Ha, when I got home I made up a little task in Windows Task Scheduler to have it launch CoH for me tomorrow to get all the updates.
I finish that, have dinner/etc...come back and launch coh and notice it downloaded an update (or just verified one)...figured it was just a small change or something.
I log in to the servers and see all yellow dots for all the servers with Freedom and Virtue being red...and was like, "wah?"
I click Liberty and click 'make new char' and notice I could make a Praetorian...and was like, "ooooh" and then text messaged a friend to let him know ;P
Thanks devs -
Quote:I would almost consider this as a "backwards victory" for those who advocate the ideal that a single character ought to be able to earn every badge if they want to.
Consider it this way: If the Devs ever decided the only way to PREVENT people from getting all the badges was to pull a major backstab with a bunch of retroactive staying true badges then they would have realized that their quaint "badging is a journey" concept was so desperately out of touch that they were forced to do something stupid just to prove their shortsighted point. It would be a reactionary F-U to us just because they wouldn't like people playing the game the "wrong" way, whatever that is.
Fortunately I really don't see them doing that regardless of what Position has specifically said about it. Over the history of this game the Devs have generally moved towards the goal of making many previously unobtainable badges earnable again. This includes Isolator, old event badges and now Power Liberator. Heck, the entire Going Rogue Crossover system is probably the greatest example of opening up new badges to be earned. Even though they may generally prefer the "badging is a journey" playstyle the Devs have a proven track record of also making us silly badgers happy for the most part as well.
Yeah I know the dev team here is awesome but there's always that voice in my head saying, "but..." Sometimes I need to tell it to shut up! -
hmmm...true that, I did kind of forgot about the color customization....
Thanks to both of you -

Okay random question...but...I usually have a hard time coming up with names for some characters but this one has me somewhat stuck more than usual.
Magic origin; male, female or huge body type doesn't bother me...any thoughts/suggestions for names (or concepts)?
Some of my characters have "Ion" in their names; for example, my Warshade is "Gloomy Ion" (since he was my 'darkity-dark/fluffy' char.) and my Peacebringer is "Shiny Ion". So I was leaning towards something like, "Dark Ion" or "Cloudy Ion" but...not so great...Dark Ion is about the 'best' one that I have so far -
Quote:I did not see him say that (not saying he didn't just saying I didn't see it)...so that's good to hear...I've already had that argument with other players. However Positron has already said no one will be permanently penalized for changing sides.
Although to be devil's advocate, they have changed their minds about some badges before (Isolator/etc)...
Sorry my mind always thinks negatively!Bad brain!
Looking for MoLRSF team! -
The worst part about the whole thing is now I have to take my main badger and turn him to the redside so that I can get all the badges on the villain side of things and then back to heroes (since he's a hero not a villain).
If they would have added certain badges that could only be obtained by staying hero (never switching sides at all) I wouldn't worry about it....
Now I (as well as others :P) have to do all Master of x badges on both sides heh...darn badge collecting habit!
Edit: And of course in i19 or i20 they'll announce a set of badges that can only be obtained if you stay true to your side and never flip-flop...just to laugh at us badgers knowing that we now couldn't get them (since I'm assuming most will swap sides to get all the badges possible) -
I'm up for this but again, only have time on Saturdays (usually).
And, I might even say, "wait for a week-three weeks after i18/GR launches."
In one of the CoP threads in the CB threads, Castle mentioned that they will be increasing the time that you have to do a certain part of the trial from 30 seconds to 35 seconds. Not that much of a difference but...sometimes it's worth it.
Edit: Sorry meant to say that Castle said he'd update the timer to 35 seconds once GR goes live ('soon' after it goes live). -
I would be willing to help you; I have quite a few chars to select from...however, my time is usually limited to only Saturdays.
-
Done.
Although I'm never sure when the best time for me would be...sometimes stuff in rl happens but...*shrugs* -
Quote:Mmm, I thought I should have worded that question a bit better. I know it'd be 'easier' I guess to chose S/L vs M/R/A but I guess my question is: is it possible to get 45% def to M/R/A on a DA/DM Tanker? From what I remember off hand, even if I took Cloak of Darkness (5% def boost) I think (even with Weave and CJ), base def would be like 12%...I just didn't think it'd be possible to get 33% def to M/R/A from just IO sets.Yes, easier.
If you had to chose S/L or Melee, S/L is better.
If you had to chose S/L or Melee/Ranged/AoE, then M/R/A is clearly better.
And thanks Rangle (and everyone so far)...I'll take a look.

Quote:Two quick points.
1.Siphon Life got a major buff a couple issues back it is now a tidy self heal and a perfectly respectable attack.
2.Touch of Fear is not just a mez it is a MASSIVE tohit debuff.
Hmm, good points. Like I said I originally wanted Touch of Fear so...I guess the only way to get that with the build above is to drop Physical Perfection and get ToF.
As far as putting IOs in the toon; for defense wise, I'm guessing it'd be better (easier?) to try to cap S/L dmg instead of Melee/Ranged/AoE, correct? -
Oh I have money for IO'ing out the toon (or at least the capability to get money if needed) so that part isn't worrying me; especially with GR/i18 and market merges/sending money to heroes from villains.
I was doing a quick build in Mids and had Tough/Weave and was like, "this is perfect, got all the powers I want with tough/weave!" Then I noticed I didn't have Death Shroud or Smite. :/
I didn't originally pick Cloak of Fear either....
Here's a quick build I made up (just powers, no IOs):

Set Bonus Totals:
With this build I don't have Smite and Touch of Fear...which I kind of wanted both (at least ToF) but then again, if I'm a 'tanker' then I should be worrying about taunting mobs and surviving and not trying to kill mobs. According to Mids, the build above uses 3.24 end/sec and recovers 2.3 end/sec. Granted this is all without IOs/endurance reductions/etc but...would this be a huge concern since I would have Dark Consumption +end power as well as I could have the Theft of Essence +end proc in Dark Regeneration; as well as the Miracle and Numina's procs...
Thoughts on powers such as Siphon Life and Touch of Fear?
I remember having a lowbie scrapper back in the day and didn't really care for Siphon Life as much as I was hoping for....then again this was years ago and no IOs/etc so it was just using it as a base power (no enhancements in it)...only got the toon to like lvl 6/8...*shrugs*
Thanks again!
Edit:
I didn't take Cloak of Darkness because my friend said it was perma-stealth (even if you attacked it doesn't break stealth)...which would make it harder to keep aggro. -
So I was thinking about making a new DA/DM Tanker. I'd like this tanker to be made to be the 'main' tanker type...where I don't care too much about killing mobs...just getting their attention and holding it.
With that, my main question(s) is would I need Tough/Weave or if I just IO out the toon, would the def. from the IO sets be enough?
Any suggested builds/thoughts on what powers to avoid?
Thanks in advance -
Like I mentioned in that Tanker DA thread, DA redside can be painful. Mainly because redside you fight Longbow...a lot. And after lvl 35 (?) those Longbow Lts. throw out the -RES grenades and...well...1 or 2 of those and DA hurts (anything does really).
But if you put some IOs in DA and maybe cap Defense or what have ya, it might not be so bad
Try it out! -
Meh, I'd like to get a code for either the Science or Mutant pack(s) but...I very seriously doubt I'll get it....whenever they do these things someone/people have some sort of web crawler that grabs and applies it to their account within 5 seconds of it being posted it seems.
It's their stuff so they can give it away however they want to...just hope that in the future there may be a different way (especially nice if it'd be possible for me to get one).
-
I think some of the "DA stinks" comments come from the villain side of things. I know one of my sgmates has a spines/DA Scrapper and he's awesome (IO'ed out again but...still).
Years ago another friend/sgmate made a SS/DA Brute (I think it was SS for primary) and we usually had a good team going (maybe 4-6 peeps, sometimes a full team) to level up together. For the first 30-35 levels or so everything was fine...but when we started getting higher up and fighting Longbow almost exclusively it seemed () and all the Longbow Lt. -RES grenades...yeah...my friend's brute died...a lot. It's amazing how fast a brute goes down when there is like 2-6 -RES grenades are on you (forget when exactly the Lts. get the -RES grenade actually).
Sure maybe now with IOs you can def-cap 'em so the -RES grenades and what not don't affect you (the toon) as much but...I definitely have that stigma when it comes to DA and redside content.
Blue side? No issues -
I never read any Thor stuff (comics in general) but that trailer has me interested
Looks good I say!
Edit: I will say the only thing that somewhat bothered me was the Mjolnir...just didn't look right...too plasticky or something...but...with effects I'm sure that can be changed -
I just completed this yesterday with a good team
When we got to hami I first said to take out rikti & pylons...but then someone /tell'ed me saying that it might be better to keep pylons up.
I remember reading in diff. spots on the forums that the pylons don't do anything so at first I was like, "meh"...but then I changed my mind and said, "Just do rikti but not pylons."
I guess the pylons do something (they should since that is how Hami is 'weakened' supposedly in the story line)....took out all of the mitos with no issues
Team make-up was a bit weird and not 'optimal' I guess but it definitely worked
Team was:
Me: Kin/Rad Def.
A Fortunata (with perma-Mind Link)
An Ice/Fire Blaster
A Katana/SR Scrapper
A Dark/Thermal Corruptor
An Empathy/Energy Defender
An Elec/Shield Def. Scrapper
A Mind/Psy Dom. (perma-dom)
Completed it in 2:14:44 (had a break once we got to the Hami mission)...completed the psychics mission as well. And we didn't really 'stealth' and blow up the gens...we kind of cleared most rikti in the last room before taking out the generators (as a precautionary). Great team and great fun
Having the Mind Dom. confuse the Riders (along with other mobs) is always fun...aaah, confuse... -
As I've posted before in other topics randomly, I'd like to see/have an NPC that sells everything (from salvage to recipes (even purples but not PvP recipes since that was the "carrot" for getting people to come to PvP)).
It'll be interesting to see how this whole new purple-selling NPC works out in i18/GR. -
I have a lvl 50 Mind/Emp Controller and he is built well enough for my tastes.
At first I had Total Domination and Telekinesis; however, after fiddling around with things I just stayed with the ST sleep/hold/confuse as well as Mass Confuse for my controls....dropped TK and TD. I'm pretty sure I have all 9 powers in Empathy.
The way I slotted him was mainly for defense to range/AoE (as well as some recharge). Atm, he has 30% def to range and AoE which helps mitigate quite a bit of damage (not perfect but good enough). No real melee defense but, hey, mobs shouldn't be in melee range of me
I don't have any of the leadership powers...just Combat Jumping and Super Speed. I did go with the Power Mastery Epic/Ancillary pool for Power Boost mainly.
I do wish I had Recall Friend as then he'd be perfect for STF (Master of STF) runs (he has invis with the stealth IO + Super Speed).
Of course if you lean more towards teaming with people and need more control then yeah, TK and TD are always nice; but this toon was mainly for STFs (ie. more healing needed than control for the most part) sooo...that is why I dropped TK and TD.
Good luck to ya and have fun! -

Hmm, thanks for the info. Ghost Falcon
No new badges for staying 'true' to your character's original side though?
