  1. When you click My Creations, you get four tabs: critters, groups, local arcs, and published arcs. Make sure you click the local stories one.
  2. Defendable objects are wonky and can stack on top of each other sometimes. How many defendable objects were listed in the nav bar when you ran the mission? Even if the map only allows for 2 objects to be placed in the back, you can place more, up to the map's limit. The extras will be pushed out of the back into another area. This is what should happen. However since defendable objects can be wonky, it may have allowed them all to spawn in the two available back locations.

An inefficient farm is still a farm. The intent is to maximize reward while minimizing risk and/or time spent. Success or failure is irrelevant.

Although you're right, the only custom critter farms I have run into, after the initial wave of Dual Blades customs, were all Fire Melee lieutenants. The overwhelming majority have used standard critters.
  4. No, that does not look like a farm. Anyone who would think it's a farm has never seen a real farm. What you describe sounds like a poorly designed custom critter showcase. Poor design =/= intent to min-max the system.

Farms are designed specifically to min-max the system; a farm full of captives and bosses with dialogue, optional objectives that give clues, and customs with cute descriptions is still a farm if it is specifically designed to minimize risk and time spent and maximize rewards.

I suggest, if you are going to continue your crusade, that you go find a few 52-52 missions full of Maniac Slammer bosses or custom Fire Melee lieutenants or Freak lieutenants, go in, and see what an actual farm looks like. Because right now you are just making a lot of noise, and very little sense.
  5. Aid self is completely unsuited to my playstyle on melee characters (although I do have it on a few squishies), and doesn't fit into already tight builds.

    Besides, I like living dangerously.

<more sarcasm> Yes, using arcs with customs that were created 2 issues and multiple patches ago as an example is a good idea.</sarcasm>

There are epics, which have armors that will help your survivability, as well as other useful powers. Many of them also have holds, you may want to choose one of those, as the hold will stack with Shocking Grasp and allow you to kill bosses in complete safety. The Electrical Mastery pool has a hold, an armor, an AoE attack, a long-recharge click that gives you very high resistance and improves your recovery for a few minutes, and it matches your secondary.

Also, is hover valuable once I have fly? My understanding is that when still, fly acts the same as hover, so couldn't I just take the other prereq power for fly and ignore hover altogether?
Hover uses far less end, gives you a bit of defense, and has much better air control. With fly, you slide when you try to stop or turn; with hover you can stop and turn on a dime.

Again, thanks for the discussion. I'm sure I'll be getting an imperfect build, but I'm certainly learning from this conversation!
This game is not so difficult as to require a "perfect" build, and what you learn from planning your own will make you a far better player IMO.

I'll go ahead and do it if that's one of the silly requirements, but I won't have to like it.

Seems pretty par for the course with a lot of the devs' decisions regarding MA lately...
It does actually make sense. "Looking for Feedback" implies that you are still making changes to the arc, in the hopes of improving it. Once an arc gets Devs Choice you can't make any changes, so you'd better be happy with it.

    Do want.

You do realize the perils of asking for farms in a forum where many very vocal posters blame farmers for everything from MA nerfs to global warming right?

I don't know which is more perilous, asking for farms or attempting to run them with a level 28...

In other words, there's a bit of self-serving promotion going on, not necessarily a reward for creativity.

There was also a response from Posi in one of the "why aren't there any new DCs?" threads stating that a few arcs almost made it, but failed to meet some requirement, like not warning about an AV. He then completely failed to tell us what all those requirements were. So who knows, half the people in this forum might have had an arc considered for Dev's Choice at some point, but been rejected because of some little thing that could be easily fixed without detracting from the arc at all.

Or it could be that arcs which incorporate many of the QoL issues we have come to expect (limited defeat alls, short lead-outs, maps only as big as they need to be) are rejected because they don't follow the "spend half an hour fighting through a map to collect one blinky" formula of standard content.
  13. Ok, but if you are patient and rich are you better off using the Shield Walls?
  14. Is there any reason people aren't using this set in their builds? Is it just the cost and the fact that the official version of Mids doesn't support PvP IOs, or am I misreading something in the IO description?

Compared to Luck of the Gambler, Shield Wall gives an extra 1.13% HP at 3 pieces, and the same regen bonus at 2 pieces. Is that accuracy bonus from having 4 pieces LotG that important on top of all the other accuracy bonuses a high-end build piles up?

Basically what I'm asking, is it dumb to slot stuff with the LotG 7.5% and 3 pieces of Shield Wall instead of using 4 pieces of LotG? According to St0n3y's version of Mids, I'm better off doing that.
  15. I have no problem with timed missions as long as:

1: I know in advance they are coming. This means "You have 30 minutes to complete this mission" BEFORE I accept. It can be part of the contact's dialogue and delivered in-character, but in that case it should be colored to stand out as a warning.

2: The time limit is sufficient to complete the mission, provided I make a reasonable attempt to do so. Don't pull a Tina and hand out 10 minute timed missions. If your intent in doing this is to force failure, well most of the time I don't fail Tina's mission either, so it likely won't work. Setting a short timer to force the player to hurry is very very tricky to pull off, and even if you do it well some people will still be annoyed.

    3: There's a story reason for it.

4: They don't contain required captives or allies until that bug is fixed.

They do apply to inf, and to tickets as well.

*Sigh* AE missions give inf because inf is part of the basic reward mechanic of the game.

If you're lagging in the Skyway City AE building then how do you manage to play the rest of the game?
  19. They should have limited the minion and lieutenant 0.8 modifier to the 40+ freaks, and given everything below that a 1.0 modifier. They still hit hard, and at lower levels they're more dangerous than a lot of other groups.

As far as overnerfs go though, this one is minor.

The people who just want to use AE as a soulless XP engine will always be out there, finding the easiest, fastest route to 50; the challenge is not allowing those people to ruin things for the rest of us. As each exploit is handled, the pendulum swings the other way, sometimes over-correcting, but eventually we'll have equilibrium.
I think the fear most people have is that this will not happen. The feature will be nerfed. People will stop using the feature. Fixing the now-unpopular feature will be moved down the priority list in favor of the new shiny. Unfortunately this fear isn't entirely unjustified.

Bugs from i15, such as some maps having Front, Middle and Back spawn points not working properly, boss and rescue points being switched on the minimap, and captives auto-failing timed missions still haven't been fixed. Must get the new shiny out there for the ADD generation.

One thing I've seen brought up a number of times that I want to address is defeat badges. Some of these badges are required for weapon unlocks, accolades or have just plain cool titles may be impossible or incredibly difficult to earn for villains, but easy to earn for heroes or visa versa. No changes are going to be made to most of these badges for now (see the below patch notes for exceptions). Our current stance is that players will be able to earn these badges when they change sides using the Going Rogue system. This will have to be tested thouroughly in beta though, and see how this theory holds up then.
*sigh* whatever happened to switching sides for character concept reasons? Now even the devs are telling us to do it for mechanical reasons.

And it's not like the hardcore badgers who are planning to switch sides for more badges don't already have all the weapon unlock badges.
  22. Getting most of the AE badges on my main through legitimate play before they were removed, getting characters from 17-50, 35-43, and 1-20 all through AE means I've already played a ton of the arcs promoted through this forum. I haven't written anything publishable in months.

It's not just this forum though, the forums in general have been less active since the move. Probably a combination of all the stuff Geek Boy said.
  23. Well we DID steal Jenkins from them....so we're even I guess.

Azuria is getting bored of just handing out salvage to people wanting to do ITFs. She needs YOU to bring her more stuff she can lose.
  25. 1) Aid Self is great if you have the space. Personally, I wouldn't ditch Hasten for it, especially with a set like AR, what with Flamethrower and Full Auto being awesome but on a fairly long recharge.

    2) I have yet to make up my mind on Surveillance. Again, I have room, because my secondary sucks, while yours does not.

    3) Cryo Freeze Ray will probably cycle fast enough to keep two mobs chain-held, depending on how much recharge you get into the power and how much global recharge you can scam. 6-Slotting it with Lockdown will get you some more ranged and AoE def. Ignite is a fairly small patch though, so getting two mobs into it relies on them being close together to begin with. You can get more than two if you team with a tank and controller, but not solo.
