Quote:Cryo Freeze Ray is great with Ignite, especially if you can get enough recharge to stack it on bosses. Especially in the 40+ game, a lot of them are highly resistant to lethal damage, so having another option is nice.I picked up Ignite in the 30s to use on AVs (on teams... EBs chase me over the map as I leap about, shooting them constantly, heh), and then finally to pair up with Cryo Freeze Ray at 44.
We'll see how much I like it (my Blaster is at 41)... I may dump both for Sniper Rifle if Ignite proves too situational, even with Cryo. I still run into times that I'd love to have a Snipe, and it sounds cool, heh.
Snipe is far more situational than Ignite, IMO, especially if you team a lot. Although the bonuses from Sting of the Manticore are nice. -
Quote:I object to it on principle. You should not be rewarded for sucking. (Note that I had this accolade the moment it went live on my villain main, and farming it is stupidly easy, if a bit tedious.)With the reduction in the debt badge requirements, I don't mind debt badge 4 as part of high pain.....

Yeah, pretty much, since, based on forum chatter, the farmers were all planning to go back to regular content with the enhanced difficulty options anyway.

Having spent the last two double xp weekends killing Banished Pantheon until my eyeballs bled to get Popular, I am SOOOOO glad I will not have to do it again for Leader.
However, some of the new numbers seem a bit off. The FIRST epic damage taken badge is still at 25 mil....I have never gotten the 10 mil badge before 50, ever, on any character.
Dropping most of the defeat badges to a nice even 100 instead of the arbitrary 200s and 500s is a nice change. And THANK YOU THANK YOU for reevaluating Born in Battle...now if we could only get rid of the stupid debt badge requirement for High Pain Threshold... -
Since it sounds like with the difficulty slider you'll be able to downgrade bosses to Lieutenants no matter how high you set your spawn size, you can mow down mobs of the easier standard enemy groups fairly quickly with AoEs as well. Minions give lousy rewards anyway. Lieutenants aren't much more difficult for many builds, if you choose your enemy group wisely, and give significantly better rewards.

Quote the whole thing Venture. It also says they can be more difficult than standard critters. At higher levels, that's not necessarily true.
-
Two problems:
1: As Mirai pointed out, critters with custom power selections are worth less xp than a critter set to "hard" or "extreme," despite possibly having more powers. From my experience, the "extreme" setting is generally only used by lazy arc creators who are more interested in creating "uber super-awesome" player-killers than well-balanced, or even challenging critters. Critters set to "extreme" are usually significantly more difficult than standard dev-created critters, even at 50. Authors who wish to create challenging but balanced critters select custom powers.
Personally, I would rather keep the current restrictions on custom power selections (Standard + whatever extras I choose) and have them award decent XP than be penalized for trying to create an interesting, thematically appropriate and suitably challenging critter by hand-picking its powers.
2: Even set to standard, custom critters are more difficult than standard critters below level 30 or so. So not only are the authors of lowbie-friendly content being penalized by being limited in what powersets they can select for their customs without making them overpowered for their level, now nobody will want to play arcs that contain customs because they give an XP penalty.
3: Being forced to have all three ranks in a custom group will penalize authors who are limited to a single rank due to file size or story limitations. I would suggest that the reward penalties should only apply to groups that contain NO MINIONS, so as to curb all-boss and all-LT farming while allowing all-minion or no-boss groups that some authors use. -
There is the Leviathan cave, which has a watery look, but is rather annoying to navigate, as well as being mostly empty when you use it in MA. Some of the Cimeroran caves also have a room with water in it. There are also outdoor maps with water, such as the Grandville beach map, one of the "forest" maps, the St Martial map, and the Mercy Island docks map, but none of them have spawn points in the water.
For your customs, the closest you could get to "water" is giving them ice powers, which could be annoying if all the customs have them, due to stacking slows. -

Most people I play with fall into this category. -

Dear contacts,
I am aware of the existence of hazard zones. I am aware that I have reached the minimum level to get into a new hazard zone. However, all the enemies in said zone are my level or higher, and the spawn sizes are designed for teams. Teams do not want to go to these zones; teams want to do missions. I am incapable of taking out these spawns by myself, and so must waste a mission drop on this introduction to the zone, just to get you to give me a real mission.
Furthermore, contact, two of my other contacts have already informed me of the existence of the Abandoned Sewers, the presence of the Rikti in said sewers, and that they want me to defeat them. The other two contacts want me to go to Eden. I said no to them, what makes you think I will say yes to you?
Please stop trying to make me go into hazard zones and give me a real mission.
Sincerely,
Not a Scrapper. -
Yeah, stop listening to us and go play. You have a viable build there, lots of AoE damage for teams and good mitigation for soloing. You're probably going to end up tweaking your final build anyway, as you settle into your playstyle and discover what works best for you.

You know, I've been making "battlecry" binds for years and I've never thought to do this. Although it would have to be "say" not "local," as the real battlecry goes into whatever channel you are currently speaking in, and "local" binds don't show during cutscenes. (I will stop yelling my battlecry during cutscenes when the devs stop forcing us to sit through them repeatedly).

Quote:Mind unblown, since by my definition you're not a casual gamer. Your knowledge of the game, veteran status, and time spent on the game even when you're not actually playing it (ie, using the forums) puts you far above many many players, regardless of how many hours a week you play.Sorry but making up different definitions or twisting out of context dev quotes to fit your argument does not make it a reality. Casual is exactly what it sounds like. No hidden meaning, no secret qualifications. It means you play ...well...casually. Generally this falls into the 10 or so hours a week category but that is not even a solid definition. A person who logs on for 8 hours a day and chats with friends while running sporatic missions now and then is...wait for it....a casual player.
Ready for me to blow your mind. I am both a casual gamer and a farmer.
Boom!
Until the devs step up and give us their definition of "casual," my definition is just as valid as yours. -
Quote:You can pay rent in Galaxy, actually. There is a supergroup registrar inside the Hero Corps building.I have flown by the AE building on my way to pay the SG rent in Atlas and was put through a sucession of Map Serves and finally DC'd reconnected and repeated again. Now I am not the brightest bulb in the package but when you have to re-log over 5 times just to get away from a simple building just so you can pay your rent, there is a problem. ( and why we cant set up auto bill pay from our local paragon bank I dont know. If the water company can figure out how to autopay the bill then youwuld think that a Hero or Villian of our caliber would be able to.)

Quote:It's a role-playing GAME. The beauty of such a thing is that it can be different things to different people. Many things turned out to be what was not initially intended. I believe an famous author one said "good intentions line the stairway to hell". Firts and foremost CoX is a RPG, Role Playing Game. not an arcade where you see how high you can score. how much role playing can be had just running the same mission over and over. not much charater development can come from that.
Quote:I do hope you are right on that count. The amount of farming is attrocious. People lagging down the game in an attempt to make a profit of the lazy are not very heroic. Villianous perhaps, but not heroic. No offense to any villians out there.
Also, players are not at fault for other people's lag issues, unless they deliberately do things specifically to cause lag and/or be annoying (such as dropping Freezing Rain at Wentworth's, or at a Hami raid). Herd mentality has caused lag issues since long before AE existed; Atlas Park on Freedom has always been a lagfest, but people still start new characters there instead of Galaxy, even if they're not planning on AE farming. Not to mention all those players moving from their home servers to Freedom and Virtue...because that's where the crowd is. Herd mentality will never go away. It's up to the devs to minimize the negative impact of this behavior. -
Quote:There is a huge difference between people violating the EULA by selling in-game currency for real money, and people farming inf for their personal use.Actually the Devs do have a problem with farming. Why would they will take actions against you if you get caught buying a pl or inf, if farming were ok with them.
Buying a PL, again, is ok as long as you're paying with in-game items and not real money.
While the devs may take steps to attempt to curb PLing and farming, unless you're taking advantage of an exploit you are not technically in violation of the EULA by doing it. So people will continue to do it, and continue to get away with it. The ability to set your team size that we'll be getting in i16 is, I think, the devs finally admitting that farming happens, they will never stop it, and trying to make it less intrusive for those players who don't participate.
AE farming happens, they will never stop it without nerfing AE rewards to the point where nobody uses it for anything, and this thread is an attempt at coming up with ways to make it less intrusive for those who don't participate. -
You'll be fine with just a Stealth IO, gameplay wise, and it'll make you see-through and stealthy-looking to go with your concept. The Superspeed suggestion was in case you wanted complete invisibility.
I'd still ditch Stun, and replace it with Hasten. Recharge is your friend. I don't know what level you are with this guy, but AR has some long recharge times.
Boost Range will be a few seconds away from perma with a single level 50 common IO. Of course if you're planning on exemping a lot, you'll lose the set bonuses that make it so. -
Quote:The fact that you're on the forums at all (with over 5,000 posts) is a sign that you are not a casual gamer.Actually I fit there "Casual Gamer" mold perfectly. A couple of hours a night and a few nights a week. TF/SF take planning to join and I get possibly a handful a month if I am very lucky.
Casual gamer is not about the stuff you gather, it is about your play style. I can casually enjoy the invention system. During my limited playtime I can gather up the influence to put toward an IO.
Do you use Mids? Do you know what the best ways to gather up said influence are (the best ways FOR YOU, taking into account boredom, what your friends are doing, and other such intangibles, not necessarily the fastest, most efficient ways for the hardcore farmer, marketeer or average player)? Do you look over IO sets and choose the ones with the most beneficial bonuses for your build and playstyle? If you do any of those things, sorry, you're not casual. -
With Beanbag, Total Focus, and the KB from M30 and Buckshot you should be able to solo just fine.
Stupefy in Total Focus? Really? All you really need the stun for is to stack with Beanbag to stun a boss quickly, after that you can get Beanbag stacking with itself, especially if you ditch Stun and pick up Hasten instead. Really, you want Hasten with AR anyway. You can slot TF with Mako's for a ranged def bonus.
I'd ditch Stealth as well and pick up Maneuvers, it gives better def that doesn't suppress when you attack, and doesn't slow you. If you want the invisibility drop Swift and get Superspeed instead, or swap out Superjump for Superspeed if you don't mind relying on the raptor pack for vertical movement.
And I'd really suggest trying to find some way to max out the damage on M30. If you're gonna use it, it should kill stuff. Shield Breaker in Surveillance will give you the same AoE def as Undermined Defense, only at 4 pieces, so you'll be saving two slots you can use in M30. You would lose some def debuff and recharge by using a lower-level set, but Surveillance isn't auto-hit so accuracy is good and I don't think it stacks with itself anyway. -

Whether the buyers are punished or not (and they should be, IMO) the purchasing of inf from RMT companies is flat out a violation of the EULA and most certainly not intended by the devs.
-
Obviously you have a different definition of farming than some people. I personally define it as performing the same activity over and over for the rewards. Judging from some dev statements, this seems to be their definition as well. Whether these rewards are drops, inf, badges or XP, is irrelevant.
