Quote:Scary isn't it?I read this, I notice Venture is sounding incredibly sensible, and then I begin to weep.
Quote:In this case, though, I do the two new trials once, maybe twice, and I'm already done with the new content. Any repetition being done is being done for the sake of the rewards.
I completed the BaF trial with my Scrapper. I'm done with that content. Maybe a few months down the road I'll revisit it because my friends want to run a BaF and they could use my Scrapper's help, but repeating it with the same character for the sake of repetition? My friends formed a BaF. I brought Eva Destruction, who hadn't completed the content. We succeeded, and now I have completed this content with this character. I think I'm at around 15% of my Judgement slot unlocked.
Quote:Yeah, strange bedfellows indeed. There's something certainly off kilter when I can agree with Samuel Tow, Eva Destruction, and Venture at the same time.
Ok, so you legitimately like the mechanics of the trials. Ok. It doesn't answer the question though: Do you like them enough that you would run them over and over if they gave the same rewards as the LGTF gives right now? -
How so? They could just as easily have you get those next levels by repeating the same two trials. There is nothing that intrinsically ties leveling up to running a variety of content, otherwise nobody would have ever reached 50 without ever having fought anything but the Dreck mission or Fire Ambush Farm #234298.

Yeah, much as I hate speed runs I have little sympathy for people who join something that is advertised as a speed run then complain that it's a speed run.

I don't need to justify Alpha any more than I need to justify my IOs.
Judgement I'm either taking something that matches one of my powersets, or if nothing does I'll probably take Pyronic and pass it off as an incendiary grenade of some kind or Ionic for techy characters.
Interface bugs me because it can't be colored. How is my dark melee setting people on fire again? And why is the intense graphic necessary?
Destiny I'm not sure about yet. Again, why the intensive graphics?
I'm not taking Lore until we get some pets I actually like, so I have no need to justify it. -
Quote:It would be better to unlock with an arc than a TF, like every other TF that requires unlocking. Now, this ties into the Chimera/Mom storyline, it gives us some themes to play with in the sympathizer faction, it gives Primals a reason to be engaged with the BAF (which they currently do not have, ham-bluehandedness notwithstanding) and it gives a reason why taking out the BAF is a job for a team of supers and not an air strike.
Tell me with a straight face this wouldn't have been better than what we have.
Two birds, one rock and all. -
"I think they're fun" is a valid opinion.
"I like shinies" is also a valid opinion.
"They're fun because they give awesome shinies" is based on an erroneous assumption that the shinies are intrinsically tied to the trials. They are not. They are only tied to the trials because the devs chose to tie them to the trials. -
Quote:And I can get the dishes done in ten minutes, but the ITF takes an hour. Guess which one I actually want to do.2. The rewards are fast and you can easily find yourself done with the *oh, the agony* Trial grind in a week or less (getting you back to the solo play that you desire above all else). I've managed to upgrade my Interface to T2, slot my T1 Destiny, as well as unlock, slot and upgrade my Judgment to T2 in a span of 4 hours.
Quote:There is nothing in the game (outside of the 1-10 game) that would allow me to gain anything significant, as quickly, in solo play as opposed to team play. Team hunting for Purples isn't even this quick, Respec Trials take just as long (longer if you're going for a comparable number of 'Dings') and many regular TFs take twice as long for less reward... I can even give the middle finger to the Market with this setup.

Quote:Venture's always a jerk, what's your excuse.I already explained my reasoning up above. Mostly I was responding to Venture who remains unreasonable, and kind of a jerk about it.
And no, he's not being unreasonable here. Other people have already pointed out in multiple places that it's the thread costs that are unreasonable.
"You don't need tier 4s" is not a valid argument. Technically you don't "need" to do anything in this game, but anything that is possible to get should be possible within the expected lifetime of this game, without being limited to one specific playstyle. -
-
Quote:Five times as long FOR WHOM?For the most part getting a common Judgement is about 5 times as long. So by your classification it's reasonable.
Oh wait, you're not reasonable? That's right....
30 threads to unlock.
60 threads to craft.
Unless you want to be horribly inefficient with your shards that's 9 days minimum. This is assuming you can earn 10 shards a day....now I have several characters who can play on x8, but in order to earn 10 shards a day on any of them I would have to play in a way that I can only call farming (using the definition of farming: running something over and over to maximize rewards.) or play one character for several hours a day. That's your solo option. How is this "five times as long?" If you can't play on x8 it would take a timeframe I don't even want to think about. -

Quote:Fighting Trolls or Outcasts isn't incredibly stupid. Making a deal with the devil is. I do not write my characters as incredibly stupid.Giving your character access to a lore-based source of power doesn't rewrite your concept any more than having them fight Trolls or Outcasts. You provide the character, CoH provides the world, and the Well and Incarnate system are part of the world.
Quote:As with the other aspects of the endgame system, the real problem here is that the system is meant for people who love mechanics, not for people who love concepts. This is what so many people continue to fail to grasp. The endgame isn't meant for people who love the traditional strengths of CoH. It's meant for people who want the feeling of "beating" something and like the sensation of getting rewards. Put another way, it's meant for people to whom this is "a game" in the sense of "a game of chess" or "a game of football," not "a game of let's pretend." (Personally, I don't think we should be fostering that kind of attitude, but that isn't my decision to make. This is an MMO, not a book written by me.) Any satisfaction a "concept" player gets out of this system is secondary to the mechanical benefits, by design.
On the plus side, Pyronic judgement does have an animation that looks a lot like throwing something. And it looks pretty freaking sweet. Incendiary grenades it is! -

Quote:Hail to the king baby. Hail to the king. You know what I want to see? A Clockwork King vs. Metronome (in a War Walker body, of course) throwdown. I just see the Clockwork King lifting up the shattered hulk of Metronome's body and going, "Hail to the King."
Quote:Because this isn't comics without giant radioactive bugs and monkeys. And robots. -

Quote:Ah, I did not know that. And yet, the timer remains. The wolves change actually predates another change made to them, the mission was made timed before the wolves were given a ranged attack, which meant any hovering blaster could clear the map out with zero threat.
Quote:The Dreck mission I'm assuming was back when rather than just tweaking the XP gain on mobs as they do now, they decided just slapping a timer on it was a more viable solution. -
Quote:They get better at it, as evidenced by the destroyed Mega Mechs on the ruined Atlas Park map. The answer is obvious: they need to access a future where they got better at making giant robots and bring that knowledge back to the present. The Council suck at making giant robots. The Hess TF is a lot of fun, far be it from me to suggest it needs to be updated, but the giant robot doesn't do anything. It would be 1000 times more awesome if we had a giant robot striding across Striga Isles.
Quote:The 5th Column suck at making giant robots too. Again, I'd probably be crucified for suggesting that anything about the ITF needs to be changed (other than reducing lag, which I believe they've already done as much as they can in that department). But here you have two more giant robots that do nothing. Boring!
Quote:I'm told that some people call Crimson's "World Wide Red" arc "The Malta Task Force". Why isn't there a real Malta task force? Malta and Knives of Artemis, together in a Task Force! Oh sure, some people would complain, but I wanna see it! With new giant robots! Maybe the KoA need their own robot, you know?
Quote:Why hasn't Nemesis built a giant robot yet? I realize it would be all steampunky, and the Clockwork King seems to have that covered. But Nemesis knows the value of rust removal. His robot would be all shiny and new!
Quote:And I'm sure the Freakshow could come up with some sort of weird giant monstrosity too.
The Sky Raiders have a giant fortress covered in turrets, which my husband has lovingly dubbed "the Death Star." I would like to be able to rename it Fortress Maximus. That is all. -
Quote:The Dreck mission was exploitative? Wolves were exploitative? Katie Hannon was....well ok, that one was exploited, but I believe the "fail the Mary mission" loophole was closed before merits were introduced, wasn't it?actually the Devs never looked down on farming, they looked down on Exploitative farming, as in earning rewards much, much faster than you should be, which was the problem with the AE, a PI Demon farm couldn't get you 1-50 in about six hours but a Rikti Comm officer farm could.

Quote:I said I can't go make a sandwich, not that he can't. He's a Tank and I'm a Scrapper, so he should be tougher than me. I'd also be willing to bet I kill a whole heck of a lot faster than he does. Hence my comment: if you're happy with your survivability pick Incarnate abilities that help you kill faster. You haven't seen Dechs' tank in action, have you?
In most mob types he CAN jump in and go make a sandwich. And come back to find that his Death Shroud has killed the whole spawn while he is untouched.
Besides, I did see Dechs' "Dark Armor sucks" video, and distinctly recall Dark Regeneration being used. Can't do that while making a sandwich. Can't jump into a mob of anything with significant defense debuffs and go make a sandwich either, since Dark Armor is vulnerable to cascading defense failure on an epic scale. -
-
Quote:Then use Incarnate stuff to trick yourself out so you can kill them faster?So... two issues ago?*
*I mean this from a strictly personal timeline sense. My dark tank was doing this two issues ago, but could have theoretically done it with the introduction of invention sets.
I run my Scrapper on +4x8 too, but I am still at a decent risk of dying. Until I can jump into a mob and go make a sandwich, I'm not going to complain.
