goes into "storage" mode like happened with the market merge. You don't get your listing fee back.Anything you could do with 20 market slots you could do with two level 10 characters plus gleemail. It's more CONVENIENT to do it with 20 market slots on your field crafter or whomever.
I'd charge on an increasing scale, probably quadratic. 1 M for your first slot, (1+2)= 3M for your second, 6M for your third, 10M for your fourth... 55M for your tenth.
(Shout out to all my Ars Magica peeps!)
Temp powers: make more of them and make them easier to get. Allow people to get the Siren's temp powers without going to Siren's (at an inflated cost of course), the empowerment buffs without having an SG base (at an inflated cost). Make the day job powers purchaseable with inf. Add in some new convenience temp powers. Make them fairly cheap, so people will use them a lot, and make them cost nothing but inf and be easy to access, so lazy people will use them too.
Improve the inf>prestige conversion ratio. -
Because it's all about the XP. Duh. Must get to 50 as fast as possible and all that.
No, seriously. If you tell your average player that a critter only awards half inf, most of them won't care (many of them will then complain that stuff costs too much, but anyway...). Tell them it awards half tickets....what are these tickets for? (By the way, stuff costs too much and they never get anything good to sell.) But half XP? Oh noez! Must crank up difficulty! -
Quote:Yes. Inf too.I didn't see this anywhere, so forgive me if I missed it. My search-fu is weak.
If a critter's powers limit its xp to, say, 70%, will its ticket drop rate also be similarly reduced?
Not sure about prestige. I think it is/was weird the way it is/was handled. -
Quote:Trying to think of missions that have healing allies, and I can't think of any...I have rescued Ravenstorm from Hollow Point's Council quite a few times but he only heals himself, so not sure if that would count. I will have to check next time I get that one.Combative healing allies in missions that you escort out of the mission can sometimes count for credit as well.
Nope, I haven't been confusing anyone.
