That's true -- as Nericus pointed out, all of this is purely speculation. I'm speculating that, even if you have achieved both accolade badges, you can only actively have the accolade power that is "native" to the side you belong to currently.

However, they could just as easily make it that you can only actively have the accolade power that you earned first.

Like Nericus said, at this point it's all speculation. We won't know more until we can get into beta and start playing around with it (barring some pretty specific information or Q&A from the devs in the meantime).

I assume you're not saying that YOUR settings affect what *I* see, right? (Because they don't.)

You can have your UI set for anything you want, but if I choose "show player names always", I will ALWAYS see other toons' names.

I'm not really understanding your "working to hide the fact" comment, unless you're under the mistaken impression that a person's own settings affect others' views within the game.

No harm in passing the time between now and beta/more official information with a bit of harmless speculation, is there?

No "probably" about it, there is indeed an NDA associated with the GR closed beta. Attendees of Hero Con were required to sign it in order to be granted GR closed beta access.

He may be counting the CoH forums, which existed quite a bit in advance of even Beta (not to mention the game going live). Although usually GMs are in-game and 'mods' are forum-related, so...I dunno, maybe Ocho's just rounding way (way, WAY) up?

Two weeks later, I see that not only is that name running around on the same server, but that it's a member of my SG running it. I ask the question and he thought it was original, I pointed out what had happened and he deleted it as it was a lowbie.

Also how offensive something is seems to vary wildly on the two sides of the Atlantic. A Spoonerism of something truly offensive (but one that created two perfectly sensible words so it wasn't glaringly obvious) was being run by a friend of mine and got to level 40 ish before being generic'd. That same name was a very minor character in a 1980s 8pm national TV comedy sketch show for many years here in the UK (where we have a no swearing on TV before 9pm rule), so was clearly not considered offensive here.
Completely concur here. In fact, I have a good friend who just had a toon generic'd as it was a fairly blatant rip-off of a well-known comic character (the costume was identical and the name was 90% similar). Within 2 days another friend made a toon using the same name with absolutely no problems, and then deleted it. The name is still available on our server (after checking again).

So strangely enough, they don't appear to "block" names when they generic the associated character.

Well, technically I believe toons unlock access to Ancillary/Patron pools at 40, but since you can't actually chose a power until 41, it's all sort of academic.
  10. Yeah, what GP said. (I checked the Victory forum and see that you haven't had a chance to post there yet.)

There's a thread specifically dedicated to SGs/VGs on Victory. I'll throw in a plug for my own here (see my sig for details), but there are a LOT of great VGs on Victory, you can't go wrong with any of the active ones.

    Best of luck, Rofctaf!

Yes, that's true. But so what? If you switch back, the power would suppress/disappear anyway. If someone wants to bring a toon to one side permanently simply because of that factor, I say more power to 'em.
  12. Happy birthday to Sheik and Struder both!

I don't know what they'll do about the accolade badges, but Posi specifically stated (as did other devs I believe) at Hero Con that you will NOT be able to "double dip" accolade powers, and that they will be suppressed when crossed over to the opposite faction.
  15. I play exclusively on Victory, and I NEVER have a problem finding a team/TF/SF.

Regardless of the server on which you play, learn to use your global channels -- they are the key to finding the activity (see each individual server's forum for the channels specific to the various servers).

MB, I wasn't referring to hiding the "shared" badges -- obviously the name would change and the badge (with the proper red- or blue-side name as altered) would stay on the toon.

I'm referring to the NON-shared badges, ones that are only available to one faction or the other.

Let me put it another way: if my badge toon cannot ADD to its in-game badge count total by switching sides, then I see no point in bothering.

This is a great idea, I'm going to try and PL up a toon on Victory and then transfer over and play around when I can.

If anyone needs quick levels on a toon for Midlevel Crisis (to get to a level where they feel they can produce more quickly, or whatever), feel free to hit me up in-game (@EricNelson) and we can work on a time for you to transfer the toon to Victory for some leveling (since server transfers are free at the moment).
  19. I'm with MB and Lothic on this, Sadys. I think, before really making a hard and fast decision on this stuff, we need a LOT more information.

As it stands today, I have every badge that is "commonly" considered attainable (i.e., not counting Passport, Bug Hunter, etc.) on my badge toon except for a total of nine -- three are DJ-related, the two top epic damage badges, and the rest are Vet badges that will come in time but, because my PC at the time couldn't run CoH, I'll always be 12 months behind on (which is no biggie, by the way).

I'll realistically get the DJ and damage badges by the end of January, but I have yet to decide on whether to switch her over to red-side when GR comes. I'm really torn on whether getting the villain-only badges at the potential expense of the blue-side badges (depending on the mechanic the devs use on badges post-move, if any; and by "expense" I mean that they may suppress/hide them, etc.) will be worth it for me. To me, if you can't "see" the badge on a toon, the toon might as well not have the badge.

So I have to wait and see what happens before making a decision. I think your situation is similar, and in your shoes I'd just continue to badge on your hero and you should have enough data to make an informed decision before too many more months elapse.
  20. Personally, the best theory I've seen has been that they are testing new functionality to make free transfer tokens available as Vet rewards, and this is one step in the process. That, combined with a nice holiday gesture, is what makes the most sense to me.

I think Voo's reasons make a lot of sense too.
  21. Happy birthday, Serrate, it was great having a chance to meet you at Hero Con this year!
  22. Marketing created a game-breaking bug right in front of me, and JUST as I was about to report it and claim my coveted Bug Hunter badge, fixed the bug.

AND ate the badge in front of me. How rude!

Yup, that's pretty much the experience I had on my 'Troller. I think I died 10+ times times each run I've attempted with that toon due to that pattern.

Oh well, it was still fun even so.
