Quote:I agree with Venture.Yes, and I'd be willing to delay the entire incarnate system if that would let them uncouple it from the terribad Well/Praetoria storyline.
[edit] But only if the replacement is actually good, and actually written well, and doesn't involve Marcus Cole in any of his incarnations except maybe Statesman in a minor role. -
Quote:My powers look and feel plenty powerful to me. It's the enemies who look weak and puny.I said it once, i'll say it again. I think it's about the effects of our powers. They need to look and feel more powerful.
Except the giant robots, those look and feel powerful. If Tyrant wants to be taken seriously as a threat, he needs more giant robots. -
Quote:The Well is another reason I do not want a Praetorian pet. Gameplay improvements should never be so inextricably linked to a story element, because then when you don't like the story you can't ignore it without skipping the power. In this case, the power in question has a level shift that makes it less skippable than others. If Tyrant is using the Well to empower his forces, and you get the essence of defeated enemies via the Well, then maybe you can only get the essences of enemies who were linked to the Well?
Using a badly written story to justify constantly reminding people of another badly written story when they just want a gameplay improvement won't convince anyone of anything. -
Yep, totally. If they go in as is they will remain that way pretty much forever.

Quote:As has AE, from the looks of things. And yes, bases and PvP, even though I don't really touch either any more, have been embarrassingly abandoned.
Quote:Time's Echos look a lot like Reflections in the Shadow Shard and I wonder if they are related in anyway.
Quote:So hopfully I get to vanquish non praetorian foes in the future and summon them to do stuff for me. I really hope my Lore pet doesn't have to use that aura the Reflection do. -
Quote:Well yeah, since Primal Earth is the game's setting and all. There have been more issues dedicated to Primal Earth entities than Praetorian Earth ones.
No matter what they do with Praetoria it will always feel like a second-fiddle tacked-on alternate universe to a lot of people. Everything there is only important as it relates to us. When I meet a new NPC the first thing I ask is "so which Primal Earth character is this an analogue of?" and I'm not the only one. So much emphasis has been placed on Praetoria's "mirror" nature that no matter what the devs do it will always be "evil goatee universe" in a lot of people's minds.
So yeah, the reason I have a problem with this is that I consider Praetorians to be an "entity" and a "storyline" spread out over more zones than most. It's not a game world in and of itself any more than the RWZ is a game world. -
Quote:But are they working with him or just taking advantage of the chaos to pursue their own ends? The Apex TF - the Rikti and Hydra in the sewers are massing to help with the attack on Kings Row.
Oh, you know who else appears in Incarnate content? Malta. Come on, you have to admit keeping Malta as pets would be poetic justice.
I don't like the idea of the pets being "essences" pulled from the Well either. Ditch that and make them an actual ally, or a defeated enemy that has been convinced, coerced, bribed or intimidated into working for you. Again, this would make it a pet that we earned, not one granted by the Well. Of course I want to name them. -
Quote:Becoming incredibly powerful does not necessitate becoming a god. Superman is not a god. The Green Lantern Corps are not gods. Doctor Doom is not a god.1. How do you become a god without becoming a Cosmic Tank-Mage?
Turning everyone into gods homogenizes the game. It also assumes that every character wants to be a god and that every player wants to play a god.
Quote:2. Is "I hate Lore pets!" going to be the new tantrum that derails all Incarnate discussions like "I must have a solo-only path!" -
Quote:CoV doesn't have simu-click missions either.Praetorian Earth content does not have any running bosses, not a single one that I can recall, and I've done all the missions there. I'll be honest here - there is not a single mission type more frustratingly annoying to me than running bosses, with the possible exception of simu-click missions... But wait a minute, Praetoria doesn't have any of those, either! What else doesn't it have? Hmm... I don't recall any breakable objective guarding missions, either, and if there are any, they aren't many.
While technically there isn't much "keep alive or fail" going on in Praetoria or tip missions (General Z proves the old adage about military intelligence), those computers and the combatant NPCs that you talk to can be attacked in many cases. If they die, it either triggers the next objective (and an ambush, or three, usually) or in the case of Maelstrom breaks the mission.
Quote:LOL! I know you're ignoring me, but great post Sam. Running bosses do suck. I had forgotten about those as well. Isn't there a CoV mission where Crimson (an Elite Boss/AV) runs away from you? I seem to remember, logging off immediately after that mission in disgust. We need an "evil laugh" smiley.
Quote:Thanks for bringing this up, Sam, as it reminds me of another mission from back in the day which I absolutely hated - Stop The Ritual from Skipper LeGrange. Trying to prevent those darned Fir Bolg from sprinting through that mystic gate. If there was a mission that I would swear to never do again, that one would be it.
Quote:Granted, I've not tried out the BAF. But the thought that it might be anything like the Fir Bolg mission gives me the shivers.
Quote:Some of those running bosses seems to have superspeed slotted for "OMFG, WTH, I can't move that fast with MY travel power" in all 6 slots.
Quote:Way back in Issue 7 (I think) there was a bug that meant that any power with knockback in it caused those 'prevent the boss from escaping' missions to instantly fail. That bug was NOT fun on a SS/Inv Brute, or a Bots/Traps MM, until I figured out which upgrades not to apply to which pets to make them not do any knockback... -
Quote:Well everyone I play with hates Praetoria, so there. See, I can claim to speak for a larger group too!Luckily the forums don't represent the playerbase. For everyone I play with, we're happy with the route the game is being taken, and I for one am not sick of praetoria :P I don't think the devs are losing touch with anything. It's just that time of the year for doom.
Aside from Noble Savage, we've been hearing more from marketing than from the people who actually work on the game for some time. We can't know how much they read the forums, but they sure aren't talking on them. -
Oh hey, Lazarus is still alive!
I actually do care about the end-game a lot, that is why I have been doing /headdesk quite a bit in the last two days.
Now....raise your hand if you're not surprised about the complete and utter lack of AE improvements or additions in the i20 overview. -
Quote:Like we got other options for PPP pets for people who didn't like the blatant Arachnos concept?Maybe when we finally beat Cole and disconnect him from the Well, the Lore pets will have other options. Right now the Well* doesn't have time to whip up new Essence Pets.
If there was only time to create one pet per tree, it should have been generic. If they want non-generic pets but are concerned about balance, they can create one pet per tree with different skins. Someone in another thread suggested using something similar to the Halloween costume tech. It's quick and dirty but it's better than everybody having a Praetorian following them around. -
Seconded, preferably arcs that can be played at 50 so we can actually use our newfound Incarnate abilities.
And um, while they're at it maybe they can get around to adding in the new i18 enemies that aren't Praetorian. Super Stunners, Chi Masters, Girlfriends from Hell, high-level DE....and, uh, I guess the War Works and IDF too. -
Quote:I doubt it.But the Question is on Judgement. Will these powers have an "alternate animation" to work with weapons. Much like Johnny Blaze in the '90's had that shotgun imbued with Hellfire.
Although it would be awesome. It would certainly make them easier to explain away on weapon-using characters. And, um, awesome. KNEEL BEFORE THE WRATH OF MY VOID RIFLE PUNY HEROES!!! -
Quote:Magneto, Doctor Doom, Jean Grey, Doctor Strange. Squishies.I guess when certain level of power is achieved, Homogeneity just sorta creeps in.
Look at the Justice League. Superman, Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter, Captain Marvel (in the past)... All of them flying bricks - on the same team! Yes, they have some tricks that set them apart (especially Manhunter) but they're all essentially built from the same template. Same with Sentry, Gladiator, Hyperion, etc. from Marvel.
Quote:So, my main is currently an SS/WP Brute. Wow...how original! Well, she is to me. It's an iconic powerset I wanted and wasn't going to not take just because so many others take it as well. But my background is my own, and I'd be willing to bet real money that no other Brute has exactly the same story.
These coming Incarnate Powers. Everyone of them I'll work in to my background, even Lore. Not worried that I'll be superficially powered like many others - That's already the case. My story is what differentiates me anyhow... -
Quote:The Lore slot provides a level shift on Incarnate Trials. The Lore slot seems to be the one most people want to skip. So in order to not be one level behind in future Incarnate Trials that will likely be designed for people who do have the level shift, you must slot up Lore. The one thing I feel that is lacking is opportunity cost with respect to the slots themselves. The great thing about Patron and Epic pools is that if you don't feel like they fit you, you can just take more Primary/Secondary/Pool powers instead. With Incarnates, if you've got a character for whom you don't want one of the 4 elemental powers in Judgement, you have to just skip it. In the short run, that means filling other slots faster, which is great, and encourages diversity! In the long run, it means having one less power when all of your teammates have it, and they might be relying on you to have it.
Call me paranoid but it's almost like they did this on purpose.... -
Quote:No. She obviously still thinks villains are two-dimensional mustache-twirling EEEEVILS and that's all players want out of them.Wait... you're bringing up the idea of a separate Incarnate path for villains? You?
Is this the Praetorian Golden Girl talking or has your account been hacked?
Which explains a lot actually. It's the only way anyone could consider Tyrant a good villain. -
Quote:The RWZ revamp also included soloable story arcs and repeating missions, a task force, a raid, and zone invasions. The Rikti were kind enough to allow people with a wide variety of playstyles an opportunity to kick their butts.I'm sure if I looked I can find other Patch Notes like Issue 13. The issue with the RWZ revamp (I believe Weapon Customization and Power prolif was also in that issue) comes to mind.
Ok, forced repetition for the sake of repetition then. -
....to create new arcs, knowing that any day now any existing canon you incorporate could be contradicted by some head-asplodingly lame new canon?
I ask this because the one arc I really want to write involves the Shadow Shard. But now, with the Echoes in Ramiel's arc and the Well-granted Lore pets sharing the Shadow Shard reflection aura....well you can see why I fear for my beloved Shadow Shard. I despise the Well of the Furies storyline and don't want to waste my time writing anything to do with it. At the same time, I'm writing for this game, so I want to set my stories firmly in the game world. I've already had the "canon-related" tag on one arc pretty much invalidated by the devs' recent treatment of Malta. The one I was working on would be even worse.
Of course if you like to write outside of the game world it's totally irrelevant. Lucky you.
This on top of the fact that very few people are likely to play it just leaves me completely unmotivated. Although I did get a play and a very nice comment on one of my arcs today, that was a pleasant surprise and a strong reminder to go back and do those tweaks I've been putting off. -

Quote:Heh heh, convenient, isn't it?My main characters are effectively the same person copied through [plot device* goes here]. Even the "evil" one isn't truly evil, but is very self-serving and just really hates the "good" one.
Anyway, did they confirm that i20's SF will require you to be a villain? Couldn't you just go Vigilante to earn it, like with all the other SF badges so far? The fall, and consequently the road back, is much shorter that way.... -
I don't mind badges that might require multiple attempts. I like the MoApex and Tin Mage badges. I do mind badges that require you to succeed...then once you've succeeded do it again and again and again. The ones for running a WST after you've already earned the reward are particularly grating because they absolutely require you to do a given thing at least twice in one week. I would not at all object to a badge that required running 50 WSTs if the first time you ran it counted. These badges are saying "We want you to grind this content." For a hardcore badger who likes having badges to work on it might be ok, but for a more casual badger it can make badging less fun.
-
I do have a problem with badges that require repeating the same thing over and over and over, when it was stated that going forward badges would be moving away from this philosophy. If we're going back to it, can I have my AE badges back please?
-
Which incidentally they left hanging for years, even though at one point bases were bugged to not allow team members to enter for quite some time, essentially making this a coalition-only SF. I suspect the change was only made to make the SF accessible to vigilantes.

Quote:Hate to burst your optimistic bubble, but read the i20 overview. It's linked. Yes, it is an indescribably awful idea.Going to give the devs a pass on what we've seen of Lore so far. There's no way they could be so incredibly dimwitted as to force Praetorian pets onto Primals headed to incarnate-dom, so I have to believe those are placeholders at the moment. Getting incarnate powers from The Well is fine (and easy enough to ignore if you want to), but tying The Well and incarnate powers to Praetoria is an awful idea.
