  3. Setting the boss's group to "Empty" will only work if the mission enemy group is set to "Empty." You can then populate the map with boss spawns and patrols and such.

And by doing so you essentially acknowledge that the majority of them will be crap. No matter what tools are provided, the majority of everything is crap.

Actually, as far as MA is concerned, not only do the poor uses of custom critters far outweigh the good, custom critters enabled people to not merely shoot themselves in the head, but everyone else too. Or maybe you hadn't noticed that it was abuse of customs that resulted in the current Patch From Hell?

For that matter, haven't about 90% of the problems with MA boiled down to abuse of customs?
Malaise Lunatic farms: Standard critters. Meow farms: Standard critters. Bubble farms: Standard critters. The Mastermind thing: Standard critters.

Also, as Fredrik said, people using customs to farm generally only need one or two.

No, you do not. You choose to.

The other truth people don't want to accept is that providing more choices is not inherently good. If you provide the average user with the choice to shoot himself in the head he probably will. Then he'll blame you for providing the choice, and he'd be right.
And yet there are a lot of people out there with access to a gun who have managed to not shoot themselves in the head yet.

And as for blaming me, well there are those people who blame Oreo cookies for making their kids fat. They're not right either.

That mission is pure distilled Scrapperlock in a bottle.

I would be leery of doing what you did. It's a single critter in a single mission so that's probably why you got away with it, but I would suggest erring on the side of caution.

It isn't necessary to use the names either; if you create an angst-ridden vampire with a sparkle aura and nothing to angst about, everyone will know what you're mocking.
  11. More inf than me = rich.
More inf than I need* = filthy rich.
More inf than I could ever conceivably need or want or know what to do with = obscenely rich.

*By "need" I mean "need to finish my current projects to my satisfaction;" none of them are Mind Doms and "to my satisfaction" is well beyond what is required to play the game, so it's quite a bit of inf.
  12. A good villain would make the AE system as attractive as possible, to distract those stupid heroes with shiny video games, thus leaving them free of intereference while they take over the world.

You don't have to agree with me, however i'm Not going to argue with you over a cheap dom build I built myself.

Anywho, Gray I sent you the build. Hope it helps.
Well I'm sure you're all enjoying your awesome Doms for a fraction of what some of us spent.

Now how does any of that help the guy looking for a level 35 Stealth IO again?

The next day. Seriously. I put arcs up for people to play, not to wait for some GM to maybe come along at some point who may or may not know what they're doing to approve them. Same goes for other people's arcs; if you put it up, and I want to play it, I want to play it today, not when some GM gets around to unlocking it.

The rating system already leaves authors too vulnerable to the actions of a single jerk. Let's not make them more so.

You can't purchase glad armor unique through merits. Your comparison confuses me.
Your claims of putting together a high-performance build for under 250 million in 3 days become far less impressive and far more irrelevant to the debate at hand when you start tossing around qualifiers like "Mind Dom" (which can use several low-demand sets with good bonuses) and "except for <expensive item X>, which doesn't count."

You can't purchase Gladiator's Armor uniques through merits, but there are ways to get them without using the market. Therefore, if I use those means, they shouldn't factor into the cost of my build, should they, just like you're not factoring in the cost of the expensive IOs you used.

I don't count the lotgs because they are not a set, the build only relies on a few and you can easily buy them with merits.
If by "easily" you mean "if you have a few hundred saved up," then yeah, sure you can.

By that same logic I can softcap you for under <x amount>. I don't count the Gladiator's Armor unique because it's not a set, the build only relies on one and you can easily get one through PvP.

My TP room is right next to the entrance and yet people still always go the wrong way and complain they can't find it.

What we really need is the ability to make signs for our base. Or have useful items marked on the minimap.

Rebuttal: I care more about whether the market is useful than whether it can be circumvented, because I'm an evil marketeer person.
Forcing rolls is bad, especially for those people who are insane enough to lock a character at a specific level for rolls.

It might actually be detrimental to supply, as it will cause an oversupply at low levels where few people buy recipes while not allowing those who roll at levels of reasonable demand and low supply (30-40, for example) to save up.

That's why I'm glad I farmed the hell out of TF's and built up tons of influence and IO'd my most favourite and important toons. What cost me about 1 billion to IO my main toon (tanker) and make him a bad *** would now cost me probably twice or even close to three times.
And in the last year we have had:

A massive amount of AE farming, resulting in a reduction of merit farming and an increased amount of inf.

A massive increase to the earning power of 50s, resulting in inflation. Merits alone don't account for the rise in prices, especially on items that can't be bought with merits.

Is the problem that Merits are seen as too valuable... or is it that influence is too worthless?
It's that people who aren't familiar with the market or recipe pools aren't aware of what stuff sells for, what their chance of getting a worthwhile recipe with a random roll is, or that random roll is random. They roll, get a Trap of the Hunter, deem merits worthless, and start saving up to buy their LotG directly.

  20. Plenty of reasons.

People adding rooms as they earn enough prestige for them, and not wanting/knowing how to move existing rooms.

People who can't design a base to save their lives.

People trying to squeeze as many rooms as possible into a smaller plot, resulting in a need to play room Tetris.

People who value form over function.

This is where people go when they're looking for help with the mechanics of arc creation.

"Stories and Lore" is where people go for advice on the story aspect of an arc, ask for arc recommendations, and it's where people advertise their arcs; threads advertising arcs or asking for a specific type of arc are usually there.
  22. I have a few questions for our new Redname overlord:

Why do you keep insisting I should FEAR YOU even after I've defeated you?

Are there any plans to reasses custom critter damage at low levels? Currently they hit far harder than the usual fare lowbies have to deal with, limiting their utility in low level arcs.

The blueside trial contains an unavoidable time sink. No matter how good you are you can't speed up the trial. The redside trial's completion time depends entirely on how good and how fast your team is.

As far as I'm concerned, handing out what essentially amount to free merits for running laps around the core is poor design. Not to mention that the blueside trial is horrendously boring because of the unavoidable time sink. Add a "next wave" trigger and the completion times, and thus the merit reward, will be more on par with the villain-side trial.

    Excellent Arcs

Some quick, one-mission arcs that are at 4 stars and that I enjoyed:

#1814: Science is a Harsh Mistress!
One of the first MA arcs I played when it went live, and it holds up still.

    #2595: The Extadine Lab
    It's just so cute.

#1526: The Bestest Radio Mission Ever
Pretty much all the radio missions in one.
  25. The "Announce your latest creation here" thread is a duplicate of the one in the Stories and Lore forum, and more properly belongs there.

The "Any good level 1 forward..." thread should also probably be there.
