Nice try, but get with the times, man. These days 1) nearly everything is co-op, and 2) every group of meddling do-gooders includes a few trigger-happy Vigilantes.

Ew, I hope not. Rularuu is cool. The Well is stupid.

    Quote:
Now why that would be, I am unsure... it could be anything from the way Rularuu was imprisoned, to some odd eccentricity of how time flows (or doesn't) in the Shard... but I should think they could be related. (And in fact, SHOULD be from a game mechanics perspective. One should only use unique effects like that for things that use the same concept/idea. It would be like if Fire Blast was used by an enemy group and did Cold Dmg instead... it should look different to describe a different effect.)
That would mean the echoes and the reflections are the essences of defeated enemies drawn from the Well, since the Lore pets use the same visual and their description clearly states that's what they are.

I don't think they have to be from the same source at all. I have an Invul who is tech origin and wears power armor. You have an Invul who is a mutant. Same result, different source. Of course making them the same would give the devs an excuse to tie Rularuu to the puddle of annoyance, which would diminish his coolness, and then he'll probably turn out to be another alternate Marcus Cole, so I fully expect them to do it, but that doesn't mean I think it's the only option.

Do we actually know what the Dream Doctor's powers are? We do know he was able to trap Rularuu in the Shadow Shard, although he needed the Midnighters' help, and it's established that you can use magic to transverse dimensions....and that's the beauty of magic. Mechanically, magic origin characters are limited as much as the rest of us, but storywise, it can do anything.

Despite the facepalm worthy moments we’ve had with the plot so far (I really, really hate having my character written for me), I’m looking forward to seeing it resolved, even if it does mean trusting Tesseract given that she’s *MMmmmmppph!!!* (Sounds of hand clamped over mouth and struggling)
    So she's Dominatrix?
  3. If you're creating them just for yourself and don't plan to advertise, chances are nobody will even find them, let alone play and one-star them for not being a farm. If you write a description that doesn't contain the words "fire" "ambush" or "farm" or give instructions on the best way to farm your mission, it's a good bet that even if a farmer does find your arc, they won't play it.

Arc slots are only locked (in theory) if an arc is actually reported as a farm. A 1-star rating can mean anything from "this is a bad arc" to "this is the exact opposite of what I was looking for" to "I'm just being a jerk today and 1-starring random arcs."

It would be nice to have a "no powers" room and a "powers" room, preferably with target dummies so you can see how your attacks look in the real world and allied target dummies so you can see how your buffs look.

Yes yes YES to better lighting.
  6. Yeah, it's be great fun, with everybody crowding around Ms Liberty for half an hour while they play with their costume, everybody spamming their newly customized powers, everybody spamming their old customized powers just because that's what people do in any place where players congregate....bad change.

I love that they added actual tailors to the starter zones though. The jog to the RWZ or Cap is easy, true, but new players won't know to go there.

Sure, it's character hijacking, but it's also something that can be changed now that I know the dangers. It's like the authors telling me "THIS is what could happen if you're not careful!" to which I can reply "OK, then I will be careful and it won't happen."
Alternate reality versions of you clearly follow the game's established rules regarding alternate reality versions of people; they are as similar to or different from the original as the plot demands. They're no more "you" than Neuron is Synapse. That doesn't make it good storytelling, but at least it's consistent.

Future you on the other hand...tell me, would you buy future Fusionette as the letter writer? Would you buy future Mako? There's a difference between character development due to unknown circumstances and a total personality rewrite. What about stupid characters? Or nihilistic villains?

Requiem is also the only person in the game who has access to time travel by unexplained means. All other time travellers give us a reason for why they're travelling and show us what they travel by. Holsten uses a machine, Ubelmann uses a machine, Ouroboros use crystals of ice and flame and so on. So how does Requiem travel? WHY does he travel?
If I was writing the story, I'd have him just rebuild Ubelmann's time machine. It would make sense and wouldn't require any convoluted plot contrivances. As for the time cancer, the Council's resident mad biologist was one of Requiem's original recruits; what's to stop Requiem from recruiting him back, and having him come up with a cure? Or his Nictus half could protect him. Or Dirge of Entropy is really calling the shots, and doesn't care if his host bites it.

I'm still incredibly disappointed that the opportunity to expand the Path of the Dark storyline with Cimerora was wasted in favor of some Origin of Power/alternate Statesman/time-**** crap.

    Quote:
In the original 5th Column Ubelmann the Unknown, Requiem sells Ubelmann out not to spite his boss (because he doesn't have a boss), but rather because if the Nazi won WW2, there'd be no place for his 5th Column and he wouldn't have the power he does. We've seen that he's a manipulative *******, we've seen he's a shrewd leader, we've seen he's capable of orchestrating colossal events using time travel and we know he has an agenda. He's a good candidate.
I do like the idea of Requiem being the letter writer. It was my original guess, actually, because the first thing I thought of when we started getting the letters was the souvenir from the Ubelmann the Unknown arc.
  8. Just another thought to anyone else having problems with framerate in the editor: how good is your machine? I believe Zamuel has mentioned using a lower-end machine and I'm playing on a relic from a bygone era when men were men and women had spiral perms, and while I have seen sporadic complaints about editor lag it hasn't reached the epic proportions I would expect if everyone was experiencing it as badly as I do.

Note that I did not have framerate issues at all for the first year or so after AE release, and only had them in busy zones until a few months ago. It's not just my crappy computer to blame. They did something.

There is also the one from the villain morality mission who hung out with Frostfire, drank from the Well, became a god, and destroyed everything. I don't blame you for forgetting that one. Not only is it massive character hijacking just to show off the fancy new doppelganger options, the whole mission is buggy and terribly designed and doesn't even make any sense unless you ignore about 90% of what's going on.

Note that I fully expect the letter writer to be future me. The devs seem to love writing our characters for us lately.

Or why not Ubelmann the Unknown?
Because he's dying from time cancer. In my older characters' personal storylines, he's dead by now. I'd totally buy Requiem though. How did Requiem get to Cimerora anyway?
  10. It's gotten worse. There was a time when it only happened to me in Peregrine Island or Talos during peak hours. Now it happens in KR at 3 am.

I'm trying to remember exactly when this became a consistent problem....and I think I may have first noticed it when trying to search my arcs for "profanity." It possibly could be related to that ***** ***** ****** filter? Of course I wouldn't put it past them to break two things at the same time; this is AE after all. I also wouldn't hold my breath waiting for a fix.

I've done it the hard way and actually Sprinted dozens of lvl 1 alts from both Red and Blue sides starter points to the RWZ. Vanguard portals have made that much simpler.
Lowbie friendly AE missions appeal to vets more than new players. New players don't need them. They still have developer-created content to experience. The vets who have already done said content a million times can, like you said, easily reach Kings Row or Port Oakes and use the AE there. It's certainly a lot easier than finding an actual lowbie-friendly arc in the morass of 1-54 custom group arcs with Extreme Archvillain warnings.

That's why their regeneration is so stupid-high - enemy regeneration was to CoV what ambushes are to Going Rogue. He spoke about having to nerf their powers significantly for reasons OTHER than this not being fare, but also brought up the Battalion as an enemy group which, if it were ever put in the game, WOULD be unsoloable.

Of course, that's Castle being Castle - he loved making enemies who are stronger than us by a fair margin. That's also the old era of Jack Emmert trying his best to kneecap solo players and force them to team.
That's also the old era when "unsoloable" didn't translate to "I double triple dog dare you" to some players.

I think it's pretty strongly implied that Nemesis was responsible for the Superdyne experiments in the '80s, which led to breaking the dimensional barrier (sort of), which allowed casual extradimensional travel, which has caused us nothing but trouble.
  14. If you have to repeat a piece of content until your eyes bleed, might as well do the one that you can run on autopilot while watching Simpsons reruns.

I find on Champion Lambda is often run before BAF, because the smaller sized league is easier to form up. When you're done, most people will stick around for BAF, so you only need to grab a few more people.

Keyes is less forgiving than the other two, so it's run less often.

I think it's still very likely. The more recent letters being tossed around are kind of like the Smoking Man showing up at the end of a Weird Occurrence of the Week X-Files episode and saying something deliberately cryptic, just to remind the viewer that there's an overarching plot line and what they just saw may or may not be relevant to it, but don't worry, we'll get back to the big plot next week.

I think his name is Plot Device and his true motive is to inspire repeated forum threads regarding his identity and motives.
  16. Whether tickets drop or not is random, but the ticket rewards from individual enemies are dependent on their XP/inf rewards. Critters that don't award full XP, whether they're custom critters or a standard group like high-level Family, won't award as many tickets. On the other hand, enemies that are higher-con will award more tickets.

  18. I'm rerolling my very first Scrapper (that lived past level 10) from MA/Regen to MA/SD. I just can't like /regen anymore. I go splat too much, and one of the things I liked about that character was all the neat little "extras" she had, such as Hover and the Weapon Mastery APP, which have slowly been whittled away over the years in a futile attempt to not go splat so much. I don't care how awesome Street Justice is though, MA still looks freaking sweet to me.

So I'm taking advantage of my first free server transfer to move her to the VIP server just so I have a character on the VIP server (where incidentally my name will not likely be taken) and reroll.

All characters who have run any of the Crey arcs should know this. By the time you've finished Janet Kellum's arc, you know the corruption goes all the way to the top....and from that character's point of view, everyone else knows this too, or at least suspects. And yet you're supposed to sit back and let the innocent and ignorant stick their heads in something designed by a mad scientist (which you also know, if you've done the STF) and distributed by....a corporation that from your viewpoint doesn't officially exist anymore, at least not in Paragon. That's not very heroic, now is it?

That's what happens when you keep pulling plot elements out of your behind.

Nothing. You will get lots of levels really fast so you'll be ready when it's time to stick your head in an energy source that can't decide if it's sentient or not and can't decide if it's insane or just acting out of self-preservation and is probably doing the cosmic force equivalent of Curly spinning around on the floor going "wubwubwubwubwub."

No. One ***-pull after another. One story that railroads the player character after another. Even CoV gives the player character better motivation to continue than the Incarnate storyline. The lore is secondary to gameplay and it is very glaringly obvious. It's at the point where I'm wondering how many story elements are being dictated by marketing, and that's a very bad sign.
