  1. My current toons are finished as soon as I get an idea for a new one, whether that be at level 50 or as low as level 10 as in the case of many defenders I left aside for scrappers.
  2. Okay then I'll zip up and send all my log files. I've gotten about 4 purples in the last week. I'm not exactly 100% sure if I turned on chat logging on my second account but I will check it out and let you know what the particulars are in the email.

  4. I don't have one because
    #1 Scrappers don't need a mez bind
#2 I carry break frees or combine to make them
#3 I will always forget what key I have it binded to (Just as I do for every other bind I have created)
  5. Advice? It's kind of hard to give advice not knowing your play style. But I can give briefly list somethings that I like about the combo.

My last 50 defender was a Dark/Ice, I built him specifically because of the holds inherent in both sets. I also picked up hold procs for all the other single target ranged attacks. I also slotted fluffie with hold enhancements. The combo of Fearsome Stare, Tar Patch and Ice Storm is awesome! He is however an endurance hog because I can't play a toon and NOT attack things.
  6. I was able to get my Rad/Sonic defender from 21-35. I wasn't able to do any work on my Stalker; I just can't stomach CoV. I really don't know why there has to be two different zones. I'd love to be able to level up a villain in Paragon City.

But the big deal for me this past weekend was I got 4 purple drops! I hadn't gotten one in the last 1+ year and got 4 in three days!
  7. I haven't been able to send any files. I've been doing a lot of dual boxing on the same PC. Will those chat logs be usable? I was running level 50 missions on a level 50 and 30ish defender.

I've only been able to play a limited amount of time since the drop rates were fixed but I've gotten two in the past two days; one being an Armageddon triple.

I might be able to squeeze an hour and a half of playing tonight so we'll see what happens.
  9. How much longer are you going to be collecting stats? This Double XP weekend has me doing a lot of teaming. If anything I will get back to collecting data on Monday.

Heck, I use to have a link to a SS of an all def MSTF about a year or so ago. On my Darkstorm STF (6 dark/2 storm defs), we just debuffed and ignored LR and took the towers down, then him right afterwards w/o bothering to tank him. So yeah, defenders can handle LR but in their own fashion.

And on a side note, I have been on enough STF to have seen LR tanked by each of the tanker primaries and would say any tanker can tank LR.
I've been on a couple of all Defender STFs, they were by far the smoothest STFs I've ever been on. But it's different when you have 8 defenders going against LR. We would normally just ignore LR and focus on the towers. The controller that tanked LR was on a mixed team so we didn't have the luxury of all the buffs/debuffs. He tanked him while we took down the towers.

I'd be down for another all Defender STF. I've been thinking on leveling up a Rad/Sonic this weekend that I've had on my second account for a couple of years. if you plan on one sooner (Mon or Tues are the best days) I can one of 2 darks, 2 kins, I'm sure I have another 50 Defender but I forget.

I wouldn't hold my breath. Vigilance came was released on 9/20/2005 after the other ATs inherents came out and the defender community asked "where's ours". It took about a week to push it to production. Again defenders seem to be a dev afterthought (after combining blaster and controller powers and also having damage and HP reduced to "low"). Since then Blasters have even gotten a revamped inherent. I guess having new low damage secondaries and shared primary sets compensate?

I'm not sure what can be done to make vigilance a worthwhile inherent. There have been tons of good ideas floated around for years, most of which wouldn't infringe on anything else other ATs do, but still nothing as much as a "we're looking into it" has been said.

I beleive post 38 there isn't much of a need for Defenders when compared to Controllers but on Defenders being obsolete; I think they are as obsolete as the player behind the keyboard. Mind you I've been on a STF where a Controller tanked LR; something a Defender (and even some tanks) could never do.

Defenders are great and was the first AT I played, and where my first 3 50s. I then started playing Scrappers and haven't regretted it. But I can't help but feel like a sidekick while playing a defender as opposed to a hero when playing a scrapper.

On SR's scaling resistance. I notice it come sin VERY handy on my latest SR. DM/SR that relies on the scaling resists whenever a big hit lands. At around 20 HP regen/sec (345ish%) and using Siphon Life, I can; in most cases survive survive additional hits that land afterwards.

As far as Ninjitsu for heroes, I don't see why they couldn't keep Hide or give them Stealth. It fits conceptually into a ninja.

That would explain what Hamster has expereinced in his above post. It's been over a year since I've had to call a GM. Do they have unique names? If so I think it may still be worthwhile to gather player experience data.
  16. Not for nothing, but I've been reading more and more posts lately about bad GM service. I wonder are GMs assigned to specific servers?

If it's really an important issue to you, maybe you can start on off board collection of data based on GM experiences?

But then, like everywhere else you go in life, there are many different types of people and when you meet one of the not so nice people, you just move on because there are sure to be at least a dozen good people just on the other side. I've rolled up characters in each archetype and both genders and I've found they all have their own pluses and minuses and their unique challenges in playing them.

I confess to being a bit clumsy--really all thumbs--in navigating early on, but I've gotten more into the swing of things--practice really does make perfect here. I've found that it's not that hard to team if you want to--and to those who I've teamed with, thank you for letting my toons tag along with you. I'd also like to apologize to those teams I might have inadvertently quit. Sometimes, in the midst of battle and my mouse is clicking wildly, I think I might have called up the wrong screen and hit the wrong radio button. Have to learn better mouse control!

Going from primarily single player off-line play to an MMORPG is an interesting experience and one I've been afraid to engage in for a long time. Now that I've played this game--even for only a week--I'm regretting taking so long to take the plunge.

To all those who've helped me out in whatever toon I'm playing in, Thank you! And if I do something that I shouldn't, please feel free to send me a Tell and let me know that that's not the way things are done.

I'll see you all in Paragon City!
Lookie here, I say lookie here youngin' welcome aboard! Breath smelling all like similac, still wet behind the ears!

Seriously though, welcome. I'm glad you're enjoying your time here. CoH was my first (and only) MMORPG.

On the mouse issue, have you ever tried using a trackball? I know many people hate them, but I myself can not play CoH (or use a PC) with a standard mouse. And since you're all thumbs, the trackball might be just what you need!

Do Rad Controllers ever really worry about getting hit? They can debuff ToHit as much as -40% with one power, plus have -20% damage and can debuff recharge and regen too. And they can debuff DEF and RES just as well. And that's just in a secondary. They still have a whole primary to lock down and mez enemies so that they don't get attacked.

The thing is, Controllers don't need that stuff. And it certainly wouldn't overpower them. Giving Controllers more control is like giving Tanks more taunt powers. Once you hit a point, there's no reason to have more.

So Dark has a ton of -ToHit, and an AoE fear, a single target hold, and an AoE stun. You really think that'll make it the only Controller secondary people will play...?

Want to know the most popular Controller combination? Fire/Kin. Guess how many ToHit debuffs, fears, holds, and stuns Kin has. Zero. Want to know how many AoE mez powers it takes to lock down a group of foes? One. A Fire Controller doesn't need extra mezzes. Neither does an Earth, Plant, or Mind Controller.

Dark is a good set, and there are nice uses for all of its powers. A Controller could cycle the powers to mez more than one group, or to stack over mag 3 when necessary. But Dark isn't the most popular set for Defenders, Corruptors, or Masterminds, so why would it automatically be the only set Controllers would ever play?

That's a valid decision. Dark would still be a powerful secondary. But you'd be losing out on DEF and recharge debuffs for the team. As well as recharge, recovery, and damage buffs for the team. Each set has things others don't. If you favor the things Dark offers, more power to you. I like Dark. I have a level 47 Necro/Dark MM. If it came to Controllers I'd probably do something with it too. But I enjoy my Ice/Cold Controller. It does things Dark can never do. And so does Rad. The opposite is also true, though.
Hmmm, I can't recall myself ever saying if Dark was given to Controllers that's the only set people will play, but I'll reread my comments in a sec.

You know why Fire/Kin is the most popular combo? Because Damage trumps everything else in this game. Debuffs, Buffs, controls etc are all means to the same end. A kintroller bypasses all of that with damage (and a huge heal). That's the reason I made mines and use him to PL newbie toons past the nauseating early parts of the game.

The reason Dark is not the most powerful set for Defenders is because Kin defenders can do more damage and Rad defenders recharge on EF is faster than Tar Patch. Rad's also get AM to slightly increase damage, where as Dark has no damage buffs. Defender's damage is already pitiful so they need to squeeze as much extra out as they can for soloing.

Controllers happen to be lucky enough to have a useful inherent and pets that do great damage (without the end cost of defender blasts).

A Controller with Dark will be hands down more powerful than any other Controller combination. I can't imagine a Dark Controller ever getting hit, and even if he does his heal is much more powerful than Rad's (Storm's is non existent).

Dark also has more -To Hit than Storm or Rad as well as more control, and that's before factoring in the fluffie.

If Controllers do end up getting Dark Miasma, I for one will be retiring my Rad troller in lieu of a Fire/Dark.

Dark Fluffies would stack more control on top of what Controllers already have, something MMs don't have.
Fearsome Stare may be a soft control, but you can extend the fear duration. Also, by the time you drop Tar patch and Darkest Night; attacking enemies don't pose much of a threat. And those that do Twilight Grasp can take care of the damage they inflicted.

Howling Twilight has a 3 minute cooldown (Nukes have 6 minute I beleive), Dark Consumption also has a 3 minute cooldown, which I have down to 56 seconds.

Also, while you can not expect your fluffie to apply it's Petrifying Gaze to the target that it would do the most good for; you can certainly control who you cast your PG on. Stack that with the other holds in the Controller primary, who the fluffie cast PG on is a moot point IMO.
