Actually there aren't any animations that I know of that can effectively simulate a fake fight. So I second the request for a "fake fight" option, with all the appropriate animations as options, and they would apply to both combatants to have them in sync with each other.

Just because Darrin is just a guy, doesn't mean he can't be delusional or have an exaggerated sense of his own importance. Especially if he's actually made contact with an aspect and gotten the whole "you are my chosen servant who shall bring Rularuu back to his full glory and then you shall receive thy reward" spiel.
And as for the Rulu-Shin, Darrin Wade wrote a book about them. I doubt he's a member, since members of secret cults don't usually write books about their cults, and at the end of his arc he mentions that he's trying to take over the Midnight Club and establish his own order. Why would he need to do that if he's already part of an order trying to restore Rularuu? -
Ooo, ooo, pick me!
I hereby submit "Freaks, Geeks, and Men in Black" ID #161629. -
I think the more likely explanation is that Darrin Wade is an idiot. He's the guy who repeatedly pokes Cthulhu with a stick and is genuinely surprised when he gets eaten.
Although...hmm, Kuuralath the Scavenger...you could have something there. Villains have been to the Shadow Shard. Who's to say some people didn't wander "off the beaten path" (ie out of the four zones we're aware of), run into one of the Aspects, and agree to do its bidding? We do know that Rularuu has his soldiers try to scavenge our technology, why not have minions to scavenge our magic as well? -
My laziness decided for me, since I copy-pasted from the original post.
Fine fine, I'll decide for myself.
1st place - Escalation
2nd place - Astoria in D Minor.
The final decision was based on a technicality, since half of "Teen Phalanx" caps below level 25.
Also best DO range arc:
1st place - The Invasion of the Really Long Title
2nd place - Ctrl + Alt + Reset -
I tend to refer to NPC allies as "idiots," because they are. This sometimes leads to misunderstandings with teammates who aren't in on it.

Quote:Who says he can't? Maybe he just chooses not to for whatever reason. Also, who says he has given up his physical form? Maybe it's just elsewhere. The guy can see from our dimension into others, so presumably he can see from other dimensions into ours. That would actually also make sense of his comments about how he's still among us, but we can't see him. If the Dream Doctor lost the physical half of his, err... Being? Let's go with that. If he lost the physical half of his being, he would very much remain back on Earth as only a thought, existing in the purely technical sense, but non-existent for the purposes of interacting with anything in the physical world. A living memory in the most literal sense of the expression. He can see us, and he likely still has some power to interact with Rularuu, his counterpart, but he cannot interact with any of us. So, for us, he's been dead (or is that "gone?") for years, whereas he just shaved a part of his own being.
Quote:I was just thinking, what actually happens when Rularuu consumes a dimension? Also, how does he consume it? Does he end up in some vast white area before traveling to the next dimension?
Hmm, this brings up two interesting thoughts: First, if Rularuu was in fact a vast consciousness that straddled dimensions, his power and his very sense of identity could have been tied to him being everywhere and nowhere. When he was trapped in the Shard, the very act of cutting him off weakened him greatly, drove him mad, and forced him to create the aspects to keep from being diminished to nothing.
Second, I got a sudden image of Rularuu slouching on that giant throne with his hand in his skirt a la Al Bundy, sucking back dimensions out of one of those beer hats. -
SO-range arcs....wow tough call. Can I cheat? Since we're voting with points (two to the first choice and one to the second) can I just vote for three arcs to get one point each? If I can, I choose:
Teen Phalanx Forever! #67335 @PW
Astoria in D Minor # 41565 @The Cheshire Cat
Escalation #6143 @FemFury
These are all excellent arcs, and all completely different, so it's pretty much impossible to say which is "best." -
What I hated more:
My sidekick is too far away to assist
I can assist my sidekick again
My sidekick is getting too far away to assist
My sidekick is too far away to assist
I can assist my sidekick again
All my heroes were thinking of holding sidekick auditions; the first test would be of their ability to keep up.
My villains held lackey auditions, and the ones that couldn't keep up were taken to Grandville and team-recalled into the Gutter. They say that sometimes at night you can still hear them scream.... -
Quote:Not only do powers like Aim and Build-up negate defensive powersets, they negate the most effective way for most characters to deal with overwhelming opposition: popping a purple or two. This is not good enemy design. This is strongly stacking the odds against one specific kind of protective power. Just because you don't think it's too much, it doesn't mean it's not. To have every lieutenant in a group have aim or build up is just brutal to characters who get by mostly on defense. Apparently your shield scrapper didn't have much of a problem, though I suspect that has more to do with shield charging most of the things to death than superior protective power. (Though, you also do have resistance to most types of damage, whereas an SR scrapper does not.)
I am at the point now where I would just like to see those two powers, along with Rage, removed from the Custom Critter creator entirely. Dev-created critters don't have them, no powerset is balanced to deal with them, and yet every other arc with custom critters contains them. -
If the aspects were once mortal, it could very well be because Rularuu himself was once mortal. He doesn't need to be an extra-dimensional equivalent of the Dream Doctor (although I do like this theory, I've always thought it had a certain symmetry), but rather someone who was once like him; the Recluse to his Statesman. Rather than being intrinsically supernatural, he's just a very very powerful mortal who managed to increase his power to the point where for all intents and purposes he is a god.
As for the CoT, they've been working on dimensional travel for millennia. The Shard was created by magical means, so magic would be the easiest way to get in. And binding an aspect of a god isn't really that different from binding a powerful demon, since in CoH lore "hell" is just another dimension.
Now as for the "architecture" of the shard: we have rivers of blood, mysterious plant life, and the soldiers of Rularuu themselves. How much of that was there before the breaking, and how much came after? what about that giant head, and the throne? It could be that Rularuu's power was great enough to form the Shard to his will; after all if he can devour whole realities certainly he can manage to redecorate his own...right down to the people. I think the Brutes and Wisps at least, and possibly the eyeballs, have a more-or-less human origin, twisted so they can better serve Rularuu. -
The ability to have a specific, unique, named critter as part of an objective's enemy group, and have that critter say relevant dialogue and perform emotes independently of the rest of the group. For example, if I set Boss 1 as a "fight a boss" objective, I would like to be able to have Boss 2 in his surrounding enemy group. The critter could also be used to guard an captive, guard a destructible object, etc.
Also a "negotiators" option on boss objectives, where the objective consists of two critters interacting with each other and both must be defeated for the objective to complete.
The ability to use standard minions and lieutenants as "fight a boss" objectives. -
Well those of us who like rewards but don't feel like running the same mission over and over again DO care about reward merits and AE tickets.
Developer-created content is finite. AE content is not.
AE tickets can't be compared to reward merits. They are not the same thing. -
Nobody has mentioned this yet so I will: EBs are now being treated as bosses for spawning purposes, and will show up in regular spawns unless they're specifically flagged "Don't Auto-spawn." If this is WAI it's a bad idea.

Quote:I have never had this NOT happen on a timed rescue, whether in testing or in people's published arcs.My tests suggest this happens any time you do a timed mission with a rescue, whether the rescued person is a custom or standard character, Person or statted. The only workaround I am aware of is to take off the timer.
Another workaround is to make the rescuee an escort, as they don't seem to suffer from the auto-fail issue. Of course they sometimes have issues of their own, where they just don't want to leave. -
Hehe, I like JABOATH.
My votes for best Epic:
1st place - A Warrior's Journey: the Flower Knight Task Force #260285 @PW
2nd place - One Million Eyes #71933 @minimalist -
-
My votes for best short arc:
1st place - Forget the Rose, Send Me the Thorns #8925 @Hydrophidian
2nd place - Becky's Revenge #60197 @New Age Ronin -
First you must add the enemy to your custom group. Once they're in, you click on them in the custom group list, click "edit standard critter." The name you use in the critter editor will be the name the player sees.

Just look at player villains. How many homicidal psychopaths, mercenaries, criminal masterminds and such do we level up to 50? Are they a global threat? Not most of them, no. But they are powerful villains, who threaten the well-being of innocent citizens, and as such require a powerful hero to stop them.

I republished one of my MA arcs (#122274) and it republished under my character's name instead of my global. I've noticed a few other arcs published under the author's character name as well.
Clicking the author's name (character or global) will still show all arcs published by that global, whether they show the global name or the character name. -
I'd like bosses to be able to use the teleport animation upon spawning as well, or have them spawn elsewhere (such as at the door) and run to the "spawn" point, something other than "there was no boss here a second ago and now there is a boss."
I will second multiple objectives with the same name as well. Simply add an option to have the display name be different than the actual objective name.
NPC powersets for custom critters. This would obviously be limited to powersets used by human NPCs, and I'd understand if some "signature" powers were excluded, but it would 1) allow more flexibility, 2) let custom critters better blend into groups with standard critters, 3) allow custom critters balanced for lower levels, 4) allow critters that aren't insanely difficult and yet give full xp. -
Wow, thanks. Glad you liked it. Yes, Alwani and West Libertalia are both from the "Mysterious General Z" arc, and Keyes initially started out as the American Diplomat (the guy whose idea of diplomacy is to pull out a submachine gun) from that arc, but ended up morphing quite a bit.
And after about 60 plays, somebody finally caught the K'tang reference. My work here is done. -
Custom critter toggle debuffs aren't actually toggles, they are clicks with a set duration. If Earthquake isn't firing I'd /bug it. Unfortunately if it isn't working I'm all out of ideas, because that's the only thing I can think of that cuts right through capped DDR.
Your other option would be to go with to-hit buffs....so that probably means Super Strength or Devices. Devices gives your guy a to-hit buff and not much else that is useful, and Rage can be waited out. Aim and Build Up on a single critter can also be easily avoided. -
