  1. It happens if you're doing multiple changes, and republishing often.

In order to avoid this problem, you have to:
1: Make your changes, hit "republish and exit."
2: Wait for the "blah blah blah has been updated" message. This may take a minute.
3: Hit the "search" button to refresh the "my published stories" window. This step is important; if you don't do it you will be editing the version of the arc from before you republished, and will revert the edits you made.
4: You can now hit "Edit" again, and all the changes you made in the previous edit SHOULD stick. Rinse, repeat.

So if you FIND a good farm ... and you CAN solo it ... please DON'T. Invite others. And lets get AE widely populated again!
I disagree. If you find a good farm, please DO solo it. Or if you don't want to solo, invite your farming friends only. Farming should be for the people who can actually do it, they're the ones who quietly, out of sight of the rest of the playerbase, stock the market with stuff and overpay for my stuff.

"Level 2 corr lf 52+ AE" spam only serves to give AE a bad rap.

Oh and edit: If you find a good farm, use THAT FARM. Don't publish your own farm that is for all intents and purposes identical.

    Can MA be saved?

I think it's because 1) ANYBODY can make an arc, and 2) most people don't read the forums. They have to rely on the search function to find arcs to play, and when that function turns up a bunch of arcs full of spelling errors (in the titles even), poorly designed custom critters, glorified paper missions full of the aforementioned poorly designed custom critters, and outdated farms, it just makes player-designed content appear vastly inferior to the most tedious of dev-designed content.

The rating system is utter garbage. The only arcs that can maintain a five-star rating for any length of time before a griefer comes in and 1-stars them back to page 300 are the ones that are already so popular that the sheer volume of 5-stars overwhelms any negative votes they get. (This is not to imply that the popularity of these arcs is undeserved. I have 5-starred some of these arcs myself). Dev's Choice...we've already discussed ad nauseum what a joke it is.

Add to that the seriously bad rap MA has gotten when 99.99% of all conversations about it outside this forum have contained the word "farm," it's no wonder people don't want to play it.

As for incentive to create new arcs, no, a tangible incentive isn't needed. It's the opposite of needed. We had incentives before, in the form of badges, and look what happened. People who create arcs for any reason other than the fact that they enjoy creating arcs shouldn't be creating them. Part of that enjoyment though, comes from someone else enjoying your creation. If nobody is playing your arc, what's the point of publishing it? If nobody is publishing arcs, what is there to play? It's a vicious cycle.

I haven't actually published anything in months myself due to a chronic case of too many half-formed ideas and not enough fully formed ones, and an obsession with making my Scrappers moar awesome. The fastest way to earn the inf to do this seems to be through tickets, so I have been actually playing people's arcs.

    Annoying, really.
That's been happening since the "empty" option was introduced, or shortly afterward. The only way you can have a solo boss is to set the whole map to "empty."

In many cases, I find this works better than some watered-down version of a swear word. If it's in-character for your NPC to swear, then he should swear, even if he gets bleeped. And like you said, it's very comic-booky.
  7. Bringing back this thread for new i16 bugs.

An bug that isn't new: When editing standard critters, the "Disable particle fx string" option flat out doesn't work. It looks like it does, but the change doesn't save.

Allies now appear to super-sidekick to the player. While this increases your options (a Hellion ally will SSK themselves to level 50), it can cause problems on higher difficulty settings, as the allies will no longer match the level of the mission.

Oh, and some good news: THE GENERATOR IS BACK!!!

That TF needs to be dragged out into a field and shot, jumped on, chopped into little pieces, boiled in oil and thrown into the deepest darkest abyss to be chewed on by horrors beyond imagining until the end of time.

It's like they deliberately tried to make it as long and tedious as possible. Then they added simultaneous clickies just to make SURE that if enough of your teammates decided ramming rusty nails into their eyes was preferable to spending another second on that abomination, you were completely and utterly screwed. Rularuu is laughing at you for even starting that thing.

    * Scrapper - Dark Armor - Cloak of Darkness has an additional theme that no longer makes the character invisible.
    Thank YOU!

Oh and yay on the Snap Shot fix, it looked really weird.
  10. MA/Regen - Because she was my first. After slogging to 50 with my first character (AR/Fire Blaster), struggling with noobness, a lousy secondary, and the general squishiness of an i4 Blaster, this was easy mode. Plus, MA looks cool. I chose it because it looks cool, and I still think it does.

DB/SR - My first toon to realize that defense doesn't suck. I was late to the softcap party, but she was so much fun to level up, working on my build as I went along and getting more and more awesome all the time.

DM/SD - My current pet Scrapper. I actually rolled her up before I knew it was uber, because I saw all the custom shields and had to have them, and the conversations I'd had with people on test said shields was weak on mitigation, so I picked the primary with the self-heal. Eventually I went on to solo AVs and stuff with her.

Least favorite? BS/Regen. I just couldn't get into it. Too slow, too much dying from delayed button-mashing. I finally deleted her at 41, and rerolled as a Kat/Inv.
  11. I want a badge that requires you to defeat one of every enemy that can spawn outdoors on your side of the law. Every minion, every lieutenant, every boss. The Tsoo boss hunts alone would be epic.

It would be hilarious, while at the same time being the penultimate "anti-farm."

And as for the reduced requirements, I agree with many of them. Like the inf badges. Before I engaged in "aberrant behavior" for the sake of a badge (hunting Dark Astoria until my eyes bled on double XP weekend) my main badger, whom I have played a lot over the last four years, was around the 500 mil inf mark. Four years of fairly regular normal play...that's about right for an epic badge.
  12. I believe invalid arcs can still be edited, they just can't be played; the OP has the opposite problem.

If you have two accounts, you can only edit a published arc from the account that published it. The only other reason I can think of is some kind of bug, and for that you would have to contact support.

Just a thought: what happens if you change your global handle? Does it automatically change the global handle listed on your arcs?

    Am I Ebil?

I think I'm addicted to watching it go up now. 400 mil in the last few days (before that overbid), and that's mostly from Bronze rolls. I'm not farming either, it's all "lolRP" arcs run at +2/x6.

So you see, I am providing a valuable service by keeping the supply of desirable low-level recipes flowing. Not my fault people want to pay a lot of inf for them.

    Am I Ebil?

Finally, I managed to stop spending all my inf and officially make it into the billionaires' club.

I would like to thank the price of purples for not going down to the point where I want to start buying them again, and whoever bid that extra zero on my Reactive Armor and put me over the 1 bil mark sooner than I expected.

    New Dev Choices?

This issue didn't add a single scrap of content. Last issue added two TFs for high-level players, that aren't very popular because the final encounter is tedious. The issue before that didn't add a single scrap of content. The issue before that, a few short arcs, ripping villains off again, and for heroes being limited to a level range where we already have lots of content that doesn't include multiple boss ambushes, and the Cimeroran arcs....what were those about again?

Devs' Choice is a pretty quick way to get some "new" officially-sanctioned content into the game on a regular basis, much of which is frankly far better than the lackluster offerings we've been getting from the devs for the last few issues.
  16. Yay, you fought them and didn't die. So have I. That isn't the point. There is no story reason for those guys to be AVs, aside from "these guys are more important than the goons, let's make them AVs." Heroes fight four AVs in that zone, in four fairly short arcs. Heroes fight four AVs outside that zone, in all the non-TF content up to level 40.

The EB rank is seriously underused, especially blueside. We have what, four? Maybe a few more in the RWZ? Not everything needs to be an AV.

    COH Mythbusters

You and I obviously have very different definitions of "average" then, as I have seen plenty of players that I would classify as "average" faceplant repeatedly on MMs. I'm one of them, I suck at MMs.
  18. Oh and another thing: heroside really could use some more EBs. Upgrade some "end of story arc" bosses (Ubelmann is the first that comes to mind, but some others could use the treatment as well), and downgrade the Faultline AVs. It's lower-level content, it shouldn't have so many AVs in it, and Sands is the only one of those guys remotely cool enough to be an AV.
  19. Eva Destruction

    COH Mythbusters

Myth: It's difficult to get killed on a MM in general PvE

Fact: MMs are the easiest AT to get killed on if you don't know how to play one well.
  20. Not only is it cool, it's new and shiny. Everybody wants to play with the new shiny. The character I have been playing most was created when I couldn't customize my powers, but I want to play with the new shiny. Does regular, garden variety Dark Melee suit her concept perfectly fine? Yes, it does (aside from the obnoxious Soul Drain glow). But, new shiny....so I customized my Dark Melee a bit to match my costumes.

Give it a few months. By then there will be a whole slew of characters running around with concepts built on power customization, instead of a bunch of characters with the new shiny tacked on to existing concepts.
  21. "Talk to Crimson" and "Talk to Indigo." I get why their briefings are really long, Malta plots being what they are, but we have a "tell me more" option for contacts now, use it. Talk to anyone, barring an actual physical object that must be delivered. All the contacts have cell phones. They should exchange numbers.

Defeat alls on outdoor maps. Defeat alls on outdoor maps with patrols. That defeat all psi clockwork on the factory map with patrols that get stuck on stuff. Most defeat alls in general.

Street hunts in a different zone from the contact, the only exception being the Rikti in Crey's Folly hunts from Steven Sheridan, since he's right next to the door and it's a quick way to get his number. Street hunts of more than 30. Street hunts that you have to do to progress with a story arc, that must be done in a specific zone (so you can't just grab a paper mission with the appropriate enemy group).

Any mission that is essentially a repeat of the previous one, story-wise. Any mission that is essentially a repeat of any other mission. I have already saved one law firm from the DE. I don't care to save any more.

    New Dev Choices?

New issue release is a bad time to mark a bunch of arcs as Dev's Choice, since authors may want to take advantage of new features, or edit their arcs to work around new limitations. Plus the devs are extra busy, and the promotion of new Dev's Choice arcs would be overridden by whatever New Shiny everyone has spent the last month getting excited about.

A good time for new DC arcs would be in that between-issue slump, when people aren't playing as much and everyone is getting bored with the last shiny. Give them something "new" to keep them entertained. And yes, I have a very low estimation of the average gamer's attention span, and no, I don't exclude myself.
  23. First off, the praetorians are unlockables, make sure you have them unlocked on the account you want to publish with. Second, try removing the invalid critters and reselecting them, sometimes patches wreak havoc on standard critters in custom groups. If that doesn't work...(insert longwinded rant about heavy-handed "fixes" to stop farming impacting authors and limiting creativity).
  24. XP or no XP, if the group surrounding the captive is just a boss, it will spawn multiple bosses, which makes your unique boss not unique, and is too difficult for some ATs. If you create a custom group, there is a good chance bosses, and even lieutenants won't spawn if the player is set to a low difficulty, and if you make your "unique" guy a minion or lieutenant players set to a high difficulty will get multiples.

So no, there is currently no way to do what you want.

Misappropriating the English language is an equal-opportunity thing.
