Yeah, you don't really get to use the "RMT is bad cause it funds sweatshops" argument unless every single thing you own is made in a country with reasonable and enforced labor laws. This means you're either rich or naked. If those sweatshop workers or Chinese prisoners weren't farming gold, they'd be doing some other sweatshop work, probably equally illegal and more detrimental to their health.
  2. If I were truly pessimistic I'd predict they would include Dominatrix, Diabolique, and the Praetorian version of Lt. Sefu Tendaji. All AVs, and they don't scale down.

    energy ae farm?

lrn2search, seriously, there's about a million of them.
  4. Regen buffs do not expire when the buffing critter dies. They expire when the duration expires. This makes them annoying. Having him spawn with healers will work, although if you set the healers as an ambush they might not use targeted heals on him, since he's not a member of their "group." He will be healed by their AoE heals though.

Having allies stop the boss's regen won't work, due to the Designated Helper system. Only one ally will use debuffs.

Basically, forget about trying to make an AE encounter anything like a trial. You can't do fancy gimmicks, you can't control where stuff spawns. The more complicated the fight, the greater the chance it will go wrong and at best not have the desired effect, and worst really annoy the player. If you do choose to use a complicated mechanic, make sure you test it, test it, then test it some more.

Girls don't like math. Didn't you know that? Barbie said so once, therefore it must be true.
  6. Oh yes, I also expect that the most efficient progression through the system will involve either stealth or lots of AoE. There will continue to be no point in playing a strong single-target specialist unless there are unscaleable AVs, which I honestly hope doesn't happen, and probably won't because the outcry will be HUGE (and rightly so, IMO), and they will be replaced with EBs with 90% S/L resistance. I expect huge amounts of S/L resistance either way.

  7. I expect there to be very little content, that you will have to farm heavily in order to progress.

I expect said content to be heavily scripted and have unique maps, which will be used as an excuse for why there is so little of it. I expect many of the scripted encounters to be poorly tested and prone to bugs.

I expect it to be based in the evil goatee universe and involve the Puddle of Annoyance. I expect there to be plot holes, idiot balls, and character hijacking, which someone will point out and we'll argue about it for pages on the forums. Someone will call me names, and several people will post in a thread that is clearly about lore to proclaim that they don't care about lore, only shinies.

I expect typos and spelling and grammatical errors. These will be /bugged in beta but will go live anyway and remain until the servers shut down.

I expect someone to immediately complain that they can't solo the content with their SOd FF/Elec Defender or Blaster with no defense who doesn't bother with inspirations. Suggestions to use temp powers or inspirations will be met with "but I shouldn't have to, the game is balanced around SOs." I expect the solo Incarnate path to be balanced around IOs, but no dev to actually say so.

I expect it to be exclusively heroic in tone. Someone will complain. Someone else will imply that players who play villains are villains in real life

    I expect cut scenes.

I expect it to be significantly slower than trial progression, even for a strong soloist.

In each thread that discusses the announced content, I expect a statement along the lines of "if you don't like to team why are you playing an MMO" on the first page.

Um, yeah, no. Personally, I don't see the attraction of sexualized poses like that in comics except on an extremely shallow level. Cheesecake is for pin-ups, in which "sexy" is the extent of the model's characterization. And no, I have absolutely no interest in seeing male heroes in sexualized poses either, and by that I mean actual male model poses not the silly "what if they posed Batman the way they pose Wonder Woman" pictures going around the internet. Superhero comics are supposed to be about superheroes, not underwear models.

That's the problem I have with that site. It obfuscates the real issue by listing examples that people can point to and say "see? You're wrong! All this stuff happens to male heroes all the time too!" And those people would be right, because that list is far too broad. That's why I prefer the list of examples on TVtropes.

Right, because all those X-men comics in the '80s, with loads of female characters and soap-opera level drama (which would fall under the heading of character development and relationships)--you know, all that stuff that people keep saying girls want--were terribly unpopular with boys and weren't superhero comics.

And I guess this game isn't actually a superhero game either, since a lot of women play it. Actually, I don't get why guys play it at all, since you're told to dress up a virtual Barbie doll before you get to punch anything in the face.

I believe the word you're looking for in this case is "dumbs down." I'm pretty sure they didn't do that to appeal to girls, unless the "girls" in question are still in the third grade.

These aren't superpowered stories with romance, they're romance stories with superpowers. The difference is the focus. Sookie Stackhouse would have had a boring life if she hadn't started dating a vampire. On the other hand, Jean Grey have still had the Dark Phoenix saga if she hadn't started dating Cyclops.

Basically, there's something about spending every image frame with your rear hiked up in the air (yes, an exaggeration, but not that much of one) that doesn't jive well with notions I get from my female friends about what a woman they would look up to would be doing. One of them? Sure. All of them? That's a stretch to me.

Let's fact it, those characters were being frequently being visually depicted as sex objects. Now, let me be clear, I'm not mentioning that because I object to it, per se. I just find it hard to believe that most women (assuming most women would read it to start with) would consider that a depiction of something to look up to.
It depends how it's done. Fanservice doesn't automatically mean sticking your rear in the air. Storm running around naked for no real reason other than she doesn't care certainly qualifies as fanservice, and yet doesn't make her a sex object, or any less someone to look up to. The entire superhero comic book genre is loaded with opportunities for incidental fanservice, what with everyone running around in painted-on tights.
  11. Synapse: "Hey, watch this..."
    Numina: "Klatu...barata..."
  12. I really don't care about any of them as characters. Sure, I'd like Statesman to bite it, and no, this isn't creator hate projected onto the character. I don't like Superman either.

However, for reasons having nothing to do with the characters themselves, I hope they don't kill off BAB (partly because killing off the black guy is so cliche, partly because it would look petty considering his namesake's departure), or either of the women, because I'm sure it'll only be done to focus on how sad their boyfriends are. Also, whoever dies, I hope they replace them with BAB and not Captain Hotpants.

A hostage created with the "rescue a captive" objective should always run away, although there have been instances where they don't on some maps, especially outdoor maps with the orange box entrance. I don't think they have a setting to do anything else. Allies will follow by default, but can be set to run away, although the "run away" and "run to nearest door" settings have been bugged in the past.

    4. Also Collected Objects: Is there a way to make collected objects "unspawn" or disappear under a condition?
Under settings you can set them to disappear when they are clicked. That's the only way you can get them to disappear.

    5. Destructible Object/Ambush: I have 2 ambushes set to go off at 1/4 and 3/4 damage of a destructible object. Strangely, the second one spawns but the first one doesn't. Any ideas why?
Maybe you're destroying the object too quickly and getting both ambushes at once?

    6. New Mission Objective: Finally, I thought I'd read somewhere that a new mission objective can initiate after completion of a particular objective, but I can't seem to figure out how to set it up. Is it possible?
Under settings there will be an option that says "Objective becomes active when..." The default is "mission begins." If you scroll down you will get a list of valid conditions for your objective to initiate on. Be careful with chained objectives, choose your map carefully, and test your mission repeatedly. They can be very annoying if you overdo them and the player has to run back and forth all over the map.

After the clue in the first mission I was all "but Malta wouldn't be helping Crey with this...." and was about to point out that canon discrepancy, until it became clear that Crey had the guns.

I'll consider making the memory crystal objective mandatory, though I hate glowie hunts in outdoor maps in general (the main purpose of the optional 'escort' objective is simply to put the mandatory glowie objective on the player's map). Any suggestions about that?
These glowies are big and very visible from a distance, and the map is mostly open without a million hiding places. I had no problems finding either one of them. You could give the guards around the crystal an obnoxious glowy emote to make it even more visible, but I don't think even that's necessary.
  16. Arc Played: The Astral Prison.

I played this with Dawnrazor, level 41 Katana/Invul Scrapper set to +1/x4/Yes bosses/no AVs. No issues with the difficulty level.

Overall I felt this was a good concept for an arc, and the execution was well done, and flowed well. One big problem with a concept like this is the issue of character hijacking, and you managed to mostly avoid this. The enemies are well-chosen, and I didn't find the customs overpowered. No complaints regarding map choices or gameplay.

Now, the first problem is with the level range. By level 40 you've already shut down Project Locke, and you're cleaning up the left-overs. Canonically, this arc should cap out at level 40. The other canon issue is, where did Crey get sapper guns? If they had them, you'd think they'd use them in-game, no?

The other issue is the sense of "something doesn't add up here" that starts with the initial contact. I assume your intent was to have the player catch on early in the arc, but the contact doesn't need to be a part of it. Crey would make the effort to put together a logical, cohesive "cover story" that your character is likely to fall for. The optional objectives in mission 1 do a good job of tipping you off though, so I'd make some of them mandatory.

Overall though, good job, just has a few holes that bugged me.

It's more like going into a thread about AE farmers' issues and saying "Well, I never experienced that, but I don't farm AE." (And if I did it would be with characters that don't need to pop a tray full of inspirations to stay alive). It is a farming issue, no matter how much people try to deflect by bringing up some fringe scenarios you might encounter once or twice.
  18. I can honestly say I have never, in my six years of playing this game, popped inspirations before entering a mission, inside AE or out.

Hot doors are a separate issue and those spawn points need to be removed, as well as ambushes that trigger as soon as the player enters the map, but they have nothing to do with inspiration use and I've encountered far more of them outside AE than in.

In a meta-sense yes, it did do that. However, he was not killed to get at Dietrich, or for teh evulz; he was killed because he was in the bad guy's way. He wasn't placed in the arc just to be killed off. His importance to the story doesn't begin and end with his death. His character isn't defined by his relationship to Dietrich. He was an active participant in the RWZ storyline from the beginning.

She's younger than Sister Psyche, and nobody has any problems beating her up. You're not beating up an old woman, you're beating up a veteran hero who knows kung-fu. Her being middle-aged and retired would justify you being able to beat her up relatively easily (make her a boss instead of an EB) but if an old man with cancer can put up a fight, so should she.

It think it's the responsibility of every author in this genre to think very carefully before they put a woman in a refrigerator. If they did this, the trope wouldn't be nearly as common, and so wouldn't be problematic. But they don't. They use it as a cheap shock tactic, just like this arc does.
